Probably the best spot in monterey park!
For those saying it's a shame that they are not open on sundays...
You're in luck, starting on the 28th they will start hosting afternoon events

CLOSES MONDAYS - According to Stephanie V! (thanks!)
Legit bar! New happy hour spot nearby home, scored! I know, I know... You are probably thinking what the....bar in Monterey Park? Let me get at cha!
From Silk bar to now Spirit House bar. This bar is still located at Lincoln Hotel at the roof. (or they say it's at the roof, it's really just on the side on the second story)
What I like so far? A very chilled spot to go to if you're a local. Happy hours from Monday-Friday 5:30-8pm. Oh yeah! $4 wells, selected craft beers and a few selected food on their happy hour paper. I wouldn't come here for the food, although their shepherd pie is pretty good to me.
Mixed crowd. This place does have a lounge kind of feeling. Indoors and patio seats. There's also high tables available for two people or booth tables for bigger parties. Bartenders and service are okay. So far, no complaining.
Tip: sit by the bar for quick service! Just saying ;)
Good for dancing: neh
Good for groups: yes
Attire: casual is all good!
I love this place. Â After moving to SGV last month, I try to come here as much as I can. Â I tried coming here yesterday but sadly they close on Sundays.......
I come here for the burgers, and the drafts. Â Always consistent with the fresh drafts, so many different IPA's and they give samples. Â
I don't really care for the hipsters, I just go there and enjoy the brews they have to offer. Â I love this place!
This is probably not a place I would drive far for. Â It's a dive bar for the locals. Â I have not tried the food yet. Â Overall, I usually suggest this place if someone wanted a private place for a birthday, event, or after party from an event in the local area because it usually does not get super pack (Although, it can for events) and there are plenty of seats outside and inside. Â The place looks nice with a big fire pit. Â There is not a consistent crowd. Â You wouldn't come here expecting to be a big club crowd or anything. Â That does not bother me, but it does create issues with the consistency of service because there were times where the place got super pack and my friends waited half an hour for drinks. Â The sound system could improve. Â The service is average. Â I like this local spot and the direction it is going towards, but the service has never been consistent here and the sound system needs to be upgraded. Â I live close by, so I would definitely drop by once in a while.
Review Source:I came here last night for the first time. I actually thought the place looked really nice, a nice hidden bar I didn't expect in Monterey Park. I'm rating this a 2 because of the women Asian bar tender. I asked her for a frozen daiquiri and she replied with "I don't have time to make it, can you order something else." They shouldn't have daiquiris on the menu if they are worried about time! My bf ordered a Stella on tap and it was flat! We brought it to her attention being that it was $7 and she said "order something else we are running low on Stella and that is why it's flat"! I'm sorry but I'm there to spend money on drinks and all she had was excuses! I would come here again but they should hire a new bar tender!!
Review Source:Bizarre location in a hotel who's physical location should be considered a part of mainland China. Were the owners deliberately trying to be ironic? Or plain suicidal? Despite that terrible decision, they've managed to put up an original and much needed bar offering in MPK. I went there with a friend, half as a joke, half with trepidation and was pleasantly surprised at the drink offerings and the fire pit outside. I'm not a craft beer guy (Anybody who's actually tasting their alcohol after the first drink, I don't trust) so that whole appeal is actually a slight detraction given the high price of those beers. My friend payed $11 for a Japanese bottled beer. I ordered a salad and Penang fries. The fries were way too greasy, and tasted of pure oil and the curry didn't add anything to that combo. And the salad they ran out of.
Despite those misgivings, it's just nice to have a halfway decent bar in MPK. The whole Alhambra main street scene is lmucho lame grande, so I'd much rather head here.
Food is the best part about this place and probably the only cool hangout in Monterey Park. Went here on a Friday night and from what I hear was a rare busy night. I would say about 50 people. There were 3 bartenders working and they need to be retrained. They could not handle the amount of people there. They pretty much wigged out. This how bad it got. The Asian girl bartender wigged out so bad she put ear plugs in both her ears. What bartender does that? My girl is a bartender and she can alot better than they can. I would say that is the weakest link of this place is the bartenders that worked that night. But like I said as for the food it is really unique and damn tasty. One of the best if not the best burgers I've ever had. Will I go back there to party? Nope! They need to be trained on that show bar rescue... But I will sure go back to eat!
Review Source:Interesting location for sure. Â It was a little hard to find since it's on the 2nd floor of the Lincoln Plaza Hotel just off of Garvey, but once we found it....it became our new spot. Â I started with a Dogfish 90 on tap and my wife had a Elderflower Martini (Vodka, St. Germain, Champagne and lime) and later a White Noise which she really enjoyed. Unfortunately, we went on a Friday during lent, so our menu choices were limited since we couldn't eat meat. DIDN'T MATTER ! Â Started off with a Sidney Salad (Taosted bread salad), Elote Tempura with grilled Shishito peppers and Tako Fries. Â If you have the munchies, the Fries were BOMB !! Â Marcos & Ashley (the bartenders) were awesome, David (the owner) was very involved and helped make our experience a great one. Â We were lucky enough to sit buy a regular, who I think was named Norman (or Norvin), who introduced us to a lot here. Â Looking forward to the Risotto and pan seared fish that they will be adding next week.
Thanks for the hospitality Spirit House, you just earned new customers !! Â
You don't seem to find Japanese craft beers everywhere, but this spot has some...ENJOY !!!!!
Worst service ever! Came here on a Saturday night. Friends tried to get drinks for over an hour, eventually gave up. Bartenders here are just awful. So slow paced and only takes orders from the same area. They don't go down the bar and take orders equally. There were only two bartenders and at one point, one of the bartenders just walks out to collect cups and then comes back and washes dishes. Everyone at the bar kinda looked at each other like, where the F is he going!? Wtf! There's a bar helper standing around for that! It's a full bar of customers, why would you walk out like that! Just tell your lazy bar keep to do it for you. Honestly, you get better service at a fully packed club in Hollywood. Our whole group ending up leaving and we went to jtown.
I read a lot of the reviews on here and the bartenders service issues seems to be a recurring problem.
I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND.
I came about a month ago. This place has potential... but they really need to change DJs or tell him to stop drinking on the job.
When I first walked in thru the patio I thought "This place looks like it's fun!". The crowd seemed cool. But the music killed it. The DJ kept playing the music really really loud. And no... I am not old. We'll.. kinda. 8^P I could even see the bartenders tripping cause it was too f**king loud. You can tell its loud when you can hear the speak rattle from it being blown out. Then he'd drop the volume really low. It was just weird. Sounded like it was his first time. He should stick to tape decks and maybe people will stay on the dance floor.
As for the beers... they had a good selection but... were out of almost half of what was on the menu. The service was par. I sometimes couldn't get anyones attention.
I think if they get a bit more organized, this place could be great! I'd definitely be a regular. Hopefully they see the potential as well.
I actually came back this past Saturday night for a birthday party and enjoyed a complete opposite experience from last time. Bar was busy but not completely packed from wall to wall. I was able to order drinks this time. Hooray!! I tried a brainless on peaches. Super refreshing and strong (10.5%). It was my first time trying it and it had a nice, golden yellow color with a taste that's almost like a peach champagne. Mildly bitter but not overpowering.
My guess is that it was just a special party that was going on last time. I'll try to come back on another random Saturday night to see what's really the norm here. For now it gets 4 stars for its local proximity and high-quality craft beers.
Tip: While the bar looks hip with its rooftop fire and live dj, the hotel itself is old and dingey. I'd avoid staying there.
I appreciate the fact that there is a decent bar in Monterey Park- especially one serving craft beer on tap! but it does not make up for their ridiculously horrible service. Or should I say lack thereof?
I came here for the first time months ago when they first opened and I remember the bartender wasted SO MUCH beer because he kept pouring too much head.... it made me sad to see sooo much beer go to waste. It was a ridiculous amount, otherwise I wouldn't bother mentioning it. Hopefully they've figured that out since. I had the opportunity to try their small selection of foods as well, but nothing left me too impressed. I remember it being really greasy.
Fast forward a few months... I dropped by with some friends on a Saturday night and this place was crazy packed. There was a DJ playing and the music was WAY too loud. Â In such a small space packed with people....it doesn't make sense to turn up the music that loud... we couldn't even hear each other talk without having to scream. It felt like a full-on club, not a bar. Â The sad part of this story is that we didn't even get to order our drinks! After waiting 15+ minutes around the bar, we deemed it hopeless! There were only 2 bartenders working on a busy saturday night. And with customers wasting the bartenders' time ordering sodas and jagger bombs and other drinks you can pour yourself at home... there was no way to get our order in. Mixed drinks were being served in tiny plastic cups too... totally confused about that. Am I in a shitty Hollywood club?
I suggest having more staff on hand- like a lot more, better system of serving customers (because the bartenders kept taking orders from people in the same spot instead of evenly spreading out their work), and lowering the volume.
If you want to come here for the beers or for a chill environment, don't come on weekend nights or definitely come earlier in the evening. However, if you're looking for the loud music and party environment, then yes... check this place out on a Saturday night. Weird to say.
This is a nice place to go to. Ambiance is easy on the eyes and a great drink selection. We got there a bit late and kitchen was already closed. This being said we walked in and were even greeted by the bar tenders. It took 40 minutes to get our drinks. Only reason we got our drinks because 25 minutes in we decided to leave in which the waitress noticed and wrote down our order on a napkin and passed it on to the bar tender in which our order was still not fulfilled for another 10 minutes. Bar tender final saw our order and finally told the waitress to ask the bar back to fill the order. The bar tenders only serviced one side of the bar and ignored everyone else. They have a good think going on but need much better service. They would have got a one star if it wasn't for the waitress being the only one doing her job.
Review Source:Came here on a Thursday evening. Â They have a full bar and craft beers. Â The lounge is on the second floor of the Lincoln Plaza hotel. Â They have an open terrace area with a large fire pit and plenty of room to lounge. Â Definitely a great place to bring friends and or a date. Â Apparently they have a live dj on Fridays.
They have a nice selection of scotch. Â I had a Hibiki scotch and my friend had a tasty Elderflower martini. Â
I will definitely come back.
What has happened to this place? Â The service has really gone downhill. Â
1) it seems the prices have gone up since the last time I've been here (about a year ago). Â For example the Hitachino Nest White costs $9 served in a snifter. Â I know Hitachino is an expensive beer, but you also have to understand that this is a dive at the top of the Lincoln Plaza hotel. Â Other items are standard price such as Jameson on the Rocks ($9).
2) Our pints were improperly poured. All of us received a partially filled pint glass, mine being the worse offender. My glass was 2/3 full. It's not THAT hard to pour a proper pint. I've never sent a beer back, but I was this close to doing so....and probably should have. See photo: http://www.yelp.com/biz_…
3) Again, the service was....strange. Â I won't call out any names, but it seemed that our server had a strange tendency to leave before he finishes taking our order. Â We had 7 people in our group and after every 2nd order, he would run off to get our drinks. Â So it basically takes him 3 round trips and 10 minutes to complete one full order. Â Here's an idea, get a pen and write down our orders so we don't need to wait on you every time you come around! Â FAIL.
The manager/owner came over to ask if we wanted to order food, but by that time, we just wanted to get the hell out of here. Â Funny how an improperly poured pint and strange service can sour our mood...but it did.
I honestly hate knocking a place like this because it's one of the only places in Monterey Park where you can get a decent craft beer.
2.5 (I'm rounding up to 3) stars for having good beers on draft. Â But honestly though, I'm not sure I would come back just because of the items I mentioned above. Â But still, give this place a try, you might have a different experience.
Wow, service here when Eduardo was here was super.
Got a chance to chat with him, felt like a local bar.
However, I couldn't say the same about the food.
It was totally opposite the last time I came here.
Food was great, service was crappy.
Until they can get it right both sides, I will be back!
It's a pit ... But the fire pit is cool.. Plus white people in Monterey park?! Lol I'm Chinese. Â I dont think there are very many lounge bars in the area.
It was on top of a divey old dirty looking Chinese hotel. Â Luckily if you drive to the top floor of the parking structure, they have a door off the garage.
BYOC ring your own crowd/company lol not very social there
Finally an L.A. lounge/bar in the San Gabriel Valley!
Located in the heart of Monterey Park, this hidden gem is located on the second floor of the Lincoln Plaza Hotel. If you park in the structure its all the way on the top for easy access to your car. From the lobby you can take the stairs to the 2nd floor and its off to your right as soon as you reach the top.
Ambiance: Just like a spot you'd see in L.A. but located in the San Gabriel Valley just off the Garfield exit. For those living in the San Gabriel Valley why drive all the way to Sunset/Hollywood when you can go here! The huge patio area has a view and lounge type seating with heat lamps to keep you warm and a fire pit in the middle that is actually elevated to sit around. Interior has a DJ booth and dance floor with a bar and comfortable seating for eating or drinking. All in all a very cool atmosphere and vibe!
Crowd: mid-late 20's on up so you wont find annoying drinkers who have zero class here.
Food: Reasonably priced and for $20 you and your date should be good for the night. We had the tacos which were pretty tasty and 2 types of fries. The Curry Fries was nicely cooked with meat and a meal in itself. We also tried the Tako fries which were 3x fried, light and flavorful! A must try!
Drinks: They had a wide variety of drinks and Japanese Craft Beer! They also have Saki! Â
Staff: Very friendly, helpful and accommodating!
Conclusion: A nice L.A. type lounge located in an area where asian cafes and karaoke bars usually dominate. If your looking to hangout with a bunch of your friends or looking for a place to take your date then this is your place! Â Whether enjoying the ambiance with a drink or enjoying the food, your Spirit will leave happy!
Gave this place a few tries in the past year. No matter what it's called now, the place is just always dead. Hoping the last visit would have been fun on a weekend night but nope--dead.
The drinks are expensively priced for a run down hotel in Monterey Park. The service is lackluster. You'd think bartenders and the staff would go the extra mile in a place that lacks customers on a weekend. Instead, they act as if they work at a posh and popular spot in the city.
Won't give it another chance, unfortunately. Really wanted a local spot to frequent. Guess it's back to drinking at home.
A bar in Monterey Park? Â I am a MPK native and I had no idea this place existed. Â Unfortunately, it wasn't the greatest. Â
The GOOD : The bar itself looks alright. Â There are lounge seats around the bar and a huge outside patio with seating as well as plenty of heat from lamps and a fire pit. Â Someone obviously paid a nice chunk of change to get the place looking decent, and I think they did a decent job. Â Unfortunately the bar is on the second floor of the lincoln plaza hotel which is an old run down hotel, the look of which no one has tried to update. Â
They have a decent beer list which is great. Â They have good craft beers as well as a list of japanese beers (not sure why). Â
The BAD: I went on a friday and it got moderately busy but not too crazy. Â The music was also really loud - too loud (kinda like a club as opposed to a lounge). Â The bar service was REALLY SLOW. Â I think they were having problems with their credit card swiper on their ipad and so that made getting a drink more difficult.
I give this place one star because I can't do any less.
I just got home from this place and it sucks! Â We decided to go here after my husbands birthday dinner becuase of the overall yelp reviews. Â
When we arrived a waitress came to take our order I think her name was Ashley however that may be her supervisors name. I pulled out my phone and showed her the picture of a shot from yelp which has a flame coming out of it. She proceeded to bring our drinks and laid out each of the nine shots we ordered and starting lighting each one. My cousin asked do we just drink it and she replied "uhum" as he picked up the shot glass to swallow the drink as the flame was still burning! He spilled some drink and the fire followed on the table and the waitress simply continued lighting the shots, there was a paper menu which also caught on fire and as another member of our party picked up the flaming shot glass she spilled it and her hand caught fire. Yes I know YIKES!!!
Her supervisor ran over and asked if everyone was ok and brought some ice for the burned hand. Â The waitress never apologized and said she assumed we knew how to drink the shot since we ordered it she actually sounded very mad about the whole incident. Â HELLO I showed it to you from my phone and I did not know the name, and even if I had previously ordered the drink her responsability should of been to instruct us how to drink it. Â THIS OPENS THE DOOR FOR A MAJOR LAWSUIT someone got hurt and her irresponsability could of caused a fire!
She never came back to our table and our drinks were ordered at the bar because she never came back. Â After some time she brings us the bill for $195 including a $33 tip. Â WHAT!!! Â When I told her I didn't feel she deserved the tip because she came to our table one time, her response was "it's policy, parties over 6 have gratuity included" Â She then replied "Just pay the bill" and I replied I don't feel you deserve the tip and she said "whatever" and stormed off.
The manager came over with a security guard and offered to remove the $33 gratuity. Â Even the manager was hesitant to apologize or even acknowlege they were wrong but whether it was to end it or cause she really agreed she apologized.
All said and done it was definitely an excperience not a good one and I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone! Â Any other place would have been extra attentive considering someone got hurt! Â This was a bad move on their part and it's not good for business. Â Maybe you can better train your wait staff on good customer service and how to not assume cause when you ASSume you end up making an ASS out of yourself.
On a side note the bartender was awesome!!
A bar on top of a hotel sounds pretty cool. Â Unfortunately this bar is on top of a super crappy hotel. Â But luckily its still a pretty cool bar nonetheless. Â
Sprit House has a cool atmosphere. Â The inside is modern and appears to be more like a lounge rather than a bar. Â They usually have a DJ spinning , and its got a nice outdoor area with a fire pit where you can overlook the Monterey Park skyline of Chinese restaurants. Â
The best thing about Spirit House is their beer selection! Â The bartenders are helpful if you're not familiar with the brews. Â Their pub-grub is also pretty decent. Â The Fried Lotus Roots is a great snack. Â Its almost like potato chips. Â Some other items on the menus are Asian fusions that sound pretty interesting. Â
To get here, pull into the hotel's parking structure, and make your way up. Â Once you're at the top, walk through the fire pit area and you'll see the entrance to the the Spirit House. Â
Since this place is still somewhat new under new ownership, its a little dead on certain nights. Â Its good and bad depending on what you're looking for. Â This is a great place to wind down or to catch up with friends. Â I hope that doesn't change too much once it gets more popular!
AIYA. I sooo wanted to like this place.
Maybe it was because it was an off night and they decided to train a new bartender, but service crept at a glacial pace despite the [admittedly swanky-looking] place being nigh empty. On top of that, the drinks were totally uninspiring for their price...like, actually. I could probably have made better drinks. And they didn't have St. Germain, and replaced it with Soho, which was very disappointing. A pity I didn't get to try any of their finger foods, which sound good in principle [like the drinks did], but I guess that'll have to wait until next time--assuming there is one.
WOMP WOMP.
I like this place, because of the fact that it's so chill! If you can't think of a place to go with your friends, and it's getting a little late, then I would recommend this place. You can just walk in, get a drink, grab a seat anywhere (inside or outside) and chill and chat with your friends. There's a small fire pit outside where you can sit by it and warm up, or you can sit inside or by the bar.
There is also a small dance floor there next to the bar, so you can dance if you feel like it. I think the drinks were pretty reasonable and good.
The only down side about this place is that it can get really slow if it's pretty busy. There weren't that many bartenders working on the night that I went, and the drinks took a lot longer than we anticipated. I would suggest to be patient, relax, and just enjoy this time with your friends while you wait for your drink. :)
I came here on a Tuesday night so I can't really knock them for the dead environment.. but I will knock them on the overly intoxicated and extremely obnoxious patron that kept butting into my conservation I was having with my gf. Â Like seriously bartender, yes it's your job to mix and serve alcoholic beverages to paying customers, but it's also your responsibility to cut someone off if they're that f*cked up. Â Allowing someone to get that obliterated off of alcohol is bad for business in so many ways, and it all comes down to the loss of patrons & money. Â
Anyways, one reason why I wanted to come try this place out was the picture of their elderflower martini someone posted on Yelp. Â Now, after the Yelp event at the Autry museum last year where they let us taste the St. Germain elderflower liqueur I have been on this quest to find bars that serve cocktails made from it. Â So when I saw that Spirit House Bar did I had to check it out. Â
Umm... find a new recipe that's all i can say. Â It was not bueno, I mean if it at least tasted pretty and sweet I wouldn't mind if it as much that it was IMO weak. Â (BTW this was my first drink, as well as my only.) Â And that dried up flower petal stuff you guys sprinkle over the drink, I give A for effort but D for the end result. Â It looked pretty, but the dry crunchiness of the petals did not work well, I'd suggest you guys soak the petals in something to soften them up. Â It was just an awkward drink overall. Â
My first experience here just wasn't positive and didn't leave me with the desire to come back, but I'm not going to rule out that possibility just yet.
Service...Service...Service....you have to work on service. I normally go here, but the last time I went clearly broke the camel's back. You know you're really in trouble when guest get up and leave on a Friday night to go to somewhere else.
I went there last night. Decent beer selection. The food easily stands on its too feet. However, the greatest flaw is that service needs work. If you have a bar that has less than 50 people at a time. There really is no need for one server and three bartenders. Management really needs to train their workers and learn to allocate their resources properly.
I had to wait 30 minutes for the waitress to come around to ask me if i needed another beer. My food order, never got in. She was nice, and I'm not really blaming her. It will always come down to who is steering the ship.
This bar does have the potential to be great.
Here's my suggestions:
1) Train your staff to float regularly among the guests. 30 minutes to wait for a beer is way too long.
2) Have a late night happy hour.
3) Instead of having an extra bartender, hire a really good bar back. It will pay off.
I'm willing to give this place another chance...but my star rating will remain this low until management really gets their game together.
Unsuspectingly located on the second floor of Lincoln Hotel, Spirit House Bar has a great indoor and outdoor area. Inside, you'll find a cozy bar with a dance floor and DJ (on busy nights). When things get a little heated inside, the outdoor patio is perfect to hangout. There is also a fireplace for the cold intolerant guests.
Drinks are also good. Drink specials, good selection of beer and whiskey. (They also serve Japanese whisky, Yamazaki!)
Overall: this is a great place for a local bar. Classy, but not Hollywood pretentious. Casual, but not shabby.
What the hell is this place doing here? First of all, the Lincoln Plaza Hotel is this business hotel in the middle of a suburb where the most exciting thing to do used to be watching the old Chinese men smoke and spit gobs on the patio at Starbucks. (Well, for me anyway.) Â
Out of curiosity, my friends and I came up here early on Saturday night to see what the hubbub was all about. Â We entered the hotel not without our doubts. Â Undaunted by the doofy pre-teenagers playing Angry Birds in the lobby while waiting for their parents, we walked awkwardly up the stairs. Â And boy were we surprised by what we found!
Clean, modern, spacious, and decidedly un-shady. Â There is a huge patio lit up by a fire-pit and lined with benches and tables for large parties. Â The interior room is split by the bar, with low tables on one side and lounge-y sofas on the other where a DJ was setting up for the night. Â The lighting was low, but not ridiculous, just like the volume of the music. Â We could chat pretty easily.
Friendly bartender. Â And so many Japanese craft beers! Â Tons of good stuff on tap and even more in bottles. Â I had a Hitachino Nest white ale on draft. Â Highly recommended. Â Fruit-flavored chu-hi is available for that girl you're trying to get drunk. Â We didn't have any of the food, but the list on the back menu is quite long.
Dress pretty, ladies. Â This is a sleeker lounge in the vein of the Standard downtown and I felt quite underdressed in my jeans and flannel. Â
Well played, Spirit House. Â Well played.
FINALLY!
I stumbled upon Spirit House Bar with a friend on Thursday night. & for those of you who are confused as to how to get here, it's in the Lincoln Plaza Hotel. If you're driving, you can park on the top floor of their structure and walk directly to the lounge area where there's a firepit! If you're entering through the hotel, take the stairs, and it's out the double doors.
Service: I didn't get the name of the bartender, but he was extremely polite and friendly. We were one of two parties there when we first arrived around 8PM, so he was quick to serve us our drinks. We wanted to take our seats outside, so we opened a tab and notified him so he could bring us our food. It does take a while for the food to be prepared, so be warned. My friend got up 4-5 times to order more drinks throughout the night until 1130pm, and since he tipped really well I assume the service was just as amazing even though more groups started showing up.
Food: My friend had corn dogs, and he said they were good; he actually didn't seem to need the dipping sauce though it came out with two bottles. I had the tako fries - cafe sized french fries with dried bonito heavily sprinkled on top. Both servings were on the smaller size, especially the corn dogs.
Drinks: I had a yamazaki pear and a cider. The yamazaki pear was decent; you can clearly taste the whiskey, but I couldn't detect the pear. The cider tasted like liquid caffeinated candy. Since I'm a lightweight, I had a good buzz going. My friend had a couple of shots along with a couple of beers. He kept commenting on how each was good. Excellent drinks and a good selection, and we were never given glasses that made us feel like we were being ripped off.
Atmosphere: The inside was not as dark as I expected it to be. Decorations were modern though it didn't look comfortable to sit in. We took our seats outside even though it had just rained, and though we had a table shaded from the rain, we decided to sit on the railing of the firepit. It was warm, and because it wasn't insanely busy, it provided an intimate and relaxing atmosphere. Roomy tables for large groups surrounded the firepit, so big groups are okay. As for the music, I had no idea what they were playing though it wasn't loud enough to be a bother.
It's hard to find a little lounge like this in the middle of Monterey Park. I sure hadn't expected it, but I will be returning if I ever need a quick drink after work since I only live 10 minutes away.
Cool place. Â Drinks are cheap; $5 shots, $7-$8 mixed drinks, and $7 micro-brews. Â Excellent selection of microbrews as well, maybe 10-15 on tap. Â There's a DJ spinning hip-hop, a dance floor, and a fire pit outside. As such, this place has a lounge kinda feel; the music is pretty loud and the seating arrangement is lounge-seating, so this isn't a place for large groups to swing by and eat dinner. Â I'd say this is a place to grab a drink & chill AFTER dinner.
The appetizer's are pretty cheap too. Â Wings are $5, fries $5, chips are $2. Â Everything here tasted average. Â The only thing I'd pass on are the $2 chips, they tasted slightly strange and I'd pass on ordering it again.
The bar is located on top of the Lincoln Hotel. Â You'll have to park on the very top of the parking structure to get here.
Great selection of beers, decent food, and reasonable prices. Â 4 stars in my book.
As we approached the hotel, we thought to ourselves "this has to be a mistake". I triple checked the address on Yelp and saw that we were in fact, at the right place.
With hesitation, we parked and entered the vacuous hotel lobby and were very confused. We heard music upstairs and despite the confusion, decided to take a chance. To our surprise, we found the bar on the second floor and we were very impressed. The inside is modern and laid back and the outside patio is awesome. There's a fire pit in the middle, surrounded by plenty of seating. The bartenders were very friendly and attentive, which is always a plus.
This bar really threw me for a loop! I really dig this place and plan to return soon.
Came here on Friday night not knowing what to expect and had a really good time. I wouldn't think that this bar would be tied in with the LA Beer week festivities but sure enough they had a keg of Bootlegger's Knuckle Sandwich on tap. Â
After ordering at the bar we ventured outside and the seating outside was nicer and bigger than I expected. The benches even had some padding for those looking to spend some time outside.
About half a beer into our drinks the server came and found us. Our food followed shortly. The food was good and the corn dog was maybe the best I've ever had, no dipping sauce needed.
We ordered another round and enjoyed the outside patio. It's nice to have a bar here, you can end your night here after dinner or start it off before you head out to the next destination.
If you are facing the hotel, there is an occasional naked person sighting.
Such a random place to have a bar! Went here on Saturday night and had a really good time. The prices weren't that bad especially for the vibe the spirit house bar provides.
I really enjoyed that they had live music which made me want to get up and dance. I love the fact that the spirit house bar has indoor and outdoor seating. The indoor seating has TV's, stools, couches, and tables. The outdoors seating has big tables and a fire-pit with seating around it. The fact that it has both gave me the opportunity to be moody and do what I wanted . . . wherever I wanted.
The staff was friendly.
They also have a self-serve water dispenser at the bar which allows you to grab a refreshing drink of water without the hassle of bartenders.
I can't give this place one star because I have to admit that some of their food and drinks are pretty good. However, I feel that they really have to work on their service.
My friends and I decided to swing by this place since we haven't been here since Silk Lounge closed and we heard there was a new bar/lounge in its place. My first peeve was that the drinks I had originally wanted were not available. Their top spirit: "Sorry we're out". Their hard cider that comes canned: "Sorry we're out". I ended up with the pear cider at first which was pretty good except I wish they would've given us chilled glasses.
Other than ordering at the bar, good luck getting a good buzz when it takes 20-30mins to get your drink order. And it was just mainly beer that we ordered. Also, don't bother asking anyone at the bar or the wait staff for recommendations or information about the food/drinks because I don't think they eat or drink anything there.
We also ordered some tacos (good), some fries (good), and one other dish that didn't leave an impression. The food itself also took a good half hour to come out. We ordered a few times and had to check on each order every time. The waitress got our tabs all mixed up and there were the same drinks on separate tabs and she handed me another bill for a drink I had just paid for five minutes before.
The manager was very apologetic but that was about it. He just said he'll take care of us next time if we decide to give them another chance. Perhaps you should take care of your unhappy customers at the time they're unhappy? That might help get you that second chance, buddy.
SH has Happy Hour til 8pm, a calm space where one can find respite from geriatrics and unruly Mainlanders roaming around in 91754. Bootleggers, Drakes, Lost Abbey, Hitachino, Stone, etc. can all be found on the rotating taps. It's difficult for a small and new bar to start out filling so many taps with microbrews, so support your local brewers by supporting Spirit House.
Yes, there are sometimes groups of Latinos in a hotel full of Asian vagrants. But really, they know they're in a predominantly Asian area. Why not say hello, ask 'em about the closest edible cemitas and an affordable plate of ceviche mixta? FWIW, they're probably there for teacher conference or a quinceanera. Please remember MPK is still a diverse city, with over 30% Latino population. Drink and let drink.
Why support Spirit House instead of that OTHER craft beer place in Alhambra? SH didn't take community revedelopment money from the city, then proceed to straight rape the neighborhood with high prices ala the OTHER beer place. This is a dream project from 3 bros; "hey guys, wanna open bar" is really another way of saying: "dudes, I love you guys". The chef here has worked in the lines of some of LA's most loved restaurants, which is to say: the food is actually tasty. The other day, he walked in carrying "Asian Flavors of Jean-Georges". That's simply not happening at the OTHER beer place up the street.
Now we await the rest of the neighborhood to support their NEIGHBORHOOD joint, so the regulars can get a wider selection rye, bourbon and Scotch. Then you'll never have to leave WSGV to get your drunk on.
A note to all the folks who literally just got Off The Boat: tip. This is Ameerrrka, not Hangzhou. Tip even if just a $1. You can gdamn afford it, I see you rolling up in that Maserati.
And a tip: roll UP the parking structure to the top. The bar's on the second floor with a pleasant entrance where you'll walk right by the fire pit. This way, you won't have to fight the dismounting tourists desperate to find a bathroom.
