The short: customer service 0/5, food 1.5/5, beer 4/5. For me, it's not worth the 30 minute ride to return. The food is fairly bad, we came with a group of 25 people and they refused to split the bill. As a result I paid $50 for no drinks, and only about $25 worth of food on top of the $60 we paid already at the bar for drinks. For how many people and many first time customers they turned off by refusing to work with us this shows this establishment is not concerned with customer service. The staff was ridiculous not allowing a friend to bring a bottle of wine in that was a GIFT and the only reason we we there. Even the manager wouldn't help. A glass of wine was $10 and a BUD LIGHT was $6. Even after our party relented and paid they way they demanded, causing many people to over pay for what they actually ate/ordered they rudely flashed the lights on and off and ripped the tables apart and started cleaning the tables before we were done. Will never return.

Great selection of craft beer with 11 rotating taps. Kevin, the beer manager, is a very nice guy and is strongly committed to the craft beer scene. He is constantly hosting beer-related events at the tap room and sends out a great newsletter.

Another personal favorite feature: the lounge-like area adjacent to the bar that contains 3 or 4 soft and comfy couches. It's usually hard to get a seat over there, but when you can, there's nothing better than sipping your oak-aged yeti imperial stout while sitting in a lush, poofy seat.

    Love/Hate relationship with this place.

Kevin does an AMAZING job of rotating the taps in and out week by week. He gets some of the rarest beers ever at decent prices.

However, the staff always appear to be too busy and stressed out to give personalized service. Occasionally there is some attitude, but that is only because they are so burnt out by the traffic of the bar. Kevin needs an extra man behind the bar on Fri/Sat nights. Also there is a nice patio area for the summer, but during the winter while indoors it gets crowded quickly.

Surprisingly, on an off night can be women to mack on too. It's rare but when it happens, it happens.

Also the bad classic rock band needs to go (weekends only.) Whoever manages the sound levels does a piss poor job as they are always too loud for the bar area. The only way to salvage a conversation when they play is by moving to the business center outside the bar.

Good beer selection but a little pricey. The bar has nice atmosphere.  Looking forward to trying the food!

Great beer. Great service. Great prices. Absolute must for beer lovers. And happy people. People should be happy, no?

My husband and I frequent the somerset hills hotel. The bar offers a nice selection of craft, microbrew and imported beers. Every so often the bar hosts some really nice beer events. The staff is polite and friendly and they bring in some decent bands. Music starts at 10:00 friday nights, no cover.

OK, the thing you need to know about this place is that it is not a stand-alone bar - it is housed within a fancy hotel. Not the end of the world, but also not what I expected when someone told me to meet them at this "beer bar." Conveniently located off I-78, but easy to miss if you don't know to look for a hotel.

The beer selection is strong and not overwhelming. Personally I prefer 11 good beer choices over 50 taps that range from good to terrible.

I immediately regretted trying the complimentary broccoli-cheddar bites.

Gave them 4 stars for fighting the good fight in the beer world, but really should be 3.5 due to the awkward location.

If you consider yourself a beer snob (I do not), this very well might be the place for you.  My wife and I stopped in and they had 11 beers on tap - not one domestic light, pretty much all beers that we had never heard of.  To be honest, I can't even remember the names of the beers we ordered but they were decent.  My wife had to switch to the good 'ol Coors Light but it was definitely a nice experience to try something different.  We didn't try any of the food, but they did have some pretty good bar specials.

As far as the actual bar goes, it is very nice.  I was pleasantly surprised by how big it was.

Great beer selection but a bit pricey, food isn't too bad but with free appetizers during happy hour it's hard to complain.

Avoid Wednesdays like the plague as there is always terrible live (and very loud) music.

Small but excellent selection of beers. Many that you cannot get anywhere else. Very friendly bar with excellent bartenders. Food brings it down though it is very average pub grub.
Tap room is the bar/restaurant in the somerset hills hotel.

Great selection of beer,  prices are high, food isn't so good and service is very very slow.  If you are looking for a hard to find beer this place will do the trick but if you are looking for relaxed happy hour kind of place this is not the place.  It would be nice if they had some beers under $7 and some normal pub snacks.  It would also be nice if the servers had a better attitude.

Recommended by a friend for their great beer selection, had Brooklyn Dark Matter as a draft! It was awesome followed the  Very impressive beer selection for drafts, especially since it is very suburban. Had a Kobe Beef Bacon Burger with Ommegang BBQ suace. Good beer food.
