I took my wife here for lunch instead of the Bradly Teletheater in Windsor Locks because it was closer for us Friday afternoon 5/27/2013. It was a huge mistake. The one and only reason I give this a two star is because the waitress was very polite. The food was gross. I've never seen slop like this before and I spent a few years eating from an open mess in the military. My wife ordered the chick salad wrap and onion rings and I requested the Belmont Burger cooked medium with onion rings. The wrap had hard chicken in it with very little "salad" ingredients. The onion rings were burnt and greasy. My burger was over cooked and smelled like a cigarette and also the onion rings were a disaster. I took a few bites of the burger and said forget this. YUCK!! My wife was disgusted with the entire meal. Never again.
Review Source:I have to assume most of their business is done on Friday and Saturday nights when you can drink outside in the summer. Went there last night for a few drinks (sat inside) and a pitcher of premium draft was $18.50 per pitcher! Honestly, I was shocked at that pricing. I was expecting to pay around $15.00. We were also overcharged $2.00 for onion rings (which they fixed). Either way, 2 pitchers of beer and a basket of onion rings cost almost $60.00 with tip. I felt like they were being sneaky and trying to overcharge us without noticing. Prices are outrageous. Women's rooms are disgusting. Service is slow. Not worth the time, money or effort.
Review Source:I don't like this place. Not remotely. Whenever I'm with anyone who mentions going here, I cringe and offer any other suggestion within a 20-mile radius. I gave it more than its fair share of chances over the course of a few years and every single time, the food is mediocre, the waitstaff and bartenders are rude and unattentive, the ambience is lacking, and the beer choices are limited. I have to say that they have a great patio to lounge around on a warm afternoon, but that's not enough to save this place.
Review Source:Went on a Friday night around 5 PM. I noticed there seemed to be a lot of empty spaces in the parking lot. Went in and was promptly greeted by a gentleman at the podium who welcomed me and promised to send a server right over to the bar.
The server appeared as promised, and I ordered a beer. My friend was stuck in traffic  so I nursed it while waiting for him. For a Friday night right after work, the bar was full, but the tables in the bar were mostly empty.
A few patrons shuffled back and forth between the off track betting machines and the television screens which were showing races. Occasionally, I would hear someone mumble, "come on 5, come on 5..." then crumple their betting slip.
The server was attentive enough, but not overbearing. We ordered when my friend arrived. The menu was limited to one page of items, but each was surprisingly well-prepared.
I ordered a cheese-steak sub with sweet potato fries, and both were tasty. It wasn't the best I've ever had, but it was a step up from some thrown-together sandwiches you get from some places.
The crowed picked up a bit, but after 7, it thinned out again. The place is huge, and how empty it was for a Friday night made quite an impression.
Overall, I'd say it was okay. I won't rush to go back there, but I might return again if I'm in the area.
Difficult to decide between Eek! and Meh. Â My Fiancee and I had stopped in on a slow Thursday evening for a few drinks and a quick bite.
Don't get me wrong, Shea's is a iffy place, at best, Â on a Friday or Saturday night, and that is only because of the patio they added on the back.
The last I knew, Shae's presented itself as an "Irish-American Grill". Being of Irish decent and have spent a large part of my life in Ireland, I can say that in no way does this represent an "Irish" establishment, unless your looking for some stickers of 4-Leaf clovers everywhere. Nor does the Irish food they offer represent anything your would receive on the Emerald Isle.
We did not have too much time and the bartender we had was nothing notable. After sitting at the bar and waiting to be asked what we would like for drinks after 10min, I felt as if I had to chug my beer in front of the bartender to make sure we would be noticed if we wanted another. Â After getting our drinks and ordering food, was when the fun began.
I had ordered chicken and my fiancee some nachos. We had both been pretty engaged in a game that was on to notice that the chicken I had been eating was completely raw. After eating about 2-3 bites I had noticed and immediately told the bartender. The bartender was not only snobby about me bringing it to her attention that the chicken was raw, but I think she took it personally. I had asked to speak with the manager on duty.
Not only was this manager extremely rude and obnoxious, but rather sleazy. When trying to talk to the manager it had seemed that he was more interested in leering at my fiancee than dealing with the issue. When I had reminded him of the concern and health issues with eating raw chicken, he had told me that eating raw chicken is not a health hazard and if I get sick from the food there is a hospital in the area. His only solution to the problem was his best line, "We can try to cook that piece of chicken again". Â After keeping my cool and eventually getting the manager to remove my chicken from our order, we promptly left.
Would strongly advise to stay away and spend your hard earned dollars somewhere else!
This summer my boyfriend, friend & I were looking for something to do on a Monday night. We had been to Shea's before on a Friday night and it was awesome. On this Monday it was kind of drizzly out but it looked like it would pass so we chose to go to Shea's because we knew the outside patio is just a nice atmosphere. Yeah it was a slow Monday night, and I don't like bashing servers because I know everyone has bad days... but this bartender could not even act like he was interested in serving us.
The three of us sat down at the bar, there were two other people sitting on the other side of the bar. The bartender handed us menus, didn't return for about 10 minutes to ask us if we wanted a drink, didn't mention if there were any happy hour specials. My boyfriend and friend ordered beers, I ordered a malibu pineapple which arrived to me 5 minutes after they got their drinks... not sure if pineapple juice wasn't stocked or what. I watched our bartender text on his phone as we sat there wanting to order food. He'd walk to the other side of the bar, charge his phone, walk to the back of the restaurant, stand there, text on his phone, walk to the back of the restaurant... and then just picture this happening over and over again.
Our food comes brought out by another server, the extra salad dressing I asked for wasn't with my salad and she was quick to leave after dropping the food, I had to wait for our server to return 10 minutes later. He got the dressing, then disappeared to the back of the restaurant again. I finished my drink a few minutes later. He never returned to ask us how our food was or to ask if I wanted another drink (honestly I probably would have had 3 more) this guy was the worst server i've had in my life. He even seemed like he was potentially a nice guy just maybe in a fight with his girl and needed to be texting her... I really don't know!! But it was ANNOYING!!! We could not wait to leave, and I am glad I didn't spend more money there.
I can say that I returned a few weeks later for sumo wrestling. That was fun!
Sat outside on a Sunday afternoon. There was a decent but low number of people there drinking. My group was the only table eating. 1st round of drinks, 3 out of 4 were wrong. When pointing that out, the waitress said its not my fault, the bartender gave me the wrong drinks. I guess the incorrect color of the drinks wasn't a hint to her.
After a significant wait, we ordered food. After a very significant wait, it came out. All orders were wrong, ranging from condiments to missing sides. Then silverware was brought out. Rather than bring the side dishes that were missing, the waitress ignored the table. The bill included the side dish that was never received.
There is no redeeming factor here. Possibly the worst service I've ever received. You're better off going to a chain restaurant than this place.
Great place for drinks. Service was horrible. Like another reviewer said, the waitresses were too busy socializing to wait on tables. My waitress was like a zombie. No smile, no greeting and she acted like she hated the world. I thought the food was good, granted I only had the Caprese Salad. Not sure I would go there for an actual dinner after reading these reviews, but would return for drinks.
Review Source:This review is mostly for Shea's on a Friday night or the weekend as more of a bar than a restaurant. Â I have eaten here a couple of times, but just the basic burger and wings, which both are average to below average "bar food." Â I used to come here with co workers at a former job on Saturday and Sunday nights, and most of them that ordered food said the same thing.
Pricing seems to be pretty standard for bar and grills in the area, and I haven't heard of anyone feeling anything was overpriced.
They tend to be pretty dead during the week and during the day on Sundays (which I have been many times to watch football). Â Sometimes I like the more relaxed feel with friends and practically no wait to order a drink, but for people looking for a more social scene or to meet new people, coming at these times wouldn't be ideal. Â They also offer betting on horse racing in a separate section which I haven't tried, but have seen many people do. Â They show the races live on multiple TVs, and it seems to be a good setup.
The atmosphere on Friday and Saturday nights is good for the younger crowd, as many college students and recent graduates seem to be main people coming later on, but I have seen older couples as well who tend to just come for the music or to watch a sporting event. Â In the summer, the outside area is great with multiple bars, many TV's to watch sporting events and live music many nights. Â There is also a new private area to have private events, which I haven't tried but have gotten good feedback on. Â During the winter or colder months there are much less people coming, as half of the allure is being outside enjoying the weather with music and friends.
Most of the bartenders I have spoken with have been nice, though when they get busy it can be a long wait for a drink and they can get a little less courteous, which I can understand.
I would recommend Shea's to a younger crowd for Friday and Saturday nights in the summer, and to football fans who like a relaxed feel on Sundays, as well as someone looking to bet on the ponies that doesn't want to go to Foxwoods or Mohegan. Â If you are looking for great food, I would look somewhere else though.
This was probably the worst place I have ever eaten. It felt dirty just when you sit down at the table. The waitress was terrible and had no personality and there was a bug in my soda. My fish sandwich was awful, i had one bite and the server didn't even acknowledge my dislike. Now I do not expect to get anything free even if I didn't eat my meal but being a server myself at least acknowledge and ask if they can get you anything else. Complete waste of money. We were in the bar area on tuesday night and it was completely dead.
Review Source:Very disappointed in Shea's. Management needs to seriously rethink their approach when it comes to many of this venue's shortcomings - not only cleanliness, quality and service, but proper business etiquette and respect for those they hire for entertainment. Would NOT recommend Shea's to Hartford area Yelpers.
Review Source:Shea's is a "training wheels" pub. Â Its where you go if you're not ready for a real pub that serves real food and stocks real bartenders. Â Therefore you get a very anonymous, underwhelming, and tedious feeling from your entire experience there.
I always likened Shea's to Pigs Eye Pub (in Hartford) only you'd have to take Pigs Eye, move it east of the river, start having halfassed food and drinks served by people who don't want to be there, somehow find a way to attract an even *more* unappealing clientele and decide to make up for every shortcoming by providing you with a beautiful view of a Kohl's store.
Last time I went, the bartender refused to open a tab for me and insisted she swipe my card for every overpriced drink I ordered. Talk about inconvenient! The place has zero personality, questionable hospitality, and a lovely second floor outdoor deck (which is a huge waste since you can't smoke up there anyway and the view? Â Again.. Kohl's.)
Bottom line:
Shea's is the place you get dragged to by people who are too lazy to find good bars. (...or in my case a place you drag other people to when you all want a beer and a good laugh at something truly futile)
After reading the other reviews I had expected to get sick from eating here. Â The place was empty in the afternoon when we arrived with a few tables out on the patio. Â The one waitress was working the whole building, which little time for service or water refills. Â The food arrived and was lukewarm, my wife sent her chili back to be heated up. Â My meatloaf sandwich was ok.
The food was just average with nothing memorable about it. Â
The floors and tables although had yet to be cleaned from last nights mess.
I doubt I will go back here. Â The food adventure continues
I'm torn between "meh" and "okay." Since yelp's "okay" is actually "A-OK!," I think I'll go with "meh."
We stopped by here while our laundry was going just down the road. The parking lot was huge and empty at noon on a Monday, but they were open, and we were hungry; so we decided to be adventuresome and give it a try.
We were promptly greeted by a friendly gentleman whom I presume is either the manager or owner. He seated us in the dining room and got us water while we looked at the menus. He turned on all five of their large televisions and then told us our server would be right with us.
Our server came out in a black cami with heaving cleavage bulging from the top. When she walked, it looked like it might bounce on out and give us a show. I would say it was a little more biker than Hooters but not even close to as sleezy as Guido's. Â Cleavage aside, she was very friendly, personable, and helpful. She allowed me to sample the chili before ordering it (it can be so different everywhere, and I like mine a certain way that doesn't involve tons of chili powder nor cinnamon).
The chili was actually pretty tasty, so I ordered a bowl. My husband asked if they make the meatloaf there, and the server said that they do; so he ordered the meatloaf sandwich.
His sandwich and fries came out steamy hot. My chili, on the other hand, was only slightly warmer than the room. When our server came to check on us (a little too long of a wait here, but she had a bunch of tables out on the back forty outside), I had her heat it up for me. So, basically, I got to watch my husband eat, and then when he was finished, he got to watch me eat.
We read the horror stories on yelps during our waits, and we were actually afraid it was going to be awful, but it really wasn't that bad. While they don't have a gluten-free menu, nor many "healthy" options, it's not that kind of place. It's a bar with a little bit better than a bar food menu. There is salmon on the menu, but I wasn't feeling quite brave enough to try it. The chili worked out just fine.
The place had just opened minutes before we got there (hence him turning on the tvs just then), yet it was pretty dirty. It's a shame about being grimey, because the building is actually pretty cool, and it could be turned into something super gorgeous. But, again, it isn't that kind of place. Â I imagine that if I was into racing and beer, I'd probably think it was A-OK! However, to me, this place was just a "meh." Â If friends wanted to go here, I wouldn't turn them down. I could eat another bowl of chili. Â For $4.95, I really couldn't complain (well, once they heated it up, that is).
I'm really reviewing it more as a hang-out spot that happens to have food, not as a restaurant. Â Kind of like "Rookies" in Cromwell, though that's now under the name Chicago Sam's. Â In that category, this place is A-OK. Â Fun with a friend or two, and great with a big group as well.
- VENUE -
The outdoor area is huge, and there's more covered seating due to the recent expansion. Â As a result, it can fit a ton of people without making everyone squeeze by and bump into each other. Â The indoor bar area is pretty damn nice too, but it'll be empty if the weather is warm/clear. Â They have plenty of TV's and a pretty good beer selection. Â They also tend to have live entertainment of DJ's pretty often, which is nice.
- FOOD -
The reviews of this place are a little too harsh - I've had some mediocre things here, but I've had some good things as well. Â Nothing will blow your mind, but there are some reasonably tasty bar food options.
- OTHER NEGATIVES -
On popular (i.e. warm summer) nights you may have to wait in a long line to get in, as the large outdoor area makes it a nice warm weather gathering spot, despite being more or less in a Kohl's parking lot.
I hate the plastic pint glasses they give you when you're outside. Â With how much free stuff bars usually get, I don't understand why they can't just use GLASS pint glasses. Â Sure, they break, and then you have to clean them up, but the plastic ones just feel so cheap. Â Save those for your back-yard gatherings or on-campus bars. Â They just scream "We know we're not really a restaurant." Â
- OTHER POSITIVES -
Parking here is great. Â No matter how crowded it gets, you can always find a spot away from everyone if you're a religious "door-ding avoider."
It's pretty close to the highway, so it's easy to get to for out-of-towners as well. Â That's not something that can be said for a lot of Manchester businesses, because, let's be honest, driving through Manchester should be avoided whenever possible. Â The town's poor road layout, excessive number of traffic lights, low speed limits, high population, and idiot drivers make it an incredibly irritating place to navigate.
Food is better than it used to be. The man who talked about getting sick from clamcakes in a review, I don't think you have the right place or the right food because they have never had clam cakes. The restaurant and bar are dead in the winter but something out of a busy vacation spot in the summer. If you're from around there be ready to see people you went to high school with. The patio is the place to be. Giant outside patio and two bars.
Review Source:Been here twice, that was enough.Ordered clamcakes, later that night I was sick as a dog,(food poisoning) Wrote an email to management they blew it off,ok so maybe it was me.But after reading some of the other reviews about how unsanitary the kitchen is I can see why I got sick. You couldnt drag me back to this dump!!!
Review Source:I actually enjoy the Winners Lounge at Shea's. Leave all the drunks alone in the bar. The only downfall is, while betting on  horses & dogs, the waitress doesn't 'man the post' that often, so I have to go looking for her, which is downtime from me watching the races going on!
I've also witnessed waitress' givin free drinks to friends they know. Bartendars too busy flirting with women sitting at the bar and not for a paying customer waiting on a simple drink. It gets annoying!
Even some of the customers are rude too..We were standing at the bar one night, and this dude said to us "My drink, my seat"...wtf???? It's definately like a college bar there..and I've been there done that..so let the kiddies have their fun and start a fight with anohter patron if they wish.
Manchester does have MCC, but it's not a college town. A shame they have a college 18-21 Â year old punks there ruining it for everyone else!
Not Family Friendly. I came here with my wife and two kiddos after Gymnastics class on a wed night. We sat in the sports bar side as it was very slow. The host came over and said since they have gambling there now, no one under 21 was aloud. She asked us to sit on the restaurant side, which was totally empty. My gut feeling was its time to leave right now, but we decided to sit on that side. Â
we ordered some drinks for us and the kids and checked out the menu.  when the waitress came back we ordered some wings and 1 grilled cheese kids meal. when she came back with the food she had 2 grilled cheese and the wings.  she placed the grilled cheese  and wings down, the kids started digging in, and we mentioned we only ordered 1 grilled cheese, No problem she said, we will take that off the bill, And BOOM right out from under my daughters hands!! WTF!!
well after we get my daughter calmed down and everyone is ok we began to eat. I will say the Wings here are good. They are nice and large and tasty.
well we were waiting for her to come back, but that didnt happen for a while. we were done with that food still waiting to put in our dinner order..............................still waiting........................ok, she comes by we order some more food, I ordered a Bowl of chili that she said she gets all the time when she eats there. The kitchen staff brought out the food and the CUP of chili, so I asked about the Bowl, He said No Problem, I will just bring you another cup. seemed like a fair compromise. The chili was as tasty as it comes from a can. Alos it was the same temp as comming out of a can.
anyways.... we wait some more.... the kitchen guy comes back out (He proceeds to change the football show we were watching to something more Kid friendly?? Um thanks but my kiddo is a big Football Fan, can you change it back...Remember, we are the only people sitting on the restaurant side!!)and tells us the waitress had forgotten about us, and is now busy on the otherside of the bar. He said he would buy us desert and we got one desert for the kids...............waiting......waiting....
Finally we get the check, and guess what? we have been Charged for 2 grilled cheese!! WTH!! The waitress steals the grilled cheese out from my daughter and then charges us for it!!
Never Eat here again. (restaurant side)
This place is kind of a shame. Â The bar area is huge, and it's definitely a sports bar. Â But there are not enough TVs, and the ones they have are definitely not large enough for you with or without a group of your friends to come in and take in a game, unless you sit directly at the bar or within a 1 table radius. Â I would never come here to watch football or recommend anyone come here to watch football, unless they wanted to sit at the bar.
The food was boring, ordinary, predictable and at times disappointing. Â Big menu that seemed to have nothing on it? Â I had a small Caesar salad, which was fine followed by some buffalo wings and sweet potato fries. Â Nothing exciting, nothing exceptionally good. Â My husband ordered the mac & cheese, and he didn't finish it because it was boring and bland. Â
I'm not a beer drinker, but they seemed to have an okay beer menu. Â But there was no cocktail menu at all. Â I enjoy mixed drinks, but I have a hard time with coming up with ideas on what to order. Â So, with a full bar, I wonder why they don't take the time to come up with some signature cocktails for a menu? Â Also, their wine selection really sucked. Â There were like five kinds of standard wines on there. Â Boring!
I was there on a Sunday afternoon/evening and the bar picked up as evening approached, but it didn't seem like anyone was really dining there. Â It seemed like all of the business was in the bar. Â Which is a shame because I think they have a lot of decent space. Â The decor isn't overly outdated, but once again it's boring and plain.
Service was good. Â Our waiter was friendly and accommodating. Â
My friends said good things about their outdoor patio, but it's pretty much in Kohl's parking lot? Â And I was there in February, so I have not sat out there.
I certainly am not in a hurry to go back there, though if someone I was dining with insisted on going, I would return. Â But it's such a shame that they have so much space and such mediocre food and set ups.
Meat market. The food is an afterthought. This place is legendary amongst local cooks and chefs for their poor sanitation and more-is-better approach to food. It's a goddamn tragedy that fast food and chain restaurants have dulled our palates to the point that a place can be this busy while making so little effort.
Review Source:If you're going out to eat, don't go here. This is purely for bar people and that sort of atmosphere. They have a great patio, but goodness, their food is NOT worth the effort -- Seriously. If you want to sit in the dinning room and have a nice meal, do NOT go here. If you want a nice bar with people having fun, do go here.
Review Source:I've gotta agree with Diane. The service is SO hit and miss. I've had FANTASTIC service, and, on the flipside, the ABSOLUTE worst experience due to service.
NOTE TO OWNER:
No one cares how hot the bartender is when they CAN'T GET A DRINK OR ORDER FOOD.
I'm all about putting a hottie behind the bar, but, after she drives your customers away, what do you have?
(also, dear owner: I WILL REMOVE this review if I see improvement)
I've been here a bunch. I've had some good and bad experiences here.
Useless bar staff: Â these people are so busy socializing with each other that they never bother to wait on you. Sorry, I blame the lack of management. Â If your deal is to hire hot college students, adult supervision needs to be part of the plan.
Food quality: I've had 2 nightmare meals here now. Â I found the button of an aerosol can in my mouth - Â part of the tuna salad sandwich. Â God only knows what the can was for - Â I'm realllly hoping it was Pam and not Raid:)
The 2nd horror show was the Shepherds pie. Â I thought at first they may have been 'stretching' the serving with mashed potatoes in the meat - but it turns out it was raw flour. Â It literally must have been a 1/2 cup in my portion. Â What were they thinking!!????
I'm a sellout for the patio though.
Shea's is a decent joint for drinks but in the 40 or so times i've been there in the past year, there are some criticisms as with anything else. First of all the pub fare is not their strong point. I've tried a few different things and they work if you're hungry but nothing you would flock there or head there to get. They have a great outdoor patio which is enclosed in cooler weather and holds somewhere near 300 people if I remember right. It's a great place to meet friends for drinks and/or check out the eye candy. Live music is there often and is pretty average, usually an acoustic/electric guitar indoors and a lighter buffettesque fare on the patio but it differs. I think Shea's has an awesome venue and excellent potential, but i think a call to Gordon Ramsay or the like would work wonders on this place. Find a few good dishes you do very well and stick with them. Don't think because the place is packed it will always be.
