The State Room

Reviewing concert venues is a tough gig. It's always hard to separate the space from the event. Or, in my case, the space AND the excellent event from crescendi of human idiocy breaking like tsunami waves intent on drowning out all that is pleasingly sonorous.
Seriously, troglodytes, turn off your damn phones for two hours.
Save your inane chatter for the drive home; everything you have to say will still be just as pointless then.
So, whistling loudly is your only identifiable skill? We get it, now stop showing it off.
And that song you love so much ... the one whose title you keep bellowing even though we're only two tunes into the first set ... perhaps the performer will play it in the course of his carefully planned show. If not, perhaps the encore might be a suitable time for your asshattery, though why any musician would return for more of your vocal stylings is a mystery.
The State Room cannot fix the human problem, but it can offer you a delicious beverage and a Mormon church style pew to make you comfortable while you fantasize about the coming plague.

great venue for shows

I've only been to The State Room once, but I was so pleased that I immediately purchased tickets to two other shows.  I was supposed to go to the first show with the husband, but some bad communication on my part meant that his band was playing downtown and I had 2 tickets for a Friday night...what to do?  Go to the show at The State Room of course!  Since I was by myself, the general admission was great (and if you show up early enough, you can pick a seat that is pretty much perfect for band viewing and, if you're as tired as I was that night, an early-ish departure without disrupting anyone).  I can't wait to see the next two bands; definitely one of my SLC favorites now.
