Nice little breakfast nook tucked away on the south side. Â They serve tasty tummy treasures in decent portions. Â Atmosphere is pretty laid-back, however I do prefer eating outside and the restaurant is located next to a bustling town street; kind of mitigates the mellow vibes a bit. Â All in all you will get a traditional breakfast cafe menu with a beach town twist.
Review Source:This is my favorite breakfast place.  I get the Bea's omelet but always have them scramble it.  I always ask for a side of jalapeño and they always bring me a whole jalapeño.  Yum!  Their salsa is great.  Mimosas are priced right.  The best thing about this place is the service!!!!!  They sit down and chat with us every time we're there.  You can tell it's a family run business.....they actually care about their customers.  I've had a great meal every time I've been.  No point in going elsewhere for breakfast.
Review Source:The chicken fried steak tasted like it had been in the freezer for a while - a chewy texture. I was really surprised that this was the only place I've ever been that only provided a single piece of toast to accompany a breakfast combo. Â We're from out of town - so maybe the locals like the light servings and haven't tasted really good "greasy spoon" fare with servings piled high. I would have to say we felt out of place here. The other diner up the street with the lower review probably has better food.
Review Source:First off, their salsa is good, I wish they would jar it so I could bring it home to Oakland. Â Joey and Nicole, Abe and Cheryl are all fantastic and they are always warm and friendly. Â
If personality isn't enough for you, all the breakfast items are good, Farmers Favorite, Gringo Burrito, Pancakes (ask for chocolate chips) are all good.
Stop in.
This sweet little diner is a gem. There was a bit of a wait on Sunday so we popped over to the adjacent Surfin' Donuts for a cup of Diedrich coffee, which is great stuff.
My friend and I split Eric's Quesadiles and the ABC omelet..easy as 1 2 3 baby. Both were delicious and I don't think I even had to consider eating again for like 8 hours.
The service a bit slow but worth the wait if you want a hardy breakfast. To their credit the entire place was packed so the delay was completely understandable.
Super fast and friendly service. I had the Bea's Omelet and it was super yummy. My boys had pancakes scrambled eggs and sausage. My husband had a chicken sandwich and fries. All of our plates were clean when we left. So glad I came because of the reviews. Will be definitely coming back. :)
Review Source:We came to Yelp first to find a good, traditional breakfast joint during a weekend stay in San Clemente. We really enjoyed S.C. Cafe - it's a hole in the wall surf diner, nothing special from the outside, but clearly a local fave once you're in. The service was EXCELLENT, the atmosphere was super laid back, and the food was what you would expect from a good diner. Recommend!
Review Source:Came in for brunch this morning with my wife, sis and her boyfriend and we left happy. This is a great breakfast place in San Clemente! What I really enjoyed about the breakfast this morning was the fact that nothing we ordered tasted oily (despite the fact that we order Chorizo and eggs spuds style, two different omelets, and a bacon quesadilla). All the dishes were nice and light and we even left with our bellies full without the taste of chugging old used oil from Mc D's down our throats like many breakfast joints that I have been to!
The portions were large and the coffee was actually pretty good. Has a good surf town vibe... and all the staff were very friendly. I would recommend dropping
One small downside is the wonderful aroma of bacon permeates through the cafe, Â and unfortunately into the fabric of your clothes too... BACON!!!
Pretty sure this is my first 5 star breakfast review. HOLD ON to your overpriced cafe coffee people. The only thing that could use work at this place? The name. Service is great, the staff all get along really well and it's got a great local vibe.
Plates are large and original. Coffee is great here too. Bea's Omelette is a great order choice, though my dad loved the oatmeal, and I like the lean dish (the veggie mix?) with the egg whites and black beans.
This place just makes me feel good! It is a bit small, so don't bring your entourage at peak breakfast hour if they need a full-sized Escalade.
Bottom line: It's better than Pipes. It IS.
The food is decent enough at this locals only joint, tucked away in the corner of a small strip center on the south end of town. Parking can be tough, it can get a little crowded and it closes at around 2pm every day.
Don't be afraid to go in alone for a big breakfast - there are always tons of newspapers and magazines lying around
There is no better place in SC than SC Cafe for breakfast. Simone M.'s review must not "get" it. The staff & their dress & friendliness is part of it's charm. It's not atypical that waitresses will sit down to ask you what you want to order. The food is TO DIE FOR! Order the Country Mix Spuds Style and you won't be sorry! Amazing! It's a true SC gem and only those who get the laid-back style of San Clemente should bother going. If you're looking for a fine-dining establishment for breakfast, go to Newport.
Review Source:Don't let the exterior of the SC Cafe fool you. Â This establishment will knock your socks off! Â First of all, the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Â I believe the main server is the owner's daughter. Â On to the food...I had Bea's Omelette with tortillas and salsa and all I have to say is WOW! Â The coffee is also exceptional. Â
Warning: the table in the middle of the restaurant, directly in front of you when you enter is extremely cold because the A/C vent is right above it.
We asked the valet at our hotel in Dana Point to recommend a good "local" place for breakfast. He sent us a few miles South to the SC Cafe and it was more than worth the 15 minute drive.
As the previous reviewer stated, don't let the casual look or atypical location of this place fool you... this place makes a mean breakfast.
The Country Mix Spuds style was about $9 and it was easily enough food (and calories) for two meals -- but that didn't stop me from eating the whole thing. Ask for a side of Pico de gallo. It's fresh with just a bit of kick.
My mom and my wife had the Bea's Omelette, also delicious. Don't remember the exact name of my dad's entree (Rancho Omelette?) but it involved eggs and steak and chopped peppers and was quite tasty.
The best part wasn't even the food. It was that even though we were obviously tourists, the owner / waitress Nicole and waiter Johnny treated us like we'd been regulars for years. Nicole even managed to introduce us to her mom and brother who were sitting at the counter.
If you're near San Clemente and looking for some breakfast, I can't imagine there's a better place to eat than SC Cafe.
I'm shocked no one has reviewed this place yet!! I'm not exactly sure of the address, but it's across from the Surfin' Donuts right off the El Camino Real exit on Interstate 5, just go right if you're coming from San Diego or left if coming from OC/LA. Â
They have great breakfasts: Â Any of the mixes are awesome, and spuds style adds potatoes, flavor, and lots of calories. Â If you're looking for lighter fare they have oatmeal, and some good veggie dishes, the vegi mex is tasty, but a little dry. Â The coffee is tasty and comes with plenty of refills, the pancakes are melt in your mouth delicious, and it's a good mix of young folks, old folks, surfer dudes, and the like. Â There's usually a wait, but it moves quick as the service is prompt and very friendly. Â It's the bottom floor of what looks like an office building, but don't be put off, it's very good, and super cheap: breakfast for three rarely exceeds 30 dollars. Â Parking can be a challenge, but usually something opens up.
