Awesome place- huge portions- delicious green chile- we shared the breakfast burrito which was enormous and soooo good. The coffee is shitty diner coffee, which is fine, especially because there is a great coffee shop next door!

    Two words:  Hot Chick.

No, I'm not talking about our waitress...or myself.  I'm talking about the single breakfast item that made Bryan M. and I return 3 mornings in a row during our weekend trip to Taos.

Hot Chick = Buttermilk biscuit sandwich with one sausage patty, one egg, and spicy sriracha mayo.  $3.95.

That's right, one of the most amazing breakfast sandwiches I've ever had, for under $4.  So simple, yet they absolutely nail it, made with a gigantic homemade biscuit and that delicious sriracha mayo.  It really doesn't get any better than that.

I also tried a pancake, which was as big as my head and perfectly fluffy.  On our third and final trip I decided to branch out and went with the Southwestern Breakfast: 2 eggs scrambled with spicy chorizo sausage and cheddar-jack cheese then topped with your choice of red or green chile.  I took a tip from 4square and ordered mine Christmas style, which is both red and green chile.  That's definitely the way to go, because they're both so good and completely different.  Some of the best red and green chile I've had!

Next time in Taos, please do yourself a favor and head straight to Taos Dinner and order up your very own Hot Chick....I promise you will not leave unsatisfied.

Really really slow service.  They kept apologizing for how long it was taking.  The food was fine but I would look elsewhere for a breakfast diner.

We ate at Taos Diner 2. Based on the reviews we read we were expecting quick service and a great meal. Unfortunately neither happened for us. It took about 45 minutes for our food to arrive and it was only ok. Eggs were overcooked and part of my french toast was soggy.
I wouldn't recommend this place considering all the other options in town.

I stopped by while traveling and had been looking forward to being asked red or green.  I was happy with the food and service, I'm not sure I got an authentic New Mexico experience tho. The sauces were not great or as good as the hype I had built up for New Mexico chiles, maybe I should have gone somewhere else for that.

Any-who, my boyfriend ordered a lunch burrito with chicken and red sauce and I had the veggie enchiladas with blue corn tortillas but couldn't decide on what sauce so I just ordered both on the side.  Usually I prefer the green sauce but here the red was better, the waitress even recommended the green sauce.  I was between three and four stars but this place gets bonus points for not holding back on the cheese, I love cheese :)  I also wish I could be in the area longer and try other dishes but oh well, I guess next time I'm in the area

We had breakfast there yesterday at the Taos Diner II. Staff was super friendly. Nice interior and a perfect southwest setting. Food was fast and hot. Husband got the burrito with bacon, eggs, and potatoes, and cheeses. He got the green chilies on it. He thought there were far too many potatoes in it and they overwhelmed the dish, but it was tasty. I got the Papas and Huevos with green chilies and I loved it. Our friends ordered basic eggs and bacon meals with gluten free sourdough bread. They loved their meal. Coffee was flowing and we had a delicious start to our day.

The food was delicious. The furniture and fixtures were beyond shabby.

My husband and I based our honeymoon around the Taos Diner. When we were deciding where to go, we said... "TAOS DINER!"

We waited until our last morning in Taos to have breakfast here. And you know how they say about save the best to last? This is definitely the best restaurant in Taos!

My husband! (yes, husband now!) Mr. C ordered the Combination Breakfast which is an enchilada, chile relleno, beans and two eggs on top, smothered with red or green chile sauce. Being that my husband is New Mexican, he had it with both. I would have ordered this breakfast, but I had a chile relleno every time we went out to eat in New Mexico so I was done. I did have a bite of his chile and it was cooked to perfection. It was crispy and according to Mr. C that is what defines a great relleno! In addition, they make their rellenos with monterey jack cheese... which is fantastic. I love it.

I had the same thing I had back in November, the Papas and Huevos. Basically, it is home fries covered in cheese and chile sauce. (I get the sauce on the side to regulate the spice) It also comes with a side of guacamole made with jalapeños and sour cream.

Let me just say, the green chile sauce here is probably one of the reasons I actually like it in the first place. I don't know how to describe green chile sauce without it sounding gross, so let me just say it is like salsa, but made with Hatch green chiles. They are roasted and then boiled... I guess. But it looks like a green mess, but it is good. Taos Diner and Twisters (in Albuquerque) are really the best and why I've come to actually like spicy chile sauce.

The service at the Diner is mediocre and you receive optimum service if you are a regular. Too bad I live in Kansas City, otherwise I believe Mr. C and I would be there every weekend!

Service: Mediocre, not letting that keep me from giving them 5 stars
    Food: Best food EVER
Would I go back? Um... I think I would move to Taos just for this restaurant.

I just loved this place because it is really humble and they have grass fed and finished burgers - boo yah!

They didn't ask how I wanted mine cooked, however, so it came out really well-done. Still delicious, though next time I will be clear!

Great hamburger--big and juicy with the works.  Excellent omelet with fresh veggies, very nicely done. This is really more than a 4 -- call it almost a five. Awesome place with a down home look and attitude.

While camping outside of Taos, we stopped by the diner on the north side of town for breakfast. HUGE portions of fresh, tasty, delicious food. I ordered a special that was essentially huevos rancheros with blue corn tortillas with both red and green chile sauce. I preferred the red chile sauce here - spicy, smoky, and complex. I also ordered a homemade biscuit on the side - very tender and moist, and especially delicious slathered in honey.

The inside wasn't much to look at, but had a homey, local vibe to it. Service was excellent - highly recommended breakfast joint!

This is the old Taos Diner North of town.

    Large helpings and friendly service.

I'd be lying if I didn't mention the decor was "weathered" but, if it isn't beat up it ain't true Taos!

Small breakfast burrito is just fine.  You don't really need to eat something as big as your head.

Green sauce has a nice amount of heat and preferred by me

We were vacationing in Taos for 8 days and had breakfast here 4 of those days.  If we didn't have a house with a full kitchen we would have eaten here everyday.  It's a cozy place where the locals go so right off the bat you know it's got to be good...the staff is great, the coffee rocks, the portions are huge and fabulous.  My boyfriends fav was the Willeys Breakfast Burrito - expect not to eat again until dinner.  And the Huevos & Pappas and Benedicts were fabulous too.  We can't wait to go back!

New Mexico is renown for it's chiles. they throw it into everything. Into scrammbled eggs, onto burgers, into soups and stews, into omelets, everything. And it's great, it's got a complex flavour, not just a bit of heat but there's a certain richness of the vegetable (?) which adapts and lends itself easily into a multitude of dishes.

Fantastic diner and I probably had one of the best burgers in my life here.
If you're unsure about what to get, just get the green chile burger, you won't regret it.

What I also loved about this place is that it seems that it's run by a certain segment of Generation X, everytime I stopped here, they had Sirius FM on  the Old Wave station, I was happy chowing down here and hearing beloved tunes from the the likes of Joy Division, Love and Rockets and Siousxie and the Banshees. The clientele is pretty cool too, you see everyone from Taos here, from the uber-wealthy who vacation here at their 3rd or 4th home, to the local cops and everyone in between. And they come here because the food is damn good.

There are few things in the world better than the green chili at Taos Diner. Forget the menu- Ask for a bowl of spicy green with a ladle of beans and a bit of shredded cheese. You might get a weird, "Oh you're so silly" look, but you'll be sure to leave with a big smile and a warm tummy. The green chili is so many positive adjectives in one spoonful... fresh, spicy, warming, filling, and endorphin-producing. At the same time, it's impossible to describe. You just have to try it for yourself.

There have been other small victories, like the chicken-fried steak...or the homemade organic espresso-raisin bread. All the offerings are smile-inducing in their own way, but for me, everything pales in comparison to the green chili. I don't understand how other establishments can create such slop when there is this shining beacon of yumminess in the world to aspire to.

    God bless you, Taos Diner.

Bottom Line: It's time to expand. Please think of those in the Pacific Northwest...

Fantastic dive diner for breakfast. Make sure you get the homemade biscuit, which is so big it could be breakfast itself.

Our waitress was a chatty lovely lass spinning plates of omelette's and eggs. The green chili scramble was especially good and the price point more than fair.

Its obviously popular with the locals..always a good sign!

A word to describe this place...delicious! We stopped in here on our visit to Taos and were not disappointed! Bonus: serve cage-free eggs, grass-fed, free range beef and homemade drinks and ice cream! Props to our waitress for holding it down waiting on tables by herself. I ordered the garden burger with fries. No complaints on the burger, it was grilled perfectly and the fixings were fresh (hate when places try to sneak wilted lettuce in their burgers). Dad ordered chilaquiles which he sad were amazing. Have to add that their ice tea was freshly brewed, "big deal" you say? Well, big deal to me because soda machine ice tea is just wrong in my book.
Bottom line, this place was great all around.

Love the Taos Diner! Taos Diner II, even better.
The food is fabulous.  Some of the best chile in Taos.   My favorite is the spinach and green chile enchiladas with an egg on top.
The atmosphere is comfortable and the place is always very busy.

This place is a Taos classic, a truly authentic greasy spoon. Coming here for breakfast is always a treat. I always order the ham and cheese omelet, and they are always happy to add peppers and onions when I ask for them. The tourists go to Michael's Kitchen, but the Taos Diner is where the locals go, and may be its best kept secret. I like to imagine that I'm Dennis Hopper in the sixties whenever I eat here.

This is where the locals eat, an amazing place to have breakfast, i visited 3-4 times a week for three years, getting usually the same thing, but when i differed from the usual, which was a small(huge) breakfast buritto. i was nothing but satisfied and ready to come back again, when ordering ask for a sidearm, thats what i would call it, they have a bisquit there that is great, not usual but great. Go there, get to know the locals, love Taos.

Yum yum yum - Taos Diner is where the locals eat. I MUST eat here at least once on every trip to Taos - and I always get the same darn thing - Arnold's Eggs - Ham and scrambled eggs on top of their light, delectible biscuits and smothered with their delicious white sausage gravy. CARB ATTACK! I love it! Their other breakfasts are wonderful too - light, fluffy pancakes, amazingly flavorful and hot green chili (smothered on home fries with cheese - YUM!), great eggs benedict, etc. Good lunch too. Only open until 2:00ish each day.
