The Star Fish Farm is a hidden gem on Boston Road to pick up fresh fish and tasty fried fish & fries at reasonable prices.
This "no frills" fish market sells a good variety of fresh fish (such as haddock, flounder, bluefish, red snapper, blue snapper, porgy, sea croaker, catfish, tilapia, cod fish) and other seafood (scallops, clams, stone crab). A takeout counter offers fried fish and seafood dinners served with fries at reasonable prices (most dinners $5.99-$10.50).
This fish market is very spacious, situated inside a space bigger than its needs with plenty of floor space between the long fresh fish counter and fried seafood takeout counter and does not have the pungent fishy odor found at other fish markets. There is a table with chairs in the market for eating in.
I stopped in here recently and ordered a Red Snapper & Fries Dinner ($6). After ordering, the red snapper (fresh from the fish market counter) was cut, cleaned, "de-boned", hand breaded and placed in the deep fryer for several minutes.
The fried red snapper with fries dinner was  absolutely fantastic, a good sized portion (several pieces of fresh fried fish and a pile of fries). The fried red snapper was hot and moist inside and the breading was crispy and light, fried golden to perfection and not greasy. The battered fries (comes frozen) were very crisp on the outside and soft inside, similar to the fries at Popeye's Fried Chicken.
This was definitely the best tasting fried fish (very fresh) I've had in a long while, and in Springfield, MA. Who knew?
