I heard on the radio that Daddy Yankee was coming to San Diego. It took me back to my "down for whatever" days and I actually still enjoy his music so I decided to say adios to my usual worrywart self and just buy a ticket and go with the flow. I had never heard of The Show Palace but had read some terrible things about it on another website. If nothing else, I was going to have terrific material for my Yelp review.

    Where do I start?

First of all, this place smells like chicken. As soon as I got out of the car, I smelled nothing but chicken.

The fact that I was wearing clothes was enough to label me as a prude. I might as well have been wearing a burqa because I was clearly overdressed! There were some HOOCHIES up in this place! Sexy? I think not.

There was a LONG ASS line to get in. I decided to be nosy and moved up to the front to see what the hold up was: they were doing pat downs! Classy. The only decent people here were the cute couple in front of us which we made friends with while waiting in line. The girls behind us were a different story. They could not have been older than 17 and they were talking about how spent the day shopping for "the perfect outfit" and looking for a babysitter for their kid(s). When I finally got to the front, I handed my ID to the police officer and said, "Please tell me I'm not the oldest person here...". He just laughed. That should have been a sign.

I finally made my way in and headed straight for the bar. I needed a drink after all that madness and I wanted to take advantage of my 21+ privileges! Surprisingly, I wasn't the oldest one here, which was probably a bad thing. Who knew that so many middle aged people listened to Daddy Yankee. The drinks were somewhat pricey for this type of establishment and extremely weak; they definitely water down the alcohol.

I decided that if I was going to be among all this craziness, I was at least going to be in the front. This sounded like a good idea on paper but after being there for 3 hours, I don't know what annoyed me more...

    1) The girl behind me that kept smacking me in the face with her Puerto Rican flag.

    2) The young, hormone driven couple in front of me that smelled of terrible B.O.

    3) Or the group of grenades that were freaking random guys. Girls: If you're going to wear a dress that short, put on some underwear... and get a wax.

I'm sure I contracted an infectious disease just by being in this place! I had to pee so badly but I was afraid to walk into the bathroom. My friend ended up cracking and using the facilities and she said there were broken beer bottles and used tampons on the floor. Excuse me while I vomit.

Onto the REAL reason for my visit...

Daddy Yankee's performance was actually REALLY good! He definitely made the most of this low budget venue. He had amazing dancers and the show was full of energy and the sound was pretty decent, but damn this place is trashy.
