This bar has a classy atmosphere to it. A door guy is wearing dress pants and a west, bartenders in ties, and leather couches in the back are definitely a nice touch.
They have a full bar and a great selection of beer (especially drafts), they even have my favorite Boddingtons that only two other places in Columbia have.
I enjoyed my experience with them a lot. It was a little bit crowded that night but my friends took a couch in the back so it was all cool!
I used to go here when I was in college...I had just transferred from the University of Miami, and was used to a different environment...so Speakeasy was a good "transition bar" from the city night life to 5 points.
This was back when Pour House was still 5 points diner and Minglewood. (By the way, 5 points diner had burgers that continue to be some of the best burgers I've ever eaten. Ever!) I can still go here and not feel "too old" when I go back! I love that it's a place that only certain people go to. It's definitely a "regulars" bar. You're not going to get the underage let's-shove-30-two-dollar-rum-and-cokes-down-our-Âthroats crowd which was, and continues to be, very appealing to me.
The drinks are more expensive than other places in 5 points, but you get a drink MADE RIGHT and in a proper glass with a garnish. The bartenders also make great suggestions. I like a bar that I can walk into and ask what they recommend, and they right away run off to make me something. Great beer selection as well!
Young professionals and the young music community frequent here. I love the live jazz as well as the leather couches. Great to have different conversation areas. The only downside to this is if it ever gets fuller, it ends up being kind of a waiting game for seating.
Its not really a speakeasy in the traditional sense, but it is a very cool spot. Â Open late, all drinks, no food, and plenty of atmosphere. Â You won't find the typical "grocery store" selection of beer and wine at this place. Â I had the St. Peter's Porter.....mmm, mmmmm, mmmmmm! Â I like this place but it is a little on the "just out of college frat boy" side.
