3 words - YUM, YUM, YUM! I cant help it, I have to give Swadley's 5 stars. First of all, I love the atmosphere; rustic and fun! Everything is set up so that you can look at the menu long before you reach the person up front who takes the orders. Usually there is a line but the wait is not too long. You place your order, take a number to your table and a short time later a friendly server appears with baskets of tasty treats including tender brisket and of course ribs. There is a salad bar too and free ice cream cones for desert. Never a shortage of condiments and buttery Texas toast, try the Grumpys BBQ sauce, they have about 4 different kinds. BTW, did I mention all the sides are home made?
Review Source:I've used the drive through several times, and have never had a bad experience.
The food is delicious, not life-changing, but quality Q. Sliced brisket and sausage are my standbys if I want a quick plate because they have yet to let me down on those. Sides are always done well also.
Staff that I encounter at the window are pretty cool and get my food out in a timely manner, so I really have no gripes with service at all. May have to dine in at some point just to see how that goes.
If you're in a rush and on this side of OKC, give it a shot.
Nothing is better than some good ole' BBQ.
This place was great the first time we ate here. It was ok the second time.
Maybe the excitement wore off, but the second time the food wasn't as great as the first.
So far me and my friends have ordered everything on the menu.
The brisket is great, it tasted a bit more dry on the second visit, but good on the first.
The catfish leaves something to be desired for.
The arrangement of pickles is very cool. Just a nice array of things to nibble on.
Waitresses here are very friendly.
I like them a lot.
This place had some pretty good BBQ. Â A friend brought me here and suggested the Ultimate, aka the Involuntary-Manslaughter-by-Coronary sandwich.
Roast beef, roast pork, chicken, bacon, and cheddar cheese piled high with no vegetables in sight is sure to put you in the ICU, but it was pretty darn good. Â They gave us some BBQ sauces to try at the table, but I didn't care for any of them so I ate the sandwich dry, which was fine. Â No complaints with the fries, overall the meal was pretty good.
The interior is kind of cheesy, like someone turned a barn inside out, but the waitstaff was very friendly and fast and the experience was good.
If you're in Mustang, there aren't a lot of choices for BBQ which is unfortunate because Swadley's is about as average as average can be. I'm a drive thru only customer who's eaten there 25+ times due to lack of choices, and it's always ok. It's too expensive, the staff is rude (specifically in the drive thru), the size of the sides is embarrassing, and the food is very inconsistent. You're definitely better served looking elsewhere while hoping Mustang gets a decent BBQ place.
Review Source:Don't get me wrong, the food is good. As a drive through only customer I often experience rude staff and varying fullness of side orders half full at times full at others. My most memorable experience was the window staff telling me thats not what I ordered as she does not get orders wrong. I swore never to go back after that but have returned a couple of times. It seems like the owners care too bad they can't instill that in their staff.
Review Source:If you "eat at the barn" expect to be treated like an animal and not a valued customer.
Ribs came out "cold & rubbery". Orders were incorrect. Alot of teenage horseplay from the staff.
After the poor service and atmosphere of feeling like we were in a high school gymnasium instead of a family restaurant, my family and I will no longer be patrons or advocates for anything affiliated to Swadley's BBQ.
I've got to get back into the Yelp habit. Â I have to admit it is a bit difficult, because having recently moved back to the OKC area, I find myself comparing everything to the Austin area, including my old haunts! Â Well, the ones that remain that is. Â And who wants to see a bunch of "Eh, this is the best it gets...around here at least" reviews?
That said, I'm going to try my best not to do that, and Swadley's does help a bit in that department. Â Is it Texas BBQ? Â Well...no. Â So ok, we got that out of the way right up front. Â Is it good BBQ? Â Yes. Â Is there a great selection of sides? Â Yes. Â If you eat in the restaurant, do you get free ice cream after your meal? Â Yes. Â Do they have a variety of BBQ sauces (which are optional, if you are the "NO SAUCE EVAR!!!!111" type? Â Yes. Â Personal favorite...the sandwich sauce. Â Seriously, not sure what they make that stuff out of, but when they ask you what sauce you want, tell them the sandwich sauce. Â Come to think of it, order the sandwich. Â The ultimate BBQ sandwich is WONDERFUL. Â Also, try the creamed corn. Â The only thing I would change is add burnt ends to the menu. Â (Yes, I also spent time in Kansas City).
I've never had a consistently good meal here. It's been hit and miss just like most of the restaurants in Mustang. One time the brisket will be the best in the world and next time, greasy, fatty and no flavor. I've never had so many different swings in BBQ.
We keep going here though as it's the only BBQ joint in town
