Coming from the Berlin location which always had excellent service, I was expecting the Plainville location to be at least equal. Â Everytime I go to Sliders now I have a shoddy experience...be it unfriendly waitresses or cold food, I'm dismayed. Â The greatest dismay was when they stopped showing UFC ppv, which I question cause the place was always packed.
Recently I had a waitress "presume" she was getting the 50 cents of the tab, she brought only $6 not the $6.50 that should have been the change, no I'm not "that cheap" I was going to use the two quarters for a parking meter at my next errand and I had 3 singles ready for her tip. Â It simply irked me because we had already received overcooked potato skins, flat beverages, and only 11 wings which were mostly dumstick portions (8 drums, 3 wingettes) when you used to get 6 and 6 in a dozen. Â
Sliders owners better wake up when there is a new Buffalo Wild Wings opening 5 minutes around the corner and BWW has UFC...
I love Hot Wings. Unfortunately the greater Hartford area doesn't have many high profile options. Sliders was one of the few that I hadn't yet tried so when family came in from Upstate New York (HOME of the Buffalo Wing) and there was a Syracuse B-Ball game on TV I thought, "Perfect, We'll go to Sliders for dinner!" I'm letting you know this because I think it's fair to say that the group was pretty hyped up for our meal.
Sadly Sliders didn't deliver a transcendent wing experience. We ordered three flavors: Hot Buffalo, Mango Habanero and Honey Chipotle. The Hot Buffalo was actually pretty tasty (not as spicy as their menu "warns") but the wings came out COLD! It's hard to enjoy cold Hot Wings... The Mango Habanero was flavorless but they came out hot and crispy; what a tease. The Honey Chipotle was actually pretty good but a little too sweet for me and without spicy wings to balance them out got old fast.
I am willing to give Sliders another shot, the atmosphere is solid for a sports bar and they have a pretty decent beer selection. I can imagine the wings being as good as I thought they were going to be on the drive over so I'll give it one more try...
Great small place I thought this was just a single location but they are opening up a couple of locations. The wings here are good just as good as any other place or buffalo wild wings. the only thing i didn't check was that if they actually sold sliders. but they defiantly sell mostly wings and it was delicious
Review Source:Typical bar food but the wings are fantastic. They've won awards for their wings and you'll see why. The garlic parmesan wings are amazing, and their hot wings get really hot. They rank them by temperature so you know exactly what you're getting.
At every Sliders, the parking is TERRIBLE. Remember that on a weekend and first Saturday of the month (UFC fight night)
You will never get a break on drinks and the old bartender with the died curly blond hair is the biggest bitch in the County!--she is rude and a notorious buzz kill--if i were the onwner i would fire her--go to Central Cafe where the bartenders are young, hot! and friendly; the food is better and the drinks are cheaper; and it is four times bigger
Review Source:Sliders is convenient but best enjoyed when it's not busy. I'm a finicky wings eater. I only like flats and I like my wings really well done. When it's busy here there is no point in requesting the wings well done because they will still come back that questionable gelatinous texture that I hate. I have only eaten in once so most times I will just carry out and throw my order in the toaster oven, then I'm happy. They are tasty, just often not cooked how I like them.
Review Source:I had a great time watching the game at Sliders. Which is saying something. I am not a sports bar kind of person and I was worried this joint would be full of mouth-breathing dudes being all, "Duhh, that play was gay. Duhuhuhuh." But I was gleefully surprised that there was a minimal amount of idiocy, and the crowd was pretty balanced. Heck, mine wasn't even the only table with weirdos in it, and we didn't get any sideways looks. I was also stoked that even though the parking lot was completely full when we arrived, there were a good deal of open tables. I had to park my little car in the half snowbank/half parking space, but I have absolutely no problem with that.
Most folks were just there to have a good time watching the game with friends and a few frosty beverages. The beer list was short for a sports bar, but represented the basics and a few local microbrews. The beer list could definitely be improved with the addition of a good pilsner, Hefeweizen and non-corporate lager. Especially since this place is defined by wings and nothing goes better with wings than a whole mess of beers. Speaking of wings, I had the Hot Buffalo. They packed a good amount of heat, but were far from overpowering. I like spicy. If you don't, obviously you should not order them. You should instead order the Garlic Parmesan wings. My friends ordered them and they were outstanding. I wished I had ordered those, even though I love Buffalo and found my wings to be just lovely. The blue cheese that came with them was a little too thin for my liking, but big deal right.
The service was very attentive at first, less so after halftime. We could've handled a few more visits from our server, but we didn't feel completely neglected. Also, it was very busy, so I cut her a certain amount of slack. When she did come by, she was super nice and sincere, and she was working her buns off. I kind of teetered between giving them a 3 or a 4, but I dug the crowd and service a lot and that boosted them up. Plus there were a BILLION tvs, all the walls were covered in televisions. If someone is standing in front of their table, you just have to move your eyeballs ever so slightly, probably don't even have to turn your neck at all. Great place to chill with your friends and watch the game without having to deal with d-bags.
Sliders is your typical loud sports bar, with its one real attraction being their wings. There is a good amount of varieties, but their specialties are the various levels of buffalo, with my personal favorite being their buffalo bleu cheese flavor.
In recent years, Sliders has made a few choices that were not too popular with the regulars who frequent there - getting rid of beer pitchers, and no longer showing UFC pay per views. These decisions may have coincided with their recent change from a strictly 21+ sports bar to a more family-oriented one.
You will pay similarly to what you would at just about any other sports bar, so if you do not happen to be a fan of wings, I would suggest somewhere that has a more robust non-wings menu, since Sliders is pretty lacking in their menu.
Overall, I would suggest Sliders if you are a fan of wings, because that is their calling card. If you could do without wings, I would suggest maybe going elsewhere to have some drinks and watch sports on TV, such as TD Homers.
Best wings in CT hands down. Â I can't find anything in NYC that even comes close. Â Candlelight in Scarsdale is the next best thing in the NYC metro area. Â Whether you get boneless garlic parm or bone-in hot, you'll love these wings. Â I always get a side of curly fries and order the chipotle bbq wing sauce on the side to dip them in. Â Trust me, you can't go wrong. Â I make it a point to come here every time I visit my family.
Review Source:Took my kids there to watch the Celtics and have some wings. Â The waitress was very friendly and accommodating. Â The food was good, but not overly great. Â I ordered the mango habanero, and expected to have my breath taken away, but instead there was not much heat. Â Instead of the traditional chicken wings, I got the boneless and found them to be a mixture of broken pieces or small pieces.
My disappointed with the food stops there, because the chicken was delicious, and the sauce was good, and flavorful, just not as spicy as I would have liked.
The atmosphere was loud, but nothing that we could not handle, after all the Celtics and Heat were on one television and the Kings vs Devils on the other.
It was rather pricey ($8.00 for a kids meal?) Â But again nothing that I couldn't live with.
This makes me sad because I didn't want to downgrade my favorite wings place but I have to do it. The price increase and the "can't smile" not so friendly staff just makes me want to avoid this place. Mind you I love grabbing wings from this place anytime I have to pick up wings. I don't mind dinning in either, I've had attentive service when the staff is young. My last visit will most likely be my last visit for a long time until I somehow get coaxed into returning.
I went in to pick up an order of wings for someone last week. I made my order at least 20 plus minutes prior to arriving. It was Happy Hour, the place is busy yes, yes, I understand staff can be overwhelmed. I stand under the "take out" order sign and wait to be helped. There were a few staff members in and out of the bar station. The one lady (curly blond hair) who does help me was rather rude. I give her my name and she appeared so annoyed, was my name too complicated for her or was she unhappy with the size of my order? I can't give you an answer, but I know regardless I'm a paying customer!
She searches for my order and appears to be in great distress. After much searching she finds a bag under "Shawn" and not "Sanh". She remarks in a rather unpleasant tone "It's under Shawn". Does she expect me to respond to that? Is it my fault I have a unique name? Should I order under the name Sasha next time? Really I wasn't bothered by that comment it was her overall "what do you want" attitude. Â Mind you, there wasn't a HUGE pile of take-out orders. At the moment my tiny bag of 12 wings was the ONLY order visible to me.
I'm aware everyone is entitled to a bad day but if you work in customer service, when you wake up on the wrong side of the bed you better turn around and change that attitude into a positive one prior to coming to work. Think of all of the customers who will have experience her negativity, especially during happy hour.
This is a great little sports bar EXCEPT when the bartender is the fat, old, bitchy, blond with curly hair who is fuc!in! rude!...I have been there 3 or 4 times when she is behind the bar and you could not have a worse person to serve you..she acts like your doing her a favor when buying drinks and has a big mouth that i would like to jam with a big old hot chicken wing...DO YOURSELF A FAVOR-go to Central Cafe in Plainville where the food is better, the waitresses are young and friendly and the monitors are all HD
And--you will never-ever get a free shot or beer at Sliders in Plainville
This is a good sports bar with lots of TV's. I also really like that I can get chili with my sandwich rather than fries, and any time I get a sandwich I can get it on wheat. I'm a huge buffalo fan, and there sauces here run the gamut from glorified ketchup to melt your lips off, so I can't complain. It is walking distance from work and a good place to catch a game after work during happy hour.
Review Source:My friends and I really enjoy this particular Slider's. Â Mostly because it is a lot less packed on football days, and they play pretty much EVERY game. Â They even let you change what game is playing on what TV if you wish. Â This way, my friends and I can watch New England, Â and my other buddy can watch his 49'ers if they are on, right next to each other! Â
The food is really good, we had many wing varieties and saw nothing wrong with much of them. Â The wait staff is very helpful and friendly. Â There are also pool tables and foosball here, which is great for half-time.
There is definitely more of a "small bar" feel here compared to the Plantsville one. Â But this may not be a bad thing depending on what atmosphere you seek.
This is the original Sliders - it is a bar, not a restaurant so smaller than the other two (Southington, Berlin). Â Contrary to what others say there IS waitstaff after 5pm M-F. Â If you go during the week the bartenders do a great job to get your drinks & food to you quickly.. Â Everthing is very good, portions are the same as the other locations.. Â The bartenders are actually a LOT nicer then the ones in Southington.. Â The beer is nice and cold in cold glasses - you just don't get that anymore..
So if you want a good, comfortable bar this is the place in Plainville.. Â Enjoy some Insane wings or try the Hall of Famer burger (if you dare!!!)
The original wing destination for the area. The mild and hot buffalo flavors are the best options. I consider their wings as the classic buffalo flavor. The measure which all others are based on. The other flavors are good, but nothing special. Best to stick to the basics here.
The other food options are typical for bar food, but nothing stands out.
The service has improved greatly over the last few years. When I used to order takeout a few years ago I would get a "what do you want?" attitude when I called, and when I would go in, the bartenders would barely acknowledge me and practically grunt when handing me my order. Now when you call, the bartenders are friendly and helpful, and when I get my order the employees actually smile and don't look like they are stuck in prison.
The bar itself is a little cramped in the front rooms with more space in back near the pool tables. Lots of TV's for watching the games. Basic sports bar atmosphere.
The main complaint I would have is that you can wait a long time to get your order once and a while. On a few occasions I've ordered and was given a 15-20 minute time expectation, and then i would show up 25 minutes after I called and would wait another 20 minutes my order of 2 dozen wings to be brought out from the kitchen. It's also fun trying to explain to my wife who was waiting in the car for almost a half an hour why it took so long to get our order.
45 to 50 minutes for wings is way to long, even if they are great.
Been here twice, maybe three times tops. It's a typical sports bar, but very small. I hear their wings are good but I haven't tried them. And there are no servers, so you gotta be the self-starter type if you want anything. It gets really crowded, so if you're claustrophobic, I wouldn't recommend it. It's not a bad place, and if you're just getting together to watch a game with some friends and have a couple beers, it's a good destination. Plenty of parking.
Review Source:This is an ok place- so small and crowded, the Southington one is a lot bigger and better. Â There is no wait staff like in Southington, and you have to wait at the bar to order food and drinks, which takes forever.
The last time we went we ordered boneless wings- which supposed to be six strips. Â We got 5 little niblets of chicken, smaller than a McNugget. Â We complained and said that is what they serve. Â They then come back to us and told us that they found one extra in the fryer and gave it to us. Â How ridiculous. Â The food here is also always cold.
Southington always has hot food and gives you 6 big wings, so if you want to try a Sliders, try Southington and Berlin, not Plainville.
