We have never been disappointed. Fries are the best in our town. The food is always fresh. Best burgers in town, the kids never vary from them. Unique atmosphere that is comfy and fun. All they need is a pizza oven and it would be perfect.
Service is fast and friendly. Finally a good place in Y.C.

Nice little brew pub, clean, in a converted garage. Salads and greens were fresh and dressing also good. Brown ale was bland but strength in their IPA's. good bite to  their recipes

Beer is mediocre at best. Service was horrible. The fries were ok but it's hard to screw up fries. I wouldn't recommend this place to any of my friends because it's not worth the drive from Sacramento.

    Ok, time for an update.

I've gone here several times (quite a few more than my check-ins show), and I always order the same thing - 1/2 pound blues burger with garlic fries and a hard cider. The cider is always good. The burger, eh, I finally realized I need to order the bbq sauce on the side and dip it to keep everything from getting so soggy the bun disintegrates. There's also a variable on the amount of bleu cheese. The garlic fries have never been as good as they were the first time. I rarely get any garlic at all. Big time bummer, even when I ask for extra garlic. And often times they're not hot. The service has been really hit and miss. About a month ago our server was clearly high out of her mind on something I couldn't exactly place, but she was not making sense and mumbling, stumbling around. Our server last night was sweet, but obviously new. She didn't know whether the burgers were on a Kaiser roll or just a regular hamburger bun, bless her little heart. Not sure if I'll ever be back, which is sad.

I really do like this place, the fish tacos are really great and the burgers always look amazing.  They have a pretty good selection of their beer and I am excited to see where the restaurant goes under new ownership.

Okay Beer and bad food. Ordered onion rings and they were soggy! How can a brewery not be able to cook onion rings?

I need to find a new place to stop in Yuba City.

still overall good but the prices keep going up.  They are still competitive but most items have gone up $3-4 since we first ate here.    As the prices go up though they may need to start using regular size plates since it isn't cheap bar food anymore.

Also, had the Reuben sandwich last night and it had a lot of fat on the meat, not marbled in the meat but just stringy and attached to it.  Couldn't bite through the larger chunks which made it awkward with a mouth full of a bite of sandwich that I couldn't separate from the sandwich.   Not sure how they didn't see a clump of stringy tough fat that large on the meat as they cooked it and cut it to put in on the sandwich as both sides had that.  Had to use a knife to cut it free.  Came the closest I've ever come to sending something back to the kitchen.   Not what I expect for a $10 sandwich.

Of all the beers I tried here (all of them) the Brown was the best by far. The food seems almost to be an after thought. Not great.
Some of the beers tasted sort of tanky, and stale. They had 4 beers when I was here but I see that they rotate often. The staff is super nice.

I took my mom to Sutter Buttes Brewing a while ago for the first time.  I can honestly say that were were really impressed with the food.  I ordered the fish sandwich and it tasted really really good.  It's deep fried cod on french bread.  Yum!  My mom ordered the pub burger and we both loved it.  If it's not the best restaurant burger in Yuba City then I don't know what is.  You really can't go wrong with eiter item we got.  For our fires we both ordered the Thai fries. They tasted good and I'd order them again.

I've come here with my co-workers for lunch a few times and the food is delicious. I recommend the chicken wrap with some garlic fries, very yummy! The service is kind of slow, but the staff is super nice. Haven't tried any of the beer, but I did have some cider around Christmas time and I loved it. I will definitely be a repeat customer.

Had dinner here last night with my Husband, and wow! Really couldn't believe that we were in Yuba City eating at a nice brewery. Love the atmosphere and the location, steps away from downtown but not in the mix. The service was great as well as the food. Not much on the menu is priced over $10 and the beer is super yummy! Can't believe this is the first time we have tried this place, will definitely be repeat customers.

Beer is great service is horrible and the food is average. There were 2 other couples and myself waiting to be seated for about 5 minutes, no one was there to greet us or sit us down. There were a couple of empty tables so some drunk guy at the bar told us to seat our selves so we did and it took about 10 minutes to take our order for drinks and about 35-40 minutes to get food.

Had the roast beef sandwich and a couple classes of the stout. Very yummy. Service was spot on. Only issue with this visit was the the heat did not seem to be working that evening. Hope to visit this place again.

We had been wanting to stop in for so long.. finally did yesterday for our Date lunch. The waitress Amanda was so nice and on top of everything. She knew the products and gave suggestions.. she was great! The place is a little small but that does add to the appeal. The food was amazing! Blue Cheese burger was great.. and my fav is the Thai fries! OMG I will be back for sure.. if nothing else just to get those Thai fries! This is a great place and I totally recommend it!

The Sutter Buttes Brewery is a wonderful place. The beer is great. I recommend the mocha stout. Great combination with the roast beef sandwich! Best food I have had in Yuba for a long time! :)

I write this review with the most sincere hope that it is received constructively. We are so happy to have Sutter Buttes Brewing in Yuba City and they are putting out some mighty fine beer. Since our first visit around the time they opened they have come miles with their menu and the decor, friendly helpful staff and atmosphere is everything you want in a neighborhood brewery. The ambitious flavor combos on the menu are really inspired.
First off, the fries (Thai in particular) are amazing. We could be happy eating those every day of the week. After fries I ordered the wedge hog, a beef (?) brisket sandwich on foccacia. This sandwich has a lot of potential but the fillings were way to big for the tiny pieces of focaccia and the brisket was so tough I really couldn't eat it as a sandwich. By husband ordered fish tacos. They were beautiful but lacked any sauce at all (fried fish, cabbage, cheese and tomatoes). He said it was easy to tell that they used some kind of frozen battered fish filet but even despite that he said even some lime and sour cream would have made all the difference. As they were it was just to dry and lacked flavor.  He ended up dipping the tacos in the Thai fries sauce and enjoyed them.
Like I said, I really want these guys to make it. I love the ambition and atmosphere. There is so much potential and the issues with the food can be so easily remedied. Yuba City so badly needs more establishments like this and I will happily support them.

Tried this place twice, once when it first opened and then a few weeks ago. Wow, what a difference a year makes! The menu is greatly expanded and the prices are reasonable. The collection of fries alone will get me back in there (the Thai fries were great). Although the beer selection in limited, it was all well crafted and tasted great. The Helles was good enough for me to buy a growler full and take it to a 4th of July BBQ. Service is okay, but is improving. The staff needs a little more beer knowledge. Its s nice little local place and I am glad for the menu improvements and will go back for sure. Oh, and as for the live music; not really for me. The artists were "interesting" to say the least playing oldie style stuff. Bring in some local, more contemporary artists and it would help the atmosphere. Overall a nice place to try some good brew!

Sutter Buttes is a comfy little microbrewery in the Yuba City/Marysville area. It's still rather new and thus a bit green, but it has great potential. OK beers and pretty yumtastic apps & entrees.

Our party got almost every fry plate they offered (thai, potato, garlic, etc), 2 wings plates and 2 different burgers, and they were all pretty delish. The beers were good... not fantastic but not bad (AVOID the Nixie, it's so damn sweet it's like drinking beer syrup). Thumbs up for the spacious yet cozy atmosphere, the great classic rock music playing on the overhead system, and the pleasant if not terribly fast service. I even bet the beers will get better with time.

I was quite happy to see that the Y-S area finally had a microbrewery, but have been rather disappointed.  The beer is ok-fair at best and the food is about the same.  Nothing is truly bad, but neither is it great.

I've given it 4 tries to this point only to be mildly disappointed each time.  Being a craft beer fan, I like to be kicked in the mouth from time to time, which none of what they offer does, unfortunately.  Nothing very hoppy, just...bland.

Kind of what I've come to expect in this area, being a life-long resident...fair at best and great at nothing...Our community wonders why locals spend their money out of the area. It's called QUALITY and VARIETY.

But hey, their logo looks cool.

To say I was unimpressed with this place would be putting it mildly. First off, the music is terrible. It made me want to drink the beer as fast as I could to leave and escape it and one should never feel rushed in craft beer consumption. It's the kind of old soft rock you hear on the 4th of July at BBQ's and rodeos. The servers were friendly and personable but could be more efficient and attentive.

Now for the nitty-gritty, the beer. I sampled the mocha porter, the kolsch ale and the golden ale. The golden ale is okay, the kolsch is really good, and the mocha porter is unremarkable and I am a porter gal. Speaking of unremarkable, the food was just that. When first reviewing the menu, the prices were so affordable. Then you taste the food and see why. I ordered the Mediterranean sandwich ($5.75) which was bland and the feta was barely there. The Thai fries were smothered in an overly sweet sauce. It pains me to rank brewing establishments so low, but when the experience is as lackluster as mine was here, I must fulfill my Yelp duty.

    I'm torn between 3 and 4 stars...

Service is very friendly and quick.
Not many beer selections, we had four options at the time. No IPAs or anything dark except a porter.
A lot of the food is priced really well and I was delighted to have several vegetarian options. My Mediterranean Panini was delicious and fresh, but my fiance was not a fan of his Pub Burger (maybe he is just spoiled with Flaming Grill in Sacramento).
All in all, 3 stars for a nice experience.

I'm contemplating adding a star solely for the Thai Fries.
For just $3.50 we got a heaping plate of spicy, saucy, crispy fries. They were great! I will be back for those, and hopefully some different beers!

My friend and I wandered in here around 2 P.M. one day after deciding to try somewhere new.

When we walked in, we realized we were the only customers. (Not a complaint, just  an observation.) We took a seat by the window, and were greeted quickly after.

I ordered the chicken wrap, while my dining partner got the chicken club. We also split an order an fries, since our food didn't come with any. My chicken wrap was good, and the order of fries we were splitting was MASSIVE. Between the two of us, we couldn't finish the plate!

Our waitress was very attentive throughout the meal, without being overbearing. We were able to get to-go boxes and pay quickly without feeling rushed.

Oh... and did I mention the beer? They have a small selection of beers that they brew themselves. I'm not a big beer drinker, but I hear good things about them.

I'm rooting for this place to succeed!

Hats off to Sutter Buttes Brewing for making a proper liquid souvenir of my hometown. I'm really just impressed that this place exists in Yuba City. I'll give any place that aspires to anything better than mediocrity in YC extra points.

Anyway, I recommend ordering the sweet potato fries with Thai seasonings, it really adds something. The Watertower IPA was the stand-out beer of the tasting, and the stout was quite nice; I wasn't very impressed with the Just Another IPA or the Riley's Red.

They have only been open for a year and are producing some pretty decent beers. Hopefully, the locals will continue to support their brewery.  Located right in downtown the brewpub/restaurant is cozy with wooden chairs and a wooden bar that surrounds the tanks.  The don't have tap handles to pour their beer, they get it right out of the tanks it seemed. The sampler include:

    Lite Stout
    Just Another IPA
    Riley's Red
    Extra Pale Ale
    Water Tower IPA

All very aromatic and really a nice surprise. I'm sorry to say I didn't have the highest hopes for this place. The food was another great addition. The burgers were good, but the fries stood out. We ordered thai fries with sweet chili sauce, jalapenos, Sriracha and cilantro. Delicious! Staff was also great. I wish this new brewery the best.

Though we don't drink beer, my wife and I have had good luck finding above average food at brewhouses and pubs on our travels. This time was no different. We happened upon this small brewery/eatery while looking for another restaurant nearby and decided to give it a try -- and we were glad that we did!

They have a modest menu of standard fare, but it was very tasty and inexpensive. The Belgian fries were excellent -- as was the sandwich that we shared. Everything was very flavorful and the portions were fairly large. The staff were all friendly and accommodating. The only downside was that it could've been cleaner. All things considered, it was an excellent choice for a couple of hungry travelers from L.A.

A ok is a good review........ Stopped in to this small restaurant / micro brewery.....

Staff was nice.... Didn't try any of the food... But if we were in the area, we would come back for lunch...

They have 5 or 6 types of beer that they brew...

    Overall, not bad....

Very good beer, food and atmosphere. This is not a sports bar and that's a good thing IMHO.
The pub burger had great flavor, wife loved the chicken wrap and the fries are great. The beer selection is good but I do see how people could be upset if they run out of a favorite. The double IPA was gone but they had their Red Ale so all was good.

I agree, the haters should be ignored. Also, the people that have a problem finding the restrooms should maybe stay in their houses and not venture out into public... it's not that big of a place.

The only negative things I can say, it gets a little warm in there as the day heats up, the owner is working on that small issue. And, some of the staff need work on their customer service skills.

In general, a great place that should get even better with time and worth the drive for someplace new. Support local businesses....

I"ll be frank, I didn't even know this place existed until last night. Went here with a couple of friends and I was pleasantly surprised. The food was tasty, the service was good and the beer was yummy. I had the chicken strips and they were obviously hand-made (not that frozen in a bag kind). I had a "Shandi" to drink which is half been half lemonade. So good! The food came out hot and quick and our waitress was attentive and nice. My only complaint was they (as of now) have no air conditioning or ceiling fans. Our waitress told us they would be installing some fans in a month. Sooooo, I'll be back in a month. It was insanely hot inside and I can't imagine going back until they have some fans or something.
Good food, very good prices, definitely worth checking out if you're looking for something different.

I didn't really care for this place.  Beers are OK. Food is unique.

I didn't mind coming in here for a beer on a nice afternoon and even brought my boyfriend back with me once more so he could try it out too.; so it can't be all that bad.  Both times I went there it was about 1:30, both times they were already sold out of their daily soup.  It must be as popular as thier servers and bartenders are.

When I went to use the bathroom (while I found them clean) it was a miracle I found them at all.  I had to walk through what felt like the back of the kitchen and then by the "back".  It kind of reminded me of what using the bathroom at the grocery store during the 80's felt like.  You know, like you were getting to see the underbelly of the market? The side you're not supposed to see?  My childlike imagination came flooding back to me.

I liked the IPA and the Red the best.  The pale ale and the extra pale ale tasted almost identical to one another to me.  The chocolate porter wasnt bad, but I'm not a dark beer drinker, so much as I am a hoppy beer drinker.  That's probably a big reason why I didn't care for this place.  I expect hoppier flavors in an IPA, and from any microbrew at all for that matter and I'm hardly an expert or anything close (just a picky picky princess).  They do not have the IBU's or ABV's posted anywhere and when I asked my bartender about it he looked at me like I was speaking Japanese. I asked someone else and got the ABV eventually.   I brushed it off pretty easily as I did watch that poor kid pour my beer and he didn't seem to know too much about that either.

No need to listen to the haters who have weighed in thus far.
Made the trek from Sacramento after trying several of their offerings at beer week events -- and it's worth the 40-minute drive to get more.
The Kolsch is honestly the best one I've ever tried outside of Koln, Germany, which many other brewers have tried and failed to recreate. The day we dropped in they had six brews and a rotating tap of Sacramento ciders from Two Rivers, Rubicon, etc. The extra pale ale is also delicious -- but they're all good.
They offer a sampler of four pours for $6, so we tried them all, including the chocolate porter, IPA, Sutter Wheat (creamy, German-style weissbier) and Riley's Red.
Ordered the fish tacos and Belgian frites, and everything was quite tasty, and offered at ridiculously reasonable prices.
They did a great job with decor -- from the awesome light fixtures and copper bar to the stained concrete floors. Our servers were very sweet and attentive, and willing to humor us peppering them with a million questions. (We hear growlers are in the works!) Also, it must be noted that their logo is killer.
Although it's in a small town, this place completely stands up to the beer-centered joints in Sacto, in many cases surpassing them entirely. Looking forward to coming back, bringing friends and seeing this place really thrive.

SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BREWERY!!!  I live in Sacramento but heard a new brewery had opened in the area and had to check it out.  I was impressed and when back in Yuba City will stop in.
I had the IPA.  It is delicious.  A fantastic English-style IPA.  Good hop balance, earthy, with a nice malty smoothness.  Excellent beer.
As a home brewer, it was really cool to see all of their equipment displayed, from the copper kettles to the fermentation tanks to the huge beer vessels with the taps.  I have never seen a set up like that before.  Pretty wild.
Did not eat there.  I have heard from friends that the food is great.
A nice place.  Great to have a pint or bring the family.  The gals behind the bar were very friendly and pretty knoweledgable about the beer.
If you live in the Yuba City area, or are on a "beer trip" to Sierra Nevada, make sure you stop in and support Sutter Buttes Brewing.

I really really want this place to succeed.  Unfortunately Yuba City residents DO NOT support local businesses very well and I'd like to see a place last longer than a year.  (Y.C. seems to be a big fan of chain restaurants.)

This place definitely has room for improvement.  But the few beers they have are good, prices are excellent, food is decent.  It was the first day on the job for the server we had, but he did pretty well, especially for our party of six.

A few suggestions, it was way too bright.  Pubs, bars, etc need to have lower lighting.  They also need to get something on the walls to look at.  Super bright lighting with bare white walls...ech.  Maybe ok in a doctor's office.

But a few minor cosmetic changes, and this place will be 5 stars!

Great burger. They had a special for $8.00. Bacon, BBQ, blue cheese burger. It was yummy. (It also had onion rings).

Fries were extra ($2.50 I think). Big plate of them, but they needed more salt for my liking. Came with a zesty BBQ sauce that was great.

Pale Ale was good. The waitress didn't know what kind of beer she had on tap. I had to turn around and read the only big sign they had on the wall. That was kind of lazy of her.

Overall, great place. I agree with others that it is a bit too pricey for pub food and the service is seriously lacking, but it was still good food.

Not to bad. Slightly bland but clean. The T.V.s are few hard to see from some seats so if beer and the game is your plan get there early.

I didnt try the food but I the menu looked boring and the cooks looked stressed. But I know how hard it is to find good cooks in this town.

The wheat beer was good and the red was ok. Over priced at $4.50 a glass.

I will give it another shot to try the food, but I dont see it becoming a favorite.

After hearing how crappy this place was I had to see for myself.  I was surprised how ordinary it looked inside after how many years it took to ope the place.  The only neat part was the open brewery part where they make the ONLY 4 flavors of beer.  disappointing.....

On to the food.  I sent my burger back once and the person looked at me like "well what do you want me to do about it"  "maybe I can get that fixed for you"  Secondly, I ordered it Med Rare (means pink inside for those of you who don't know).  The burger the second time shows up and looks not to bad.  To my disappointment it was like taking a bite of raw and I mean RAW meat.  Are you people trying to make me sick??!?!

The service was not really there or really trained in the art of serving people.  The walls were blank, there were 2 tv's mounted almost of the celling and the dinning chairs and tables looked like cheap patio furniture.

I am sorry, but Yuba City failed to do it again on the so called Pub, Brewery, Sports Bar.  I would rather go to the Happy Viking and thats not even saying to much or better some place in Sacramento that is 100 times better.  Sutter Buttes brewing, you failed....

I wanted to say a previous reviewer did it justice for the 1st review of this place.  My experience was just as crappy.  The person I ate lunch said also agreed with this review.  I wish I could have given it 0 stars....

Forgive me, all, for the nascent review is a less-than-favorable one...

My party arrived late-afternoon, "off"-hours, by all standards. The place was amply staffed, yet service was nowhere to be found. I got the inklingfrom the chattery that impeded our being served that the five other parties there were friends and/or family of wait and management staff; ditto to the three parties that entered after us and were waited on BEFORE us. Ughhh. Flagrant food-service faux pas.

Now, all of the above-referenced mishaps can be atoned for with good food. No such luck. I ordered a garden salad to preface inevitable snacking at the movie theater to follow, and when said salad arrived, everyone at the table snickered. The bowl was all of four inches in diameter; the "salad" was nothing more than a baby-rabbit fistful of bagged greens. And for five bucks. Really?? REALLY. The other entrees ordered by my party were laughable, as well: soggy, flavorless fries, overcooked and completely undressed burgers; the "grilled tacos" were rubbery, uncooked corn tortillas with unseasoned spoonfuls of ground beef. To add insult to appetite-blunting injury, the dishes weren't cheap. And all of the brewery staples were amiss: Pizza, onion rings, garlic fries, fish & chips, even pasta, the essentials that are so hard to screw up--unless deliberately.

As for the brews, there are...*drumroll* two to choose from. Two. In their defense, it is opening weekend. I get that. But a new business with an exciting premise for small-town standards should be hitting the ground running, not lazily sauntering.

I'm seldom in YC anymore, but I sincerely hope this place irons its many kinks out.
