Third Coast is our favorite breakfast spot in Chesterton.
The staff is very friendly and always provide excellent service.
The food is consistently great- not overly greasy, the portion sizes are perfect and they use delicious, fresh ingredients.
The atmosphere is lovely- very clean, bright and there is always great music playing softly.
There is also a coloring and puzzle station to keep the kiddos happy until the food comes up.
Plan on spending a little more than you would at the greasy spoon, but you get what you pay for; it's worth every penny!
...and you're supporting a local business!
Wonderful breakfast - appreciate the free range eggs and fresh breakfast that was delivered in record time. Â Great coffee, great service, good family atmosphere. Â I would definitely come back to Third Coast any time I am in the area. Â I also picked up a jar of honey and am looking forward to enjoying that as well.
Review Source:I came expecting some healthy, flavorful food but ended up with an over-priced, greasy mess.
I asked for something light and quick. She suggested a sandwich. I chose the Mayflower, which is a grilled turkey sandwich. She assured me that it would make a great quick lunch. She gave me a choice of fries or chips. I was hoping for home made chips but they were lays. I opted for the fries.
The sandwich was so greasy. It was closer to pan fried than grilled. I it was a cheesy mess covered in butter and oil. The fries were also extremely greasy and oddly bland.
I would not recommend.
A hidden gem of NWI... I am consistently excited and satisfied with my experiences at this cafe. It's a perfect complement to a Saturday afternoon spent at the Euro Market in Chesterton. The only problem I have is deciding what to eat... their breakfast options are awesome, but their buffalo burgers are one of a kind!
I went with a friend once and we ordered every single burger side that the cafe offered - sure, maybe overkill but it was certainly fun :)
Third Coast Spice Cafe is one of my Favorite places to eat breakfast or lunch. Its cheery and bright inside, the waitress is very friendly and quick.I LOVE the peppered bacon and the multigrain bread with homemade preserves. The eggs are organic, the hash browns are nice and crispy. As for lunch I love the Heartland which is a roast beef sandwich its very YUMMY,my son who is 14 LOVES their Bison burger on a pretzel roll we get carrot sticks to go with our sandwiches. So if you want a yummy place to eat come and give this place a try its so worth it!!!!
Review Source:Ate at this place for lunch today and from the outside and as you walk in, it looks great. Â The server was great. Â Then the problem came.... Â the food. Â We all ordered bison burgers and they were so over cooked it was like eating a piece of charcoal. Â It was awful!! Â I got mine also with carrots sticks instead of fries and they seemed kind of old like they have been in the fridge a little to long. Â All of us were severely disappointed in this place. Â As much as i hate saying this, you could probably get better quality food at mcdonalds. Â Do yourself a big favor and stay as far away from this place as you can.... Â I know I will.
Review Source:Everything was fresh and delicious! We had the bourbon chicken sandwich, the bison burger, and the kids' ham and cheese. I love that you can get carrot sticks, fries, or chips with your meal- my husband got the fries (yum!) and I got carrot sticks (also very good). My chai latte was delicious, too. The service was also just as great; everyone was so friendly, and they gave us complimentary cookies for the ride home! While we didn't use it, they had an adorable little table for kids with sweet animal chairs so kids could color and play in a fun space. Highly recommended, will go out of our way to go there again!
Review Source:This place is great if you're a vegetarian, not so great if you're vegan. Â They have vegan cheese which is very cool but they don't have anything to go with it! Â Think about it, Third Coast. Â If you're vegan, what are you going to order for breakfast? Â Instead of an omelette, we eat tofu scrambles. Â You don't offer that. Cage-free eggs are awesome but vegans are past that. Â We forgo eggs altogether. You don't offer veggie sausage. Â You can use veggie sausage patties in so many different dishes.
You offer vegan cheese. Â Great, but what am I going to put it on?
They say they cater to all dietary requirements. Not true.
Thanks to Yelp, I decided to give this place a try today since I was in the area for the European Market. Â Am glad I did give this a shot as it was a pleasant surprise.
I walked in and found a seat right away...got the menu and decided upon a build your own omlette with mushroom, tomatoes, ham, swiss, and feta cheese (loved the fact the ingredients are not extra -- one price with all you care to get on it). It also came with toast and hash browns (preserves on the side). Â
The omlette was one of the best I've ever had. Â It was very tasty and it was just enough...the hashbrowns were also good as was the toast (although they only served one piece of it).
This will definitely be on my list of places to return to as the food was reasonably priced not to mention very tasty. Â My only (minor) complaint was the fact the service was a tad slow and I didn't get a refill for my Sprite until the meal was served.
Oh yea the other great thing about this place is that they try to use all local ingredients and also cage free eggs.
If no stars was a possible rating, I would give it that. The food is great and I love the menu, but the service has plummeted. On two occaisions with my mother, we were completely ignored by staff for 15 minutes until we got up and asked why we hadn't been served. One of the waitresses had literally walked by several times as if we were't there. On another occasion by myself much later I waited 5 minutes with no service. I left after a couple who had come in after me was served immediately. I called after I had left and the woman apologized, but said they had been baking all morning and so were busy, which is a poor excuse when i was one of 3 tables in the place. Unfortunately my aunt and uncle had similar experiences and will literally only order take out to avoid the service. I have been a waitress at more than one restaurant over the years, and so I am very sorry to say that they provided one of the worst experiences I have ever had as a customer. This used to be one of my favorite places in Chesterton, but I won't be back anymore (the fact that I recently moved away is not the reason either).
Review Source:Easy to get to off the I94 interstate, this is a charming breakfast and lunch diner. Ordered the garden omelette, which came with well done hash brown potatoes and multi grain toast. The food was tasty, but I agree the portion size is smaller than most chain restaurants. Â I appreciate the smaller portions, especially when traveling.
I will be returning to this restaurant when we are traveling through this area again.
We dined at Third Coast Spice Cafe for breakfast twice during our weekend trip to Indiana Dunes... one time was not enough to try everything I wanted! Their food is fresh and made with care. They've got a good combination of breakfast staples (like omelets and hash browns) and unique concoctions (fusion burrito and fancy French toast).
You must order the orange juice-- it's too much fun to watch their juicing machine mutilate the oranges. And it's tasty. My husband described it as "healthy kool-aid."
Finally, I have to mention the service, which was outstanding. All the servers we encountered were friendly, patient and knowledgable.
I've really onlv visited TCSC for coffee. Â They do have an extensive menu and have a few fun drinks. Â They have quick service and their drip coffee is satisfying. Â However, their specialty drinks are really not as good as other coffee shops. Â They tend to be overly syrupy and little burned tasting. Â
If I come again I'll stick with the drip.
Three stars seems low for the quality of food and service for this restaurant, but 4 stars seems high because I gave 2 other restaurants in Chesterton  (Octave Grill and Red Cup Cafe) that have better food a 4-star rating.
We stopped here for lunch and got the Heartland (roast beef with carmelized Cajun onions) and a burger with Poblano salsa, carmelized onions, and avocado on a pretzel bun. The Burger was good, but I was disappointed that the Poblano salsa didn't have more heat and more flavor. I thought that the food at Octave Grill was better but they aren't open for lunch.
The service was friendly and fast so it was an easy place to stop off I-94.
Ah! Third Coast Spice Cafe! Â Where have you been all my life?? Â Well, all my life in Indiana, anyway. Â I had just about given up on a staple breakfast joint after so many disappointments (looking at you, Sunrise... you too, Peggy Sue...), but I'm so glad we decided to try Third Coast Spice Cafe this morning.
There's something to be said about portions, and it's that they are way too big at most restaurants. Â I was pleasantly surprised to see a well portioned plate when I ordered my Third Coast Omelette (for no extra charge I substituted tomatoes with bell peppers). Â The omelette was not a monstrosity requiring a doggy bag, but rather the size of an omelette I would make at home (of course this one had way better ingredients and was perfectly formed... My homemade omelettes usually end up scrambled). Â The taste was delicious. Â The hash browns it was served with were the kind of crispy perfection you never get at a diner. Â Omelettes also are served with toast and jam, although maybe not enough of the latter.
Prices were decent; I'd say comparable to the other restaurants in the area. Â While you might get more food at other places, you are definitely paying for quality here.
In short, excellent food, perfect portions, and I look forward to coming back.
This is my go-to breakfast place when I'm in NWI and don't want to start my day with a grease bomb. Â They use local, fresh ingredients in the food and you can definitely tell by the taste. Â I am also a huge fan of breakfast beverages, and reign over the table as the Beverage Queen. Â Third Coast provides drinks that are of suitable quality for monarchy. Â They have several varieties of coffee, including organic, and they have a new fancy machine that makes orange juice while you watch - they put in whole oranges, and out comes awesome juice! Â I love the homemade quiche here - they are individually made, so you get your own small quiche that was just baked. Â The last time I was there I got some sort of vegan breakfast burrito/wrap thing which was delicious, but more lunch food than breakfast. Â I had to make up for it by eating a muffin. Â So sad.
Review Source:Delicious little breakfast place located off of Hwy 49 in Chesterton. Sandwiches, salads, omlettes, and breakfast fare full of fresh delicious ingredients. My only complaint was that the coffee was just average-- my friends and I had the Breakfast Blend, so perhaps another variety is better. Our waitress was friendly without being cheesy, and didn't mind at all when my friends and I sat and talked for a little while after finishing our meal. Outdoor seating is available, although we sat inside because it was a hot July day. I wish I would have known about this place earlier, but I'll be going back frequently now.
Review Source:Fresh ingredients and healthy choices (even for the kids!) are what I like about this place, even though I don't always get the healthiest items.
Temperatures in the dining room are usually on the cooler side, so if you get cold easily, bring a jacket. Â
My recommendations:
1) If you like biscuits and gravy, try it here. Â You will not need any other food. Â They give you a huge saucer/plate with 4 thick biscuit halves smothered in gravy. Â It's all the gravy you can use.
2) The old standby are the eggs, bacon and toast. Â Relatively inexpensive, and all I ever need in a breakfast. Â The whole grain toast is nice. Â The bacon is peppery!
3) Pancakes are delicious, and a good option. Â My wife also seems to like the French Toast.
4) They've got some kind of Cajun Chicken sandwich with bacon that I enjoy. Â The Buffalo Burger seems to always be on special when we go on either Saturday or Sunday. Â It's good. Â The fries are good, as well.
5) Yellow Bourbon Coffee. Â In this case the bourbon is a flower, not liquor. Â I dig this the most.
The only downfall to Third Coast is that it closes at 3 p.m. Â So it's never a dinner option for us, which is a bummer, because it's one of the better places to eat in town.
They serve a small orange garnish with every breakfast. Â It's a nice touch. Â They also have Italian soda syrups if you're into that sorta thing.
Unlike all the people stopping by from I-94, I live just around the corner from this cafe. They have a nice lunch and breakfast, especially the omelets with things like sun dried tomatoes, chorizo, or shiitake mushrooms. They also have a good selection of coffee and tea.
Despite the mall like location the interior is pleasant, and they have shaded outside tables that are a rare joy in this area.
We stopped here on our way back to Traverse City from Milwaukee. What a pleasant surprise. The food was fresh and delicious and made with quality ingredients. The waitress was knowledgeable and friendly. In a sea of chain fast-food, this restaurant is a panacea! Definitely going to make this a regular stop on future trips as I found lots of menu items that sounded delish.
