Sage was definitely delicious and I will go there again. Â I had the chicken marsala which was amazing in every way, and my boyfriend had the salmon which was equally delicious. Â The crab cakes appetizer was absolutely AMAZING. Â My only complaints are: Â the menu was very limited; no steaks were available at all. Â Also, as far as desserts go, the only two that were available didn't require teeth or a fork. Â I will be returning, because what I ate was absolutely delicious, but I hope the menu offers more options next time.
Review Source:We just tried out Sage a few days ago. My husband & I have an affinity for upper scale, trendy restuarants. The food was decent; however, the service was horrible. I am sure that is not everyone's experience; however, we are not "traditional." My husband is African-American and I am white- both professionals who work in higher education. My friend & her husband met us there- she is Mexican and her husband is white (also both professionals). From the moment we were seated, we we treated indifferently by pretty much all of the staff. The service staff tried to rush us out of there, even asking my friend if she wanted her food wrapped up long before she stopped eating. They served us uber-quickly, saying "I don't know why things came out so fast- sorry"... and kept trying to get us to finish up and not linger. Our server didn't offer to refill any of our drinks and tried to avoid offering dessert, saying there wasn't much to choose from (but we ordered dessert anyway!) The tab for the 2 of us was near $100, and despite the poor service- my husband still tipped 20%. In retrospect, I would given him less than 15% just for the poor treatment. The hostess stood near the door as we did finally leave, and I said "thank you" and goodbye with a smile... and she just ignored me and stared. I noticed there was another African American couple, slightly older, who came in when we did- and it appeared they were rushed out rather quickly as well, as many other people lingered. I have also had this experience at another upper scale restaurant in Chesterton, dining with my husband and my girlfriend. In fact, the waiter at that one handed ME the bill, rather than my husband or friend... not so subtle. My conclusion: dining in Chesterton is not a good idea if you are anything but Caucasian. My son can be president... but he can't eat in Chesterton IN. I am very disappointed, and embarrassed for people that still behave this way.
Review Source:I strongly recommend dining at Sage. Â The waitress was attentive and helpful without being intrusive. Â The food was excellent -- quality ingredients, fresh, nice presentation. Â My husband and I shared the beet salad, sausage pizza (sausage made on premises), and scallop dinner. Â The portions were ample, and we took home leftovers. Â There were obviously regulars eating in the restaurant while we were there, too. Â The prices may be higher than a typical NW Indiana restaurant, but the experience and quality are worth it. Â You won't be disappointed!
Review Source:Sage is "top notch" in upscale dining without going into Chicago and the prices are more inline with NWI. Â The food is SO flavorful you'll wonder why you haven't been there sooner. Â The scallops, on a bed of curried brussel sprouts on the appetizer menu, couldn't start your meal off any better. Â Don't be deterred by "brussel sprouts" - you've NEVER had them like this before. Â All the breads and pastas are made fresh daily. Â Recently Monday evenings have a new twist - every Monday from 4pm to 9pm. you can create your own wine tasting menu - $18 per person, select wines, 2 .oz pours. Enjoy as few or as many as you would like. This is a great way to try a wine that you've had your eyes on. Â They also have FABULOUS specialty martinis made with their own infused vodkas. Â Sage has become my "go to" restaurant for dinner with friends and even on my own!!
Review Source:We went to Sage while staying at the indiana dunes and loved it. When google searching restaurants in chesterton this one is not the first one on the list but the food was amazing. The chef came out to talk to tables during our meal which is always a nice touch. The scallop appetizer was our favorite. overall a great restaurant!
Review Source:This place was fantastic. I love reviewing the great places like Sage and the Silver Spoon that we go to when I visit the future in-laws because they are such little gems and I want to keep them around. Honestly, some of the best gnocchi I've ever had (and I love gnocchi), but what really blew me away was the short rib dish that everyone is raving about on here. I loved the bright hint of lemon in the ricotta filling for the stuffed pasta. It was such an excellent palate cleanser to the gnocchi's kind of overall heavier feeling. Â The rosemary bread when we first sat down was a delight.
And don't worry about the fact that I stole about half of my fiance's food (the short rib dish) because he declared my gnocchi superior early on and was more than amenable to the swap.
The only down side is that it's kind of hard to find -- they were using a chalkboard sign to help direct drivers, but definitely a bit tucked away.
What are we going to do? At this rate in a few years deciding where to eat out around here is going to be a tough decision. For now I am so happy to find that Sage is a wonderful option.
The beer/wine list is small but nicely chosen. Both the scallops I had and the pasta my wife got were perfectly done- which is especially tricky with home made pasta (and scallops for that matter). The sauces on both dishes were perfect compliments.
Our waiter was great and the interior was nice, though we were there so late there was no light coming through the windows. I am sure we will be back many times.
This place is amazing! I am a chef myself and work 6 days a week so I ventured in with my husband & daughter on my one evening free. We were blown away. The decor is perfect for the restaurant and the service was impeccable. Russell was our server and he made our night! The food has so much flavor and the gnocchi were some of the best I've ever had! The scallops were fresh and perfectly prepared. We tried one of each dessert, all Delicious. You have to try the Limoncello & Cream.
Of course I'm extremely picky being in the same business, but this is my new favorite place to be on my day off!
This place is a knockout! What a surprise. I'm pressed to think of another recent meal within 50 miles that I've enjoyed half as much. In a small office-park environment, the quality of the food and service is thoroughly unexpected. I wandered in for lunch and found an outstanding experience. Perfect service. And the food! First, the bread- fresh, warm French bread sliced extra thin to allow you to eat a few pieces with the house-made bean spread and olive tepanade. Then my "grilled seafood appetizer" arrived. Perfectly cooked sweet, juicy and warm, the plate had three large tail-on shrimp, two pieces of perfectly grilled skin-on salmon, a large piece of succulent grilled calamari, and some calamari tentacles. (I'm taking half of it home.) My Caesar salad was likewise perfectly dressed with the oil and white balsamic I selected. Fresh, crisp greens. I'll have to try dessert another time. Open for only two weeks, this place should be a huge success if people hear about it. It could hold it's own anywhere. My only comment is the wine list. I didn't try anything at lunch, but I wasn't wowed by my first wine list read. Looked like some exciting beers and original martinis.
Thanks!
