My first visit to Milford SBC was for lunch and I had the miso salmon.  It was extremely tasty although portion was skimpy.  Bloody Mary was excellent.  Raved about it to friends, so took them there the following weekend for dinner.  The beer was not cold, almost  warm and just about flat!  Really disappointed!  Waited so long for food to come that waitress had to come by twice to tell us that it would be coming soon.  Food finally came and burgers ordered by friends were good, but panini was bland and tasteless.  96$ later decided I would not  be back!!!
Review Source:We came here with a bunch of friends after we found out Stonebridge wouldn't seat us until our entire party arrived. The calamari was really good and so were the nachos we shared at appetizers, but my fish and chips were "meh" compared to the one I got across the street from 7 seas and my main issue was that my cole slaw was still partially frozen. I'd still go back for the calarmari though. Our waiter was also very nice.
Review Source:If I could give it a less than one star , I would have. Last year I used to be a regular at their location in Hamden. A friend of mine took me to visit their Milford location. While the place was beautiful but their manager was extremely rude. Caused for ruined evening. Upon a complain the owner ( DeNegress was the name I believe) wasn't too helpful in addressing my complain.
Well I took my business elsewhere . We had an office party the next month. We went to Stone Bridge instead. They lost thousand dollars in business. They also lost  my business at the Hamden location.
We recently booked a private party in the back room on a Saturday evening. Â Everything was great! Â We pre-ordered trays of food such as chicken marsala and sausage+peppers, which was all well prepared. Â We had two staff members dedicated to the party, who were both great and extremely attentive. Â And the final price was very fair. Â Overall, excellent experience and place for private parties.
Review Source:Not bad, draft selection was a little weak, fortunately they had Green Flash in bottles ($8 a pop). Â Tried to stay healthy and ordered the chicken, portion was kind of small and rather bland. Â Lots of veggies and huge potato helped out. Â Next time I would probably opt for a less healthy option to fill me up. Â Service was attentive on a slow Tuesday evening.
Review Source:I've eaten here twice and once had a great meal and once had a terrible meal. The second time we ordered off this seasonal menu - the nastiest overcooked shellfish, "lobster" sachetinis with no lobster, soggy calamari. Their beers aren't bad. However what really turned me off was venturing in here on a Friday night. It turns into a club scene with a horrible dj. The bartender in their covered patio was nice but the bartender inside was rude at best. I was ABSOLUTELY served cheap whisky instead of Jameson, they definitely had put something else in the Jameson bottle. I don't drink whisky as a rule, I only drink Jameson. That is beyond offensive. My friend had an even worse experience but I know in only supposed to discuss what my personal experience was so I won't mention it but I will be sure Robert and get her on here to write it herself. I feel like the managers are well aware that there aren't many local places for young people to go out and they are taking advantage of that with overpriced bad drinks. I won't be back in here.
Review Source:Always a good place to grab a beer, some wings and a burger. Â There is a TON of beer on tap...I always love to try new beers! Â I haven't branched out to more of the entrees, but I've had a few of the burger varieties and they are all good. Â Â
We'll definitiely be back for our random weekday "I don't feel like cooking" meal!
I'm a fan of the restaurant and food - not the "Peach Pit: After Dark" nightclub it turns into after 8pm. Â That's one of the reasons I can only rate it 3 stars. Â When I go for dinner on a weeknight, servers are attentive and responsive but I never feel pressured to hurry up and "Finish right now!" the way I do on a Friday or Saturday night.
Otherwise, for a lunch or early dinner, the food is good, the prices are reasonable and the building itself is pretty cool.
Wonderful building but was disappointed that the authentic old, maybe 300 yr. old? door isn't used an as entrance as that would have enhanced the ambiance.
Great hanging out at the bar. Comfortable as a single woman waiting for my friend. Bartender and customers were friendly and polite. Enjoyed the beer recommendation of the person next to me.
Another visit: lunch alone. I had the Seared Tuna Asian salad. I really enjoy spicy food, not what passes for spicy food around here but authentic flavorful food well seasoned. While the tuna was perfectly cooked; too much dressing was used and it was exceptionally spicy. The level of spiciness should have been noted on the menu or someone made a mistake, it was that hot. The hostess was excellent. She greeted me immediately and offered me a choice of tables. Service was lousy. Cute perky waitress was another story. She took an incredibly long time to deliver a menu and the food was practically dropped on the table. I wasn't offered any refills for my water or iced tea. As it was one of the almost 100 degree days, this was unforgivable and is particularly notable as I was there for a late lunch and only seven other tables in the entire restaurant with more than two waitresses were being served.
Another visit: leisurely lunch with a friend I haven't seen in years. Lovely to be seated outside and attentive service. However, we both ordered rare burgers... rare as in walked through the kitchen, cold & red. Received medium as in thoroughly cooked gray meat. We were enjoying our afternoon and let the overcooked meat go. I thought it was one of those we always cook the meat our way places until...
The Next Visit: during which I received a perfectly cooked rare burger and truly crisp & tasty fries. Plus, best service I've ever experienced there.
One reason I return is that I can walk here, the ambiance is pleasant, the service tends to be very good, and the food - now that I know it is possible to have it prepared properly and as I order it - is improving.
Quality is consistent, food is good (albeit a little on the normal/bar food side). Â Salads are excellent, and the burgers are great also. Â The house beers aren't always 100% compelling, but there are a few house beers that are always top-notch (the Red, the Blonde). Â Good local place, and the scenery is nice.
Review Source:Try the nachos with pulled pork. Â The nachos plate was large. Â The nachos themselves were crispy and the pull pork was tender and delicious. Â I did ate too much and was not able to finish my also very tasty burger with the fontina cheese and onions. Â My kids love sesame chicken which they loved.
Definately recommend this place.
Last night was my first night here and I don't even know where to begin.,
We waited 15 min for a table on a Monday, not because it was busy but because there's about 10 tables in the restaurant unless you want to sit in the patio area..
Our waitress came over to "introduce herself" aka go "um yea I'm so and so.are you ready?" we ordered the z bar calamari and buffalo chicken bites. And I order the hot apple cider with no rum.
The food is whatever. Forgettable and small. The cider was ridiculous- like liquid apple pie.
The food was dropped off and we NEVER saw the waitress again.
Not ONCE! And then here's the best part... We're sitting there and right behind my boyfriends head I see two MICE crawling up the wall.
I have to admit they're cute and everything but in a restaurant!?
We grabbed the hostess immediately and her response was "awe mice how cute!"....................yea
Anyway, the manager is notified. He creepily sits on top of me to view said mice and then gets up and quietly notifies us our bill has been taken care of. That's great and all but that's not going to keep my mouth shut.
As far as the waitress goes, the icing on the cake is that she never came back in the end to check on us or even give us a check for that matter. Eventually we got so sick of waiting that we just left, leaving her no tip bc we were so appauled by her service. Â Seriously it was awful and I'm a server myself so I know what it takes to be a good, bad, or awful waitress. I'll never waste my time here again.
Heres a place that truly wastes a location. Its right on a beautiful waterfall in Historic Milford CT. Probably the best location in the town. But it caters to the ghetto crowd. Club music , dark lights, rude service. It really is a huge shame.
They have windows that overlook the falls too. But no one will see them. They call themselves a brewery. This place WOULD be awesome as a brewery. But it doesnt feel like one at all. If it was about the beers and the food that would be a great place to hang out. Or to start your night and club in some ghetto part of town later
the only reason it gets 2 stars and not one is because after I got engaged I took my fiance there and we had a nice seat by the waterfall in the daytime. ha... But it deserves a one star
The first time I went, I ate at a table next to the bar, which was really pretty (lots of color changing lights and stuff), but really loud (lots of drunken people groping each other and laughing hysterically). The food was great though. The next time I went, they brought us to a magical back room overlooking the waterfall, where you couldn't hear a thing from the bar, it was awesome.
Review Source:I have no idea why there are so many 2 star reviews for SBC. Â Today was my first time visiting & I enjoyed myself. Â The atmosphere is fine & the beers were good. Â I had a Sampler, which featured a red, brown, blonde, IPA, black stout & a seasonal summer. Â All were decent with the Red being my favorite.
The FOOD was what made SBC a place I would definitely return to (as well as how nice the surrounding area of Milford is). Â I had the Southwestern Turkey Burger which was delicious. Â Juicy & full of flavor/color, this burger has given me more of a reason to try Turkey Burgers in the future. Â My girlfriend had the Mahi Mahi Salad, which she could not stop raving about.
A stop at SBC is a must if you are in downtown Milford. Â Keep it up!
I seem to have had the opposite experience from other recent reviewers. Â I found that I really enjoyed the 7-beer sampler whereas I thought the food was just OK. Â My favorites of the 7 were the Big Head Blonde, the Red, the Stout, and the summer seasonal - I forget the name of the last one, but it was a summer wheat, I believe.
We ordered the appetizer special - a spinach artichoke dip. Â Although I very much appreciated the fact that it wasn't so heavy and cheesy like other spinach artichoke dips I've tried, they really needed to season this one better. Â Similarly, the tortilla chips they served the dip with lacked almost any salt. Â Not sure if they make those in-house or not.
I had the Brew Burger and the burger itself was good and cooked to order but the sauteed onions (I believe they were sauteed in beer which would make sense) completely over-powered both the fontina and surprisingly, even the bacon. Â I honestly didn't think that was possible! Â
I did enjoy the sweet potato fries though and thought they were cut to the perfect size so you could really taste the sweet potato while still enjoying the feeling of eating fries.
We had two desserts for the table, the special snickers pie (meh) and the molten chocolate cake. Â The latter was excellent (hard to mess those up though).
Some of my family had the ribs, and they seemed to really enjoy their meal, so maybe I'd try that next time around and see if it was just an off-day for the chef/food or maybe just what I ordered.
First time at SBC and I have to say the reviews had me worried but it was a pleasant surprise. There are 24 taps (12 on each side of the bar), a few duplicates, but none the less the selection is good. Their October fest is 9% of goodness. I got their SBC burger and it was good. I wasn't expecting a wrap, but it was better than I thought. Their sweet potato fries were some of the better ones I've had. Not overly busy either which was good, granted it was a Sunday evening.
Review Source:There are quite a few bad reviews. And yet, in eating here almost every week for the past 5 months. Many times we are eating here twice a week, I have found nothing inconsistent or wrong with the food. Maybe because we go at off times, and more often for lunch. We do not drink so the beer choices do not influence our like for the place. Â We haven'e seen the inconsistency talked about in the other reviews.
The food is always good, and the value is here. I love the Penne Rustica, the Buffalo Chicken Wrap, the Asian Salad, and the Nachos...just to name  a few really great dishes here.
While I love the food, love the location, and love the design of the space, the service can be at times horrid. Depending who your server is, you could have exceptional service or none at all.
So in a nutshell, love the food, love the location, and the need more servers like Michael there. He is exceptional.
For the record...
The MILFORD location does not brew their beer on site. It doesn't really matter, however, because most of the beer SBC makes, wherever they brew it, isn't very good.
Beer selection is bad. Really bad. When the best beer you have on draft is PBR, that's not a good beer selection. Also, sometimes their "SBC-brewed" light beer tastes remarkably like Coors Light. I'm not going to say that I can definitively confirm this, but let's just say a little birdie told me...
Once again, I have nothing bad to say about the staff or service. They are all really nice people, are very attentive, and do a great job.
The food is still hit or miss. Sometimes you get great value for your money, sometimes the food just plain sucks.
I'm sure there are some regulars who love it. There are also people who love Applebee's. Such is life.
I have been to SBC a hand full of times. Every time I walk away saying "never again" but I always seem to get sucked back in.
The food is never terrible but usually leaves quite a bit to be desired. It just has that generic quality you would normally find from the big chain restaurants like Applebee's or The 99. I can honestly recommend nothing as I have enjoyed nothing.
The decor is somewhat cool but deceiving. It gives you the impression that they brew on site but you see no actual indication that they do. I'm fairly certain they don't which begs the question "what's the point?"
Service is pretty abysmal as well. Just a bunch of young servers that give off the feeling that by you being there, you're bothering them in some way "Sorry to bother you but would you mind being friendly and attentive to my needs as a patron?".
The nightlife also sucks, unless you're into being cramped to hell in the dark with music blaring. Seriously, it gets so tightly packed that you're lucky if you can get your arm above your waist to sip on your drink.
Some people I know dig it, I don't.
I was here on a Saturday night. I really liked the music. The drinks were okay (I didn't like how the shots were served in wide ketchup cups). The crowd was tolerable. I agree with M.G.; there were too many guys there with overspiked hair, and a few of them were very rude to me when I turned them down.
Review Source:Deserves props for being one of the few microbreweries in Connecticut, however the brews are mediocre compared to those in Seattle. The food is good, although not particularly creative. The Mahi Mahi Mojo sandwich is particularly yummy. The fries (and occasionally homemade crisps!) are consistently good.
Note that while there are several SBCs located around Connecticut, in our experience the food and beer qualities are quite consistent between them.
Everything about this place is awful. Service is terrible. Food is terrible. Management is terrible. I had a very bad experience. Our waitress practically ignored us AND got our order wrong. The manager came over to apologize, but wasn't very kind about it.
Also, I ordered a dish that was a special that night and later that night I became violently ill. I don't know for sure whether or not it was the food I ate there but it definitely was food poisoning. The experience was bad enough that I don't plan on going back again.
One of my friends recently asked me to visit SBC for karaoke night for a friend's birthday and while I did show up, I managed to completely miss the karaoke (THANK GOD!). Anyway, I can't attest to the food, but I did have a fantastic time dancing about to late 80s early 90s music and drinking fabulous drinks from fabulous bartenders. The crowd is a good-looking, fun and friendly crowd and I never felt like it ever got too loud and rowdy. I think I may have to stop in more often!
