Love The Spigot...a great local dive bar on the Hartford / West Hartford line. Phenomenal draft beer selection and even a better bottle selection. Unpretentious place with a great jukebox.  When friends visit out of town I always try to work in a visit to The Spigot....we don't have many Dive Bars in this area.  Cash only so don't forget your duckets.

If you're a hipster who rolled into West Hartford Center and walked into a bar and then had a panic attack thinking you had somehow teleported to the Jersey Shore, take a deep breath and relax. Get back into your car and drive less than two miles down the road and find the Spigot. You may look at the building and be confused as to whether or not it's a bar - but it is, and a mighty fine one at that.

Not only does The Spigot always have some decent drafts but they also have a selection of bottled craft beers that has the potential to blow your mind. It takes up an entire wall and has everything from New England local brews to specialty ales you can't even find in some liquor stores. Everything is fairly priced including their pitchers.

It may have a "dive bar" feel, but I wouldn't call it a dive. It's clean and well-maintained. There's two dartboards, a good amount of tables for sitting, and they allow you to bring your own food which is clutch because who isn't excited about a Tupperware of snacks after housing a few beers?

In addition to beers they also have a full bar. When I brought my sister from out of town they made her a margarita. She said it was good but I totally judged her for ordering it. Speaking as someone who isn't into the ritz and glitz of West Hartford's bar scene I highly recommend the Spigot. It's closer than Hartford bars and on the WeHa border - it's a much safer section of town.

From the outside it looks like a misplaced red barn. The Spigot is a good 'ol dive bar with a wholesome feel. The inside reminds me of an outgrown basement in the suburbs where we'd idle away precious hours playing Mario Kart 64 and Rock Band 360 surrounded by crayon masterpiece-covered walls. On Spigot's walls hang dart boards, black and white photos, and vintage baseball player headshots. The bathroom is very clean, the beers are cheap and plentiful. The jukebox is my favorite. Crowds vary. Youngsters congregate around the darts. Find venerable middle-agers parked at the counter.

Haven't been inside Spigot for years. Perhaps when I am middle-aged and grey at the temples, Spigot will still be around for those of us left to grab a cold draft and a bag of hot nuts amidst a backdrop reminiscent of our childhood basement.

Just recently went to the spigot for a birthday celebration and I am a huge fan. It's a dive, but a glorious dive that focuses on its craft of serving booze and that's it. That's right people, you won't find any food here, but you will find tons of beer from all around the world. And it's cheap...go to their fridges and pick up $3 craft beers. Yup, $3. That will leave you with enough cash to order a pizza...right to the bar. How glorious is that? Yup, the Spigot is BYOF...bring, or in our case, get your own food delivered right to the bar. The scene is super casual, lots of locals, very laid back. There are dart boards and a Juke Box. Just keep in mind that its cash only. Love it.

I'm 42 and have lived in the greater Hartford area for nearly all of my life.  I've been to the Spigot (Spee-jsho) as we call it....twice.  My very fun friends (and one fellow Yelper) took me out during March Madness for some darts at the Spigot.  Actually, I didn't play darts myself but watching was riveting, nah, not really.

Here's what I liked about the place:  it's pretty clean for a dive bar.  I've been to many, dusty, skeevy dive bars but they seem to take pride in this one and give it a little swiffering when needed.  Also, they have pitchers of Guinness for $15.  A pitcher poured 4 pints (sweet!).  Everyone busses their own table of bottles and such AND you can bring in food from outside.  Lastly, the jukebox has the fine musical stylings of Richard Cheese.  Don't know him?  Check him out.....better yet, play one of his tunes on a romping Friday night at the Spigot.  It'll make people happy.

This may well be my ultimate dive bar. The following lists the reasons why (in order of importance):

    1) Excellent craft beer selection. Try Back East Brewery's Porter-- you won't regret it.
    2) CHEAP craft beer. Under $4 (be still my heart)!
    3) BYO food. Seriously, is this heaven?
    4) Free dart boards.

What's better than cheap beers' near 75 selections.
3 Dart boards Free darts, plenty of tvs.
O yeah and bring your own food!
Place to come to spend less than 20 bucks and get your buzz on.

I love le Spigot. I came here more often years ago when Wings Over West Hartford was conveniently located across the street. We'd order wings, take 'em into Spig and drink beer and play darts. There's no better combination if you ask me.

Even though Wings moved to Park, The Spigot still lets  you bring food into the bar, which is pretty rad (as they don't serve up any pub grub). The beer selection is quite good with plenty of local choices (Hooker, Back East porter, Two Roads, etc) but the atmosphere is what I love most.

It's a bar. It's unpretentious, casual, comfortable and just about perfect. The ideal spot to meet up with friends over a beer. These are bartenders, not fancypants mixologists and I love 'em that way.

This place! Be still my heart. It is my absolute favorite come-as-you-are bar in the whole world. The selection of beer (in bottles) is really impressive. They even have several hard ciders to choose from, which is more my speed.

I can't imagine that anyone could come here and not feel totally comfortable. It's very unassuming, the crowd is super laid-back, and the bartenders are awesome. There's dart boards and a jukebox (so I can subject everyone to the 80s pop music I love to drink to) and a bunch of tvs if you're into the whole sports thing.

Keep in mind it's cash only! They have an ATM but sometimes it's out of commission, so I recommend coming prepared.

    Best Dive in Hartford.

The Spigot is a local dive bar with a varied selection of beers. Are there really beers from around the world as advertised? Ehh ..not really.. they had some variety but nothing I was impressed with. Then again, I'm used to NY bars that serve a ton of craft and international beers so maybe I've been spoiled. I was, however, impressed with the price. $3.50 for a draft beer on a Saturday night is absolutely unheard of! I like the laid back atmosphere and I'd probably swing by for a pint if I'm looking for a low-key Saturday night.

The Spigot is one of my favorite bars in the Hartford/West Hartford area.  Really great draft and bottle selection. Good specials including $3.50 drafts on Tuesday and $3.00 micro-brew and import bottles on Friday. The bar has lots of TVs, a jukebox, and a serious darts set up. Eclectic crowd including (but not limited to) sports fans, old men, and hipsters.

Only downside is that they don't accept credit cards (they have an ATM) and there are no windows.

This dive bar is pretty stellar.  They have darts, lots of tv's playing sports, juke box, huge bottle/can beer selection in 5 big coolers and a lot of beers on tap.  Best of all, they have drink specials every day of the week, from $11 import pitchers to $3.50 pints.

They also have a fairly good selection of spirits which they are all too happy to give you a very generous pour of for a even more generous price.  (3-4 fingers of makers mark neat for $6)

Last but not least, this bar is BYOF, bring your own food!!!  does it get better than that?  They know drinks, and that's what they stick with :)

So if you're feeling thirsty and don't have a lot of scratch, check this place out, but be sure to bring cash or ATM cards because they don't take charge.

The beer bottle selection is crazy! From all around the world. The bar section is small and not enough beer on tap and the place looks like a hole in the wall. Good for college kids to hang out. There are dart boards and other stuff.

Oh how I love the Spigot.  If you're looking for a dark dive bar, Spig is the place to be.  It's full of regulars, from townies to college kids to law students.  John, the manager (?), is friendly and gregarious, as is almost everyone else who works there.  Not only does the place have a surprisingly amazing variety of beer in bottles (look for deals - there's a different one every day of the week), but it's got a great selection on tap!  It's always exciting to see CT's Ten Penny or Hooker on draft!  One complaint is that, on a few occasions, I have gotten a beer that's flat, but the bartenders are happy to accommodate an exchange.  I don't recommend getting mixed drinks here, though - it's certainly a beer bar.

Other great things about this place are the juke box, the darts, and the plethora of TVs.  I mean, what else do you need to have a good, low key night in Hartford?  Don't expect any quality bar bites - or any food beyond chips and nuts - but patrons can bring in food from outside to enjoy while drinking a pitcher of PBR and playing a game of cricket.  Love the Spig!

Atmosphere: If I lived in Hartford this would be my hangout.  Great beer selection and just divey enough to keep the people I don't want to hang out with away.

Food:  don't think they have any.

The Spigot is the best bar in Connecticut.  Nowhere else can you find a craft beer selection to rival the best (no macrobrews on tap... and right now they have Dogfish Punkin for cheaper than anywhere) for $2 domestic draft nights and $10.50 pitcher nights.  Everything is an American Craft beer, with a good range of styles and selection.  You can't buy 4- or 6-packs of some of these beers for such a low price.

Don't go here for cocktails, or really for anything other than beer.  Show up to watch a sports game and you'll find hipsters, an adult softball team post-game, some people in fancy evening-wear, old folks, young folks, and everything in between.  Play darts, sit and chat, blast the jukebox or watch sports.

How is everything so cheap?  They own the building, they have one or two staff on at once, they don't take credit cards and they don't serve food.  While the latter might seem lame, it's part of the Spigot's appeal.  Consider it BYOF.  Bring in Wings or Subway from across the street, pick up chips and salsa, or even have Chinese or pizza delivered right to their door.

How's that joke go? I spent a year in Hartford one summer?

OK, that might be off, but I was a California guy by way of Oregon interning at The Hartford Courant during the hottest summer in 100 years and living on a street where 6-foot prostitutes propositioned me every night and a shot-up dead body greeted me the day I was moving.

So, to be succinct, I needed a good bar. Or two. The Spigot was one of them.

I'd stop in on a day off from the paper, and the bartenders came to understand that all I needed was a cold Sierra Nevada and a Giants game on the TV directly in front of me. They passed down some bar facts: It was once a speakeasy, the Whalers bar and the best place to see 1990s "Sportscenter" anchors throwing back a few.

For me, the Spigot was always a solid stop-in, even when I spent a week there one night.

Very cool locals' bar with a surprisingly extensive beer selection. Inexpensive dive, and the regular bartender was one of the most personable we've come across in a long time. As a former speakeasy, this place has a history of long being the neighborhood bar. Getting into the parking lot is a bit of a challenge.

so I have been reading some of the bad reviews on here and some of the people I guess really do not understand the concept of a dive bar which the spigot is. Locals students and cheap drinks with some TV's and a digital jukebox where you can pick your music if you pay a dollar... If you are looking for "sophisticated and cultured people" go to a lounge. but if you are looking to catch a game and drink cheap beer this is your spot...

Lots of bottled beer selections but, this place only takes cash.

It is what it is -- one of the closest neighborhood bars to West Hartford, a  very basic but competent place. I like it. The beer selection is good and they have a surprisingly large collection of whiskeys.  Some nights you can get a pitcher of imported beer for less that what WH's new Deli (Reubens) charges for a single sandwich.  Can you get a buzz from a sandwich?  No!

Its like drinking in your Dad's finished basement. Sports memorabilia everywhere. The drinks are very cheap (think $2 cans of Red Dog) and there are 3 dart boards on the wall. Tons of TVs to watch various sports. There is always a newspaper above the urinal to read, and that makes my day.

Ok, coming from a grad student's perspective, this isn't bad. The drinks are cheap, and when there's a game on or enough people there, it's a nice bar atmosphere. A bunch of us went there after concert and had a good time. Let me say again, drinks are cheap. They usually have a beer special too, and overall a good selection of booze. I'll be a fan (especially since it's within walking distance). Be careful of parking, some of these places like to tow cars (I found out from experience. nice.)

Calling it a dive is being nice.

I went here for my 21st bday the first time.  Has a big sign on the door saying "We ID" and they never carded me or the person I was with.  Now when I was 21 I did not look 21.

It was a dingy place, with drinks, thats about it.  If you wanna go watch sports and have a drink, this is a good place, but anything else you're better to go down the road a bit someplace else.

It's a dive for sure, but you can have alot of fun (and drinks) for very little money here.  Inside, you'll find tons of yankees memorabilia and wood panneled walls.  Beer, wine, mixed drinks and shots are all cheap.  Be sure to grab some warm peanuts and eat some free popcorn.  There's plenty of room to sit and grab a table and a few darts boards as well.  If you're looking for a place to sip an apple-tini while watching someone walk their dog, look elsewhere.

Law student clusterfuck.  They're everywhere.  You can not escape them.  The beer was cheap.  I don't like darts, but they're very popular.  The floors were nasty sticky.

A delightful rathole full of surly old retired firefighter types by day. At night full of beer swilling law students and folks who like to drink fine beer (most of it is in the bottle though). The tap has cold Labatts...certainly ideal for the hockey, which is in addition to many other sports shown on the multitude of tv's. The jukebox runs from the uberchump Timberlake to Isaac Hayes. No food here...but there is a mediocre wing joint across the street if your tastbuds get slightly dulled from the Spigot.

I don't think I would like this place unless I arrived drunk.  Doesn't strike me as a good bar to be sober in.  Lots of people on Thursdays, which is nice.

This place sort of sucks. You go here when you want to drink beer surrounded by uncultured losers (or law students), and watch other people play darts. Tragic.

Sticky floor, smoky room - where we used to go after class to get drunk.  Great darts.
