When I went to school here 10+ years ago, I never went to the Statesman much because I thought it was dirty. Â Actually, that's a lie. Â I did go here, but not when I was in a state of mind where I could write a sensible review. Â Not that yelp existed at the time, but I digress.... Â I had no idea what I was missing - what an idiot I was.
I went back for a nostalgic trip last weekend before all the students were back  on campus.  Decided to eat here for lunch on a Saturday because I heard good things from a friend who has stayed in the area. Â
As another reviewer said, it was as clean as can be expected for a place that's a college dive bar. Â I ordered a cheeseburger and seasoned waffle fries and it was great - who knew?!? Â Everything was fresh and tasty - the waffle fries were kind of the bomb. Â And drafts were $1. Â ONE DOLLAR! I really don't know what more you could ask for. Â
We got 2 full lunches, a bloody mary and a beer and walked out paying less than $15. Â I miss college town pricing. Â
I love the nostalgia of coming back to Geneseo, so it might be me a little bit of reminiscing for the good old days, but I think if you want cheap lunch and a beer, you can't go wrong.
This is a 100% nostalgic review. Â Nothing about this review is up to date. Â If your in college now, a few years after you leave you'll probably look back at all the cr@ppy places you hung out like they were the greatest ever - so take this review with a grain of salt.
Back in 2001-2003 when I lived in Rochester  I used to come out to Geneseo for concerts at the Statesman and to party at the university since RIT sucked infected  donkey balls.
Who can say they saw the Blackouts and Planet Smashers play here and then went to a Blackouts house party afterwards? Â OR maybe an Amy Ryan and the Operatives show? Those were good times.
They were never too strict about IDs back then. Â Just ask someone leaving the bar for their wrist band and hold it up when you go to the bar. Â Everyone seemed to be super fu&*ed up.
Beware of the white russians. Â This is the only bar I know that had a white russian special night.
From what I remember, this place was pretty dirty but not offensive.
This is actually a bar. I really like this place. They have live music a lot of times.
They also have really good food. The garbage plate was one of my favorite. Macaroni salad with potatoes, chili, onion and a LOT of beef. And their burgers are great as well. They're HUGE. I mean, it's all heart attack inducing food, so maybe they run a sister funeral home business. But it's a great place to come on a Sunday to have a few drinks and watch the Bills lose.
They keep the place pretty clean, about as clean as you can keep a college town bar. And it's located down on court street so if you don't feel like walking up the hill, you can just drop in here for a drink.
