Where Demetrio El Taquero De La 46 fulfills my back home taco craving, Super Tortas is my favorite place to go when I'm itching for a torta (huge Mexican sandwich). I'm all for tortas of milanesa (breaded steak) loaded with the good stuff, then drizzle some green salsa on every bite. Feeling really hungry? Try the Super Cubana challenge! Finish 3 Super Cubana tortas and win $100. Had a coworker try and failed miserably, maybe you'll have better luck?
Food: 5/5
Location: 4/5 - very much a hole in the wall, but who doesn't love that?
Service: 5/5
I described this eatery as a 'hole in the wall' as I was rallying coworkers to try a torta for the first time with me for lunch. Don't worry--said coworkers enjoy trying out-of-the-ordinary, off-the-main-drag restaurants, so believe it or not, this was not meant negatively, but more as a way of getting them on board! Plus, I repeated several times what I had read on the side of the building time after time--"the best tortas in Indianapolis."
Success! Everyone who joined really enjoyed it. We were greeted by a couple friendly folks working diligently behind the counter in this rather warm, small shop (on a 100 degree day, I was glad we had already decided to get the sandwiches to go and eat them back at the office). We all thought it was a quaint, little place. The employees were eager to help us decide which sandwich to try, telling us which were the most popular choices. I went with #4--ham, chorizo, and mozzarella cheese. The sandwiches come with avocado, mayo and tomato, and jalapenos, which I chose to do without. Good choice for me; the chorizo has just the right amount of heat for me.
As newcomers to the world of tortas, those in my lunch group commented on the great tasting bun and the wonderful flavor of the chorizo. The sandwiches were fairly big and made for a meal in themselves. Not bad for $6. One coworker tried the Hawaiian variety, complete with pineapple, ham and cheese and really liked it. Next time, Hawaiian it is for me!!
The Super Torta shop is an eclectic gem that makes Speedway a  little brighter place.  Now, I've never experienced a torta sandwich before coming to Super Tortas, but I have to say that this IS the place to be introduced to such a delicacy! Â
All sorts of delicious smoked pork legs, seared steak, and cheeses - it's unlike anything else. Â If you're over-conciseness about sodium, fat, cholesterol, deep-fried things, and head-cheese: this is not the place for you. Â That being said, I usually enjoy a Super Torta about once a year.
The service is fast, the food is tasty, parking can be troublesome, but all in all, a great place to to indulge when visiting Speedway, IN. Â Try the 'Super Cuban', good luck!
