I absolutely adore this place! I have a ton of gay friends (and straight friends as well) who enjoy having a beer or ten with me any time of the week here.
The place is pretty slow during the week, its a nice place to get a beer and catch up with friends away from tons of people.
Over the weekend, however, its PACKED! They have jello shots sometimes, dancers, and all kinds of other goodies! The downstairs dance floor is pretty small, but the lighting is good and there are a few tables to the side to hang out in.
There's a smoking section upstairs (big plus for me as I love to kill my lungs when indulging in alcoholic beverages). They have a pretty decent (but VERY "gay bar" flamboyant) music selection and the videos play on screens all over the bar.
They have Ru Paul's Drag Race and karaoke on Monday nights (always a pleasure) and a lot of great drink specials throughout the week.
All the bartenders are great guys and gals and service fairly well (depending on the night and how busy it is, of course).
They also do a ton of special events. They have guest stars (usually drag queen shows) and a lot of fun stuff happening throughout the month. Keep in mind, some of these events do have cover charges. But the most i think I've ever paid to attend one is 7$.
My only down for this place is that they only take CASH! And the ATM charges 3$, so I suggest taking your drinking money out prior to walking in. We all know what open access to an ATM combined with being wasted can do to a persons bank account! :)
Other than that, great place, great vibe! Ill definitely be a long time regular. Straight, gay, trans, whatever! All are welcome at splash! Love it!
Well, just ok... Average cover charge and average drink prices... The crowd is too young for me... I had fun because I was with my friends, but I have to admit I felt a little bit out of place there.
There are two floors where they play different music. My favorite place is the balcony.
They play Selena. Enough said.
I am giving 3 stars just because I had a blast thanks to my friends... If i were completely objective, I would just give this place 2 stars.
Not sure why this place isn't listed in the "gay bars" category. Â Makes it a little tougher to find for those of us who don't live here and already know where to go. Â
Luckily, a few locals I met at Brix were heading here and suggested that I come with them to check it out.
I'm glad I did, as this is the best San Jose gay bar I've been to in the last few years. Â The two nights I went, the top floor was busy without being uncomfortably crowded; the bottom floor was mellower, nice for when I needed a break. Â Decent pop music and a diverse, friendly crowd made for a good time. Â The outdoor space was a nice plus on a warm night.
Queers visiting family from out of town, take note: Â sometimes you need a break from suburbia and strip malls, and this is where you'll find it.
I came here last Friday with my friend to party. It was fun. I'd enjoy the club in this alley street. They started to charge for cover around 10pm, good thing I came before in time. They also have drinks deal, I got a drink and got the second one for $1. It ended around 10pm that night. The drinks were good, not strong.
The club is clean compare to the other gay clubs I've been dancing at (Castro in SF). To me, it's like a clean version of the Cafe (in SF). They had a dancefloor downstairs near the bar and upstairs near the bar as well. The outdoor patio is upstairs and it's real nice to drink and chat outside with the moon shining.
Overall, nice gay club.
The review that was coming.
I know my rep might take a blow from some of my less homo-friendly friends but it's not like I care, we live in the 21st century.
I don't usually go gay clubbing, but I have a couple gay friends I like to hang out with and also a number of girl friends who enjoy gay clubs because they offer a pressure-free fun environment.
I've been gay clubbing twice and each time I've went I've been hit on by a handful of guys. My girl friends say that I should be flattered, but I just get sad, long story. No love from the girls I've given my affection to.
With that said this place had great music, EDM-type and I liked the music videos you get to watch. I kept staring at the screen because Darryl from the Walking Dead was in a Lady GaGa video and I wanted to see what he was going to do.
There are two half naked dancers on the bar on the second floor and a patio outside with plenty of space all around. The dancers are buffer than I am which made me think at the time that I should start exercising more.
Lots and lots of gay dancing, if you don't like the sight of two gay guys grinding on each other I wouldn't recommend this place. I am definitely not a fan but I liked hanging out with my friends and watching them giggle at the homo-erotic-like dancers.
If somebody gay is reading this, no offense, but if a guy tells you he's straight don't continue hitting on him thinking you can convert him. One, he might be there just to hang out with a girl he has a crush on. (Not me, but just saying, I could totally see myself doing that) Two, it puts tension on the gay-straight friend relationship. (not a problem with me either, but long story short whenever I talk about gay rights-views etc... I am trying to be an advocate/ambassador, however I've heard horror stories that make it hard for certain people to warm up to the idea that straight or gay everybody can get along)
In my experience homosexuals of both genders may also have attractive girl friends, for the straight guys who could use a reason or two to visit a place like this.
FINALLY, a great place to dance-music was great non stop, Rihanna, Britney Spears, Black Eyed Peas and some older stuff from Beyonce etc, all great dance tracks.
Took my dad from Germany there and he didn't even realize it was a gay club until maybe later around 1am, lol.
Lots of mixed crowd, very pleasant, all just having fun and yeah, some people don't seem to have a room but should get one, got a little wild with couples dry humping and guys making out and the group groping stuff on the dance floor.
If that doesn't offend you, I don't care because the club looks nice, cover was only $5 and like I said the music was awesome. I only stayed downstairs but there's a second dance floor upstairs. We went here Saturday night Dec 29th from 11pm-2am.
My husband and I are so happy we found a great dance club in San Jose, as we discovered gay clubs rock. We end up having more fun than anywhere else.
Love it!
My main beef with this place is the cover charge. $8 at around 11:30 and for no reason? Not even in the city, but in San Jose? I pay $5 at The Cafe in Castro for a much better time. There was supposed to be a drag show going on, but we saw nothing of the sort.
Walked in, barely populated, and didn't even feel like drinking. They have 2 floors, which is convenient, and the top floor is always more popular, playing a mix of EDM and salsa mashups.
Not sure about the drink specials because I was so bitter about cover, haha.
I love splash. They have 2 rooms - one for house music and one for pop/rap. Both rooms have full bars. The cocktail waiters and the go-go dancers wear skimpy outfits and they are HOT! Plus they sell jello shots for super cheap. Everyone loves jello shots! I also love the outdoor patio where you can get some air and also look down at all the people walking around on the street.
This club is super sexy fun!
I came here to visit a few friends on a Friday night, I am not gay but was asked to hang out by some friends, I have to say I really like this bar for these reasons:
1. The bartenders (upstairs) were so freakin nice, I ordered a drink they had on tap, it ran out mid way and the bartender did not charge me, but I still gave a great tip because that was so sweet and great customer service, and in general they were just so nice and welcoming.
2. The Dancers are very cute, more cuter than the ones in SF, they as well were so sweet and fun.
3. The DJ: the DJ upstairs played awesome house music from start to finish of my time their. My intentions were to stay for 2 hours, I ended up hanging out til closing because of the music.
4. I love the patio upstairs, you can smoke (which I wish they banned), because it is so packed and drunk people with cigarettes is all bad! and you can people watch on the balcony down to the street.
5. The security guy and assistant manager were so nice and welcoming also.
I am not from San Jose, but very happy I found out about this place, because I would like to go again. Also, this place gets packed by 10pm, there is a cover charge -I didn't have to pay! Â Â ;-) Â If your in San Jose, Gay or Straight this is a cool bar for dancing and drinks with friends. The patrons seems cool to. I forgot how nice it was to leave SF and yonder into another hood for a good time. I really enjoyed it here.
Ended up at Splash with my cousin's friends. We immediately hit the dance floor upstairs and the tunes were pretty good, I especially liked that they included Madonna and Prince...
The bartenders were cute and FRIENDLY which is a BIG PLUS in my book! AND they have my beer on tap!!!
I DID NOT care for the messy bathrooms though, tp & toilet gaskets all over the floor.
We were herded downstairs, after whatever o'clock, which was fun dancing up on that block or whatever it was, until, out of nowhere, the straight guy was all up in my personal space asking for my number; AS IF!!!
Its definitely a great place to party IF you're not looking to hook up with anyone. The place is swarming with couples, at least the night I was there.
Last night was a special night for me . I had childhood cancer in my skull when I was a kid and now every year I celebrate my remission annivercery by going to karaoke . It's a tradition I started when I lived in San Francisco and used to go to the mint . All my friends kept telling me , go to Splash , go to Splash , so I finally went to splash .
I walked in , found a song in the song book tipped the KJ and turned in my song then went to the bar . There was only one bartender , but that's really all that was needed because the bar was not that busy . The bartender was so busy talking to her friends that she never noticed me , so I walked over to the well where she was talking to her friends and stood in line and  waitied to be served . She put a coaster down like she was going to serve me but then kept talking to the two attractive young women she was flirting with at one point turning her back to me to talk to another girl in the corner who just sang an Adele song  . I left the bar , went back to my friends and sat there drinkless for three songs then went back to the bar . Once again ignored !
I went to the KJ told him I was leaving and why and then drove to King Of Clubs in Mt View . I ended up getting my first drink of the night at 12:35 am at King Of Clubs , by that time september 24th was over and so was my annivercery .
i have never had such horrible sevice , sorry If my wanting to spend money in your bar got in the way of your social life !
and for those of you who feel like singing on a monday night , King Of Clubs has better service and there song book is three times thicker !!!!
Since the remodeling Splash has never looked better! I went here for a night out, even though it's really nice and under new management it's not what I expected! First off they make you wait outside for like 20 minutes and when you get it it's not even packed! The drinks are over priced and watered down! Oh and the music is not what it used to be!!!!! Just techno beats all night!!!! Well I'm lying not all night the last 30 minutes they played some good hip hop! That's when the party started! Lol I miss the old splash! They had a better vibe and good music! I won't be back here anymore! Too bad I used to be there a whole lot! :) Â Guess I'll be going to Brix instead! There music is a bit better!
Review Source:This place is coo, yeah coo not cool. haha
I'm not gay/lesbian but my friend invited my friend and I to go for a drag show. I've been to many gay bars to count and the last time I came to this one was before it was remodeled. I had an ok time. Â It can get pretty crowded and the stairs leading to the second bar and dance area can make it hard for ladies with heels. Be cafeful!
The night we went they had drink specials buy one get one for 1.00. score! Its cool. I think i prefer Hunters( if its still called that?) because its one floor.
First time here in Feb2012 (on a Saturday night) when I decided I'd go out with a good friend/hair stylist extraordinaire ;)) after a good long years of not going to gay bars/lounges.
We pre-gamed at home and at TDs (which is close to my house). Â Needless to say, we were extremely happy, a tad lubricated when we moved to our next venue-- this place.
I'm so glad we went. Â I do not remember how much the cover charge is, or how much the drinks were that night but I do remember having a great time--hence the five star rating (woohoo indeed!!).
* The door dude was nicely dressed, love it! Â I remember that black suit - tight cut on pants and European silhouette on that jacket.
* The crowd is mix-- love love mix [men/women] crowd! Â A great bunch are beautiful and very friendly. Â This makes it a great experience, especially for someone that does not frequent gay bars.
* The music is great - dance floors below and upstairs.
* Smoking area upstairs--which is also a great place to chat with friendly people.
* The coat check attendant is very friendly and definitely an eye candy (the blonde guy, if there's more than one attendant employed there)
* I remember just getting handed over my drinks so I could not comment on bartender service.
I did notice some attitude on some kids, but hey- I understand. Â Life might be too tough on some hence the angst. Â You find these types everywhere. Â But the good thing is, you have a majority of happy people here.
I haven't gone back here since early this year, but all in all --the experience I had is great that I'll think of going back when I feel like dancing in a sweet little town I know the way to----San Jose.
Until recently I really didn't find myself in Downtown San Jose perhaps because I used to work not far from there and when it was time to go home, I got the hell out of the South Bay!
I've been here twice now. I like the vibe, atmosphere and totally dig the upstairs patio when I need a little air/conversation. They sponsor my friend's softball team so that's what really gets me here because I am all about supporting my friend when he holds functions.
The drinks are strong and a little pricey but I don't mind because that's not always my main focus. They have a nice sectioned off dance floor and ample seating around it on the first floor. Upstairs is another bar area and of course the patio so if needed this place can host quite the crowd.
I'm sure I'll be back.
In A Nutshell:
*Get better DJ's and they will come.
*Good layout, especially the downstairs since there is plenty of room to both dance and sit and chill.
*You can walk around bare chested if you want, which is really cool and there's no drama.
Overall, I never had my butt cheek grabbed while I was using the urinal, but hey I take it as a compliment ;) Â That's coming from a straight guy.
Ah Splash... so new and fresh in a way.
The look and layout is fabulous. Absolutely great. I love that part certainly.
The drinks are a bit more expensive compared to other places I have gone to such as Macs and Brix and TDs. But not that much more, maybe like 50 cents to a dollar. Some are 3 dollars more though.... darn those specialized martinis I enjoy so much. But seriously, going out to a club, this is par for the course.
I enjoy the music quite a bit. They have an upstairs and a downstairs. So, when I am not feeling a song or a couple songs in a row, switch floors and viola, problem solved.
Only things I don't like is that the music is INCREDIBLY loud at all times. Places like Brix and TDs that open early have the music turned down for the first few hours and then as people come they pump it up. This is nice because I can actually grab an early drink or two and talk to friends, but not so at Splash. NO TALKING allowed unless you go outside. Just can't hear anyone.
I am not a big fan of the private events they constantly host upstairs, leaving everyone else to the first floor only. But I suppose its a good idea and makes things a little more interesting for those that attend them.
Maybe I am cheap, okay I AM cheap but hey, gotta protect my money! But, I do not like paying cover. ANYWHERE. They are already going to get all the cash on me anyway. Cover just means one less drink. If they could guarantee that the DJs got the cover money, I am fine with that. But you know businesses these days.
Finally, the best thing about Splash is they look at whats going on and pay attention real well. They noticed people enjoy some seating, so BAM, tons of new seating. They noticed there was NO WHERE to put your drink while in the bathroom, so BAM, shelves for drinks. They noticed everyone had to go upstairs for the restroom, so BAM, bathroom downstairs.
Oh, one last thing... maybe I am oblivious but I have no clue when they have things going on lol. Several times I have gone for a simple late afternoon drink, to only find myself eventually surrounded by people in some sort of fund raiser. Probably my fault for not paying attention though!
I've never had a bad time at Splash... Â I love the remodel, especially the upstairs!!! Â I love a bar that has a patio, sometimes you just need some fresh air, or some "fresh air" *cough cough*... Â love the buy one get one free deals, Â but i wish i had a friend that drinks the same drinks as me so we could truly get the best out of it!
Review Source:We don't have a lot of Gay bars and nightclubs in Downtown San Jose, the only one we use to have after they closed Splash for remodeling was Brix and Mac. Mac is a gay bar. Brix is a bar & nightclub. Thus, people preferably goes to Brix to dance and listen to some music. Sometimes they have male-gogos as a visual.
But after a couple of years, people got pretty sick of Brix and was just yearning for something new. My bestfriend (yes, he's gay) have been talking about how much he is excited about Splash's remodel and can't wait 'til it opens up.
When it did, his birthday celebration was held at Splash.
I was skeptical, but kept an open mind. When I arrived at Splash, I have to admit, I was pretty impressed of the remodeling. Although I've seen better make-overs, but considering that the bar / nightclub probably didn't make a lot of money before they closed, it's actually pretty good.
The dance floor on the 1st floor looks more spacious. The lighting gotten better, but the ambiance I think it too dark.
The neat thing is they have a patio up on top now.
So yeah, if I ran into any people who's looking for a gay bar / nightclub, I would definitely refer them to Splash =]
(side note: I recently went there for a Cloud9 event and I have to say, I think it's a perfect spot in San Jose to do those day time parties =])
Ok so I'm a veteran I used to go here back in the day before the remodeling a few years ago back in 2007 or so I think. Back then it used to have a really good atmosphere even though it wasn't as busy as it is now. So recently I finally decided to check it out after all this time and I dunno if it was because it was St. Patrick's Day or what but the cover was $10 (I was expecting it to be $5 but I understand its a holiday) and they up the prices.
The music was aite didn't think it was bad, the new look is pretty nice I like it but the reason I'm giving a low rating is because for 2 drinks, Long Islands to be exact it was $25.50 meaning that one mixed drink is more than $12 BUCKS. Now I know I haven't been out in a while but I still get a drink now and then at a bar and I know I'm not tripping when I say that this shit is way too expensive. I mean I've order from nice lounges and the most I've paid is 10 maybe 11 for a drink. And to make things worse it wasn't even that strong. All I know is if I'm gonna shell out 12 bucks this shit better be strong.
A couple of other reasons why I gave it a low rating was cause the bartenders could be friendlier and also there was a broken glass cup on the dance floor that I stepped on and it seems like it had been there for a while.
All in all it was ok but to be honest I'm not in a hurry to go back there if the drinks are that pricey I might as well go to BRIX where the drinks are cheaper and stronger.
I'm getting over this place pretty fast. The music is always WAY too loud to have a conversation (even with like 3 patrons in the bar they still blast it) and there are rarely ever enough people here to consider dancing.
I came for the Monday $1 drink special but didn't see any posters up for it, so after being ignored by the bartender for a while I asked, "This is the $1 wells night, right?" He said yes, I ordered two vodka drinks, he made them and said it was $4. WTF? I JUST asked if it was $1 wells!!
Don't get me wrong, $2 drinks are still a great deal--I'm annoyed with the service, not the price. A more service-oriented bartender would have said something.
***UPDATE***
The bartender contacted me after reading this review, explained that the extra $2 was for Redbull as a mixer, and apologized for not telling me at the time. I can understand now why he wouldn't mention it since people rarely ever order a drink for the first time, this just happened to be the case.
No more grievance with the service, but my point about the music still stands. The ambiance at Splash wants to pretend every night is Friday night but I'd rather relax and soak in an average Tuesday ;)
WHAT THE FUCK did the bartender put in our AMFs?!?!?
Went here with a group of friends for the first time and was really impressed with the club! Downstairs had a bar, tables, and a pretty good sized dance floor! Â My friend and I wanted a couple of silverbacks, but the bartender was straight up and honest and told us they didn't have any of ingredients for it...... So we settled for AMFs! OMG wrong decision! It was straight up alcohol.........not enjoyable and I actually had to wait for the ice to melt SOOO I can take a good sip of it without wanting to throw up! Other than that, the staff here is pretty cool!
Upstairs was crackin... There was another dance floor and a smoking area! It can get really packed to the point where they have to hold people back from going up there! Great music all night which was definitely a plus! Â I'm not sure how this place is on Thursday and Friday nights, but it was definitely a good Saturday night when we went!
Oh, How many times have I been to you Splash Bar. So many nights of endless fun. Even the time I threw up in a bucket, I was taken care of by the bouncers as they carefully escorted my out to the dumbsters with two bottles of water.
Great place if you enjoy looking at male eye candy. Daily drink specials are nice, but during peek hours, drinks get expensive. They only accept cash, so watch out. You run out of money, your done for the night. lol
Also....whats the deal with quaters? Almost every drink is priced with an extra 25, 50, or 75 cents. Freaking annoyed with channge in my pocket, but no big deal.
Ive swung by a few times with groups of friends and have been disappointing every time unfortunately. Â It has SO MUCH POTENTIAL. It looks cool, and they've played some good music, but the place is pretty much dead.
The drinks are pretty pricey too. We ended up going to the bar down the street to get our drink on.
I'm hoping it's just because its new and doesn't have the reputation that the other clubs nearby have. I wouldn't mind having another fun place to hang with my friends but right now, Splash just isn't doing it for us.
I'm not giving up hope just yet though. I might just reserve this place for my locations i wanna go when i dont wanna be seen.
Cover charge? Lame. Weak Drinks (I only sort of agree with this claim... depends on who the bartender is) but also Lame. I went here on 2 different Thursday nights. Â I think it's from 8 to midnight on thursdays that they have a bunch of really good drink specials.. hello $3 long island?? $2 svedka shots?? yes, thank you. And there was no cover on thursday but plenty of people and energy.
The number one place to go in Downtown San Jose if you love to dance! I love how the place is set up.. There is actually a spacious dance floor which is next to (not surrounding) the bar...
LOVE how all the songs have videos... The songs are mostly pop and dance but they are fun songs and definitely get the people moving. (Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Kylie Minogue, Britney, etc....)
I will definitely be coming back to Splash soon!
As a straight gal I LOVE gay bars--partly because there's no pretension & no one hits on me! I can relax & just enjoy myself completely.
I was in the area with a guy friend(also straight) of mine & we literally found it by the loud music flowing out of the top floor, which is an open patio/bar area(which was unfortunately closed that night.)
It is a video dance bar so the visuals in here are SO entertaining, I could stare at the walls & be happy all night. ;D Â I kept repeating " I love this place, I love this place!"
I'm not too sure about the crowd as it was Tuesday night & it was fairly small but people were dancing & having a great time & a lot of guys were flowing in & out all night.
The bartenders on Dec. 27th were AMAZING!! So friendly & helpful. I always (and I mean always) have a tough time deciding initially what to drink & he just jumped right in with suggestions. We ended up getting what he suggested & was really pleased.
Def a great first impression of the place.
First off, I'm glad another gay venue has opened its doors... And kudos on the new look. Sorry to say but you're not really winning my business here. Don't get me wrong, I'll come on a coverless night and get a drink to baby sit ( since they sure as hell ain't getting me drunk). Â I'm giving one star for sevice and 3 stars for the crowd. So ill rate it with a 2 to be fair.
Review Source:Can't really say much about the bar itself... but I was apartment hunting in the area, saw the big rainbow flag, and popped in to see if I could hit anyone up for some advice. Nobody was there at 3pm except for the bartender who was super friendly and helpful. We had some soda (long day ahead of us), chatted, and planned out next stops. Super-helpful guy, really nice to us, and it was appreciated. So we'll be back as 'real' customers in the very near future.
Review Source:As a gay man in San Jose, it is always exciting when a new gay bar opens. Â Splash has potential to be quite influential in the gay community in San Jose, but it will close if it continues on the path it is currently on. Â When I compare the bar to Brix, it pales in comparison. Â Brix does not charge a cover on the weekends, Splash charges $7, Â Yes, Splash has a decent San Franciscoesque feel to it, but have you ever heard of a bar that makes you wait a half hour to go upstairs (where the bathrooms are located) because it is at capacity? Â The bartenders here are the worst I have ever encountered. Â Every single time they pour me a cocktail, I ask them to put more liquor into them. Â I have been in this industry for longer than I care to admit, and I always watch pour counts. Â They cheat you every single time. Â That's enough for me to want to set this bar on fire. Â Overall, just skip this place, it's really lame and they have no business in my community. Â Go to Brix, talk their great bartenders, they will actually get you drunk and not waste your time.. Â
1 star for a pathetic excuse for a nightclub.
Went to Splash last Saturday night. Â For anyones information, the owner is not the same, so don't slam him for allowing minors in to get closed down. Â The sound system is awesome! Â People were haveing a great time. Â There are NO DVD's being played in the club, so they don't skip. Â All the music is by computer so skipping is impossible. Â
The drinks are strong and flowing. Â They have cute shot boys serving up the shots. There are also cute gogo boys dancing on the bar.
No attitudes here, everyone is here to have a great time. Â Also the music is great TOP 40 music that we all know & love. Requests are taken so that everyone hears & dances to the music they want to hear.
If you want a great time, come to Splash. Â Yes there is a cover, but the vibe is great, the people are friendly and ready to have fun from the moment the music starts!
Also, there IS a bathroom downstairs so you don't have to wait in line to go upstairs which is always at capcity.
See you all at Splash!!
Not even worthy of one star. Albeit I live in San Francisco, and have 100x better clubs in my own neighborhood - this is a review based SOLELY on what a clubbing experience should be.
First - kudos to the owner for AFTER FOUR YEARS, getting his liquor license back. Please, don't be an idiot again and lose it for selling alcohol to minors. Hope you learned that lesson...
After rumor of it becoming a Badlands, it opened back up as Splash - which happens to look like a Badlands SF - whatever. It's big-ish, two bars, still small restrooms, good sound, good lights, and the roof top patio is still tops!
What the hell is this "you can't go upstairs to piss, drink, or smoke because we're at capacity - wait in line" bull? You want me to hold my 3-4 drinks worth inside and HOPE the line goes fast? FAIL.
Your bartenders pour a shitty drink. I ordered a Svedka Redbull - OK so you use Rockstar. Your bartender uses sugar-free/carb free/white can of Rockstar. I didn't ask for that. I tell him "um, I want normal Rockstar" so he stops, and continues to pour and mix the two. I explain I didn't order a 50/50. "It's the same thing" - NO IT'S NOT. Do your job, and remake it. He finally does. I also order 3 more drinks with that one, and leave no tip. You want your tip, work for it. Shit ain't a handout gurl.
Your VJ needs to learn how to mix song 1 into song 2 WITHOUT skipping the DVD, killing the volume completely before transition, OR killing everyone by switching from a set of diva-pop to shitty house craptastic. You need to learn to make those transitions so that you keep people interested.
And this bullshit from whoever works the door popping their head out and saying "cover is now $8" - IT WENT FROM 5, TO 8. Fo reeel?
Good luck staying open for that long by screwing everyone with your crazy ass cover, watered down drinks, ugly as sin go-go boys, and stupid wait-in-line policies.
Hun, if you seriously want a space that's not hot as hell, better music, and drinks harder than your average muscle stud, get the fuck to Brix. Those owners are totes knowing how to STILL work it. Save your cash babe - Brix has no cover on most nights. Holla!
Love,
Your gay in SF who really wants you to have a good time, without wasting your cash! xoxo
Went to Splash during Left Coast Live with several friends and had one of the best times in a long time. Â Great bartenders, very cute and accommodating servers, awesome music and two dance floors. Â Though I was with my husband while there, no one seemed to care about that. Â
Thanks, Splash for showing our whole group how to party without haters in the mix.
We're already planning our return visit. :)
Man, I've been coming here since it was the run down dump it was before (that we all still knew and loved) and have been anxiously awaiting for it to reopen.
The remodel looks GREAT up- and downstairs. Â I am glad that they got rid of that cheap tarp thing they had covering the patio before. Â It looks way better and there is actually a really pretty view of some of the older architecture in Downtown.
I have no complaints about the drinks, but I do have to say that I know a couple of the bartenders there personally so I know who to go to for what. Â I really miss the old bartender, Carlos, but people move on and you just have to make do!
That ATM they have there has always been a little problematic and it's funny that is still the case, so I already knew not to use it. Â There is a Chase nearby and both a B of A and Wells Fargo a short walk down the street. Â DON'T USE THE ATM!
The space is pretty awesome.Imagine if Badlands and the Cafe had a baby, and then san jose adopted it, that;s what it looks like inside.
Drinks are pretty descent, and the outdoor patio is awesome.
On my second visit (9/09/11) I was given a business card for a free entry on Friday or Saturday.
BUT it expires on 9/10/11) what a tease...
Finally another gay bar in SJ that is worth going to. I'm please to have a fun, hip place to venture out to. I heard the owners of Badlands in SF and Sac took this over. it shows.
Music is good, but could be better. Stop playing fucking Whitney Houston!!
Twinkie dance boys? Really? They look like they're prepubescent and stole their little sitter's underwear. If you're going to have go-go boys (which is stupid to me), then have some real men. The bar back, Gary (dark skinned, buzzed head, goatee) had more sex appeal than all the 12 year olds, put together. Let him dance all over the bar and your patrons will love it.
Patio: smoke, smoke, smoke. Haven't you heard, smoking is passe. It kills you. It's not cool and it's not cool that the "smart people" have to endure the second hand smoke just to enjoy the patio. Predominately overweight women on the patio and queens smoking. So sad.
Drinks, yes some of the bartenders seems to have just gotten out of bartending school. Put a little alcohol in the drinks, and people will spend more.
Decor: nice, I love that there are two dance floors. They need to start some theme nights (like the incredibly successful SideTracks in Chicago), Stage and Screen night on Mondays packs them in, and how about a little Latin night during the week (since there's really no place to entice the Latins, but DO NOT go for the lame drag show idea. Tacky, tacky. Just play some hip Latin music, a little ranchera music for flavor, and you'll develop a strong following).
My two cents. I'm hoping this bar goes from good to GREAT. Don't attack me for my opinion, I mean well.
Checked it out the Sunday after the grand opening.
San Jose finally has a proper gay bar to go to.
The space has been completely renovated complete for socializing, mingling and listening to music. The stairs are moved to the back for the flow to be better, and it looks like they put some thought into it.
However, let's note that I'm sure there is not a grill in this place. Unless if you count some naughty boy being spit roasted.
And then secondly, it's still San Jose. Waiting for developments...
I came during grand opening weekend and I was dead tired from being at the San Jose Gay Pride Festival, but honey I was glad I was dragged out to Splash!
The rennovations are fantastic! If you are familiar with the old layout, this new layout has a better flow and thought process to it. It still has two dancefloors and two bars, but I feel like it's easier to access both lower and upper floors.
The ONLY reason why this review is 4 stars and not 5 stars was because the drink prices were WAAAAAAY JACKED UP high during Pride weekend. However, rest assured during regular season drinks are cheap as heck. For example one the nights will feature a $3 Long Island Night as well as a happy hour that allows you to buy one cocktail and get your second cocktail for only $1! Say what? Amazing sauce!
Last note: They removed the fire place on the outdoor patio! Awwww. Other than that it's worth to check out for a great time!

I came here because a friend told me it was opening night. Â The venue has undergone a complete renovation which is definitely pleasing to the eye. Â They've definitely placed more emphasis on the two bars (1 located on each floor). I thought the bar placement was appropriate as this is where the money is made! The crowd seemed cool and people were lively and welcoming. Â
The reason why I'm rating this place 2 stars is because of several factors: 1)The music could be better. Â Before this place closed down, there were two different DJs and types of music. Â I miss the HipHop and R&B that they used to play upstairs. Â
2)Bar service. Â I'm sure that this is partly due to it being opening night, however, the drinks my friends and I ordered were incredibly weak. Â It seemed like they forgot to put the Hennessy in my Henn and Coke!!! Â Also, the bartenders were a bit slow and didn't really seem to pay attention to their customers (i.e. who has been waiting in line longer, etc etc. )
I think it's a great thing that this club reopened as there is a definite need for more gay bars, especially in the downtown San Jose area. Â I just hope that as time goes by, that management makes more improvements in service, quality, and music.
