Damn good. Before anything else though, soul food in Indy is overpriced. It's always more expensive than anything else. $13 for a meal with two sides. Having said that, they give you a boat load of food -- enough to split so it makes more sense.

Under same ownership (after the matriarch retired), with a new name. It use to be Smokin' Good Soul Food.

What sold me on eating here was the cabbage. I. Love. Cabbage. In all forms, and this was the first time I had it from the hands of soul food. It was super rich aka super buttery with some pepper. The mac n' cheese was a classic homemade bake. And the BBQ sauce was good, the chicken was decent (the dark meat was better than the white).

The service was fun and good. And they have a crazy breakfast menu.

This place is a cafeteria style soul food joint.  It is in the heart of soul food territory right on 38th street and Rural and sits in a small strip mall directly across from a Taco Bell.

I went here for lunch with my father. We were not that hungry so we decided to split a meal. The meal came with a main dish (which consisted of 2 servings), 2 sides and cornbread. I was torn between ordering the pork chops and the pig's feet so I asked the server if instead of 2 pork chops I could have 1 chop and 1 pig's foot which she did. As for sides we opted for the greens and the fried okra. The food was quite delicious but nothing was mind blowing.

The reason this place gets 4 stars instead of 3 was the service. After we got or food and started eating she brought us out the second pork chop anyway.  Then she brought out the second pigs foot.  Then she brought us out more side dishes and cornbread.  We kept telling her that we were full but the food entourage kept coming.

If you want pretty good soul food and service second to none this is the place to go. It was also a speedy place to eat if you are in a rush. As with all soul food places in Indy that I have been it is no the cheapest food you can eat but if you get the service I received I would consider it very affordable.
