A space that is both wide and deep, with a handful of pool tables. People speak highly of the beer selection, and so I will follow their lead. A bunch of fairly uncomfortable seats and dart boards. Nothing is wrong with this bar but it feels nevertheless like a huge smoky pasture full of dickheads. Ususally fairly full, but as it's a large space you can maintain a full hula-hoop's circumference of personal space around you if you only try a little. A good place for you if the edgiest thing you've ever done is buy a Foo Fighters CD.
Review Source:Cool little bar in Shreveport...off the beaten path...pretty roomy locale and could easily accomodate a band if they do live music....matter of fact I think every now & then they do...I recall recently they had Dash Rip Rock in for a show...
Wide open space, 3-4 pool tables and elevated area where they have several dartboards....plenty of pub tables scattered about and a long bar with plenty of chairs....
Serves a good drink and the beer selection, both bottle and tap, is extensive....this place is cool to hang and enjoy some drinks and carry on some conversation with friends...
If you feel like getting out of the immediate downtown area of Shreveport head a few blocks out and hit this place...I have a feeling you'll like it!!
One of my absolute favorite places in Shreveport. Great place for friends to just have a good time without being in a crowded scene. I'm into big bars and prefer the ones that know you by name and Strange Brew def does that. They have a great drink selections, staff, and overall just an awesome place to relax and have a little fun.
Review Source:Nice spot, good variety of brew. Spacious, no accidentally bumping into people. None of the brews are on tap, that sux, I really don't like my Guinness poured out of a can but, that may be just me. Â Staff is cool, haven't experienced a rowdy crowd. Â Caught a band once, DJ once and, I swear one night, no music at all....or maybe the beer was just that good. I doubt I'll become a regular but, yes, I recommend it!
Review Source:Like David M says, the place has the best collection of beer in town. It's a solid selection of domestic and international brews at awesome prices. The problem is while clearly SOMEONE appreciates and knows beer, it doesn't seem to be any of the bartenders I've ever had. One guy suggested freaking Blue Moon to a girl as a "darker" beer than Coors Lite, without a trace of humor or irony. Most of the people that come in this place, I'm sure, wouldn't know the difference between a lager or an ale or an IPA or a Belgian witt beer, but you should at least cover your bases and have knowledgeable bartenders. If you have Ayinger, La Fin Du Monde, La Chouffe, or Westmalle in the cooler, you sure as hell ought to at least know how to pronounce them. None of the dudes I've ever encountered have any worthwhile suggestions for me, and usually just seem confused by any requests for recommendations. I guarantee they haven't tasted most of the beers, and a lot of times don't even know where the hell the beers even ARE in the cooler.
And, I feel like I should just say, I'm definitely not waltzing in with a beer snob attitude. I really, really do like the selection. Sometimes I'd just like to try something different. And let's also face it: most people do not assume a chick is going to know anything about beer. So I've got a stereotype working for me, where the guys probably automatically assume I know next to nothing. So MAYBE they're figuring they don't want to bother with me, assuming I'm your run of the mill ditz. But if that's the case, then eff this place, seriously. So we only have two possibilities: the guys are brushing me off, or they just don't know anything. Neither possibility is that great, you know?
I appreciate the fact that this is here, and that it has a good selection. I'd just appreciate it more if the people tasked with selling it and serving it were a little bit better. Anyone can, with a little practice, pour a Guinness correctly, or mix a strong vodka tonic. But when you stock your bar with such carefully selected craft beers, you need someone with a bit more finesse behind the bar.
Hahaha!!! I laugh as I write this because of funny memories of Strange Brew. It does not have the best scenery or mixed drinks, but there is a laid back vibe with the crowd there and plenty of space to move around in. Also, the music is usually never too loud to hear the person next to you.
If you feel like going to a casual neighborhood bar with a lot of beer selections, this would be a good pick.
This place gets a good rating only because of the beers it has on stock. Â It has probably one of the best, if not the best, collection of beer in a Shreveport/Bossier Bar. Â The prices aren't bad and they always have specials. Â Great place in North LA to get all the Abita products. Â Downsides to this place is it is always smokey. Â Also, the music is too loud. Â Make sure you have your ID, cause no matter how old you look, grey hairs or not, they won't let you in with out one.
