Love this place!! We visit every year! We stay at the hotel that is beside it and never have to leave the area. The fish tacos are so yummy! The drinks are mixed perfectly! Haven't had a bad experience the past 4 years we've visited! Great place to dine, relax and enjoy the beach view.
Review Source:Some friends and I came down here from Virginia on our spring break and this was the first place we dropped by. Â It's located near the beach housing which makes it a quick five-ten minute walk. Â We decided to eat around 5-6PM, and the place was not very busy at the time. Â It looks rather plain on the outside, and it's not too different on the inside. Â However, it does have a friendly atmosphere. Â We were pleasantly surprised that it was a seat yourself kind of place and it has a second floor. Â Near the entrance, to our surprise, was a chalkboard listing of the week's events and speciality drinks. Â Our waitress was welcoming and was pleasant to talk to. Â We started with waters and sodas. Â This took a little longer than I thought it should have considering that the place was not awfully busy. Â i do warn, if you're not used to restaurant water on the oceanside, I would suggest getting the pink lemonades or sodas. Â While it was not as strong flavored as I'm used to in North Carolina (where it can just taste like pure ocean water), it may not be pleasant to all. Â Drinkable, but the filtered ocean taste is there. Â I did notice that our plastic covered menus were rather gritty or sticky. Â Most of the menus my friends had were similar. Â When we placed our orders, she was very helpful in explaining the fish baskets and the fish in the orders. I ordered a small custom pizza: B. Olives, bacon, and a third I can't recall. Â In the time it took for us to get the food (average 15-20 minutes, which is good for an ordering group of 8 people), I got a better look around the place and our seat location. Â On the second floor, you get a nice overlook of the dance floor and stage where musicians play on the weekends, and windows for a nice view of the beach behind the building. Â Food arrived, and everyone was very happy with their choices. Â Good eats, food was cheap, got out happy.
It was a good experience for a first day eating. My friend did ask for a refill on his drink prior to our departure. Â He never got it. Â While not that big of a deal, it would've been nice I suppose, haha.
Casual, cheap place, handicap accessible (wheelchair lift), decent food, and biggest factor for me: No one got sick afterwards. Hurrah!
Had a great lunch here on vacation. Â The views, quite obviously, cannot be beat. Â A little hard to find something on the menu that wasn't fried, but the grilled grouper sandwich ended up being large and tasty. Â Can't decide if my favorite part was watching a dolphin jump out of the water or eating their fried pickles.
Review Source:Not a big fan of their seafood or prices, but if it's pizza, beer, wings and the beach you want, then this is a great place. Â Wings are good, 50 cents on Wednesdays and the pizza has a good crust and flavor. Â Love to sit by the beach and enjoy the waves, music and beer. Â There's not another Resturant on the Island where you sit this close to the beach. Â In fact they have a few tables in the sand for you to enjoy. Â Now if I could only set up my lounge chair, take off my shirt and enjoy some suds and sun, it would be perfect.
Review Source:This place has one of the best beach patios in Amelia Island! Â You can sit literally on the sand and eat dinner and when there is a full moon, you can watch the moon's shadow on the Atlantic Ocean. Terrific location and atmosphere, but the food is only so so. They have great live music on the weekends and I would recommend going there for a drink and an appy and then go somewhere else for dinner!
Review Source:This restaurant was the only thing in walking distance from our hotel during our stay in Fernandina Beach, and luckily, it was really good! Â We ate here a total of three times over the course of the week, and were definitely pleased with each visit. Â The food is solid...the hush puppies were our favorite! Â The service was friendly, the location was great...and you have to try the 'Bottom's Up Punch." Â It is definitely a winner!
Review Source:My husband and I were at Sandy Bottoms on Saturday June 15th 2011 for lunch. We had just spent an enjoyable morning on the beach and wanted a cold alcoholic drink and some seafood. We chose well!
I knew right away I wanted to eat outside. It was a beautiful day. Overcast enough so as not to boil under the brutal Florida sun, and breezy to combat the mugginess. The place was not packed, but busy enough to have me worried we wouldn't get an outside seat. We were lucky enough to be on the deck in the far corner, able to see the ocean clearly and not too close to the live music so as to be blasted out. (They have live music all day on Saturday's apparently.) A very nice woman came and took our drink orders almost immediately. She was cheerful and friendly. This was a huge plus to me, as I am very big on good service. When she returned, I ordered the shrimp basket (in garlic butter with hush puppies on the side) and my husband ordered the redfish basket (fried, and he also chose hush puppies). It was all delivered in a timely manner and all tasted very good. It's definitely "bar and grill" food so not wonderful, but still good. I ordered a second drink (The Cat 5 Hurricane, which is SO good and strong.) and we ordered the only desert offered, Key Lime Pie. The waitress said it was the best on the island. I can't say one way or the other on that, but it was good. I usually don't eat key lime pie because I prefer sweet to tart. This pie was sweet enough for me to thoroughly enjoy it. We sat for a while, enjoyed the view and atmosphere, and felt happy and full.
My one true criticism would be the bathroom. I stopped in on the way out and was disappointed by the smell and lack of lighting. Some of the bulbs were out. I don't want to be picky, but I would at least like to see all the lights work.
Do not go in to this place expecting more than the "bar and grill" atmosphere or food. It is a beach hangout and is perfect that way. It was exactly what we were looking for and we will definitely be back the next time we are in the area.
Maybe it's me but every time I've gone here it was nothing special. The only thing going for this place is the location, and sometimes that can be a con. The last time I went here I was outside and there was church on the beach. Now I don't mind church music, but the people around us weren't too happy about it. The man sitting at the table next to me actually pointed out to me several times about how displeased he was with the situation. That was obnoxious! The food isn't that spectacular.. at least not to me. I never recall having something there that I can distinctly remember being delicious or tasty...I usually try to see the good things, so maybe I just ordered all of the wrong things here and not something that they might have been able to make especially well. If you're in town on vacation and just want to go to say you were there, then do it. Otherwise, it's not a place I'd choose as a local to eat. I'd rather go to Dairy Queen and get a chicken strip basket than Sandy Bottom's chicken strip basket! lol
Review Source:I hadn't been to Sandy Bottoms in a few years, but when I went a few weeks ago I was pleasantly surprised. We went for lunch and sat on the deck which has a great view. I started off with a mango "daiquiri" that was delicious. It was almost like a slushy. We got the fried mushroom appetizer and it was decent. Large portion but they were kind of bland. I ordered a caesar salad and side of black beans and rice. I also tried the hush puppies, potato salad, and pasta salad. Everything was good, and the price was right.
The only complaint I had was the service could be better. The waitress forgot a few things I requested and took her time checking on us. It didn't ruin my experience but had she taken a little more care it would have been a perfect rating.
Ate dinner there with my family of four this evening. Â The service was bad, the food wasn't much better, and the atmosphere was nonexistent. Â The inside of the restaurant has no ambiance and reminds me of a VFW hall. Â We opted to sit on the porch and were almost carried off by the ants, flies, and gnats. Â Our server would disappear for long intervals and it took him about 10 minutes to run my credit card and return with the bill. Â When I ended up going inside to see what was taking so long, he was in the middle of fixing a dessert in a galley area right after handling the credit card machine, kind of unsanitary in my book. Â Everything that we ordered tasted funny, at a cost of over $50 with no alcohol. Â Needless to say, I am not a fan of this place at all.
Review Source:we went with a group of 10... had a reservation and were able to sit down... but we had the worst server in the history of servers... one of the guys in group ordered appitizers for the table... she only brought one and procced to tell him that he never ordered them, when 3 of us saw him order... she also forgot food and drinks... the food was desent but the service sucked and i will not go back...
Review Source:After a day laying on the beach and playing in the water, what more can you ask for than walking to a restaurant that sits on the beach and ordering pina coladas and crab? I went back to Florida for vacation just to be able to come back to Sandy Bottoms. Hot summer nights and fruity drinks *sigh*
