I would recommend for whole family.  Nine people for Father's Day.  We challenged  the kitchen ordering a variety of appetizers and various steaks with different temps.  All came out perfect.   Great food great service. We all will be back after we spread the word how good this place is.
Thanks for a great meal and the kids really enjoyed the arcade.  Oh by the way very reasonable prices and dinner includes a very nice salad or a very good home made  soup.  So glad we stopped by.
Love this place.  Have been going for years. The food and service is always outstanding, as I like my steak well done, on the off times I have gotten medium and sent it back, I've never received any  attitude as some other locations give, here they want the customer to be happy.  There have only been a few times that the owner/manager? Has not come by our table to make sure everything is good.
After dinner we always hit the arcade as my son has taken after his parents and LOVES arcades. We literally spend hours in there. Â
When we play games that payout tickets, if the prize counter isn't open, we take them home and bring them the next time we are in.  Makes it nice that way as the more tickets the better prize, and it's how my son got his first skateboard.
I haven't played the later tag or gone bowling, but due to birthday parties my son has  done both. The lazer tag so I've been told is totally epic and bowling is sick. (Apparently sick is the new bitchin' )
Will continue to be a regular and recommend it to friends.
The super chefs only work weekend evenings, whenever they feel like it! They are THAT GOOD. Â
That said, we went again Sunday noon-ish, dead quiet restaurant/bar at that time. Some activity at the bowling alley at the other entrance.
We worried needlessly when our server said the chefs weren't there, but there was a "good cook" on duty. Â
We had the 1/2 pound angus burger and fries. Â The burger was huge, moist, perfectly cooked. It was the special of the day, $4.95 with excellent pile of fries.
I had the grilled romaine with CAB steak cesar salad. Â Whoever heard of grilling lettuce? It was fabulous! A big head of romaine, sliced lengthwise and expertly grilled. It was smoky, moist and delicious. Also included kalamata olives and artichokes, the steak was the BIG surprise. Lots of it. Long generous strips of really good beef (CAB = Cal Angus Beef) and the best steak salad ever. Â Good parmesan and cesar dressing, and points of grilled garlic bread made it a super YUM. Â
Nice presentation, great service, this is far better than all the chain restaurants in Vacaville, and we've tried them all.
My taste-challenged husband said "NOW I know what you're talking about when you say REALLY GOOD FOOD." Â Even he could taste the subtle, delicate differences.
Average priced bowling alley with an extremely overpriced arcade. Gets super crowded on weekends, so if you don't get there early you're guaranteed a long wait. Don't get suckered into doing it at the arcade. Very few of the games are just one quarter, and most are 2-4. And we're not talking fancy games, were talking about $1 for air hockey and games that are over for my 6 year old in under 30 seconds. Â I'd MUCH rather go to Chuck E Cheese, buy bulk tokens and get5 games for each dollar! There is a restaurant that has really good looking food, but haven't tried it. My favorite part about Starz is they have bumpers on the lanes and offer ramps for the little kids, but maybe every bowling alley has this? Oh, and apparently they're open all night, at least on weekends.
My main issue with Stars is a couple of rude employees and rude regular patrons. I've been here 3 times and had a negative incident 2 of them
First time was in the arcade. My daughter put 3 tokens into a video game. When I told the teenage girl working, she told me to go back to the game and she'd meet us there. Five minutes went by and I went back to get her. A woman walked up to the counter a few seconds after me, and she tried to tell me I had to wait while she helped her. Nah ah, not happening! She finally rudely made the game work. The next game my daughter wanted to play was the dollar air hockey, but there wasn't enough air blowing out for the puck to make it across the table, so I wanted my money back. The chick told me that since she could hear the motor it wasn't broken. I told her to walk over and try it, but she refused. At that point I asked to talk to a manager, but she told me he wasn't there. I went to another employee, and was directed to a guy entering a bowling tournament of some type. I waited several minutes while he finished, told him what happened, and instead of him being apologetic he rudely said "so what is it you want?". Um, my dollar back like I just said, as asshole! I HATE it when people act like losing any amount of money under like $5 is no big deal. Money is money that I work hard for!
Second was waiting in the long line at the bar to get a drink. When it's finally about to be my turn, this girl in maybe her late 20s (bad tattoos including the cliched angel wings wings on her back) cut in front of me to order a drink. Guess because she was participating in some tournament (with enough people participating for her to wait and not hold them up) she didn't have to wait like everyone else. The bartender didn't seem to know her, but allowed her to cut despite 5 people in line. Now if there is some rule allowing this there needs to be a sign and they should at least be polite about it. If I was in my 20s still (and if my daughter wasn't with me) I would've given her a lesson in manners. Sorry for the rant, but this is a huge pet peeve of mine.
So all in all, if you want to bowl in vacaville you've pretty much stuck with Starz. But if you go out of your way to go there, you are insane!
They asked us how many games we wanted to play, we said 2. They said, ok it will be 60.00 for TWO games. Well, we got to play 1.5 games, the game will just end right in the middle of your playing. It was a major rip off. Will never go again. For 60.00 I can find a bowling alley and play two games with WAY less noise.
Review Source:If you're going to review this place compared to the options available in another area like the City or East Bay, of course this place falls a little short. But there isn't a hell of a lot to do in Vacaville, and that makes this place a good bet!
My boyfriend and I went here for the 49ers game a while ago...the place was packed with kids and families bowling and in that dining area, and we headed to the main bar/restaurant. It was crowded and loud and fun, with the big screen tv playing the game and the little ones all around on different channels. We got a table pretty easily and had a nice waiter, although she was a bit inattentive as the night wore on.
Tons of alcohol choices at good prices. We really liked the chicken appetizer and got plain salads. The Guinness Mac and Cheese was waaaaay too much. I was grossed out by how rich it was.
We were treated to some "funk" cover band, complete with costumes and the middle-aged people getting their groove on the dance floor was probably the best people watching I'd done in a long time.
I plan on going again soon! Very entertaining.
Lived in vacaville 10yr been twice with the kids and once out with friends. I thought the place was a little boring and something going on with manageme t and security guards just seemed a little agressive. Will never go back and children didnt enjoy it either. The night we went with friends they also told me the next day they didnt have fun because of the security guard and the man who said he was the boss. Millitary were treated like a threat. It was sad.
Review Source:be careful when trying to redeen a groupon or other online deal. Â i paid for my games on gotdailydeals, and the worker tried to get me to pay again. Â they also need better shoes for those with small feet. Â other than that, it's a good place to bowl, play games and just have fun. Â plenty of lanes. Â will be come back again.
Review Source:One of the best chefs around is at Stars, Chef Joey The specials he creates, along with regular menu items, are the best. I've never had a bad meal there and pricing is in line with what you get. There's live music on the weekends and it's a great place to take a date and dance the night away. Go early for the best seating.
Review Source:Saw a great cover band "Rebel Yell" here this past weekend. Â Was a mixed crowd from 21yr-60yr and EVERYONE was having a blast! Dance floor was PACKED. Could use a larger dance floor, or just remove some of the tables for room.
Staff is friendly, got drinks very quick. They have a large selection of beers on tap, and the food is pretty good. The place is clean, even the bathrooms! I would come here again.
Stars is a great local place for good wholesome fun. The bowling is very nice and the facilities are functional and clean. They have beer/pizza/snacks for a quick meals. The arcade has been expanded, but beware, the games are often not functional and eat tokens, requiring frequent visits for help. The laser tag area is not that great. Small and as a viewer you are unable to watch the game outside.
If you are looking for a great place to bowl- Stars is the one. If you are looking for a great game of lasertag- go to Scandia.
BTW- they also throw great birthday parties for kids. My 8 year old son loved his birthday there. We had a inclusive package complete with a dedicated hostess, flatware, decor, pizza and soda. They even threw in a bowling pin that everyone could sign and he took home. Great alternative to bounce houses! :)
Ok, went there to try to play some pool today, and the top floor was blocked off with a chain. Â When I tried to ask an employee about it, she responded like a typical teenager would with, "I don't know, I don't work in that area." Â So that's it... Didn't try to offer to help find an answer for me or anything. Â I just left and let her talk with her friend who were obviously of the same age and competence. Â The place looked pretty good as I walked through but I'm not sure I'd be going back. Â Is it even legal to charge a cover for a pay per view event. Â I thought that was illegal, but maybe I'm wrong.
Review Source:Went here last weekend to see my favorite 80's cover band, Rebel Yell. Took the kids & had a blast. The food is delicious, the service is great, and the bathrooms are clean & big. The only negatives were that we called ahead of time to find out the arcade hours--the recording said 24 hours a day; but when we got there we actually found out they have a curfew for kids & kick them out at 11:00. The after 10 p.m. crowd is pretty rough looking, and there were several people right outside the arcade door having drunk arguments which I think should have been moved away from the building. Also, there was a very strong pot smell in the bowling alley for most of the night. I support medical marijuana but not in a family establishment. The laser tag prices seemed pretty steep & they won't honor their web coupon unless you print it out. As far as the restaurant/bar goes, I give this place 5 stars! The arcade & bowling alley are a generous 3 stars. Overall it was still a fun night.
Review Source:I was going to Stars years ago when it first opened. Â It's a poor man's dave and busters. Â I love going there on a Sunday and just kicking back, having a couple of beers and just relaxing.
They have a great selection of beers. Â I love Bass and they have it on tap. Â
Over time they've added lazer tag and even live bands. Â Their cover charges can be pricey with $10 for certain special events like UFC fighting that we went too.
Stars location isn't the best and they are not that good at advertising. Â Even on their site it's very basic and it's been a huge weakness of this place. Â It has grown a lot and that's great.
The food for a place like this is actually pretty good. Â Not awesome but solid and usually fresh tasting. Â
Bowling can be a chore; especially during the week with so many leagues going on, so call and check on times when you can bowl. Â Bowling there is a bit pricey but they usually have coupons on their sites for tokens, bowling and lazer tag.
One dumb thing is they lack bowling balls. Â Sometimes they have very few available on busy nights which is kind of ridiculous.
Pros:
Good cold beer;
Lots of tv's to watch sporting events. Â
Live music, bowling, lazer tag
Upstairs has a pool hall and shuffle board.
Cons:
Sometimes bowling times are limited for leagues
Pricey Bowling
I like Stars and usually go their for meetings or to hook up with a couple of buddies. Â Fun, relaxing time in hot Vacaville.
Stars has been a perfect place for our company to meet clients. It has a comfortable atmosphere, yet is not crowded and loud. We often meet there for lunch and the first time I ate there I was surprised the food was so good. But, what's better than this is that every single time I've eaten there, the food has been very good.
I've been there so many times now that I have tried many menu items. I love good soup and this place rocks with soup. I want to lick to bowl it is so good. The beef barley is off the chart. I absolutely love the baja wrap, and the list goes on and on.
They always have a lunch special that is a real bargain, but I usually order off the menu to satisfy my latest craving. The pricing is very reasonable--even inexpensive--and especially for the quality of the food.
Love this place!
Vacaville/Fairfield has a very limited nightlife... My friends and I frequently go here, but I don't mind the place! They have local bands that I love the watch even though they suck (I like to support the underdogs). The price for drinks is... actually I can't remember, but I remember it not being as pricey as downtown prices! It's never too crowded (unless it's a very good band). The staff is friendly. They also show UFC fights here with a $10 cover charge.
I've never been anywhere else in the center beside the bar area. My friends and I always have fun here because we make it fun. Plus, the local bands appreciate the support when they see people on the dance floor.
Not really sure how to rate this place. I've gone here a number of times not really by choice more that its the only bowling center nearby. I run a daycare and the kids really enjoy bowling so this is where I go..
The past few times that I have bowled there it was ok, just got in and got out. When I go in as a daycare they have given me a discounted rate but this last time I went in the lady working the register wouldn't honor it and was extremely rude. I tried to be nice but the more I had to communicate with her the harder it was.
Once we got our shoes we went to our lane only to not have it on so I went to the front to ask her to turn it on and she looked annoyed but went to her computer and did something. When I got back it still wasn't on, the pins were not down, so again I walked back to let her know. With attitude she walked towards my lane to see as if I was lying which really annoyed me all I wanted to do was let the kids bowl and leave.
In conclusion I wouldn't say this place is horrible based solely  on this last experience but not somewhere I would be excited to go to again.
This is a pro bowling alley - if you're a pro bowler on a league, you probably love it and should keep on coming. Â But if you're like me, a family with kids thinking about a "recreation center", stay away.
We went to Stars on a weekday (Tuesday?) in the summer, and there was a 2.5 hour wait for a lane - impossible for me, let alone the kids we were there for. Â
So we went to the game room, and after the kids played video games, and a lot of silly games to win "tickets" for trinkets, we discovered that they only redeemed tickets on Fridays and Saturdays. Â But they had the games running, with no indication that they wouldn't redeem the tickets anywhere - other than the back rear corner of the flipping building.
Seems evil and mean to me. Â Our kids were crying, and their manager was "in a meeting" and wouldn't see us. Â All they needed to do was have someone go back to the game room and give some silly trinkets, but they wouldn't do it.
Mean, mean, mean.
My son curses the place when we drive by. Â So do I.
This review is for the Pro Shop inside the rec center.
Sorry if it doesn't belong here..I couldn't find it elsewhere.
Anyways, it took me a long time to find out what their hours were, and when Kevin (the owner and driller) would physically be in the shop to drill balls. No one returned my messages.
However, when I finally got my bowling ball drilled, I was pleased with the service and Kevin was kind enough to wait for me until just before closing.
Got my ball drilled. That's all I wanted.
Really huge alley with a seperate bar/lounge/dance floor w/live bands and a gaming center. Plenty of lanes to play. I've been here numerous times even having a holiday party for my staff when I was a store manager @ starbucks. If you're there Fri or Sat nites, they have a cover if you want to go into their bar/lounge. Usually it's a $5 cover. Drinks are fairly priced and they have appetizers you can order. There's pool tables upstairs and decent sized dance floor and tables downstairs. The bands that play there are usually really good and you'll see a lot of people dancing. They also have a huge outdoor patio for you to bring your drinks out and enjoy a cigarette. The only knock i have on this place is the price per game. I was here a couple of weeks ago and for the 5 of us to play to games cost almost $70 including the shoe rentals. Overall, a great place to hangout with friends if you're in the area.
Review Source:It's cool, I guess. I can see myself going bowling for a few games, but it better be for a good reason.
I mean... it's far from my house. I don't live in Vacaville. I would rather not waste gasoline to come here for only one or two games. Plus, playing games often will add up and get expensive.
I see they have an arcade and laser tag. I don't see the need to play those. It doesn't interest me. hahaha
My friend told me the food was expensive and the only good thing were the fries. Nah, I'd rather just go eat somewhere else.
I'm not sure which is the smallest bowling ball size. I used a 9lb ball and it was pretty heavy for me. hahaha
Get some coupons by going to their online website (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fstarsrecreation.com%2FCOUPONS.html&s=951d0202547fcb2f910650f07079aa95e63334323a8d8b2d72aa684a09919276" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://starsrecreation.c…</a>).
To bowl, you check in at the front, get your size bowling shoes, type your name on the computer, start the game, blah blah blah. After that, you go back to the front where you pay for how ever many games you played. That's pretty much it.
It's pretty cool here. If only there was a bowling alley in Fairfield. Then, I'd go bowling more.
Definitely no Dave and Busters. I think the problem with this place is they try to be everything to everyone.
STARS has a lot of great activities Laser Tag, Arcade, Bowling, Pool, etc, but they do them all kinda awful.
First off Bowling for 3 people for two games was 35.00 that was very pricey. The lanes were crowded, but it was a Saturday night. However, there was a shortage of balls and people kept snagging ours as if we weren't even standing there.
Forget about pressing the lane button for service. I am pretty sure this was something the employees just laugh at. Ours was lit for at least 45 minutes before we gave up.
In general the employees aren't very friendly (other than the bar tender and the guy at the kids Laser tag counter) In general they were indifferent and one lady running the pizza booth ignored me (the only person at the counter) for 10 minutes until I spoke up.
The Arcade is limited with a few good games, but mostly all older stuff that has not been maintained or updated. The choice of prizes for tickets is downright miserable, so I wouldn't even be bothered. Doesn't matter though I think half the machines that actually issued tickets were out of order any way.
So lots of stuff to do there, but be prepared for miserable employees, over priced everything...oh and even water will cost you there 25 cents a cup and there is no drinking fountain.
This is not an establishment that is worth your money and they ask for a lot of it. Mediocre lanes, HORENDOUS service, and to top it off there is absolutely no appreciation for customers. During an evening game I was offended by an associates disregard for courtesy and manners; I was spoken to and treated like a common criminal not a paying patron. When I asked for a manager to report that I was dissapointed with the way I was approached, it just so happened that the manager was the associate in question. I explained to him that I was seeking a simple apology and I was told I wasn't owed one. Needless to say I will never step foot in this establishment and would advise anyone else to do the same. Theanager in question is named Michael Fisher. Thanks Mike you really made our birthday celebration special.
Review Source:My personal experience with this place consists of purely drinking, eating and playing pool. Â The drinking is alright considering they don't have too much of a variety of top shelf liquors. Â Mainly not having Sailor Jerry spiced rum, but I'm sure they accommodate nicely for tequilas, vodkas, and gins. Â Prices for drinks are relatively cheap so cant really complain. Â The food is good, nothing to write home about, but its good just for a quick bite or hanging out with friends that just want something to eat. Â Pool there is pretty cool, the cues aren't totally fawked beyond playability, tables are in good shape, and they usually have good specials where you can play your first hr free. Â Overall a good establishment.
Review Source:NOT ENOUGH HOUSE BALLS. SERIOUSLY!?
We came here ay 8:00pm on a Friday night, just before it got really crazy. Â About 8 of us. Â Got 2 lanes pretty quickly, went over to our lanes, and looked around and found NO BALLS. Â
Enough people complained that the staff started making announcements over the PA for everyone to share their balls with anyone else. Â People were roaming around asking others if they were using their balls, and of course, they were. Some of them just sat around at their lanes, looking sad, patiently waiting for other people to finish. Â
So my question is, how do you not have (even close to) enough balls for the amount of bowlers you can accommodate?
Also, we walked into the arcade around 10pm, and although the games were on, the prize desk was closed, lights out, no staff. Â How am I supposed to redeem my TICKETS!?! Â I want my little parachute man!
I'd give it 1 star, but I'll be a little generous since the bowling lanes were kid friendly for my 3 year old. Automatic bumpers per bowler, and the racks to roll the ball off of. Â That pretty much saved them from the pits of the 1 star rating.
I won't be coming back here to bowl.
This place gets one star only for the nice blond waitress that tried to put out the fire that the other rude waitress started with my boyfriend and I. This incredibly rude waitress who had her two children there with her while she was at work started running her mouth quizzing us on the world cup. She told us there wasn't a game on- we came to watch the 1130 Spain game... She told us Spain was eliminated... We calmly replied they were not... & that they were playing portugal (we incorrectly spoke - they were playing Paraguay) She fought us on this until she found the game on the t.v.... To which she still decided to be rude and point out that they were playing PARAGUAY... And she denied any of her previous wrong statements. She continued to quiz us on our world cup knowledge to which she clearly knew nothing about the world cup... And so I told her she was being "inappropriately rude"... And then we made the right choice and went to BJ's instead... Which had the game we wanted on every tv- even the big one!!!
Case in point- avoid this place with shitty service and shitty screens.
Lady with your two kids- I'm praying they get adopted.
(No reviews for this place yet? Really?)
I am from the Sacramento area but some friends-of-friends from the Bay Area head out here for bowling every Sunday so I've gone a couple times. I'm not a bowler but I may become one, this place is pretty fun. They also have an arcade which I haven't checked out and apparently Lazer Tag as well. There is a cafe; I needed food really badly last time so I got a burger and fries - it *was* a tad expensive however it was very very good, no frozen hockey-puck cafeteria burgers here. This one was handmade and fresh and huge, and the fries were hot and crisp. I'll likely eat here again, and not because I have to either.
They offer a couple coupons on their site for free bowling and Lazer Tag games which do not expire, go print those out before you go here. The bowling game seemed reasonably priced on its own though, but why not get a free game?
