I went with my husband to Tommy T's last night. We've been wanting to see a comedy dinner show so when I saw the ViewponTV deal for $30 for $60 to spend on tickets, food, and drinks we looked up the comedian, watched a couple of his You Tube videos, and then purchased the Viewpon. Â We bought the deal on Wednesday and within a few minutes were able to make reservations for that Thursday. Â A bonus is that the Thursday tickets are only $10/person for General Admission. Â For $20 you can get Reserved Seating. Â But the more you spend on the tickets, the less you have left on your voucher to spend on food and drinks. Â When I made the reservation, they were very helpful and said that the General Admission would be good enough to get good seating if we came at 6:30 pm when the doors open (the show was to start at 7:30). Â We got there at 6:45 and there was only one other couple there. Â We probably could have come at 7:15 and still gotten good seats without having to share a table with anyone else since it was a Thursday night.
Other reviewers have commented negatively on the service here so I want to mention our experience. Â The service we had--both at the door and at the table--was great. Â At the door they were friendly and helpful and the servers were very attentive--even when they weren't "our" servers. Â The food came out promptly. Â And the appetizers were good (we had the zucchini sticks and spinach/artichoke/cheese dip). Â I considered giving 4 stars because my entree was very blah. Â (It was a hot sandwich. Â How hard is it to make a sandwich?!) Â And it was kind of pricey for food that wasn't that great. Â Also, the show didn't start promptly at 7:30, but we didn't mind as we were still eating. Â (People were still arriving at 7:35...so I guess it's a good thing that they didn't start till later.)
But I'm giving it 5 stars because overall it was a great experience: The comedians (both the opening comedian and the main act) were funny and quick witted--engaging the audience and incorporating it into their jokes. Â The service was great. Â And we were able to get good seats without having to arrive too early and we both had a good time (whereas the last dinner show we went to--a Murder Mystery--my husband was extremely bored).
I would say, if you can get one of the vouchers (so essentially food is half price) and you like the comedian then go for it. Â As others have pointed out: 15% gratuity is automatic, but they clearly have that stated on the table. Â And there is a 2-item purchase per person so you can't just go for the comedian and not expect to spend money on food or drinks--that's where the voucher comes in handy.
I didn't have great expectations for this place but we had always wanted to go to a comedy club. My wife found a groupon deal and so we came to see Don Freisen perform and to have some dinner also.
The show was very funny from beginning to end! Â I was very surprised that I enjoyed it that much. Â By the way, being a comedian seems like a tough line of work. Especially when these guys are hocking their CDs afterwards. The opening guy was selling bumper stickers! Â That's hilarious in itself!! Â I give the show 5 stars! Â I never even heard of these guys. And Damon Wayans is coming in a couple of weeks. Not bad
The food was only subpar and pricey for the quality. Â But I kind of understand it cause they have to make money somehow. Â It's like going to the movie theaters and having to pay 42$ for some popcorn, small drink and prepackaged nachos. Â I'll give the food and service 3 1/2 stars.
The service was decent and everyone was fairly nice. 4 stars.
Thus overall, I'm going to round up to a 5 star experience because in the end, I came here to laugh. And the comics delivered!
Okay. This was neither here or there. The food was not all that and the chicken on the nachos was very bland. The drink I got was SO GOOD! It was the banana strawberry something or other. MMmmm MMMmmmm Good. And. that is the only thing that was good.
The opening act and the main one were not as amazing as I thought it would be at Tommy T's. The opening act, which was NOT very funny (7/7/2013 for Bruce Bruce). He made jokes about being white around so many black people, or dating Chinese women so he can feel like his genitals compare to black men. Very stupid and childish stuff.
I say this place is A-OK because my dear friend says that it is usually much better on other nights when she's been there. So... till the next time Tommy T!
