Love this place! Nice place to go in a small group or the whole family! I have had so many things here, and they have all been wonderful! I have never tried a new thing and thought, "Well that was ok/so-so/terrible and I never want to order that again." The chicken is perfect, very crispy. The walleye is fantastic! I recently tried the chicken fried steak, and it was wonderful. The different salads and sandwiches are stellar. I recommend the tenderloin sandwich, the fajita salad, and many other wonderful choices! Bottom line, this place has something for the whole family. Picky eaters and easy going folks! Everyone will find something they love here!
Review Source:So I have eaten here about a dozen times. I really don't think that a review should be done based upon one experience unless that experience was so tremendous and traumatic you really have no choice.
The Breakfast at this place is as good as it gets for a diner atmosphere. My eggs have always been cooked to perfection and the meats are very good. As mentioned, the hash browns are outstanding. I would strongly recommend this place for breakfast or lunch.
Dinner was a little disappointing. There are mainly fried items on the menu but they do have a selection of other items not involving grease. I have only had dinner twice here. The first time, I ordered the Walleye. It was very greasy as it was battered and fried. I should have expected that but, thought it might have been better. It was flavorless as there were no spices.
I would highly recommend this place for Breakfast or Lunch! However, I would look elsewhere for Dinner.
The food at Shannon's isn't five stars, but it isn't bad either. Shannon's is just okay. Everything comes ala carte so you don't have to get a fries or chips with your sandwich if you don't want them.
My first time here a server spilled an entire tray of food on my table. They were very nice about it and quickly cleaned every up. The taco salad smelled pretty good. I didn't eat it, but it spilled all across the table so I got a good look at it.
I've been there a couple times since then. Never been wowed by the food, but never disliked it. Prices are reasonable, service is friendly and the food comes out quickly and hot.
My last trip I looked around and noticed that the dining room looked like the dining room at a retirement home. Lots of old people there with their friends having a good time. Not exactly my venue, but I see the appeal for others.
I highly recommend this place for breakfast. I love the Shannon's Hash browns. That is biscuits, sausage gravy, cheese, and hash browns. I get mine without the onions. One of the best breakfasts I have ever had. I have also tried the horseshoe for lunch and it was just okay, so this rating is purely for the breakfast.
This place is always busy with regulars which is a good sign, and the wait staff is very friendly and most are happy to talk to you.
The individual items on the Shannon's Hash-browns meal are probably all just a little above average, but together they complimented each other and no one item overpowered the others. A must is the fact that the sausage is broken up into the gravy and is well seasoned.
The price is between $5 and $8, but it is reasonable for the amount of food you are getting.
To buffet or not to buffet... that is the question when it comes to breakfast...
BREAKFAST BUFFET: No hashbrowns, but they do have homestyle fries. French toast stix!!! Pancakes, meats galore, scrambled eggs... the basics.
MENU: Good combo choices, the right choice if you don't want to stuff yourself and prefer your eggs cooked to order. Lots of things can come covered with B&G gravy... a little too rich for my cholesterol levels.
MEATS: Bacon was done perfect. Â Most people suck at this, so mad props to the cook. Sausage links also quite awesome. Did not try the ham, and sausage patties looked like frozen discs reheated.
EGGS: Done properly as I asked. Â Thank you for meeting my satisfaction level.
TOAST: Didn't mess it up. Again satisfied.
COFFEE: ok, nothing fancy.
PRICES: Reasonable.
ATMOSPHERE: lots of tables and chairs, great for big groups, but kinda loud.
VERDICT: For a standard breakfast with nothing fancy its a solid choice. Not my favorite considering expectations were met and not exceeded but didn't do anything wrong so a solid 3 in my book.
I always opt to not eat here because the home cooked food doesn't taste anything like my mom's home cooked food. Â It tastes more like school food to me. Â I do think they make a mean buffalo chicken sandwich. Â The chicken is huge. Â I think they split a huge chicken breast in half. Â That's the only thing I've tried there that I liked. Â It's really quite good. Â Servers still aren't that friendly, depends on who you get. Â I think that can really make or break a meal.
Review Source:Met up with some old college friends and our hotel was on this end of Bloomington. Â So we asked at the front desk where a good breakfast spot was (on a Sunday at about 11am.) Â They recommended Shannon's. Â
We arrived and the parking lot was completely FULL. Â We walked ito the place expecting a 30- 40 minute wait, but there were tables available. They seated the 3 of us promptly. Â Most people seemed to be there for the breakfast brunch buffet. Â 2 of us had entrees, one had the buffet. Â Our waitress was pleasant- but no nonsense- and constantly kept our coffee cups full. Â That was REALLY nice- as we all needed the boost that morning.
The food was all under $6, buffet was $7-something. Â Taste was fairly bland actually, but a bit of salt and pepper did the trick. Â On our way out at about 12:10, another family was walking through the door, and the hostess said, I'm sorry- we close at noon on Sundays. ??? Â Good to know.
