I had been to the Hideaway with friends a couple of times prior to my visit on 7/1/13. Â It was a cozy place and the burgers were good. Â I especially liked the outside area because I like to smoke and drink at the same time. Â Last night, everything was fine until I went to pay my bill. Â My friend and I had 2 cokes, a burger, fried mushrooms and 2 cocktails which was all good. Â I stood at the bar and waited to be helped. Â The guy helped the girl next to me and then looked at me so I said, "I just need to pay my bill". Â He asked me for my last name and I told him my last name but also that they didn't have my last name because I hadn't given my card to them. The guy, who was quite large, 6' 3" or so, got flustered and said that Dave was in the office and that I'd have to wait for him. Â Well, I had seen Dave go out the front door after he had finished in the office so I told the guy, "I saw him go out the front door". Â He said that I would have to go find him. Â I said, "go find him? Â I just want to pay my bill and leave." Â (At this point, I feel that the guy should have simply asked me what I had ordered and totaled it up.) Â I asked why I had to go find "Dave" and why it was my issue that he didn't write it down. Â He said, very loudly in front of the whole bar, "I didn't say that it was your PROBLEM, SWEETY". Â My jaw was on the floor and I was frozen, humiliated. Â I've never been berrated by a bartender/server/customer service person like this in my life. Â I WAS JUST TRYING TO PAY MY BILL for the food and drinks that I had consumed. Â I didn't know what to do so I turned around and sat down at the table. Â I felt like, if I tried to leave that the guy would tackle me or something (I am a 5' 7" female). Â The guy stormed into the office then stormed out of the front door to find Dave. Â He stormed back in, went behind the bar and yelled at my back, "27 DOLLARS". Â I said to my friend, "is he yelling the total at me?" Â He said, "yes". Â I gave my friend my wallet and asked him to deal with it because at this point I was crying at the table, mortified. Â We were finally out of there and as we were trying to get in the car, there was Dave. Â I just told him that I have never been spoken to like that and that I was just trying to pay my bill. Â My obviously gay friend exclaimed, "If I were to speak to my customers like that I would be TERMINATED!!" Â This whole experience makes me really sad. Â We could have gone anywhere to eat and next time, we will go ANYWHERE but this place.
Review Source:I really cannot complain about having a fun bar within walking distance of my Curtis Park digs. Â The drinks are tasty, they have Olympia on tap and Wednesday night is karaoke! Â They also offer pool tables and a cute back patio. Â
The food is SUPER delicious too. Â Great selection of out of the norm burgers. Â AND, can't forget about the fried pickles! DELISH!
