The State Theatre

Sweet venue! It's an old movie theater that's been converted to a concert venue. When you walk in, there are two bars to grab drinks from. (And depending on the show you might not have a long wait if all the other concertgoers are under 21...score!) Didn't use the restrooms but they are conveniently located and didn't look too crowded at any point (but I did leave before the band finished).

The venue is smallish, but it's inside and air-conditioned which is a plus. It does get hot quickly once the bands start though. And, the thing that perplexed me most was the smokiness on-stage. Not cigarette smoke, because I didn't really smell that or see anyone smoking, but I also didn't see smoke effects. But it got smoky to where it was hard to see the band when the full lights were flashing on stage. Weird. But it was an excellent show and I enjoyed the venue. Get there early to choose your spot!

It's been a while since I had been to the State Theater. I actually like this venue but mostly because of the size not the sound. I'm usually on the main floor area not far from the stage. Being that close to the stage, the sound has been fine. Besides, when you're that close to the band you're jacked anyway and not focused on whether or not you can understand every syllable.

Fast forward to the show I saw the other night. I was up on the second floor balcony area. There was a lot of reverb in this area. It took a while for my ears to adjust to the acoustics in the room, and I had a hard time hearing the lyrics. The sound was never great but it seemed better as the night went on.

Sound issue aside, as long as I like the band, I wouldn't hesitate to see a show here.

Solid place to see a show. Small & great vanatge points from all over. Bathrooms...kinds scary, but who cares? You're not there for spa treatments. Plumbing is welcome and toilet paper is great. This is a nice little spot to check out some music, great people watching & restaurants/pubs, etc around to grab pre/post show refreshments.
