This place is absolutely a hidden gem in West Sac! My friends and I came on a Saturday evening around 8 pm in search of a cigar lounge (not just a tobacco shop). Well we definitely came to the right place! Note... it's a little hard to find. There's no visible sign... It's the open door across from the AMPM and boot camp fitness.
I'm not a cigar expert (I've smoked exactly 2 cigars my whole life), but there were definitely 20-30 types of cigars, and the price range was between $3-60 (I think.. I didn't really look too carefully on the high end of the spectrum). My girl friend and I enjoyed our mojito and vanilla cigars (light, but not too fruity/sweet--I would definitely recommend to anyone who's trying it for the first time). The boyfriend got a Gran Habano which he enjoyed so much he didn't even share it with us!!
Josh, the shop owner, was really helpful when it came to picking cigars and just general cigar knowledge. He showed us how to clip the cigar, and even gave my boyfriend a free clipper when he bought some cigars to take home.
The lounge is super homey and comfortable... The Giants game was playing and it's just a living room-type area with a ton of luxurious leather couches and coffee tables. The decor is clean and simple--the type of place you could spend an entire afternoon in!
THE VERY BEST PART of this establishment is the BYOB policy... Yes, you read that correctly. Show ID and you can bring in your own alcohol to enjoy with a cigar!! They don't have a liquor license to sell alcohol, but you can definitely bring your own. If you don't finish the bottle, you can even leave it there with them to enjoy the next time you're back!! (As if you need another reason... this place is seriously fantastic.)
The Tobacconist is a great local shop!
Allthough it is in the same building as Reuben's 15th Street Barbershop it can be a little difficult to find the front door, so look for Reuben's and you are good (another great shop btw.)
The Tobacconist has a nicely-built roomy walk-in humidor with a solid selection of cigars that cover every flavor profile from the mild to the strong, from flavored to high-end. The prices are very reasonable (for a California shop) and you can find a cigar there from some less expensive shop brand (still handmade, still tasty) that would be a great golfing cigar, to a few very nice high-end Fuente's for that special occasion.
If you are lucky enough to have some time to spend in the shop, you are treated to leather couches, great furniture, great people to talk with while you are enjoying your cigar. The owners are gracious and hospitable, very helpful when it comes to finding a cigar with the flavor profile and in the price range you want, plus they carry a decent selection of pipes and humidors and various smoking accessories.
