Ok, so as far as Thai food goes, 3 stars. I added an extra star because they have a sweet "Thai room" you can take your shoes off and enter for eating. It adds to the experience and I really enjoyed the visual appeal of it all, also it's a lot quieter in there. They have some very tasty curry but I think they put a little too much coconut milk in it for my liking ( Or my stomach's liking) but it was very good. I've been here several times and the dishes are hit and miss. Give it a few shots before you write the review, I'm glad I did because my initial response would have been a 3 star because the cashew pork stir fry was awful.

I love this place for it's willingness to be a live venue. If not for live music, Davis would be the poorer for it. Much respect!

Home of my favorite drink in town: FROZEN CHERRY LEMONADE. It's the perfect amount of tart and sweet in a cup! If you're a lemonade fan, you'll have to try this drink. That aside, most of their other blended drinks are pretty good as well, it's hard to go wrong with one of their specialty drinks unless you're getting the blue drink (forgot the full name) or thaibreaker.

Food wise, I have only ever ordered their pad kee mao (wide noodle) and chicken satay. I've had this in several occasions, and it is always delicious.

I also really enjoy coming here for Tuesday night trivia. The questions are always really hard, but a really fun challenge. It's really organized, which I can't say for some of the other trivia nights around town.

My only complaint is that the bartenders are almost always kind of rude and have an attitude each time I order a drink. I understand that there's sometimes a TON of customers and it can be difficult to make everyone happy, but would it really kill you guys to smile a little?

HAVE AGAIN: crispy calamari salad, pad Thai with steamed tofu, spinach & beef with peanut sauce, chicken satay, massaman curry with chicken were all excellent.
NOT HAVE AGAIN: the cashew stir fry with pork was bland, not tasty and uninteresting.

I love this place for the bar and for the restaurant.  The food is amazing and definitely some of the best thai food ive had.  The decor in the restaurant is very cool, the outdoor heated patio is nice and they have a private room that you can reserve for larger groups.  I went to a birthday in the private room; everyone enjoyed sitting on the floor cushions, and it was a very intimate atmosphere. The bar is separate from the restaurant and its a great place to go during a night out.  I prefer sitting on the outdoor patio which is a little less crowded.  The drinks are great.

Complete garbage. The pad thai was plain and had no flavor. Chicken was rubbery and noodles were overcooked and had the consistency of mush. Indoor seating is crowded and dirty looking. Inside smells strongly like fish. Will not be back.

Meh....it's was okay but you can definitely get better thai food (especially in davis) and more importantly, you can probably find a restaurant that isn't basically pitch black inside. I had to sit next to the window in order to remotely see my lunch and the person across the table. So this place is only great if you have an ugly date and you want an excuse not to see him/ her :)

    Great Thai option in Davis!

Excellent quality food + service. Massaman curry was delightful.

Also, major props for hosting live bands... even though I know nothing about the type of bands playing here, Davis is lacking in the small music venue area.

I think I tried most of the dishes at Sophia Thai Kitchen. From the menu, some of my favorites are curry stir fry with fried tofu and Thai iced tea. Also, spinach with peanut sauce, fried calamaris, and jungle curry!!!

I only go here when someone else chooses it as the place to eat, and maybe for a little Davis nostalgia (old-school), especially if you get to sit in the room with the pillow seats (no shoes). It's definitely not my favorite Thai restaurant in town food-wise, but if I do go, I at least have a few go-to menu items. My top pick is hands-down the Red Curry Stir Fry with fried tofu lunch special with the bottomless Thai iced tea. The laap, spinach with peanut sauce, jungle curry, and calamari salad are all okay. It may be the oldest Thai establishment in Davis that's still around, and the bar is definitely a whole other story (what with trivia night and drinks like the Red Devil), but for the cuisine I stick with two stars.

Our go-to Thai restaurant in Davis.

I can't speak to the authenticity of the food, but we are always happy with our meals at Sophias. The beer selection is decent and the appetizers are great. We like the satay, heavenly beef, calamari and tod mun. The curry portions are generous and consistent - I like that I always know what I am going to get.

It can get rather crowded, especially on weekends, but we try to go during off times and the service is attentive and friendly 99% of the time.

I haven't had the food here, but the birthday wheel is great to get a free drink! I went here for a friends birthday to get him a free drink, and he ended up winning a shot of whiskey, which he said was great! The vibe at the bar looked really chill, and was a good atmosphere. The bar tender did come of as kinda anti-social, but made decent drinks.

I like the location and the outdoor areas at Sophias - and the fact that they do live music. I do not, however, like their cocktails very much... Good beer and Scotch though.

Sophia's is a nice Thai restaurant. They have a special private dining room that you can request, where you sit around the table on the floor, but it's a little awkward when everyone walks by and looks in on you. The food is very good and moderately priced, and same with the drinks. They have a separate bar area if you just want to go for the drinks, and they often have trivia going on if that's your thing. Go on your birthday for a spin of the birthday wheel for a free drink.

I've never had the food here, so be warned that my rating is not based on that.

Went here for some drinks. Place was pretty busy by the time we got there. They carded patrons at the entrance. Bar area was pretty crowded, but the bartenders are good about keeping things on track. They got drinks out stylishly and quickly. Pretty darn good stuff.

The place is quite dark inside. They had live music/DJs outside. Overall cool place to be. Would recommend!

I can't believe I've been here three times and each time got the same rude waitress.  The first time she didn't let me use my stroller as a high chair and wanted me to fold it up or put it outside as if there was no space for it inside. That's fine, except the hostess said it was fine for me to use the stroller and then she came in and gave us contradicting information. The second time a waitress told me to use an unused room to change my baby's diaper and the rude waitress came in to say I can't use it again reversing instruction from a different employee (understandable but she didn't have to be rude about it) and the third time she charged 18% gratuity on 4 adults and three babies. The babies shouldn't count in the 6 person party gratuity rule! As we were leaving she threw a fit because the babies dropped a few pieces of food. She huffed and threw the plates harshly into the bin.

Aside from the terrible service the food has also been pretty bad. I am a Thai food lover and have been to many places. Each time I come I try something different and have always been disappointed. I'm not sure why all my Davis friends insist we go here instead of Thai Canteen next door.

Came here earlier with my house mate. Saturday night dinner, 20 minute wait - not a biggie, since we waited at the bar w/ drinks (soo convenient.)

the portions here are HUGE. we ordered 2 entrees (90% of the menu is $10) and barely ate half (took the rest home, of course!). The food was reaaaallly good.  I ordered eggplant stir-fry with chicken (asked them to mince it), and house mate ordered chicken fried rice (had cilantro, peppers, and chives in there).

Can't wait to come back! But we've decided that next time we're ordering just 1 entree for the both of us, with maybe an appetizer. Can't wait to finish those leftovers tomorrow! so good.

I came here with friends at around 8 on a Saturday night and just managed to nab a table by the entrance. A line quickly formed outside so be sure to account for it being crowded. We ordered the Spicy Eggplant Stir Fry and the Pad Thai. To our surprise the pad thai was really spicy. I've never had spicy pad thai before and while I'm a huge fan of all things spicy my friends didn't enjoy it as much, especially since we didn't expect it to be so hot. The eggplant was good though.

This is my favorite bar in Davis.  Not too stuffy, music isn't psychotically loud so I can talk to  my friends and I'm always surprised by how cheap the drinks are after living in SF and NYC.  Whenever my friends want to go out I always push to go to Sophia's because it feels non-sketchy and so relaxed.

Came here for drinks on Saturday night.. was definitely surprised to see that it wasn't packed but there were just the right amount of people. The drinks were good and the bartender was very nice/quick.

Came here Sunday afternoon for lunch and the food was ummm less than stellar..... to say the least. I ordered the drunken noodles (a must for me at Thai restaurants) and I was definitely not impressed. My friends weren't impressed with their food either. Free thai teas for those who downloaded that weird map app... thai tea wasn't good either lol. But I'll ignore that because it was free.

Overall, good drinks (stars for the bar) but pooooorr food.

Solid bar with fun cocktails but the beer selection is lacking. Most of the seating in the restaurant is in the covered patio area but the heaters make it bearable even in the worst of Davis winters. Most plates will set you back $10 unless you want seafood (add $4), and tax is included in all prices. I wish that I would have come here more often in college- this is pretty good Thai food for the price and they are always willing to split checks for large parties.

Sophia's has solid food, but I don't think anything on the menu will overly impress you.

When asked by your waiter, you will probably say "everything is good."

The Thai iced tea is bottomless, and they do a good job refilling your drink when it is low. However, if you are like me, you will probably want to down 5 glasses of the stuff which will result in a stomach ache.

Best thing I've had on the menu is the Bosses favorite curry.

I'm actually really disappointed that the worst I could give this place is 1 star. A 0 or -10 stars would be appropriate here.

Worst customer service I've ever heard of. I ordered 3 drinks, the first 2 were the wrong drink. The third was finally the right drink and put right into my hand, but the bartender felt it was necessary to come back and harass/swear at me for drinking the drink he served me because we "stole" someone else's drink.

I let him slide giving me 2/3 incorrect drinks, but I guess I gave him too much credit when I accepted the 1 drink he served me correctly.

The bottom line is, I will pay top dollar for a high level of customer service. I literally have no problem paying more for the same product, if the staff treats me with respect and makes me feel welcome. The exact opposite happened here.

I'm sorry, but if you serve me a drink and realize 5 minutes later that you made a mistake, apologize, let me subsidize your mistake, and move on. I did "Wayne" a favor by paying for his poor job performance and he still felt it was necessary to try and berate me and accuse me of stealing a drink I had no problem paying twice for.

Luckily his unprofessional attitude didn't end at his first showing of god awful customer service. He was nice enough to come back several times (AFTER I paid the amount for an extra drink) and continue to try and pick a fight with me.

Whatever you do, don't contribute to "Wayne's" (black hair/black beard/overall douchey face) pocket by tipping him to live in his moms basement and poorly serve drinks/berate innocent customers.

Sophies is a cool little place with outdoor seating and hard wood benches that make your behind sore!  The place has a full bar but the best drink is the Thai Ice Tea with FREE refills!  Portion size is on the smallish side and prices aren't cheap.  The Jungle Curry and Sweet n Sour Cod are our favs here.  Good food, cool atomosphere and refills on thai iced tea make this place a winner.

This is an update, solely on the bar scene.

For a Davis bar, it's nice.  A bit small, yes, but c'mon it's Davis.  If you want a real bar scene, you hop over the causeway.  That said, it's got a nice atmosphere and doesn't get crazy busy (at least it didn't when I went, though that might be because it was finals week) except for trivia night.

On the food side, this place has gone down hill, in my opinion.  It used to be good when I lived in Davis, but I think the array, the portions, and the flavor has left the kitchen, which makes me a sad panda.

Although it's small, this place rarely ever gets too crowded which is nice (at least when I go).  It's dimly lit and has a very cool atmosphere.

To be honest, I never ate at the restaurant I only go here for the bar.   After getting some of the the infamous strong drinks that Davis has to offer (ahem wiki ahem), my friends and I head on over to Sofias for the MOULIN ROUGE (Which makes this place worth 5 stars in itself).  Whenever I want to lose my honorary bro badge, I get this drink.  It's probably the epitome of girly drink goodness.

They have a pretty great happy hour with some great deals on tasty food!

Thursday-Saturday night I believe they usually have live music on their patio on the bar side, but there's usually a cover after 9pm of a few dollars.

Heavenly Beef- eat it at happy hour, seriously.

It seems like every time a place closes, a new Thai restaurant is bound to take over. Downtown Davis is overpopulated with Thai cuisine. Even though I have been to the other Thai places, I always find myself back here because of its atmosphere and great customer service.

I like how they give you a choice of either sitting inside or outside. Most of the time I like to sit outside, even during the winter time. I know that it can get so teeth-clattering cold in Davis, but fear not because their heating lamps are enough to keep you toasty warm. And if you're unsatisfied with your seating arrangement, you can tell them immediately because they come by very often to make sure everything's alright. Even on a busy night, our server was able to keep our cups full. (Note: If you come here during dinnertime, especially during the weekends, and you have a large party, you might have to wait for about 45 minutes and they don't take reservations. So, plan accordingly!)

The food here used to be better and while it doesn't exactly knock me off my socks anymore, it doesn't fail me either. I've tried a lot of dishes on their menu and the ones I order over and over again are: Bamee, Pad Kee Mao and Pad Thai (I know, the Pad Thai sounds so typical, but I can't help how much I love that dish!).

    HAPPY. HOUR.

I love their happy hour! The mango mojito is seriously one of the best mojitos I've ever had :) it's so delicious and tasty and amazing and gets me all happy :P I also like that I can order a $3 hoegaarden. It's my fave beer, and it's so refreshing to drink that on their porch :)

As far as their appetizers are concerned, the only thing that's worth the money is the fried calamari. Their fried calamari is tasty, and the portion size is pretty big! You can easily share one order with a bunch of people.

I've never been here for the restaurant part of the service, just the happy hour :P I'm not an alcoholic, I swear! I just really REALLY like their mojitos.

I feel myself liking this place less and less. I pretty much came here every week for like 10 weeks.

Initially, I loved everything. The lovely outdoor seating, the hearty portions of curry and rice and most importantly BOTTOMLESS THAI TEA!!

However, as time kept going I grew tired of the food. It's still decent but it doesn't have the wow factor it initially had.

They don't serve dessert here and don't  bother with the duck. It's pretty shriveled up, dry and extremely salty. Not worth the extra money.

Service is great and prices are decent so 4 stars.

I have had some good moments here, but I have been disappointed several other times.

People seem to love the atmosphere here, and I can't disagree with them, but when it comes to food I feel like they need to step their game up. The curries here are pretty liquidy. I usually get a curry and a noodle dish when I go out to Thai places to try and get variety, but I felt like I ordered two of the same dishes. I ordered the yellow curry and the drunken noodles with duck.

Both had a large assortment of bell peppers but that really over powered the other tastes. The duck that I received in the noodles was tough and was not work the few extra dollars.

I want to like this place, but when it comes to food, I would rather go down the street or to the other 5 thai restaurants within walking distance. The night life here might be great, but the food did not win me over.

Have been here multiple times and I have never been disappointed.

Waiters have been very vegetarian / vegan conscious when ordering -- even gave suggestions for items that were veggie / vegan and dishes that could be made that way by not having them made with fish sauce, etc.

The Thai Room is the best we've found in Davis - a place to lose your shoes and sit on cushions on the floor - I enjoy it because it's more casual and yet more intimate as I can sit next to my SO rather than across from him.

Thai iced teas are good...can even be made with alcohol if you ask. The bar gives you the ability to have whatever drink you may desire while dining.

Overall, I was recommended to go to Sophia's by a Davis alum years before I ever moved to Davis and I must say it doesn't disappoint though there are plenty of good options for Thai food in Davis.

Before Thai Canteen came along and stole my wallet's heart, Sophia's was my favorite Thai place to frequent. I love their little sit down room in the corner. It makes for an interesting dining experience, albeit slightly awkward because you're staring at peoples' feet during dinner. Unlimited thai iced teas always keep me coming back, it's always just the right amount of sweet for me. They're a little more expensive compared to Thai Canteen down the street but their food is delicious nonetheless. I like getting their curries with steamed tofu. It comes with lots of veggies and makes me feel a little healthier than having other greasy food.

The interior is nice and dimmed, but there's also covered patio seating with heaters for when it gets chilly. The servers are attentive and friendly, offering good recommendations when asked. Their bar next door is also a welcoming environment, with lots of events (trivia nights and live bands) and has friendly staff as well. It might be hard to catch the bartenders' attentions on busy nights, but they have lots of tasty "girly drinks," dimmed lighting and seats/tables in secluded corners so that you can catch up with friends after a long week.

Known for free refills on their Thai Iced Tea.

Food, service and price is all average.

Spin the wheel on your 21st birthday for a free drink!  I did it on my 21st birthday and ended up getting a shot that is named inappropriately!

They face a lot of other Thai restaurant competitors around the neighborhood so they need to up their game on the flavor and uniqueness of their food.

I would go as far as saying this is the best Thai restaurant in Davis. I've been there probably about 10+ times and they've been consistently good every time. I've taken my family, friends, boyfriend, and my boyfriend's parents to Sophia's and they have all enjoyed the food and the service. The unlimited Thai Iced Tea is probably one of the main selling points.

My favorite dishes are the Thai Noodle Soup and Tom Kha. They both have GREAT flavor and the portions are big enough that I always end up with leftovers. My boyfriend's favorite is the Pad Thai, which he gets every time, so they must be doing SOMETHING right. The little room with the cushions to sit on is always fun too.

Overall, I love the ambiance, service and the FOOD. I would definitely recommend this place as a must for a first time Davis visitor.

I love Thai food! But to me, Sophia's Thai is not all too authentic, nevertheless, the food are good. Sophia's Thai was like a second home to me when I still lived in Davis. I love the atmosphere and service. I made a pit stop there for lunch on my way to Sac the other day.

OMG, how I miss the food and drinks there. I recommend the spicy eggplant stirfry and the green curry noodle soup. I also really like the pepper mushroom appetizer. And if you have love Thai iced tea, you should order it because it's bottomless!

The ambiance is very cool. It's very dim inside but they also offer outdoor seating if you prefer more lighting. I love sitting outside on a sunny warm day while sipping on their cocktails. Oh yes, I recommend their Lychee Cooler cocktail and their blended Mango one. Yum!

Ok. I heard this place was good so I went here for dinner one day. The line was super long. We waited about 45 mins for a table of 2. After settling down and i grab my bottomless thai tea, we have to wait another 45 mins for our food to come out. I ordered Thai style fried rice and I am pretty sure I can cook better fried rice that the guy who cook my plate of fried rice. The rice is super wet and there were close to no ingredient other than rice and egg. It taste more like baby food than fried rice to me.
They also seems to put A LOT of salt in their food. I had to chug 7-8 cups of thai tea to quench my thirst. The Thai Tea is super sweet. I feel like I am drinking sugared tea.

This place is horrible. Highly not recommended anyone going here.

Oh yeah, i forgot to mention the baby food was ~12 bucks.

There's a reason why people talk: to exchange information. And for some reason, I decided to ignore what I have heard about Sophia's Thai Kitchen. Bad mistake.

I mean, I was probably feeling adventurous. Four years in Davis, and I've never tried the food from this restaurant. The reviews I've heard from my friends have been mixed. Why not try it out, right? I might as well.

I'm sitting here, writing this review as the overpowering odors of stale fish sauce linger in my mouth. I went out to lunch with my friends, and uhhh.. the lunch special was pretty disappointing.

I got the pepper stir-fry dish with chicken. Stir-fry? That name gave me a different idea, as opposed to the dish I received. The salad came with a salted dressing on it. Fine. It was just salad. I moved on to the pepper stir-fry, littered with unevenly chopped bits of snow peas and slices of japalenos. I attribute most of the flavor to the jalapenos. It made my mouth burn with spice, so it covered most of the overpowering fish sauce taste from the dish. But once that was gone, I was left with overly salted meat and vegetable pieces. I turned to my rice to compensate for the taste, but alas, rice can only do so much.

Service was meh. Nothing too outstanding for lunch. And the food.. I think I'll stay away from this place. I really, really should have known. There was a definite reason why I never found this place enticing for a meal.

    Never again.

In my review of the Sophia's bar I gave them four fairly well-deserved stars based primarily on their fun ambiance, upbeat service, and the fact that my wife likes their mixed drinks and I like the fact that they carry Bundaberg ginger ale.

Their restaurant however, which is adjacent to the bar but in a separate building with a separate entrance, is pretty disappointing. The service is still pretty nice, but its mostly downhill from there.

They have a shoeless room where you sit on the floor while you eat, which I'm a fan of, but the room is very, very small, the tables are so narrow that you're group is required to sit only on one side of them (so you can't face each other), and (despite the fact that it is shoeless) the floor is not grass mat, but rather composite bamboo (read: this tiny hard surfaced room gets really loud really fast).  Toss in that their curries are a little bland for my taste (not "mild," "bland") and their rice and pad thai are both so starchy that they glom to themselves in a way that is both unappetizing to serve and to eat, and you've got a loud and disappointing meal.

You will see me sipping Bundaberg in their bar with The Wife, but you won't see us giving their restaurant another shot. Too bad, so sad.

This is a below average Thai place and definitely not authentic. I'm a noodle-o-holic so I normally get pad see ew or pad thai. What a disappointment! The noodles were bleh and didn't have a lot of taste to it. It's always busy here so I thought that with the amount of customers they have it would be good. THE most sweetest thing about Sofia's is their FREE refill policy on Thai iced tea!

This is a good place to go with a group of friends just for the atmosphere. However, if you're going here on a first date, steer clear and go to another Thai restaurant because it's loud, packed, and cramped so you will be shouting just to hear one another.
