My wife and I were recently in the mood to eat out and wanted to try something different. Â We had read about the new Irish restaurant opening in Sugar Grove and decided to give it a go. Â
Both of us are from Irish heritage and we've both lived and traveled abroad extensively. Â So, I'd like to think we know a thing or two about good Irish food.
I had the corned beef and cabbage and a Smithwick's in anticipation of St. Patrick's Day. Â My wife tried the shepherd's pie with Harp Ale. Â
The corned beef and cabbage could have been my mother's! Â Very tender and tasty. Â The Smithwick's was excellent. Â I understand they use a concentration of nitrogen vice CO2 to dispense the on tap Smithwick's which provides a creamier texture. Â My wife enjoyed her shepherd's pie immensely and thought it was some of the best she's tried. Â
We were both very pleased. Â Pleased with the attentiveness of the staff, the portions, presentation, gentle atmosphere and that local business people were starting up during challenging economic times. Â
We're returning this weekend with guests and hope to be able to enjoy Irish soda bread and perhaps even scones.
