5 Stars for Studio 99 and Elise McDonald and the jam hosts.  Bob Pope is there for the Bluegrass jam on the 3rd Wed, and is friendly and includes everyone in the fun. The Django jam on the 3rd Thu. hosted by John Brobst, who plays great piano , bass, and even drums. Garrett Partridge shares the floor, and helps out on other instruments besides his mainstay, guitar, at the Blues night on the 4th Wed.. Livinstone Pherr brings a strong sense of authenticity to the Brasil jam on the 4th Thu. and shows us that Jobim is far from the only great song writer from the country that brings us more great Latin music than any place on Planet Earth.  Elise co-hosts this night and adds some great flute solos to the mix.  The Acoustic Jam on the 2nd Wed. is always a fun night, and Amy Conley is ready to sing and play whatever folk tune comes out of the hat.  There are also great bands to be hear on Saturday,  and much teen talent shows up on Friday.  I am hoping to host an acoustic/electric jam in the near future,  which will add some guitar/other solos to the vocals on songs from the past and present.

The best live music venue in Nashua!

I ran into Elise MacDonald a couple years ago, and she's one of the people actively working in the Nashua area to create a more vibrant arts and music scene. She's done that by creating an actual physical presence and offering musical instruction. Over the past several months it's since grown to include music performances from local and traveling musicians. She's got a great attitude, and it's catching on.

Although I'm not a musician, I'm innately curious about music and have attended several of the Studio 99 events to see what they would be like. I've found the experience to be very authentic and down-to-earth. The people who I've seen perform in this space, be it a jam night or a touring band, all love to play. It amazes me how they can just start playing in front of a bunch of strangers, and I think partly it's because the space itself strikes the right balance between performance area and practice room. Elise and her colleagues also are down-to-earth and musically talented themselves, so the vibe is also exactly right if you are there for music.

Elise and Studio 99 get 5 stars from me for their welcoming attitude, though there are aspects of the physical space itself that you should be aware of. While the building itself--an old mill building hosting a number of artists and small businesses--is quite charming, the studio is located on the top floor of the building. It's difficult to find at night if you are not familiar with the area, though there is a helpful sign out by the road to show you where it is. Dress light in the summertime as it can get pretty warm.

I can't think of a neater space in the area where you can get close to the roots of music performance and share in the experience.
