This place is your average Tex-Mex restaurant. Â The dishes are nice and cheesy, they have the white queso dip, and their salsa is just plain average. Â I usually go with the burrito, enchilada, and taco combo, but it's not really anything that incredible. Â It's a good place to get some Tex-Mex around Athens, GA, and to have a few drinks while hanging out with friends.

Okay, remembering Watkinsville as the no-stop-light town where my grandfather was Sheriff in the early 1960s, and where haute cuisine was the luncheon counter at the cigar smoke-filled Jim Booth's sundry shop, and as someone with some experience in Mexican food having lived in California for the last forty years, imagine my surprise when I ate at a Watkinsville Mexican restaurant that was actually pretty good! Â This is definitely a place I'll consider returning to when visiting the area.

At the time of this review, this business listing is missing an "r". It's "Parrilla" as you can see in the sign. Nonetheless, the Watkinsville location is much easier to get into than the small Athens location, and a bit more updated, so we visit here on a semi-regular basis. Service is extremely zippy, and the more common dishes come out in time-warp like fashion. What ~ I just ordered that! How is it at my table ALREADY?!? Did they know we were coming? So, yes, we really love this restaurant, and we will visit until our tummies cannot take any more consistently high quality ground beef tacos, chicken soft tacos, pork tamales, and veggie tamales. Mmmm....

This restaurant, and the Homewood Hills Version, comprise my favorite restaurant in Athens, hands down. Every time I've eaten at La Parilla (and I've been going since the first one opened many years ago) I've come out of the place happy. Their food is cheap, delicious, and they have the best service. Waitstaff are always friendly, prompt and on top of their game. Tons of vegetarian options, and they put a lot of detail into the preparation of their salsa, guacamole and other additions. Their vegetarian fajitas are the best I ever had, and they even divulged the recipe to me when I asked. Their food is never, ever frozen and reheated and their margaritas and daiquiris are delicious, too. Absolutely love this place and can't say enough good things about it. Most of my family/friends count this as one of their favorite restaurants as well.
