Used to be my favorite bar/bartender in town. I was bummed when I last went in there and found out he skipped town... This new guy though... Jesus...
Can't blame him for the entire drink menu being gone. Not his fault. Here's what I will blame him for:
So I order a martini from the tattooed guy, tell him to just dust the ice with the vermouth, basically throw it in the shaker and throw it back out. He is incredibly confused and asks me what I mean, I tell him "just go light on the vermouth."
He tries to explain to me that their martini generally is strong on the vermouth. I tell him "Right, well, I am telling you to go light on the vermouth, this is how I am ordering my drink."
He nods and goes ahead and makes it, not before getting into a huge discussion about Air Jordans and how much he spends a year on them for his and his family, etc, etc. Finally gets around to making my drink hands it over to me, and its totally not what I ordered. I'm disgusted with it and the service, toss back the martini and ask for my bill. He tells me $16 (I had ordered another previously from the other bartender with whom I had absolutely no problem), I give him a twenty. He immediately rings it up and does not give me change back. At this point I don't even want to argue with him or cause a confrontation over my four dollars which I definitely did not want to leave him as a tip because he was terrible.
Everything is gone from this place. Everything. No knowledge, no heart, no soul.
R.I.P. The best kept secret in Corvallis.
My friends and I used to go to the Snug Bar as a treat. However, the bartender is gone. So now is the menu. Thus now is the Bar. Well, it's still there. But the new bartender is frantically trying to keep up, the ambiance is totally different, and while the new 'tender is trying his best, he just isn't our old mixologist.
R.I.P. Snug Bar
Went to the Snugbar with my wife and friends last night and we had a wonderful time. Â It reminded me of a chic undergound European bar, with a variety of seating, low lighting, post-modern decorations, and techno-ish music playing in the background. Â The dim sum was good (not great), but the drinks were delicious! Â The bartender did an amazing job and provided excellent customer service. Â One of us ordered a "Blazing Saddle," and we were delightfully surprised when the bartender lit the alcohol on fire to warm it up and poured the drink back and forth between two cups, which provided quite the fire show! Â Fun night!
Review Source:This is easily the best bar in Corvallis.
1. The Bartender is knowledgeable and passionate about his craft.
2. Craft. This is a talented bartender who not only knows his alcohol, but has come up with some crazy (crazy delicious) drink combinations. Watching his performance is wonderful.
3. The ambiance is wonderful. It is intimate, small (which can kind of be a downer, but such is life), dimly lit. The music is good.
4. The clientele is not a bunch of loud, fratty "chin strap douche bags". These are people you can have a conversation with over a delicious drink without the word "bro" being tossed around like beads at mardi gras.
I will definitely be back and will tell all my friends. Thanks for bringing a nice place to Corvalis.
Snugbar is a fantastic concept and very welcome in Corvallis. The first time we went there we found out favorite seats, and we try to go early enough to grab them each time now. Congrats to Chris and the Magenta team for making a great spot for cocktails. While I tend to lean toward classic drink recipes done well, it's great to see people stretching out with their mixology and creating drinks that are thoughtful and also taste good. Well done folks...
Review Source:I will start this review off by saying that i am a person that is not easily impressed.
Snug is the best idea ever.
An intimate, well appointed bar for people who want a WELL mixed drink as opposed to a well drink. As soon as you enter you feel cozy........which is my guess on why they named it snug. It feels like you know a secret, like you've stepped into a speakeasy. Couches, bar stools, comfy chairs, & good music. You can order dim sum from upstairs, without the service that upstairs provides.
Let's talk about chris, the bartender. He's what i expect from a bartender as a grown up out for a few well made cocktails. He's well dressed, articulate, can tell a great story, and most importantly; loves what he does. He comes up with great combinations, makes his own tinctures, & i am sure that everywhere he goes, he finds inspiration for flavor combos. Passion people! It's the key to everything.
I can only hope it doesn't get TOO popular so i can still find a space to sit and relax.
