This was a poor experience. The service took the "Seat Yourself" sign very seriously. The staff congregated in the back and gossiped the whole time and practically hid from customers. I literally walked in a didn't see a staff member.
On to the food, which reflected the same care. The ribs (I know, my fault right? But I'm thinking "it's St. Louis aren't they known for ribs?") were boiled and super over cooked. The sauce was garbage and poured on. Maybe they were also microwaved. Sweet potato fries were decent. Slaw was tiny and unremarkable. Even the iced tea tasted below average. Everything about this place is below average except the decor, which seemed to be the last thing anyone took seriously when developing this concept for HMS Host. If they didn't have a monopoly in the airport an had ANY competition from a small business owner they would be out of business. Judging by the other airport reviews all the places blow here. And it's slow and it's not cheap and it's the only full service restaurant in terminal C and God please get me out of St Louis to a real airport.
BEWARE IF YOU'RE IN A HURRY. Â VERY, VERY SLOW
First things, first. Â The beer here is incredible, as would be expected. Every brew is served at the proper temperature. Fresh crisp flavor is always on tap. My personal favorite is Schlafly Pilsner.
Now for the down side. The servers at the Lambert Schlafly are great. The kitchen is another matter. We fly often and prefer to grab a quick bite to eat before catching our plane. Â Notice the word QUICK.
My most recent experience with Schlafly was strike two. Â A few weeks ago, it took 25 minutes for me get oatmeal in the morning. Â Yesterday, it took 35 minutes to be served fish and chips (my favorite dish at The Tap Room). Â The fish was barely warm, a little greasy and nothing like the fish served at Schalfly's signature location. Â Further, the fries were cool, limp and flavorless.
I want to patronize this location based on my love of The Tap Room. Â But I don't know if the Lambert Schalfly deserves an opportunity to earn strike three.
If you need a beer. Â Great. Â Otherwise, keep on walking.
Has a pretty good steak sandwich, but the food took forever to come out. Â When you're in an airport, I think it's reasonable to expect your restaurant experience to maybe last 35 minutes. Â But even after 45 minutes of sitting there, we were still waiting for our food. Â Therefore, while the sandwich had good flavor, I was not able to enjoy it in the rush.
