the food is hands down the best Persian food in LA, we've had our party catered by them and dined there and had food delivered to our home and never been disappointed. chelo kabab barg or koobideh or chicken koobide, kashke bademjoon and masto khiyar and ghormesabzi are our favorites there.
Review Source:Was brought here for lunch because of an Amazon deal and was pleasantly surprised! The decor is beautiful, the food is really good (and I'm not much of a Persian food person). I got the Salt and Pepper salad with chicken, and the hummus appetizer. Both were delicious! Portions were large so I have leftovers for tomorrows lunch. Definitely give this place a try!
Review Source:The food was absolutely amazeballs!!! I had the boneless chicken kabob and the meat was so juicy and tender. It literally melted right in my mouth. Also the tahdig with ghormeh sabzi was beyond tasty. The atmosphere is nice and the server was friendly and very attentive. Sadly I don't live in the valley, but it's worth the drive!
Review Source:I want to like this place more than I do. The decor is beautiful. The musician who plays is fantastic. But unfortunately, the reason I go there, the food, is always disappointing to me. We order vegetarian dishes, and they're just so-so. I haven't been to many Persian restaurants but the few I have, the tastes were unique and special; the eggplant dishes were spectacular. But here, the food just doesn't want to make me come back. I've been here twice, having a similar experience the first time, hoping maybe it would get better. Â But I had the same reaction the second time as well.
Review Source:I was excited to eat here and finally did the food was actually delicious but I have to say that the service was absolutely Terrible!!! I forgot my credit card at the restaurant and went by to get it. I spoke to someone before and said yes that they had it.... Long story Short went to pick it up  the guy there was so rude when I walled in explaining I just needed by card he stood watching tv and ignored me the. I spoke louder he walked away towards the back saying what so u want me to do!! Absolutely crazy!! And unless ur persian they don't give two fucks about what your saying!
Review Source:The people who have a bad review and complained on petty things are out of there mind
This place has very well marinated food as an person of Armenian decent  we are very critical of everything and I tell you food here is not a problem
Has parking facility where they validate as well
Thumb up
I never leave any reviews but this place really rubbed me the wrong way. The reason I am leaving 1 star for this restaurant is solely based on my overall experience. I wanted to try this place because I had heard about the amazing food and elegant atmosphere... The food was below average and the decor was classless and distasteful. I mean, they wrapped their curtains with "Hermes" belts. Who does that?!
When we walked in, the hostess seemed confused as to where to she should seat us even though the restaurant was over 50% empty. We stood there for a good 2 minutes before she decided where to seat us. Oh, did I mention we had a reservation? Anyway, there seemed to be at least 5 waiters and busboys running around but nobody was actually doing anything or checking up on our table. Finally, a waiter came up to our table and took our orders (he didn't write any of it down). We ordered 2 appetizers and our entrees which were 3 soltanis- all at the same time. Simple enough right? Well, we got our entrees (all at separate times) and we never got the 2 appetizers. When I finally of the attention of our waiter, and asked about the appetizers he said "what appetizers?". After I explained what we had ordered he looked at me with a pouty frown and shrugged his shoulders and said "sorry" and literally just walked away. At that point we didn't want them anymore due to the fact that we got our food already.
The waiter basically didn't come back to check on us/refill our drinks or anything of that nature until we were ready for the check. Even then, we had to ask him for the check because the busboys had cleared our table and we were sitting for about 25 minutes without even a slight acknowledgment from our waiter. (Let me just remind you this place was not busy AT ALL and they had more than enough staff). He walked past our table countless times but never even glanced over. I can't believe I even left him a 10 dollar tip, he deserved nothing.
Needless to say I will not be returning, whoever is in charge of this place needs to learn a thing or two about customer service and how to run a business that a consumer can appreciate.
Worst service I have ever received at any restaurant in my entire life. Food was average, if not below. There are WAY better Persian restaurants in the area, don't bother with this place.
They need to hire a staff that understands what customer service is and how to run a business. The entire staff was confused and rude. This place is literally a joke. NEVER coming back and never suggesting to anyone.
I'd give this place 10 stars if I could. Â First, the food is magnificent. Â The hummus plate appetizer and babaganoosh (sp?) are wonderful. Â The salmon is off the charts delicious and my husband loves the trout. Â There is some kind of citrus marinade on the salmon and I have never tasted a better dish. Â The restaurant is beautiful; very well designed, classy, and well matched colors. Â We meet our friends here for big Saturday nights. Â The people are very friendly. Â We order take out a lot and Adrian is always a sweetheart. Â We order from here so much that it's on speed dial.
Review Source:This place was bad on so many levels!!! Â
I was excited to try this place out since they had entertainment. Â I called and inquired about a reservation for Saturday night. Â As I spoke to the gentleman on the phone, he told me that the entertainment for Saturday evening would include belly dancing. Â I decided that this would be a great place to take my mother to celebrate Mother's Day. Â So we switched our plans from Sunday to Saturday, so we could enjoy the show. Â I went on opentable and requested a table near the entertainment.
Upon arrival, I was told there would be no belly dancer. Â Then our hostess tried to put us in a room completely away from the music (at least they had a singer). Â Finally, after speaking to the manager, I was able to sway the staff to put us at a table that was wide open near the entertainment.
After that, the service was horrible. Â We ordered the eggplant dip. Â It was served with no bread. Â Took another 20 minutes to get bread. Â Then my daughter's soda was flat. Â They were gracious enough to replace it. Â They were also out of several main dishes. Â
The one saving grace of this place was the incredibly sweet bus boy. Â I really think he should be running this place. Â Since the wait staff was horrible, I asked him for a couple things. Â He was prompt, polite, and professional. Â He was wonderful.
If you want good Persian food and quality service without an attitude, I would definitely go to Darband in Tarzana. Â It's a lot cheapier, and everything is ten times better.
We finally decided to give Salt and Pepper a try especially considering the fact it's in our neighbohood and we like to support our local economy. Â The restaurant is beautifully decorated and the food is absolutely delicious. Â Now, I'm no expert on Persian food but I do know when what I am eating tastes great. Â We ordered the cucumber dip appetizer which was yogurt topped with walnuts and raisins. Â The sweetness of the raisins was such an interesting touch. Yum! Â My husband had the chicken and beef koobideh of which I took a taste. Â They were seasoned perfectly and the meat was incredibly tender. Â I had the albalu polo which was chicken kabob served with cherry rice. Â I requested chicken breast instead of dark meat which they happily accommodated. Â I have never had cherry rice before but it was divine! Â And the portion sizes were big...enough to have a nice lunch the next day.
The service was great! Â Our waiter was very attentive and helpful. Â I had ordered some iced tea and it had a unique flavor which I really liked. Â When I asked about it, he wasn't sure but he went out of his way to find out what it was (cardamom) for me. Â The waiters were all smiles and seemed very appreciative to have us in the restaurant.
I also have to throw this in... Even though there was no live music at the time we were there, there was recorded music being played in the background and it was jamming! Â A nice mix of adult contemporary and R&B! Â Was loving it! Â The only downside to this place right now is that they are waiting on their liquor license. Â It wasn't a big deal to us because we are not big drinkers but I know that it might deter others from dining here. Â All I can say is be patient because it will be worth the wait!
Clearly, the owners have put a ton of hard work into this establishment. Â You can see a lot of thought, care, heart and money was put into the building, the menu and every little touch. Â I don't usually comment on other people's reviews but I just really don't understand the hate that has been written about this place. Â There is no perfect restaurant but I'm sure if you ever have a particular concern at a restaurant, the owners would probably love your personal feedback versus blasting them on Yelp. Â And yes, there is a GORGEOUS mosaic on the wall that features a nude couple embracing but it is very tasteful and it's called ART!
Please don't let the negative reviews deter you from checking this place out. Â And if you live in the neighborhood, the best thing we can do is support these businesses....especially when they are worth supporting. Â As far as I can see, Salt and Pepper deserves our support. Â I am just kind of bothered by how mean people can be and I don't think it's warranted in this particular case. Â Just go try Salt and Pepper for yourself and be your own judge.
Well, we saw a new Persian style restaurant had opened, so we decided to give it a try. Â We went there at lunch time on a Saturday. Â The first impression when we walked in the door was that the place wasn't completed yet. Â The bar section is very, very bare, looks like nothing is ready for service yet. Â The rest of the restaurant is decorated in stark white with black stone floors. Â They have sort of banquettes rather than normal booths, something that can be moved. Â Looks like they have plans to use them against the walls at night when they might have some entertainment or something. Â I can tell you they are the most uncomfortable things I have ever tried.
The regular chairs are okay though and we were there already, so we persevered. Â We were seated with the full view of the huge mosaic with the amorous naked couple in full embrace. Â (yuck) Â This place in in love with decorating, but completely forgot they need a CHEF who knows how to COOK.
We had tahdig with gaymeh for an appetizer. Â For those unfamiliar with Persian cuisine, this is a rice crust with lentil stew poured on top. Â This dish was uneatable. Â The tahdig was about 3/4" thick and hard as a stone. Â I had not brought my chisel with me, so I gave up on it. Â We told the waiter (nasty guy, by the way) and asked for more sauce to pour on the tahdig so we could eat it. Â He acted totally confused and asked what kind of sauce? Â The sauce from the gaymeh of course. Â He still did not get it. Â Anyway, he finally ended up removing the dish, we thought just to pour the sauce over it and return it. Â A long, LONG time passed. Â We asked what had happened to the dish? Â He said it was coming in just a second. Â More long time passed. Â
Finally he came with a new plate of exactly the same thing. Â Stone slices of tahdig with fairly tasty gaymeh over it. Â Not eatable. Â We scraped the gaymeh off the tahdig and ate it only. Â
I had the baby lamb chops which I ordered medium well. Â Three of the four lamb chops were cooked properly, but the fourth one was raw inside. Â Seems they were cooked on a skewer and that one had not been over the fire. Â We showed the waiter when he came by and asked, but he just acted like I was there to educate him, so he said sorry and kept on moving, no offer to cook that one some more or anything. Â I left it on the plate.
My husband ordered fried white fish. Â He got kabob white fish. Â It was okay, nothing special. Â Both our dishes were too salty. Â Mine was served with about a half skewer of veggies (onion, bell peppers, a tomato), but they had been slathered with oil and looked very unappetizing. Â Hey, how can you mess up some veggies on a skewer? Â Just grill them! Â Don't pour oil on them! Â Left them.
The bus boy was very nice, very professional. Â He was apologetic about the food, told us they did not have their usual French bread as the bread guy had not made the delivery. Â We had what looked like triangles of pizza dough with nothing on them. Â
The waiter should be fired. Â He was nasty, had an attitude, and made us very uncomfortable.
Their was no host. Â There were about 3 or 4 people sitting in the bar area who appeared to be owners or managers or something. Â They called over to the waiter to seat us when we got to the door. Â There was a total of 3 tables of customers. Â I do not believe anybody there was happy. Â We will not return.
I give them three months.
Everything was fresh and delicious.
Modern roomy Decor
Excellent service!
I look forward to our next visit. Hubby really liked their hummus, Â flavorful.
we shared a Salt and Pepper dinner for two, Shirazi Salad and Cherry Rice.
We will return! I hope they get their liquor license soon!
My wife and I had lunch at Salt and Pepper Tuesday, 4/23 and found the experience completely satisfying. She ordered the Trout Special, which came with a very fresh and colorful, Â "tah chin" salad composed of purple cabbage, romaine and carrot slivers and a balsamic ginger dressing on the side. Â The trout was deliciously seasoned, crispy and tender. Â I ordered the Pomegranate Stew (Fesenjan), an intense savory flavor. We also shared an order of Baba Ghanoush as an appetizer. and enjoyed sampling each other's dishes. Our food arrived promptly and Adrian, our waiter, provided excellent service.
The restaurant's decor was in keeping with its name - a sparely elegant black and white throughout, filled with light from the many windows - an ambiance that seems well suited for a range of dining experiences from get togethers of friends and family to informal business lunches. Â
All in all, an excellent lunchtime experience!  We would definitely recommend Salt and Pepper to our friends, and look forward to another meal there.
"Food not only has to taste good but also has to look good--the artistry is not merely in the flavor or content but also in how it appeals to the eye. "
Finally !!  a Woodland Hills restaurant that  values their clients; their attention to detail is excellent.  They go beyond the mundane.
Oh, and their food is fresh, delicious and the portions are GENEROUS. Â My BF and I always have to split the soup and an entree. Â
I hope they don't obtain their liquor license for a long time. Â I like the tranquil place, just the way it is. Â :)
Very pleasantly surprised. Read some scathing reviews which summarily dismssed S&P as "fancy...food ok"So  purchased daily deal with low expectations.
Love being surprised! Â Food was excellent, service was well-trained and no hassle over the coupon. Â The pomengranate chicken was great and different from cuisines. Â Will keep going back. Was strong WH restaurant.
Being that I was born and raised in the valley, I was also born and raised by Persian parents. So that sorta makes me an expert on the topic of Persian food.
This place is AMAZING! The food melts in your mouth! I would go as far as to say this is the best Persian restaurant in the LA area!
Persian food is not only about kabob. This place has authentic Persian food, much like the food my mom makes at home. If you want to play it safe, I recommend the "barg" or the "Soltani" The Soltani is a combination of barg and koobideh.
I see a couple negative reviews here, honestly I think its the competitors seeing this place as a threat!
Not only is the food amazing, but the ambiance is nice as wel! I ate here twice this week, the 2nd time was picked up to go, even their take out material is top notch!
Don't think twice. Thank me later!
Mikey
I discovered  this gem of a restaurant a couple of weeks ago.  I think the food is very fresh and delicious.  The Chicken Koobideh is fantastic and filling.  The decor and atmosphere  are very classy, and the staff is very attentive and professional. The only complaint I have are the salt and pepper shakers on the table.  They fall over at the slightest touch.  Nix them, please.  Other than that, I fully recomend this restaurant to anyone who likes Persian food.
Review Source:I've been to many Persian restaurants and I have to say this is by far the best one. When u walk in you automatically feel a five star vibe. From the beautiful design to the amazing food u can't find better than this place. The service also gets an a plus! I never had to ask for someone to come up to me they would already be there. And the food comes super quick so ur not waiting around. The good literally melts in your mouth! I've gotten a few things here and I have to say the kobidah is amazing as well as the tahdig. If you haven't been here you definitely have to check it out!!
Review Source:Best Persian food in Los Angeles!!!! The service was great! Our waiter was very helpful and gave great recommendations. The food was amazing. Overall I loved the whole experience! The place was beautiful and I can't wait to go back! I'm not sure what some of these other reviews about the decor are because the place is gorgeous. It's obvious they invested a lot of money into transforming this restaurant to its current beauty (I remember how this restaurant use to look like with the previous owner). This restaurant looks like it would belong in Beverly Hills but instead you can now get the same experience and beautiful atmosphere in the valley! Â I definitely recommend this place!
Review Source:I am a fan of good Persian food and this place is great. Â
I was greeted at the door with nice smile and did not have to wait to be seated. Â The wait staff was very quick and professional. Â
I came with a friend of mine and we ordered two appetizers the yogurt and cucumber dip and the eggplant. Â I have had the yogurt appetizer at other restaurants and did not like it at all. Â However, Â to my surprise I actually liked it here. Â The yogurt had raisins in it which gave it a sweet flavor. Â The eggplant dish was warm fresh and homemade. Â Â Â
For the main course we ordered  beef qubideh and a chicken kabob which is one of my favorites.  The beef and chicken seemed to have little or no salt which I appreciate because I need to eat less sodium. Â
The waiter did mention to me that they were not able to serve any wine which was fine with me because I was driving after. Â Plus I came to eat not drink. Â
The atmosphere is fine dining and the ambiance is good. Â The restaurant is very clean as compared to other Persian restaurants. Â The prices were fair for the portion of food I got. Â I have spent a lot more for a lot less elsewhere.
I will definitely be back.
I usually don't bother to write a review about the restaurants but when is this good you gotta say something. First of all the food is just phenomenal. The quality of everything is the best. Doesn't feel like a Persian restaurant at all. Usually they're ghetto and you can't take your American friends there but this place is very high end. It's like the BOA Steakhouse of Persian restaurants. I loved my time there and have gone there couple of times since its grand openning. The servers were delightful. The food was amazing and the live music on the Friday night was off the hook. Everyone's exceptionally nice and after the manager came and had a chat with us after we were done she ordered us tea on the house. I'm not saying that if you go they will give you free tea but it was a nice gesture none the less. I thoroughly have enjoyed my experience there and recommend everybody to go as well. BEST PERSIAN RESTAURANT IN SO CAL.
Review Source:Seriously?
I can't kock to food. Â I had lunch here on a Sunday, and ordered the Grilled Chicken Salad. Â It was what it purported to be, though there was more lettuce and less substance to it than I prefer. Â
However, the wait staff isn't the least bit familiar with customer service. There are items on the menu which are "not available yet".  The menu includes a nice lunch selection which is apparently off limits at  lunch time on weekends.  (There is no mention of this on the menu.  We didn't know this until dinner entree versions of our choices arrived at our table and cost significantly more.  (We weren't looking for a cheap lunch, and the lunches aren't cheap anyway, but it would have been nice to know what we were getting.)  All of this aside, we didn't make a big deal of the "misunderstanding", but neither the waiter nor the hostess were the least bit apologetic.  Somehow they thought it was our fault, I think, which is all a little ironic because when we sat down and I mentioned something about the decor as compared to that of the prior occupant of the same space, (which was actually far more traditionally Persian), the hostess informed us that the Salt & Pepper is intended as a "fine dining experience" by comparison.  Utterly laughable. (To me, fine dining isn't someone's odd fashion sense.  It's great customer service and great choices, which are both completely lacking here. I feel like the proprietors went to FIDM, and skipped culinary school.)
The ambiance is a bit odd. Â (The curtains are tied back with kitchy Hermes men's belts, and there's a hand vac mounted on the wall in the dining room. Â There are crooked wooden signs in the dining room, and the bar is completely devoid of product.) Â Unpolished is one thing. Â Unaware is another.
Why would you call a Persian Restaurant "Salt and Pepper" anyway? Â I fear that this place is intended as a night spot that makes its money on Persian booze and shmooze rather than quality and happy customers who come back again.
It won't be around long. Its ready for Restaurant Impossible already.
We were anxiously waiting for a new restaurant STEAK house to open in the valley but terribly we were disappointed Just another attempt at another Persian  restaurant at a Jinx location.  Food is average at best and terribly over priced and no liquor .  Hope they have a lot of money as this place will never make it!  Obviously will never come back.
Review Source:Is this place for real?
I ordered a cappuccino which was a delightful menu option, but they do not have a cappuccino maker. Umm, ok.
I then opted for the chai tea which the waiter told me is pre -made (like India chai) and has milk in it, so I was excited to try it!
They brought me a Lipton hot tea, huh?
I ordered a dish off the lunch menu which clearly states it comes with a side salad only mine came with a mountain of rice instead. Yummy, but I preferred the salad in honor of my slim figure! The waiter assured me that my dish did not come with the salad so I asked to see the menu. I showed him that the menu stated clearly that my lunch comes with a salad! He said, "Oh no, you can't order from the lunch menu at lunch on the weekends". I said," wait, that means that I'm paying dinner prices at lunch on top of not getting what I ordered?" He said yes.
(Mind you, there  was no small writing on the menu stating you could not order lunch at lunch if it was Sunday!)
I found myself pondering how they paid such fine attention to detail which is limited to the fine detail of ambiance rather then customer satisfaction. I noticed the curtains making a statement as they were delicately tied with Hermes belts, this place is all about image but no genuine class where it counts.
Let me just say I dont live in Woodland Hills anymore, but after trying Salt and Pepper I now wish I was still living there, so that I could go there everyday  The decor is stunning and something out of a magazine  The food was so good I really had to stop myself from eating so much  The maast khiar was amazing and the kashk bademjoon was the best that I have ever had in my life  mmmmm-mmmmm goood!  The dishes are perfectly seasoned  Most persian places load salt on everything, but not at Salt and Pepper  The Cornish hen kabab was the bomb! The Tachin was great! The fish was super fresh!  The zereshk Polo was good! Had a pitcher of doogh and had to top it off with tea  We all left very happy and totally excited to go back to such a classy new place like that  Congradulations to Woodland Hills for having a decent place to eat now :)  Btw, I saw Organic meat on the menu...........major plus!!!!!
Review Source:Ok, to be honest we did not eat anything here.  After looking at Yelp, which had a few good reviews and said "full bar" and the restaurant's own website which, along with a good looking menu,  touted their expansive selection of wine, I placed reservations to take my friend out for a birthday dinner.  I was looking for something different, tasty and, yes to enjoy  a drink or glass of wine as well.  Be aware, the location does not have their liquor license yet so, yes they do have a full bar and probably an extensive wine list (as the server touted to us again as we were seated) but they cannot serve.  Extremely disappointed that at least the restaurant's website did not note this fact.  My friend and I went a few doors down and had a nice Italian meal with a glass (or 2) of wine.
Review Source:Salt & Pepper, you might be a good restaurant. You might not. I don't know, and honestly, with the amount of great Persian food in my Westwood neighborhood, I'll probably never find out.
What I do know is that you spent the day yesterday blanketing every car in my neighborhood with gigantic, glossy fliers for your business. Fliers that you clearly didn't test to see if they could sit on a sunny car windshield in 80 degree heat without becoming semi-permanently bonded to the car. Well, having completed your research for you, I can assure you, they do. So if that's what you were going for, awesome job! Your restaurant is now a part of my car, from now until I can painstakingly scrape it off with a razor blade.
Salt & Pepper, you're not the only business in the LA area to engage in this practice, but you're definitely using the largest, glossiest, and most obnoxious fliers I've ever seen for it, and the fact that your business is 10+ miles away from where you were papering doesn't score you any points, either.
Thanks a lot.
Los Angeles is full if good Persian food do the food us good but
not better than anywhere else it is over price just to make the money
The spent for decoration and I do not know if it is ok to see
picture of a name couple making out in bedroom would be appropriate
while you are eating in a restaurant it us just odd that is all
Price is a big issue in this place
Nice decor though
