Soundpony is one of my favorite bars and one of the best venues in Tulsa! There's always something going on at The Pony, whether it's Tuesday night pub trivia, fantastic local music, or just a great atmosphere for hanging out with friends. Also, it is THE place to be during the annual Tulsa Tough bike races!
Review Source:Best. Bar. Ever. The bartenders are super friendly, drinks are very reasonably priced, great patio, great energy. Never a cover and never a cover band.
If you've never been dont assume its just a hipster bar when you walk in. As long as you're "good people" the bartenders and regulars are happy to see you.
Jeeze o' petey is the bar fun.
It's such a great bar to meet some of Tulsa's finest locals. I don't know what it is, but it just feels like fun people congregate here at any given time. It's become a staple visit before (and sometimes after) Cain's Ballroom shows.
Bartenders are laid back and friendly and serve some of the most reasonably priced drinks I've ever seen. The atmosphere is dim and cool with bicycle memorabilia around. An area at the front of the bar space is perfect for live DJ events, bands, and dance parties. A patio is in the back with a couple tables with seating.
AND GUESS WHAT?! A PAC-MAN machine awaits. And, I am your biggest challenger. Last I checked, I have the high score. I will gladly accept any challenger - just be prepared to cry.
Maybe the coolest bar I've ever been to. I went on a Monday night while exploring a city I'd never been to. That city was Cleveland so obviously I was seriously lost. Soundpony is weird, wild, has incredible music, and could care less what the world thinks of it, in a good way. It's not for everybody, and I wouldn't say it's worth a drive from Cleveland, but of you're in the Tulsa area and love quirky dives, go.
Review Source:Just in town for the night doing a show at Cain's. I can't believe I'd never been here before. Not everyday you see a bicycle bar with cracked carbon frames lining the walls not to mention an awesome selection of beers and if you're a smoker LUCKY STRIKES! This is the spot. I wish it was in Chicago! Strongly back this place..
Review Source:This is the best bar in Tulsa for new music, live trivia, eclectic crowd, and relaxed environment. I love how it changes depending on the time of day or that you go or even the day of the week. Â Places like this make Tulsa a city worth living in.
The next time you get a chance, take your bike out of the garage, pedal yourself down to the Soundpony, and spend some time visiting with some of the best people in town.
From the limited night life scene that I've scoped out in Tulsa, the area up around Cain's seems to be where the DJ-listening set hangs out. Cool enough. What I have seen is encouraging, however limited the offerings are. Soundpony was adequately divey with just the right amount of roughness around the edges. The crowd seemed cool enough. I can tell something is percolating in Tulsa; just like what happened in Austin 20+ years ago. I just hope the momentum keeps up. Tunes were good here, but the spinning became inconsistent. And please get rid of the hot dog hamster wheel.
Review Source:Hands down the only bar you should rage at when visiting or residing in Tulsa, OK. Everything you need from hot dogs to hugs and quite possibly the most chill ownership/staff on the planet.
I don't feel the need to mention the fact that they have a kick-ass beer selection and live music on the daily because it's a bar -- named Soundpony.
Check out Trivia Tuesdays with Jack.
And support the Soundpony Rain-Bros Fútbol Club.
Cheers.
I really love this place. It has a reputation for only being for hipsters but people of all walks show up. The staff is awesome, including the owners. The bottled and canned beer selection is great (suggest the $3 16oz Hollandia) Try coming on a Tuesday night for Trivia, my favorite time for sure.
only bad thing I can say is the lack of seating inside, but they cant really make the bar any roomier.
The Soundpony is one of Tulsa's best ecclectic bars. Â There is usually a good DJ or live band bringing energy to a unique group of friendly people. Â The drinks are cheap and they have some great top-shelf options for bar that may first seem to be like a bit of a dive. Â Whether you're a local that wants to grab a few drinks or from out of town looking to experience a taste of our fair city, the Soundpony is always a good choice.
Review Source:Where everyone knows your name...
I first attended this bar 4 years ago and met one of the owners, Mike. Leaving town and not returning to Soundpony for over a month, I walked in and was greeted by name weeks later. This is the initial reason I started frequenting this bar.
To the point, if you want to go somewhere that is non-smoking (but has a rad patio out back with benches and such), open minded, great atmosphere, live tunes, good records, fun bartenders, hot dogs, cheap drinks, hefty shots...I could keep going...then Soundpony is the place for you.
Out of towners:
Triva w/ Jack on Tuesday is good times. Be there around 10pm.
You are probably already downtown because you came to the BOK Center or Cain's Ballroom for concerts, so just walk on over, its close.
Dear Mike & Josh... Thanks for taking a chance and winning my love!
Happy hour special is a hot dog and a glass of high life for $1. Need I say more? Nice draft selection of microbrews, interesting crowd, friendly bartenders, and good music.
As previously mentioned, this place is a cycling-themed dive bar, which adds more the charm. Their sign on the way out says something like "Ride a bike, save gas money, buy more beer." I agree.
Hipster music, hipster kids, and hipster drinks. Bicycles. If that sounds good, the pony is great. If you're afraid of pretentious bands, boys in tight jeans, and girls with ironic glasses, the pony is not for you. As packed as it gets on the weekends, plenty of people think the pony is for them.
Most of the time I only come in really early or really late when it's not quite as busy. But the prices are great, the beer selection is respectable and it really knows its niche.
I am visiting from Austin,tx and we always visit soundpony with my good friends who live here. It is an interesting setup with bicycle decor all over the place. Â It is a small facility and it gets crowded very easily. Â The music here has always been great. Â It is always something different, which is nice, Â Bathrooms leave a lot to be desired. Â Two working toilets would have been great. Â
I want to really like this place but it leaves me yearning for the mohawk, jackalope, beauty bar,and opals of Austin.
Great bar! Lots of hipsters and interesting people to see and talk to. Â The decor is decktabulous with the best music selection in town. Â Its really got an individual, organic feel unlike all bars in south Tulsa. Â If Anthony Bordain came to town no doubt this would be the bar he would visit. Â Beer specials are common along with a respectable beer list. Â Love it!
Review Source:I'm a big fan of this place. Â Cheap beer, most of it over "3.2" Â Ecclectic music, both live and recorded. Â A great place for the gutterpunk kids, blue collar machine shop workers, the trendy-chasers, and downtown suits to all sit elbow to elbow and enjoy a beer. Â
Great decor, entertaining bar staff, and cheap drinks. Â
Love the old school video games and Tuesday Night Trivia.
A great bar! Â I can usually be found a few doors down in the Crystal Pistol, but occasionally I venture in to the Soundpony and I have never been let down. Â One Friday during Oktoberfest, I stopped in to drink and dance a bit and the DJ was on it. Â A good mix of electronica and old school rap (I never thought I'd be dancing to NWA) as well as contemporary songs. Â The drinks are good and the crowd is lively and fun. Â I will continue to stop by and partake in the action.
Review Source:This is the BEST BAR in Tulsa, if not the United States. I've done my fair share of traveling throughout the country, and can honestly say that this is my favorite bar.
I guess it could be that I love bikes, but more than that it is that I love cheap beer, good music, rad bartenders (zany) and hot dogs. This bar has those. Also, it has a patio out back. Oh yea... you can also buy 40oz bottles of Colt 45 here.
How cool is that?
Soundpony forever.
The Soundpony is my favorite bar in Tulsa.  The drinks are relatively cheap, all the bartenders are friendly, and the environment is great.  The décor is themed on bike racing, so there are all kinds of bikes hanging from the ceiling, racing numbers and race posters plastered on the walls, and even a chair made out of bike parts!
Generally, there are cool people and something happening at the Pony. Â Oftentimes that's live music, which is usually pretty danceable and loud, or occasionally it's a bike ride through town. Â Also, every Tuesday at 9:30 is trivia night, which is always a good time.
Basically, if you are looking for a bar where you want to become a regular and you are in your 20s-30s, you should definitely put the Pony on your list of places to check out.
Oh, and don't forget to bring an extra buck for a Pony Dog!
