Yes, I love German food. I am aware of how rare it is to get legit kraut food at a great locale with impressive beer. This is it! I have more than once driven 3 hours for the sausage, kraut and schnitzel. Frankenmuth restaurant is to Taco bell as Taco Bell Is to  authentic Mexican,  Want to read that one again? Real kraut in a cool atmosphere with a staff who wants you back and is interested in your visit. Fantastic. Took my late,  kraut papa, here.
He stated that this was the real deal. Best wishes to the Stein Haus.
I have spent quite a few evenings at this establishment and could go on for a while. Â Top-notch beer selection. Â Huge beer and wine list and full bar, with the tap being an eclectic rotating selection. Â As far as the tap it changes all the time, but always expect several Michigan brews from various breweries, some German beers, with smatterings of other U.S. regional and European microbrews. Â If you want to go with bottled beer the selection is formidable. Â If you like an I.P.A., a stout or even something fruity, you can find it. Â Lindeman's Framboise is frequently on tap, which is my perfect dessert. Â Food is a variety, a little German, a little American, some other, good for a broad crowd. Â I love that I can get a classic weinerschnitzel here with hot potato salad and sauerkraut. Â Usually the same small staff here all the time. Â Dig the atmosphere with the all-wood decor and steins on the walls. Â If I'm in Bay City and can't think of where to go, this always tops the short list.
Review Source:If you're looking for a good time with great beer, this is your go-to Bay City bar. The atmosphere is wonderful; you're transported to what feels like a basement full of interesting antiques. I love the dim lighting and beautiful old piano.
The beer is always top notch. Something new to try every time. The service is fantastic. Usually the same 3 or 4 bartenders. They're more of experienced professionals and are helpful.
It can get pricey here... I recommend staying for only a beer or two. FYI a pitcher of Hooegarten is almost $20. Ha.
Loved it! So glad I made it to this restaurant for lunch while in Bay City. It's very authentic, with old school German stein mugs everywhere and a big open floor plan. Nice beer selection -- with local Michigan brews, German beers and plenty of other options in between. We came here with a couple of my bf's relatives, each of us started out with soups and/or salads and their homemade herb butter with the rolls was a nice touch. I tried the Stein Haus Schnitzel (of course) and it was awesome -- their red cabbage was excellent and the warm potato salad was soooo good. Entree salads also looked good, and I tasted the bratwurst, yum! If/when I'm back near Bay City again, this place will definitely be on my list of restaurants to return to.
Review Source:If you love a good beer (and not the tepid water most people call beer) this the ONLY place in Bay City to be. Food is provided by the Atrium which is next door, only problem is that is service can be slow, but from what I understand that is because the owners prefer to keep a small knowledgeable full-time staff on duty as opposed to a large part-time staff that is here one second and gone the next.
Review Source:A beer list that includes Dragonmead Final Absolution helps make this a 5-star beer hall, as does the incredible stein collection that hangs from the ceiling. And with a genial bartender like Denay, you have a winner. Â I have to admit that I've never been here when it's busy, so I can't vouch for the slow service. Â Not a place to watch a game (no tv's). Strictly old world here, and I'm glad they are still around.
Review Source:Nice atmosphere. Â Great beer selection, cozy place. Â
The staff seemed indifferent. Â A bartender yawned in my face when asked what was on tap. Â A waitress seemed too busy to really be helpful.
Also, it looked like an owner/manager's kid was hanging out at the bar. She was maybe 10-12 yo. Â Mom was wasted and was pouring her own beer and went into the cooler once. Kid just sat there. Weird.
My one experience with the Stein Haus was mixed. Â The atmosphere is great, with lots of German treasures on display, and the food was good. Â Service was extremely slow and I saw our waitress get trapped behind the bar several times. Â Even so, I'd be willing to give it another try when I'm in Bay City again.
Review Source:I think this is one of the best bars in all of BC. Inventive becuase you wouldn't usually associate "German" and BC together. Perfect though. They certainly have an extensive beer menu to fufill any palette. I miss Tommy V's in this location, but Stein Haus also has some pretty good food. Ideal location as well.
Review Source:Great Bay City bar for those who like to avoid the typical Midland Street bars that most people in the area flock to. I really like inside of this establishment as it's filled with a lot of original German themed items, along with a good selection of foreign and domestic beers. Overall it's a pretty good place to hang out on a Friday night or grab a beer after work.
Review Source:I love the Stein Haus! Â They have a few Dragonmead brews on tap at all times and will also always have a few high quality international and American beers on tap. Â I don't drink wine, but from the looks of it they have a really good wine selection too. Â It's a very nice change of pace from the typical Bay City bar. Â The bar is connected to The Atrium restaurant, so you can order some really great food while you're enjoying your beer or wine! Â I recommend this place to anyone who is a real beer drinker!
