I went there a month ago with a party of 8. Their happy hour specials on Thursday were great and the wine was good. The main reason I'm giving 2 stars is that they added 18% gratuity to our checks without telling us. Almost all of us didn't notice the added change so we tipped 20% on top of that and our waitress didn't mind not pointing it out. We're generous tippers typically but, I felt it was telling that it wasn't announced when our ticket was dropped. Kinda left a bad taste in the mouths of my very social group of downtown frequenters :(
Review Source:I went here with my boyfriend and 3 friends, and we had a great time. The food was amazing, the wine was outstanding (I had two glasses of their Australian shiraz) there was plenty to share between the 5 of us, and the prices were decent. My only complaint is that it was a bit noisy, but it's a small space so it's to be expected. For additional photos of the food, you can see my blog post regarding the experience here: http://www.fortuitouslyy…
Review Source:Unbelievably loud, you have to shout to be heard in this place people are clearly wanting to become their after work alternative.
The food's ok, but the tiny Margharita Pizza, for instance was over-strewn with rosemary, not to my taste. The cold-smoked salmon and shrimp mornay were served on untoasted, thin baguette slices, where crostini would have been better. The caesar was . . . well, salad. Four of us shared bites of these small plates, and we each had a couple glasses of wine. Our ticket was $120, not outrageous, and yet I felt like I needed to head somewhere else for dinner.
I just didn't like the vibe and will continue to go to the much more pleasant and less expensive Wine Time.
The service was good and the food was excellent. Fair prices, too. But with a TV on, music in the background, and fewer than 12 customers, the place was so noisy it made the experience more annoying than enjoyable. Why a baseball game needs to be on in addition to music in a room that clearly needs some acoustic dampening is beyond me. Unless they change the atmosphere, I'm not going there anymore.
Review Source:Wow.
Came here with the Girlfriend on a trip up to Chico from the City. The place seemed new and kinda swanky, and it being Saturday night I figured "What the hell, why not?" Best decision I made during my stay in Chico!
As you would expect, the wine list was thorough, but our server seemed to know it really well. After listening to us describe our opposite tastes in wine, she suggested a bottle (name escapes me) that we really enjoyed!
The food was really the main event here though. We went with the steak skewers, sliders, hummus, and croquettes. This place actually converted me on hummus. I'm not usually a fan, but it turns out when its packed with garlic and god knows what other kind of deliciousness, yes, I find hummus quite palatable! The croquettes were not to be missed, the perfect fried anchors for an evening that would see a lot of red wine. Last but certainly not least, were the steak skewers. Insane! We are still telling our friends about them weeks later. The steak itself was seasoned really well and unfortunately I think I wolfed down half of my share of our order before I noticed the bacon Gorgonzola sauce it came with. That sauce still haunts me, all my meals since have been incomplete without it.
Great thing they are going here, and certainly worth a try. Count on me stopping by Tannins for a bite any time I'm in Chico!
Just tried out Tannins for the first time on a date night with my wife. Â The wine list is not long and extensive by any means but instead is filled with a nice selection of wines, many of which are wines I purchase myself due to their great quality / price ratio. Â Seeing these wines made me excited to try the wines on the list I was unfamiliar with. Â
The menu is small and consists of small plates mainly designed for sharing. Â We tried a number of dishes but some of the highlights for us were:
Chicken Marsala Crostinis
Spicy Andouille Gumbo
Tannins Caesar
We tried a few other dishes which were well prepared and delicious as well. Â The Gumbo was very spicy and on the salty side. Â I really liked this but may not be for everyone but I sure appreciated it. Â My wife and I will be back and look forward to seeing how this restaurant grows and evolves with time but so far while in it's infancy, it is excellent.
