I was here with a friends family. Â It was the first time all of us were here. Â There were a lot of things order. Â The paste with Orriciecti (sp), sausage, and broccoli rabe was amazing. Â They make their own Sausage. Â I had the scallop dish and it was amazing as well. Â Â The tuna was good, and the steak was pretty amazing too. Â Â I don't think anything on the menu was not worth it! Â
Definitely worth going back for!
My boyfriend and I were looking for a nice meal on the way out of Atlantic City and remembered that a friend had recommended this place a while ago. Â What a great recommendation!!! Our waitress was great and the food came out quickly. Â There was a prixe fixe menu, which basically included everything on the menu with normal sized portions (which were very large). Â The food was amazing! Â We were both surprised that such a great place was in the outskirts of AC. Â We would definitely return to Sage and recommend it highly to anyone looking for a nice delicious meal with great service. Be warned if you don't live in the area though, we spent the next week wanting very much to go back but we live outside NYC so it was too far. Â Great little gem. :-)
Review Source:Wow -- this restaurant has gone down hill. Â A group of us dinned at Sage last week and we were all unanimously surprised at the poor quality of food and the lack of service by all team members including the owner and her rude partner. Â
Due to their extrememly poor service and lack of care for their customers they have lost at minimum 20 of their loyal diners.
Don't waste your time and money as there are many Great choices in the area!
Oh how I have been longing for a top notch restaurant at the Jersey Shore (please make no correlations to the pathetic MTV show.) Â Each summer the wife and I will visit my parents at the Shore a handful of times, and we often will go out to eat one night during our visit. Â We are always amazed at the lack of choices.... not because there isn't a place to get a decent meal, but because there isn't a place that makes you want to rush back to dine again. Â Meet Sage. Â Why this restaurant doesn't have quadruple the reviews is a mystery. Â From what I hear, the place is always packed (as it was the night we dined) so reservations in the summer are a must. Â Call several weeks in advance to ensure you secure your ideal time. Â
Sage is quite small, so the tables can tend to be cramped, but they do the best they can with what they have. Â The restaurant can also be a tad loud, but that didn't bother me at all. Â The food, by far, makes up for any shortcomings the restaurant may have. Â Besides the food being impeccable, Sage is also a BYOB, which is always a huge plus in my book. Â The four of us dined at Sage during their busiest week of the summer.... July 4th. Â We had 7:30pm reservations for Thursday evening and were seated about 10 minutes late. Â No big deal, although the waiting area is cramped. Â We started off with a bottle of Prosecco as we perused the menu. Â
The menu has so many options to choose from, which are mainly Italian inspired, mixed in with a heavy influence of seafood dishes and specials.  I split a beet salad with my mom that was spot on.  The beets were mixed in with candied pecans, goat cheese, and mixed greens.  The split portion was more than enough for an appetizer sized salad, and there was no additional charge for a split fee.  My wife and father split an arugula salad that was very good as well.  By the time appetizers were finished, we were finishing up our Prosecco and ready to uncork a bottle of Chimney Rock Cab, that Pappa Dukes brought as a surprise.  I was at a deadlock between so many different entrée options, but decided on the seared tuna with Asian vegetables and rice.  The three amigos all ordered the scallops that was accompanied with a flavor bomb mixture of risotto and vegetables (almost like a succotash.) Â
We passed on dessert, but I cannot wait to come back to this BYOB to try all of the other selections that Sage's menu has to offer. Â A truly divine meal that I would call a rare gem in the area. Â
THE GOOD: BYOB, Excellent Food, Great Menu Options
THE MEH: Service (not bad, but not memorable), Cramped Quarters, Noise Levels
THE BAD: Â Street Parking
Lovely BYOB with outdoor seating. The waitstaff was very nice and accommodating for all of the disasters happening around them.
First my friend spilled a full glass or water and we required a new table cloth, etc - but generally not that big of a deal. Then the lady at the table next to us completely falls out of her chair backwards and takes down the entire table behind her. Broken glasses, etc. A hot mess. They took it all in stride and didn't even appear annoyed.
The sun dried tomato oil and bread started the meal off right - and it continued from there. We had Caesar salads and an eggplant Marsala appetizer. Yum!
Entrees were also great. I had spaghetti and crab, my husband had a creamy ravioli (Note - the cream sauce is HEAVY!).
We really enjoyed our meal and would return.
We went to Sage for dinner last weekend and had far less than a wonderful dining experience.
For appetizers, we ordered the hummus dish, calamari, and the eggplant ricotta dish. Â All were pretty good. Â
The night went downhill when our entrees came out. Two people in our party ordered the rack of lamb. Probably the worst lamb I have ever eaten. Â How do you mess up lamb?? Just ask Sage, they managed to do it.
Both orders were tough and unseasoned.  When the waiter Loni? or Roni? came over and asked how everything was, we told him that the lamb dishes lacked any seasoning (whatsoever) and were tough. He proceeded to tell us that they were in fact seasoned and that this dish won 3 stars and that we must not know what lamb tastes like  (Does any restaurant review specifically award dishes?).
So- no apology, no offer to remake, or anything.... Just a defensive angry waiter.
Low and behold, my family will not be returning to Sage.
Delish!
Another Fatty Review!
Ventnor is not known for too many decent restaurants. Sage, I can honestly say was a welcome surprise. The dining room was packed and the tables are just a little too close together, but, welcome to the NJ Shore!
I started with the clams and mussels in in a Thai Broth. The seafood was on the small side however the portion itself was pretty good. The taste was spot on! The broth was delish. The mussels and clams were tender and served very hot. A bread basket was served which was great to dunk into the broth.
My partner had the Panko crusted oysters. He reported that the Oysters were good. The best part of the Appetizer was that the oysters were served on a superb bed of home made slaw.
My main course was the Gnocchi stuffed with Asparagus in a cream sauce. Holy cow! I have had Gnocchi many times sometimes good, sometimes lousy. Well, by far this was the very best Gnocchi I have ever had. Obviously, home made pillows of heaven. My only problem with this dish was that only 12 were in my bowl. When a dish is so good, you want more, and at 19 dollars I think the portion could have been healthier. Really fantastic culinary experience.
My partner, the ever meat and potatoes eater order the NY Strip. Right on cooked to Medium Rare. A huge plate covered with Meat, Mashed Potatoes, Fresh String Beans and the newest every plate must have, freshly fried onion strings. Another winner of an Entree.
For Desserts, I had the Dolce de Leche. I was perplexed that it came out looking like Chocolate Ice Cream. It tasted fine, I just have never had this being so dark. My partner had Bread Pudding which he reported as a thumbs up.
All in all very good experience. Worth the money. The service was eh OK, not great but acceptable.
It's difficult for my Dad and stepmom to find a consistently good restaurant that remains open in the off-season at the Jersey shore so they were understandably excited to take me to Sage in Ventnor when I was in town.
Sage's menu does have a distinctly Italian bent as evidenced by the complimentary foccacia with rosemary bread and olive oil for dipping (I'll be ecstatic when the dipping oil trend gives way to good old-fashioned salted butter served room temperature in a crock). My appetizer of shrimp spring rolls came with the shrimp tail still on, peeking out one end of the roll, which made for easier handling and an interesting display. My stepmom enjoyed her sweet potato soup commenting that it had a smoother, more velvety consistency than the standard butternut squash.
My dish of seared scallops was perfectly done and nicely imbued with the flavor of the bacon that was in the succotash-esque medley of veggies it came served atop. The side of shoestring zucchini fries were a little too scraggly/thin and it made it difficult to taste the vegetable or even pick them up for dipping in the basil mayo. My stepmom enjoyed her "frenched" roast chicken and there hasn't been a restaurant yet that can mess up a pork chop enough that my Dad won't eat it.
We passed on dessert, but overall, I enjoyed Sage. In the off-season at the Jersey shore, it's a nice BYOB alternative from the trendy chains of Atlantic City or the over-priced B&B's of Cape May.
The large dining room at Sage is boisterous and brightly lit- don't go for the conversation or the ambiance.
Service was slow and poor- I requested that a pasta dish be served without sausage, but it came without any sauce at all! I guess since the dining room is so loud, Â the waiter couldn't distinguish "sausage" from "sauce".
When the pasta con sauce re-arrived, the broccoli raab was AMAZING. Garlicky and bitter and perfect! So if I have a major broccoli raab craving, I might go back.
But probably not!
