Can't speak for the rest of the menu but the oysters were great and service was excellent. 50 cent oysters on Wednesday nights.

Excellent sushi.  Awesome oysters.  But the rest of the food is just so-so.  When the restaurant first opened the food was better, imo.  The drinks are great and the atmosphere is awesome for happy hour, and meeting people.

It's over priced for the service and the food.  This is my second visit and my second disappointment.

Horrible food and primadonna chef who thinks he's great but doesn't know his ass from his elbow! The sushi chef started a fight with me and my wife and chef Bragg defended him, great customer service!! 250.00 for 5 people and treated like shit!

I was excited about trying out Sharky's and I have given it three tries and have left each time with horrible food.  The first time, I went to dinner at Sharky's with my wife. I really wanted Grouper. I think they went out and got a Filet o Fish sandwich from McDonalds and placed it on my plate. It was horrible, fishy and small. My wife was equally disappointed. We decided to give it one last try for brunch.  Our food was just as bad as before. To top it off, my son ordered the french toast.  When he asked for syrup, the waiter looked at us like we were asking to cut off his arm.  He stated that they had no syrup and could give us jam instead. I will never go back.

I had a great business dinner at Sharky's. I was hesitant at first after reading the reviews. The customer service was extraordinary and my seafood splatter with Shrimp and Lobster legs was very good. It was unlimited Oyster Wednesday and we were able to get a table immediately.

Since I can't give Sharky's 2.5 stars, I'll be nice and upgrade them to 3. I had a BOGO coupon for any entree up to $25 and had never been, so my husband obliged and took me there for dinner. We decided to sit at the bar, since there were a lot of good football games going on. I spotted oysters on the menu - a dozen for $8.....pretty good deal! It took about 20 min. for them to come out, but they were very good.

My husband ordered a sesame crusted salmon with mango. I (trying to kick off my diet early) opted for grilled scallops with asparagus. I should have ordered something else...maybe something with a cream sauce, because my scallops were so overcooked and tough....same went for the asparagus. My husband's dish, on the other hand, was delicious. I must admit, there was some serous pouting going on. I feel no urge to go back to Sharky's.

I've been to Sharky's twice now.  A-OK is a fitting rating for this establishment.  While the food and service is good, there's a certain lack of "wow" factor that keeps it from standing out as a seafood restaurant.  Because they play it safe, I guess it shows up in the food.

Sharky's is located in a busy part of Memphis' Poplar Ave.  There is a lot of competition on this strip.  Sharky looks like a yellow ranch home that had been converted into a restaurant.  It has a more than adequately sized parking lot and there is an outdoor eating area for nicer days or evenings.  Inside of the restaurant is broken up into two sections; one side is a dining area, the other side is a bar with some tables where you can eat.  There is your requisite salt water tank at the entrance.  I was appreciative of the fact that the tank was clean and the fish were happy.  These things can be real swamp pits sometimes.

The menu is obviously heavy on the seafood with some beef offerings.  I've had fish taco's, three tacos with corn tortillas stuffed with grilled mahi mahi, cabbage and a sauce I couldn't identify.  The tacos were pretty good and well worth ordering.  I've also had the peel and eat shrimp which was OK, it is what it is.  Red beans and rice was kind of bland and didn't do much for me.  Each meal is accompanied with these jalapeno hush puppies which were the highlight of my visits.

The establishment is somewhat pricey but not outragously so.  Obviously alcohol will set you back some pretty serious bucks.  Typically a meal will run about 30 bucks a person.

In summary, If I wanted to play it safe and take my parents to a nice place to eat, this would be it.  But it's not for foodie thrillseekers.

I wanted to love this place, I really did. But the hefty price tag just didn't live up to what we got. The service started out great, though our waiter made himself a bit scarce towards the end, which was a bit odd since it looked like he had only three other tables.

The food itself was good, the crab bisque was awesome, lots of actual crab in huge chunks and the soup had some flavour. Some places just give you tiny flakes of crab (or krab) in a thick white soup. I also got the shrimp cocktail. Pretty hard to mess that up so can't complain too much. The shrimp were deveined, thankfully. The cocktail sauce was way too thick though so it was hard to actually dip it. The crab cakes were the disappointment, though. They were on the spicy side and all filler, which was surprising given how generous they were with the crab with the bisque. I sent them back I was so displeased.

Altogether two soups, teas, and a shrimp cocktail came to $30! Geez!! I had to do a double take and make sure I didn't get someone else's check or something.

I still miss Steak and Ale.

Good food, descent service, and nice ambiance. The brunch is excellent, especially on Mother's and Father's day.

Twice, I've been to their bar. There's an unfriendly atmosphere to this place. On separate occasions, I was given the impression by the no-personality bartenders that they were too good for this job. Place was littered with guys wearing upped-collar Polo shirts and Sperry Top-Siders, talking about golf like it was a real sport (it's a cute recreational game). No third visit planned.

The crab bisque is thick and hearty.  I like the atmosphere - reminds me of Destin.

I visited Sharky's for the first time last week.  I have to say I was pretty excited because I heard that the bacon wrapped shrimp were good.  Lately I've become slightly obsessed with bacon wrapped shrimp.  I'm on a quest to find the best in Memphis.

My friends and I sat at the bar.  It was around 8pm on a Friday night and the bar was mostly empty.  The drinks were strong and the bartender was friendly.  Kudos to management for having Titto's, my favorite vodka.

Of course I ordered the bacon wrapped shrimp right away.  When the shrimp arrived I was immediately disappointed.  Four shrimp for $9.99?!  What the heck?  Not only that, but the these shrimp were barely wrapped in bacon.  Instead of using an entire peace of bacon for each shrimp, there was just a small piece of bacon on each shrimp.  I thought, "This isn't bacon wrapped shrimp... this is shrimp wearing a bacon jacket!!"  The remoulade sauce served on the side was good and there was plenty of it.  I just do not understand why they are so stingy with the pork...

I will not be returning to Sharky's.

Atmosphere left something to be desired, but my wife and I really enjoyed the food. The Clam Chowder was some of the best I've ever had.

    Good stuff!
I'd recommend doing the sushi and raw oysters from the cool little bar up front. I like most of everything I've had there, except, possibly the blackened seasoning might be too strong for some delicate foods like scallops and such. But all in all a far better than average experience with fresh seafood and excellent service. Plus a really good date night menu which features specials for two for under 40 bucks.  Go! You'll like it!

We went here on a Sunday afternoon for a late birthday lunch for my dad. We decided to split a broiled seafood platter and get some calamari for an appetizer. The calamari was overcooked and tough. The broiled seafood platter was beyond disappointing.

All of the food on the platter was overcooked and tasteless with exception of the crab legs. The only redeeming thing that saved this restaurant from a 1 star rating with me was the crab legs and the service. Our service experience was very good, unfortunately however that's not enough to make us come back.

Went on a Thursday night. Not a long wait and the food was much better than the reviews I was reading.

We had the calamari - which had a really good sweet Thai sauce. We also had the seared ahi tuna and the artichoke & spinach trout.

    We'll definitely go back.

Really nice, easy-going place.  Had the fish tacos on our visit, and just loved them.  Would definitely return if I was going back to Memphis.

Many of the older reviews are not very impressive.  If you've been before,  come back and give it another try.  Their lunch specials are really good and not badly priced.  Sushi is fresh and a great bargain.  I tend to stick with the catch of the day.  I had sautéed trout with a lemon butter sauce on the side.  Very good.

I had the blackened tuna appetizer, which was really good. But I think most of the food on the menu was overpriced.  Also, the drinks aren't strong enough for my liking.

Update: I went again and had the tuna sandwich.  I order the sandwich  "as rare as possible" and it came cooked all the way through.  I sent it back and asked for "rare" again, and they got it right the second time.  The sandwich was good, but I'm still not impressed with this place.

If you call yourself a 'gulf grill' then at least the shrimp should be cooked to something other than a gooey paste.  Gumbo would have been good if it were served hotter and didn't have over-cooked seafood in it.

Had a good meal with a group of friends the other night.  Order the bacon wrapped shrimp as an appetizer which was ok, not great, but ok.  Had the Mac n'cheese with shrimp and scallops which was pretty good.  Could have been served a little warmer but the scallops were perfectly cooked!

Decent wine by the glass selection and the server was very attentive.  Overall, we had a good experience.

We went in here after going to Owen Brennan's @ 10:30 to find them closing up. This place was pretty thin customer-wise at 10:30 PM on a Saturday night, but they were open. We bellied up to the bar and had a quick bowl of clam chowder which was very tastey. We will try this place again.

I've only been here once, and I'm not sure why that is, as I had a pretty nice time.

I think that was due, in part, to the delicious Appletinis paired with blackened sashimi tuna.  It was definitely rocking my world that day.

They carry a great selection of mixed drinks, wine, and imported and domestic beer.  While it's a restaurant, I didn't feel out of place keeping the food simple and focusing mainly on drinks with friends.

Good food, nice atmosphere and definitely one of the most popular places to go to on Wednesday nights for singles in their 30's and up.  Great seafood appetizers, including sushi. But go early to grab a seat because it gets crowded. Live music in the bar or outdoors on the patio.

I do tend to agree with the reviewer below who said the prices are high.  It's not outrageous, but in my opinion just a little high for what you get.

The food was pretty good, but VERY, VERY pricey. We had a good time, but for my money - Owen Brennans.

I went back and tried the sushi. It was good and fresh, not as good as Sekisui Humphreys but I enjoyed it and will have it again here. I went on a Saturday night when there was an acoustic band and noticed the average age of the crowd was a little older than my last visit (50+). Not saying that is a bad thing, just an observation that is was different than last time.

This place was less than impressive. I went for lunch one Saturday with my family and all four of us got something different. None of us were overly thrilled with our meals. It wasn't awful but I've definitely had much better for less money. Unless someone I'm with is just dying to go, I most likely won't be eating at this place again. However, the bar area was really nice so I could possibly enjoy a few adult beverages there.

Great lunch menu. The place looks cheesy from the outside but the fish I had was great.  They also have a sushi bar that I didn't try.
I hear the bar is pretty fun at night.

Sharky's is not a bad restaurant but if you are a seafood lover, there may be better places to go in Memphis.  It fits in well with the other restaurants on that section of Poplar.  The atmosphere is professional.  Not trendy and not too stuffy.  A step up from the deluge of flair at places like Fridays.  I went here for dinner with a coworker and we both thought the service was good.  The waiter was present when needed but let us enjoy our conversation.  We were also able to watch the Grizzlies game.  It's funny that the other reviewer mentioned that the parking lot was full because it was also full when I went there though there couldn't have been more than 10 people in the restaurant.  Are they paying people to park there to make it look popular?  But I digress.  To speak of more important things, the food is not bad.  The shrimp and fish was fresh.  The scallops were delicious.  Overall, there is nothing that really stands out as warranting more than 3 stars but that's not to say that Sharky's isn't an "A-ok" restaurant that serves fresh seafood in the middle of the midwest.

okay. so every year we take my mom out for her birthday. one year we took her to yia-yia's, the next we went to bittersweet, the next lobster king. notice a trend?  yeah, even mom noticed. everywhere you take me closes.  so watch out sharky's gulf grill because this is where we took mom this year.
first of all, we tried to get a reservation. i called. they said they don't take reservations. they said they do call ahead seating. the young lady who answered the phone said to call about 30 minutes prior to our coming and we could get our name on the list. so i followed the directions and called 30 minutes prior. another young lady told me that she couldn't take my name down because there was not a wait list right now. so i say okay and am slightly confused. what is the point of calling ahead? anyways, we get there and the parking lot is so full that we have to park at the bank next door. i was not going to be happy if we had to wait after all that. we walked in and luckily they had a table for us and it just had to be cleaned.
next, we sit down. the place does not even resemble the steak and ale that is used to be. it wants to be upscale. fancy bar to the right with large flat screens mounted above.  the dining area has low lighting and white tablecloths. servers all were wearing black polo shirts.  anywho, we came here to check out the seafood. mom loves seafood. we try to order the oysters which is a large part of the menu and are informed that they are out. no oysters. it's 7:15 or 7:30 pm.  i understand if the truck didn't come or there is a shortage but it's prime dinner time.  it's like going to kfc and there's no chicken. so then we scramble for an appetizer. we got a 1 lb of steamed crab legs. they were fairly fresh and good. also, we tried the sushi--crawfish roll. there was real crawfish in there surprisingly since this is not usually a time of year where you can get it. the pieces were large which i'm not usually a fan of but at least they were not monster sized like at sakura.  the crawfish roll was decent and the spice hits you at the end of the bite.  their menu is not large. one thing that i didn't like is the lack of options for entrees. if you wanted something, it was usually in platter form-either fried or grilled. you can get fish in various preps with different sauces like bonefish grill. the scallops were offered separate with 2 sides. however, you could not get the crab cakes as dinner entree without getting a platter. it was one of the better things on the menu. i think they should offer that way with 2 sides. mom ended up getting the grilled seafood platter. the seafood was fairly fresh. the scallops were definitely on small side but they were sweet enough.  my hubby got the scallops blackened which didn't care for that prep.  all i could taste was the burnt pepper and i think it needed some salt or something. i got the fish tacos. they were just okay. they were really messy to eat and i need more seasoning. the mango salsa was not very flavorful and neither was the cole slaw. it was acidic but that was the only flavor.  all in all, i was disappointed. i wanted another seafood option besides red lobster and the half shell.  i'm going back to the half shell. they offer a larger menu and have specials that are interesting flavorwise.  also, they have never told me that they were out of oysters.  hopefully, sharkey's gulf grill can make it but i am warning you--we took mom there for her birthday which seems to be the kiss of restaurant deaths.
