Its kinda tucked away behind the buildings and always forget it's back here.  If you are tired of usual offerings from many of the chain restaurants, this is the place to come and try out something different.  I'm sure this place is also a chain but at least, not too many around.

Its super friendly staff, and food is served surprisingly fast.

We ordered fish taco with Rumbi rice.  Fish was sauteed and was pretty good with the coleslaw and pico de gallo.  Rumbi rice was bleh.  No flavor.  Its like chinese steamed rice with few bits of beans but no flavor at all.  The burger looked real good on the menu with slice of pineapple and lots of cheese but will avoid next time.  Double stack beef lacked freshness and tasted like frozen pattie just came out of the microwave.  I got it with chips and salsa (very sweet salsa) but fries would have been better.

lots of people were having platters of rice topped with different kind of offerings and I should had that too.

Over all, uniqueness of menu, friendly staff, I will go back and try something different.

The food is cooked after you order so that was good.  Not one of those buck a scoop places.  The food tasted very fresh and my favorite is the Kalua Pork.  Staff is very professional and pleasant.  Definitely on my list for a return visit!

Love this place. Their rice bowls are great. I'm not sure if everything is just like they do it on the islands but I know Rumbis makes some tasty food and that's all that matters to me.

I got chicken & lime shrimp with rumbis rice, it was ok.  My husband got the pulled pork, next time we go I will be getting the pulled pork.  Nice atmosphere, there are a few tables outside which is nice when it's not too hot.

Oh come on guys! No this is not authentic Hawaiian food. You are at an outdoor mall eating at a burger place in its own strip mall....a burger place in a mall in a mall. The food is island inspired meaning they put chunks of pineapple on your burger and your chicken has some fruity glazes.

I got a chicken sandwichy thing that was beyond what you would expect when you order from a counter. We really just stopped in because everywhere else had too long of a wait but I was impressed by how good it was. The french fries were really good and worth coming back for on their own.

Can't speak to the authenticity of the food was great! I had the Kahuna burger and my wife had the Hawaiian teriyaki chicken rice bowl. These are probably the 2 most popular items on the menu and for good reason. It's a little pricey but matches other fast casual restaurants prices. Will come back again and again.

Great food and staff!  Love the fact they allow local high school students with disabilities to help clean the dining room...way to go rumbi!!

I grew up in Hawaii and this doesn't begin to look like the food I remember eating or that I still cook now but I'm sure Kung Pow chicken would confuse anyone who grew up in China. And we all know the French didn't make french fries but semantics aside I have a confession to make.

French fries make my heart race.

I have an unnatural addiction to french fries. From the thin and crisp to the soft and over sized there is something about a sliced potato fried to cooked perfection in fat that makes my mouth salivate and my heart race with the same speed as showing my dog a bag of Doritos.

You know that need it right now feeling?

Rumbi's fries are the equivalent of crack to me. I will be driving in North Aurora and find myself jonsing for a bite. Before I know it I'm parked at Rumbi's. I find myself telling friends about french fry experiences past the point of boring them into a coma. I will throw out the trash and find its full of mysteriously greasy white bags.

    I don't have a problem.

What I do have is a bag of delicious fries. Cooked to the pinnacle of crisp outside and warm melting inside. Sweet potatoes add a little unexpected kick and the multiple cuts are a textural delight. The sauce included is tasty but will join other sauces in the uneaten fast food purgatory of my fridge door. Because I need nothing between the naked glory of these fried strips of perfection and my lips but a sprinkle of salt.

    They are THAT good.

The inside of the restaurant is nice and comfortable and the staff is very nice. Ordered the luau pork sandwich and tried to find a clean table, lots of empty tables but none of them clean. When the food came to the table it looked great, lots of pulled pork, coleslaw and a nice big bun with a side of fries and sweet potato fries. After the first bite I was very disappointed. The pork was cold, mushy, and overly salted. The coleslaw was just cabbage and mayonnaise and the barbecue sauce was KCMasterpiece. Fries were good but were obviously frozen. Maybe other dishes there are better but this is hands down the worst pork sandwich I have ever had.

If this is to be your first experience at a Rumbi, don't make it at this location. I've been in to this store twice now and was less than impressed both times. The food just was not nearly as good as the one I frequented in Greenwood Village. I pulled a gigantic chunk of fat outta my pork sandwich this time. It is kind of funny that they are so into their Hawaiian theme; the food is not even close to be anything but a mainland commercialized attempt at Hawaiian. Don't come here looking for real Hawaiian, go to L&L for that...

Rumbi is doing it's best to be very island like. The decor was very tropical and the island music playing and relaly made you feel like you were going on vacation.

It's counter-service, which is my least favorite of the options. The staff were friendly and were happy to explain the differences on the menu.

I got a chicken and steak rice bowl with the mild teriyaki sauce. it was prety good food. The food was very pricey. I thinkf for the 2 of us, with 1 water and 1 drink, it was about $20. For a bowl of rice...

The table was also a bit sticky, which always makes you go ewww....

I'll be back, tho, when I'm in the mood for a rice bowl :)

Yelp has it right, this place is a solid 3.5 stars.

When you walk into the Rumbi Island Grill you are greeted with island music and tropical decor.  It is a fast casual place.  I equate it to Tokyo Joes - only Hawaiian, not Japanese.  I had a rice bowl, it consisted of brown rice, chicken, veggies and a spicy teriyaki sauce.  I got the full order and it was huge (there is definitely enough food in the 1/2 order!).  Oh and the Mango Ice Tea was sweet without feeling too sugary.

The food was fresh and tasted light and healthy.  The staff was friendly and helpful. The place was clean.  It was all good.  I'd come back!

Good fast food that is different from the normal burger chains.  The sweet potato fries are awesome!  Luau pork is very good, salads are very good and so are the chicken sandwiches.

I used to frequent the Rumbi out at Southlands until i discovered a location in the DTC that doesn't require driving halfway to Kansas.  The two locations are pretty similar, so I think you can probably bet on chain restaurant consistency here.

The bowls are huge, but most of it is rice, not meat.  The non-rice serving sizes are still decent sized.  My personal favorite is the luau pork with "Rumbi Rice."  Rumbi rice is white rice with some coconut flavoring and red beans.  It is most delicious.  I order it with something called Jamaican jerk sauce, although it bears little to no relation to actual jerk sauce (which, now that I think about it, sounds really dirty).

I can't vouch for authenticity, and apparently the food you get at Rumbi isn't actually authentic Hawaiian food.  Go figure.  What it is is good eating.  The prices could stand to drop by a dollar or two and they could up the amount of meat you get for the price.  But overall it's tasty food.

Again, I wish Yelp allowed something other than whole number ratings, because Rumbi comes in at a 3 point something closer to 4.

Whenever the wife & I head up to Southlands (primarily to avoid the Park Meadows mess) we inevitably end up here.

Good, different take on a sandwich/rice bowl place.

Hint:  don't order a large of anything.  On the bowls, a large just means more rice, not more meat & veggies.

I recently went to the Rockies for a Ski weekend, and on the last day over there we decided to wait until we came back to Denver for a late lunch. Rumbi was on our way so we decided to stop by.

Serving sizes are VERY generous. I had a huge bowl with rice & beans, chicken teriyaki and streamed vegetables (loads of broccoli!). It was delicious, really liked it and will definitely visit again in the future. Very tasty. My friends also had a good experience and their dishes were as big as mine too.

Service was very good, staff was friendly all the time.

like a chipotle, garbanzo's, etc style line: pick dish, sauce, meat, etc.

but with a menu too. (and beer!)

decided to go with the kahuna burger. as soon as i read it all i could think was the beginning of pulp fiction and "that is a tasssty burger." and it was!  swiss cheese, teriyaki sauce, pineapple all on a burger. it sounded different and interesting. and the taste concurred. quite good actually.

wife had some rice bowl with teriyaki that was ok. nothing great. kind of bland. i would like to try the jerk sauce sometime.

otherwise really friendly manager i believe who could (obviously) tell we were new as it took like 20 minutes for us to order and we let like 34833040234 people go ahead of us. but thats okay. i didnt feel pressured to order.

will go back and try some new stuff and get a beer this time too.

Staff is always friendly, they have a great military discount (10% off entire order or a free drink), and food is varied and tasty. If you like island flavors, this is a great, fast fresh alternative near Southlands Mall.

Ordered the chicken and pineapple burger something.  The sweet potato fries aren't that great. (Go to Sputnik's for the fries & habanero jam).  Burger was nicely grilled and the spread was tasty.  Also tried the tofu + noodle bowl w/Rumbi sauce.. It was kinda bland, but good portion. Overall, they're kinda pricey, but they have a good beer selection. Just wasn't wowed in any way.

Well, I got off work early today and ended up cruising around The Southlands Mall.  I saw plenty of places to eat but ended up stopping at Rumbi Island Grill.  The whole "island" thing got me since it's so nice outside!

I walked inside to the sound of reggae music and a tiki type atmosphere.  The staff was very friendly.  The guy at the counter suggested some things to order and was very polite.  It was a little pricey though.  A half-order bowl, chips & salsa & a drink was almost $12!

I got a chicken bowl with Rumbi rice (coconut rice with red beans) and Jamaican Jerk sauce.  They brought me out a HUGE bag when the order was ready.  They used this very large, plastic container for the chips & salsa... not very green if you ask me.  A paper bag would have done.  Anyway, I got home and dove in.  The chips tasted old, the salsa was meh, the veggies in my dish tasted like they were frozen and the sauce tasted like generic grocery store terriyaki sauce.  The rice was ok and the chicken was very well seasoned, moist & tasty.

Overall, it was a big phat MEH.  It was also so much food that I didn't even finish it.  Maybe trying a cheaper, smaller portion size would be a good idea?  If you enjoy quality food, this is not the place for you.

You know how friends are . . . . you love most of them, but you can't always trust their opinion, right?

Well, I have a dear friend who's been bragging on this Southlands Rumbi Island Grill.

He keeps telling me that I need to try it!
    I keep resisting.

I'm not the kind that likes to stand in line and decide whether I want :
     - chicken
     - steak
     - luau pork
     - steak & chicken
     - veggie
     - organic tofu
     - or shrimp
and then decide,  do I want:
     - Hawaiian Teriyaki
     - Jamaican Jerk
     - Bali Island
     - or Honey-Orange flavor
and then decide, do I want all that on:
     - white rice
     - brown rice
     - Rumbi rice
     - or noodles

Well, I finally said "Yes" I would go for lunch.

It isn't fancy, by any stretch of the imagination . . . . but it was GOOD!  And the service was friendly and quick.  I will go back when I'm in that hood . . . even without my pushy friend!
