I'm not a drinker and generally don't like going to bars but I came here for a birthday. The mermaids made this place memorable. I use to maintain a large fish tank at a museum and this one was impressive. It is fun posturing about what the setup for the upper floor is like where the mermaids dress and get ready to dive in, how they clean the tank, and how much money mermaids make in Sacramento. It reminds me of performance art which I like. Hats off to the performers with shimmering tails.
The bar is tight and it takes a lot of patience pushing through the crowds to get from one end to another. The Dive Bar is worth at least one visit to see the remarkable fabrication and presentation of someone's vision of mermaids swimming above a bar.
I've only been here once so I'm not sure if I can give it a fair review, but this place didn't even have the mermaid on a Friday night. I give it 3 stars just because of the fact that they have a mermaid (somebody let me know when,) and they have GREAT music. Unfortunately for me, I don't think they ever has dancing here, but I heard Leonard Cohen played in a bar and that was a first. I'll have to come back another night.
Review Source:Omg...you guys, there's a mermaid here. This place has an ironic name, especially since it's definitely NOT a dive bar. It's actually kind of swanky. The crowd was older and bit stuck up and sometimes trashy but I was seriously distracted by the fact that there is a fish tank above the bar that has a freaking mermaid in it AKA a girl in a mermaid costume swimming around. I would come here just for that form of entertainment because it's absolutely ridiculous. Come here to look at the mermaid and then go somewhere else to hangout.
