I created an account in Yelp just to review this place, as it was a horrible experience. The place is grossly understaffed. The food itself was just ok. If I could, I would've given this place zero stars...

The early bird special here is a very good value. A limited number of entrees (including fried shrimp) are available at a reduced price. Included is a small salad, entree, sides and dessert for about $12. Hard to beat a deal like that at the beach. You've just got to get there early with the blue haired tourists.

This was my last night in Brunswick, having been in the area for four months for training.  My dad and brother had driven 10 hours from Virginia to see me and we were looking for a nice place to have dinner while touring Jekyll Island.  We chose The Sand Bar because it was close to the beach and looked busy.

Once we got inside, it was indeed busy!  Very happening, or so it seemed.  The decor and atmosphere was okay.  Nothing special, but far from a dive.  My dad ordered some seafood, my brother ordered a chicken salad, and I ordered a buffalo chicken wrap.  We also order some tea and Coke.

After about 15 minutes we noticed our food had not arrived.  We got a refill on our overly sweet, sweet teas.  Then after 30 minutes of waiting, our waitress very apologeticly stated they were really behind in the kitchen and she reassured us that it would only be about 10 more minutes.  After waiting another 20 minutes, bringing our total wait time to an hour and with no sign of our food in sight, we dicided to leave.

The waitress kindly let us go without charging us for our drinks.  I think she was frustrated at whatever was going on behind the scenes.  In an adjacent room, there was some large function going on and appeared as though 90% of the restaurant's efforts were going in to serving those people, while leaving the rest of the patron's high and dry.  There were several waitresses working and the kitchen looked very busy with many cooks, but they were far understaffed for the number of people they were attempting to serve.  One thing that could have helped with the wait was free bread or chips or perhaps somehting to read.  We may have stayed, but I only had three hours to spend with my family that evening and an hour was waisted at this terrible restaurant!  In the end, we drove to other side of the island and had a perfect meal at Latitude 31.  A more expensive, yet nicer, place to eat, but all too often you get what you pay for.

We are staying at the hotel, so we went down for dinner and a drink. The bartender/waitress took our drink order. I asked for a margarita...wasn't asked frozen or rocks, but I got frozen and it was good. We ordered a shrimp appetizer and fish and chips.  The cook (a tall white man) was moving extremely slowly and all the waitresses were standing at the window waiting for food. It took nearly 30 min or more to get our food. My six shrimp sat in the window for about 15 min. waiting for the fish dinner.  We were never asked if we'd like another drink.  The food was surprisingly good.

The next time we went, the same bartender/waitress woman was there and one waitress. The bartender was making drinks, acting as hostess, waiting tables and busing tables.  It was Happy Hour....not advertised nor mentioned until we got our bill. She also mentioned there was an Early Bird dinner where we could get more shrimp. No menu could be found for Early Bird....unknown dinners, unknown prices, unknown time.  The fried shrimp and fish tacos we ordered were very good.  The short, maybe Hispanic cook was doing an excellent job of producing food and the place was kind of busy. You have to ASK for another drink or you don't get one.

Lastly, we went there for breakfast as it is the ONLY place on the Island to get breakfast.  All I can say is, leave the Island if you really want breakfast.  The coffee was good.  The toast was ice cold and they don't butter it in advance. The eggs overcooked and greasy.  We were the only people eating there and I can see why..

Have stopped in for breakfast. Not many places on this island serving. Buffet is ok. Don't come to the island for breakfast...

Desperation took our small party of three there, and the service and food were just absolutely the worst we experienced during our stay on the island.

Our fried shrimp appetizer arrived at our table after 45 minutes, cold, and was sent back (and was supposed to be taken off the bill).

Our server wouldn't leave items off a cheeseburger -- ie, lettuce, tomato, onion.

My husband's beer glass sat empty through half the meal.

The snap peas were mushy. The salad arrived with poorer quality lettuce than was on the burger, with only a slice of tomato, rubbery onion, and croutons on top.

They would not allow us to put in my 4 year-old's order before our own.

I complained to the manager - who was also bussing tables, seating customers, etc. - and $25 was taken off the bill. The cold fried shrimp appetizer was NOT removed from the bill for another $10.

    A horrible experience!

Bad service. The guy taking names and reservations was also bussing tables. 30 minutes went by just to give our name and I had to chase him down, he wasnt taking any names. Just a bunch of people standing around like vultures waiting to be waited on and served.

Service was OK but the food was poorly prepared and obviously reheated, e.g. steamed broccoli looked a couple of hour past due, grits in the "shrimp and grits" were a hard block. Only the georgia wild shrimp appeared to be freshly cooked and tasty, but and they were tiny and few in number. Not a good deal.

We were staying on the Island for a wedding and wanted to find some lunch.  I ordered the crab cake sandwich and my husband got a vegetable pasta dish.  The service was EXTREMELY slow and there were only a few other customers.  The kitchen is open so you can see the cook making food.  I found it to be a bad sign as we sat watching everything come out of the microwaves.  I saw the cook pull out a hot, plastic bag and dump food out of it. I was nervous that it was my crab for the sandwich. I don't even think that the pasta was freshly boiled.  We took two bites and got our check. YUCK.  Do not go here for lunch and I assume, dinner is the same.

$9 buffet breakfast on the weekend and $5.95 during week breakfast special.  They had fresh fruit, eggs, bacon, grits, potatoes, rolls, and more. Our waitress was a little slow, they were starting to backup at the door when got finished.  No reason as they have open tables and counter space to seat people.  Easy to get to and good prices, would suggest the management step things up a little a they would have a first class place. I would go back, one of the most inexpensive place for breakfast on the island.

We were looking for breakfast on Jekyll yesterday and happened upon this place, simply because it was easiest to find. It's a good thing!

The breakfast menu is small, containing the usual options (omelets, french toast, waffles, etc.) and a few more unconventional choices (Breakfast Monte Cristo), Everything was very good, including the service.

I would come back here for breakfast, and I would be interested in having lunch or dinner too.

This is one of very few places to grab breakfast on Jekyll. It is a homely place with a pretty small breakfast menu but it has good food, good service, and it ain't too expensive. I had the breakfast Monte christo. Turkey, ham, and Swiss on egg battered and powder sugared toast (we call it French toast on the mainland) with a little cinnamon and a raspberry dipping sauce. Surprisingly, I did not have a heart attack.  The rest of the breakfast fare is more conventional. I just like to order the oddest item on the menu. They have grits, hash browns, French toast and will make you an egg any way you choose. They only lose a point for having fox news on the tv.  If you like fox news, you might give this place 5 stars.
