Fantastic! I love all the food there

Update: December 8, 2012.  My wife and I ordered carryout earlier tonight around 6:00 pm and there was only one customer in the place. This is on a Saturday night, mind you. I noticed the lamb was down to the core when they carved our gyros. Our sandwiches were very dry and tasted like cardboard. No customers and awful gyros spells trouble.

The food is pretty good, and reasonably priced. If you go here during lunch though, be prepared to be greeted by the most unpleasant server you'll probably ever find. She doesn't even try to be friendly.

This place is phenomenal!  Not only is their food amazing, but it's reasonably priced.  I've only been here once, but I'll definitely be going back.  I ordered the Chicken Shawarma with cucumber sauce.  You're given the option of a half or a whole.  A half is the perfect amount for me.  My only complaint is there wasn't enough cucumber sauce.  Don't get me wrong, they don't skimp out on the sauce by any means.  It's just so darn good!  I'll definitely be going back and asking for extra cucumber sauce.

I love this place.  Get the simple greek salad and gyro...so tasty.

The menu here is more varied and more oriented toward Middle Eastern food than King Gyros, the gyro place near home.  I ordered the Sam's Plate to try several things--baba ganouj, taboulli, hummus, and falafel.  I can't speak for the authenticity of the food, but I liked everything but the baba ganouj, which had an offputting, squishy texture.

The restaurant is nicer in atmosphere than King Gyros as well, decorated and dimly-lit.  There were only two other tables occupied, so the music was too loud and echoing off the walls.

The Broad Ripple location is near my work; I'll try that one as well.

    Great service. Convenient location.
Best Greek food I have had in Indiana.
    At a reasonable price.

I am going to start this review by saying that I've been spoiled in the past. I used to live/work near Greektown in Chicago. That said, I went in to Sam's Gyro knowing that this is not Greektown and that I probably wouldn't find the best Mediterranean food in the world.

While the food was less than stellar, my biggest complaint was the terrible service. Keep in mind that you order at the counter. The woman taking my order was very rude and very unfriendly.

In all, the rude service tainted my whole experience.

Same menu as the Shadeland Ave location. (See my review there for a recap of the menu.)

I was impressed by the ambience, with the large carved wood camel statue, the textile wall hangings, and prints/art on the wall. The lighting seemed just right.  Arabic music was playing in the background.

I wouldn't call it romantic, but it was suitable for a casual date night, or a nice dinner with adults.

There's a single unisex restroom in back.  The kitchen is 1/2 open to the dining area, but it didn't seem out of place. It sort of added to the coziness.  But walking past the various restaurant supplies and stuff to get to the restroom was the only negative to the ambience.

If this were in a less classy area of town, I'd probably rate it higher.  IE, I'm not being overly generous in my ratings, or going in with low expectations.

I had the lamb kabob entree, at $14.95.  Which included a small Greek salad, and commercially made pita halves.  The pita was warmed, fresh, and soft, but tasted uninspiring.  The salad was simple, just iceberg lettuce, feta cheese (maybe some tomatoes?), and a nice dressing.  Unlimited-refill fountain soft drinks for $1.75, Turkish coffee for  $1.95, bottled water $1.35.

I _really_ liked the lamb. Almost all the pieces were perfect, and just two pieces had a little fat and/or gristle.

So they (or at least this location) gets my approval that they can do more than just gyro meat and shawarma.

The only seasonings on the tabletops were salt, pepper, and ketchup.  Though the lamb meat was cooked perfectly, I thought it needed some seasoning. I should have asked for something but didn't.  The lamb kabob was served over rice with green peppers and tomato chunks.

I forget the name of the kind of rice they serve here.  I've had it before at other middle-eastern/mediterranean places.  It's not Basmati or what we're used to in North America as long-grain rice.  I believe it's parboiled rice, which is firmer than regular white rice.

The cute young North-American waitress was friendly and attentive.
