If you know good food then you'll be disappointed. We took our order to go because it was packed. We waited 30 minutes for our burgers to be ready. Since it was taking so long, I expected my food to be excellent but it wasn't. I threw half of it out and only forced some of it down because I could not throw the whole thing out since that would be a complete waste of $. The burger was dry. The bread was dry and too big for the burger. The beef had no seasonings. The cheese melted like glue on there because the burger was not well done, it was burnt because there is a difference between well done and turd, so that explains why the cheese was glue.  I would not recommend this place for anybody. It was overpriced. The burgers came out to be $25 for 2 with fries. The place is  this pub frequented by people more interested in being seen than eating good food. I would pay $20 for a good burger and not $1 for these burgers, as a matter of fact, this place murders cows because they cause so many ppl to spit out and throw out food that they're actually wasting cows.  This place is a hang-out spot for ppl who want to hang out with their friends, have a good time on the weekend and show off how great life is. We went to this restaurant because of a magazine article claiming that this place had the best burgers, but apparently maybe a friend or family member wrote that magazine article because McDonald's have better burgers by a mile.
Review Source:My friends brought my wife and I here for lunch today. Â I must say, Â I was pleasantly surprised. Â They had talked about this place before, so I was happy to finally try it.
First off, this place is very unassuming. Â It looks cutesy and cozy from the outside, and rather divey on the inside, but DO NOT let that fool you. Â What this place can do in the kitchen will make you reevaluate your definition of bar food.
For an appetizer we ordered the hot wings...delicious. Â Very meaty, nicely cooked and nice tasting. Â My only objection is that their "hot" is not very hot.
I ordered the salad crazy craisin salad. Â I thought it was very fresh, tasty and plentiful. Â The house-made balsamic vinaigrette was very good. Â I would certainly ordered it again. Â My only objection was that it wasn't as cold as I prefer. Â An old, complaint, I know, but I like my salads cold. Â This tasted like they made it and kept it out while everyone else's food was being cooked.
My wife order the spinach and artichoke turkey burger. Â If they didn't tell me it was turkey I would have never known. Â It was so meaty, fresh, and tasty. The spinach is made directly into the burger, which is a nice touch. Â The fries that came with them were perfectly cooked, but slightly under-salted. Â This is not a bad thing since you can always add salt, but this an observation.
My friends ordered the Ruben sandwich. Â I didn't try it, but they both said it was very good.
I would love to come here again and get something other than a salad. Â I regret getting a salad, not because it wasn't delicious, but because it was so good I can't imagine how good other items on the menu are.
The locals are lucky to have a place like this. Â Makes me want to move to Croton.
This lady has lost her mind. Â The prices are outrageous 8.50 for a crappy glass of wine which the bottle costed her less than $3.00. Â It was 53$ for a glass of wine 1 beer a soup a salad, and a steak sandwich!! The amount of tree-hugging yuppies from croton that hang out in there now have turned it into a terrible expensive restaurant.. Also noticed the place was empty when it's usually packed.. May have something to do with the fact that you're charging 14$ for shrimp gumbo soup..! Justin thyme will be getting our business from here on
Review Source:Cozy environment, friendly service, and very good food.
Stopped by here the other day with a few friends for lunch. Â We loved the Banker's Clam Chowder (though it could have been served a touch warmer) and the lobster rolls were A+. Â Our one friend who had the bacon cheeseburger was disappointed, but he can be picky at times. Â
Net/net: Â we loved it. Â Cute, small, tavern environment and I'd say surprisingly good food to go along with it.
Food was great- wings are amazing! Waitresses can be rude but it's mostly a bar atmosphere with some tables to sit to eat. The place is really small and gets very packed. Go early or you're gonna have to wait 30mins to sit down. The bar atmosphere is loud and can be hard to enjoy your meal on weekend early nights.
Review Source:Ambiance: Just right for me for a casual, relaxed night out. This is a family-friendly place, so if you're one of those cranky, uptight people who can't deal with kids, then don't come here. (At least the kids when I went were well behaved.)
Prices: Totally fair, and portion sizes are rather generous
Beer selection: Not huge but good options
Food: I and my dining companion tried wings (medium buffalo), a pepperoni pizza, and a cheeseburger. The wings were good -- flavorful and not that messy. The chicken was moist. The blue cheese dip was nice as was the way they cut the carrot sticks (a little wider than usual). Â The pizza was also tasty. Good crust, cheese, and sauce and above average pepperoni. Â The burger, unfortunately, was not that great. The meat didn't taste like it had been seasoned and the cheese also didn't have any flavor. It's a very decent sized burger, and for all of that meat, I really wished there had been something interesting to it, but it's one of the blandest burgers I've had in a long time. There's an apple-cheddar turkey burger on the menu; maybe I should have gotten that. The fries were good, though -- fresh, hot and crisp. I put a little parmesan cheese (for the pizza) on them. Hot parmesan fries...mmmmm.
I'll definitely go back because I was happy with the wings and pizza, and I'd like to give some other menu items a try. But even if this just becomes my new wings/beer go-to spot, that's fine, because the prices and laid-back atmosphere are winners.
This is a review for the weekend brunch:
Let me start by saying that service (mostly wait time for food) can be slow so you should go when you have time to sit and enjoy.
The outside tables are nice to sit at but you would need to get in early or get lucky. It can get noisy inside (a happy noisy) and The Tavern is very kid friendly for brunch. The chef is set up right inside the restaurant and you can watch him make each meal. It's a nice and appetizing touch.
They start you off with complimentary crullers (round donuts) with powdered sugar. Yes-I said they are free! They are home made and to die for. They are usually served warm. I mentioned "kid friendly" and their brunch has so many items for children. Our boys either order the home made french toast or the home made pancakes (both of course with whipped cream). My wife and I often find ourselves digging into their dishes for a "taste".
As for the adults-We have had the breakfast nachos, good morning pizza and my favorite, the morning burger with an egg on top. They are all fantastic. I would also recommend ordering their home made (do you see a trend here?) potato chips. If they are not served as part of you meal-order them. Your store bought potato chips will never taste the same!
They also have 2 TV's inside with local games and/or news.
I have found people inside The Tavern who have traveled from far away to enjoy this brunch and have never found them to be disappointed. You won't be either. I recommend going early and often!
Who cares about the mediocre food when you've got hands down, the absolute WORST SERVICE in Westchester. Rude and lazy waitresses who obnoxiously tell you to come back when it's not so busy or spend 10 minutes on the phone explaining why they can't take a pizza to go order because they're 'short-staffed' (as usual).
The pizza used to be the only reason to come here but since they're trying to squeeze every last penny out of this place, they switched the fresh pepperoni for the cheap stuff and now it's strictly average.
For a place still known to locals as 'Honey's', someone needs to tell the owner he'd catch more bees with honey than sh*t. And by the latter, I'm referring to the attitude of the staff.
I went here for lunch a few weeks ago and wasn't too impressed. Â I might have ordered wrong though. Â I had a BLT and tried the burger. Â The BLT was good. Â Not the best but you can only do so much to a BLT. Â The burger was a big disappointment. Â It tasted like gas/heavy grill flavor and was very greasy. Â I actually didn't even finish the piece I was given. Â The fries were good. Â Someone got a salad at the table which I figured was a bad idea but it actually looked really good and I saw the mac & cheese on someone else's table and that looked really good also... so... I give it 3 stars based on the food I tried but I'd probably say try the restaurant... just don't order what I did.
Review Source:Our go-to local spot for a casual, pub food experience. Â Solid quality, a reliable menu (we've only been there for dinner - sounds like we have to try brunch for fresh donuts!!). Â Staff friendly, once in a while they have trouble getting to customers when it's busy. Â Bartender knows how to mix a good margarita and a Manhattan. Â Give them a try!
Review Source:Definitely a favorite. The Tavern, formerly known as Honey's, has good eats and good atmosphere. The waitstaff is super friendly and the chef is always floating around. Everyone working and dining is smiling at all times. The pizza is AMAZING. As are many of its other offerings, but generally I go there for the delicious pizza. It makes a great spot for a date night or for an outing with a group of friends. Always fun. Oh, and I mention the pizza?
Review Source:Just had my second burger here today, and it was badly undercooked just the way my first one was. Both times I asked for Medium (pink in the middle), and both times it was RAW. The first time I had to send it back twice for them to get it right. This time I even warned the waitress, and told her to make sure it was medium to no avail. Cooking meat to the requested doneness is one of the first things a cook learns. This one hasn't. Maybe I wound up with the same cook both visits?
P.S. The Tuesday $14.95 special on the lobster roll is now $18.95 Â :(
We went here on a recommendation from Westchester magazine for best brunch. I am definitely a breakfast person, so I was very curious about their non traditional breakfast dishes. The breakfast pizza was excellent. It came with three toppings of my choice (cheddar, Bacon, and mushroom), and it looked appealing. I was a bit disappointed in the breakfast nachos, as they were just tortillas chips with scrambled eggs and other topping thrown on top. I am not sure what I was expecting, but hey, whatever. They served homemade donuts on the house which were quite good.
We also tried some of the lunch dishes while we were there. The chicken Caesar salad was great. The French fries with garlic mayonnaise was great as well. The personal pizza was good enough, but I would not get it again.
All in all, I was very impressed. Excellent service, cool atmosphere, nice outdoor seating area, and great prices make for a place I would visit again.
I haven't eaten here in at least a year but when my then girlfriend and I lived in Croton, this was our bar-none, go to, favorite place. Â Their burgers were the catalyst of my newfound appreciation for burgers. Â Their menu of general comfort food is both extensive AND delicious, which is really great too.
The atmosphere is pretty great too.  Arrive, sit, order, eat, drink and be merry. Definitely gotta get back  here.
Their burgers are fantastic and reasonably priced. Â Warm and comfortable atmosphere -- all great things.
I had their buffalo chicken mac and cheese (a special the day I went) and I was extremely disappointed. Â I paid $10 to have Blue Box mac & cheese with a chicken cutlet on top and some buffalo sauce drizzled on top. :(
I was really looking forward to a gooey, warm, homemade mac & cheese (like I said, their burgers were brilliant and certainly homemade and grilled fresh)... but instead I had congealed pasta with a "cheezy" paste gluing it all together. Â I felt gypped. Â (The chicken cutlet was nice and crispy, at least.)
Regardless, I still plan to return to devour one of those burgers in its entirety, instead of sneaking in a bite from my guy's plate.
(Edited to fix my sleepy grammatical errors.)
What a gem! Â I rediscovered the Tavern this past weekend when my hubby and I were craving some quality bar grub and wanted to sit outside but didn't want to travel all the way down to Tarrytown to go to Horsefeathers. Â We went on a Sunday afternoon because the Times praised their weekend brunch but alas, we were too late for that so I ordered a pizza with goat cheese, spinach, and fresh tomatoes on a thin, homemade crust, and my hubby got the cheddar apple turkey burger. Â The food was served quickly and really hit the spot--it was high-quality and filling but not greasy as is often the case. Â The best part was the homemade chips that were served with the burger: prepared a la minute and crisped to perfection. Â Had I known that they would be so incredibly delicious, I'd have ordered some just for myself!
In terms of drinks, it's a tavern, so there's a great selection of beers. Â Just don't get too picky with the wine or expect a list--it's more of a red or white type of place.
The Tavern is a great place to go for affordable American cuisine in a casual setting. Â The food is always well-prepared and the staff is friendly. Â It is difficult to get a table sometimes on Friday and Saturday nights, as it is relatively small. Â They recently scaled back the menu somewhat, but with the daily specials there is enough of a selection to keep me coming back and the prices can't be beat.
Review Source:Truly a gem. Â I am a huge fan of Honey's, Croton's home-y riverview bar right off rt 9A at Senasqua Rd. Â Some of the best pizza in Westchester, and one of my most diverse and delicious bar menu's around. Â
I think its been there for years, but their recent revamping has really helped bring new life to this place. Â The staff is so friendly and the clientele is loyal and unpretentious. Definitely worth stopping by if you are in Westchester or driving through.
