I went with my husband to Tommy T's last night. We've been wanting to see a comedy dinner show so when I saw the ViewponTV deal for $30 for $60 to spend on tickets, food, and drinks we looked up the comedian, watched a couple of his You Tube videos, and then purchased the Viewpon. Â We bought the deal on Wednesday and within a few minutes were able to make reservations for that Thursday. Â A bonus is that the Thursday tickets are only $10/person for General Admission. Â For $20 you can get Reserved Seating. Â But the more you spend on the tickets, the less you have left on your voucher to spend on food and drinks. Â When I made the reservation, they were very helpful and said that the General Admission would be good enough to get good seating if we came at 6:30 pm when the doors open (the show was to start at 7:30). Â We got there at 6:45 and there was only one other couple there. Â We probably could have come at 7:15 and still gotten good seats without having to share a table with anyone else since it was a Thursday night.
Other reviewers have commented negatively on the service here so I want to mention our experience. Â The service we had--both at the door and at the table--was great. Â At the door they were friendly and helpful and the servers were very attentive--even when they weren't "our" servers. Â The food came out promptly. Â And the appetizers were good (we had the zucchini sticks and spinach/artichoke/cheese dip). Â I considered giving 4 stars because my entree was very blah. Â (It was a hot sandwich. Â How hard is it to make a sandwich?!) Â And it was kind of pricey for food that wasn't that great. Â Also, the show didn't start promptly at 7:30, but we didn't mind as we were still eating. Â (People were still arriving at 7:35...so I guess it's a good thing that they didn't start till later.)
But I'm giving it 5 stars because overall it was a great experience: The comedians (both the opening comedian and the main act) were funny and quick witted--engaging the audience and incorporating it into their jokes. Â The service was great. Â And we were able to get good seats without having to arrive too early and we both had a good time (whereas the last dinner show we went to--a Murder Mystery--my husband was extremely bored).
I would say, if you can get one of the vouchers (so essentially food is half price) and you like the comedian then go for it. Â As others have pointed out: 15% gratuity is automatic, but they clearly have that stated on the table. Â And there is a 2-item purchase per person so you can't just go for the comedian and not expect to spend money on food or drinks--that's where the voucher comes in handy.
I didn't have great expectations for this place but we had always wanted to go to a comedy club. My wife found a groupon deal and so we came to see Don Freisen perform and to have some dinner also.
The show was very funny from beginning to end! Â I was very surprised that I enjoyed it that much. Â By the way, being a comedian seems like a tough line of work. Especially when these guys are hocking their CDs afterwards. The opening guy was selling bumper stickers! Â That's hilarious in itself!! Â I give the show 5 stars! Â I never even heard of these guys. And Damon Wayans is coming in a couple of weeks. Not bad
The food was only subpar and pricey for the quality. Â But I kind of understand it cause they have to make money somehow. Â It's like going to the movie theaters and having to pay 42$ for some popcorn, small drink and prepackaged nachos. Â I'll give the food and service 3 1/2 stars.
The service was decent and everyone was fairly nice. 4 stars.
Thus overall, I'm going to round up to a 5 star experience because in the end, I came here to laugh. And the comics delivered!
Okay. This was neither here or there. The food was not all that and the chicken on the nachos was very bland. The drink I got was SO GOOD! It was the banana strawberry something or other. MMmmm MMMmmmm Good. And. that is the only thing that was good.
The opening act and the main one were not as amazing as I thought it would be at Tommy T's. The opening act, which was NOT very funny (7/7/2013 for Bruce Bruce). He made jokes about being white around so many black people, or dating Chinese women so he can feel like his genitals compare to black men. Very stupid and childish stuff.
I say this place is A-OK because my dear friend says that it is usually much better on other nights when she's been there. So... till the next time Tommy T!
be aware! they will rip you off! make sure you read the charges, they ask you to sign your bill in the dark, while the show is still going on and the lights are out. i ordered 2 drinks and they charged for 4, they included tip on the bill without asking, they also charge you for credit card transactions witch is against the law! Â the service is bad & the food is not good.
they did not honer the discount tickets i bought from an independent dealer that they hired. the owner (tommy) offered us a discounted rate and then changed his mind and became very rude.
the only good thing about the place is the comedian period.
i do not recommend the place!!

Just got done with tonight's show and must say while the talent there was good, the overall stage and presentation of the club needs major help. Â
There was three huge lines when we got there and most people including myself had no idea what line to get into, so for will call (pre paid online tickets) we have to wait in line to get our tickets to go back of another line to wait!! Little cluster and disorganized.
Once inside, I found the stage to be little weirdly displaced. I have no idea how some people enjoyed the show being stuck in the corner behind some pillars, luckily we got some good seats.
Overall, the talent we went and saw was great, lucky for us. As far as the actual club it needs major work and renovations.
1 star for their "Flat Iron Steak"
5 stars for Comedians they have "when" I go.
Went there last night on 06/07/13, because I looked up who was going to be there.
Turns out Nathaniel Stroman, A.K.A. "Earthquake" was there, I seen this guy perform in "LA" before and I will always attend his shows, what a good crack up!!!!!!
So, last night I ordered the flat iron steak, and it lived up to it's reputation "Flat iron".
The steak was as ordered, medium well, and about 1/2" thick. But it was the size of a Big Mack hamburger patty at McDonald's, and for the plate being served with dried up, over cooked 2 1/2 pieces of  broccoli and mash potatoes no gravy, I mean come on a F**cking $20 plate???????  "I guess the joke was on me"  haha!
But, I will keep on attending, based on who's the comedian of the night....
Definitely worth the price, based on the comedian, between $10 - $40 is my price arrange,
Hell, I have bought George Lopez tickets $180 a piece and that turned out to be a joke!!!!!! To me he was worth $10 that night.
What I'm saying is, it's good place to take a date!!!!!!!
Just saw Nick Cannon tonight and he was awesome!!!
I've been to Tommy T's a couple of times now and the comedian has been great both times and the food is wonderful but the service sucks!!! Both times our server hardly ever came around and both times it took our food about 45 minutes.
I will come back if I really want to see the comedian but not sure if the delicious food is worth the hassle!!!
Went to Tommy T's this past weekend and I was more than disappointed with the customer service and food. In reading other reviews, I definitely agree with the lack of parking and being "packed like sardines" but hey, the more the merrier right?
We arrived late and just as we found a seat, I got a phone call from work and had to answer. I walked to a side hallway (that just so happened to be the hallway that led to the kitchen) and quickly took the call. As I was standing there, a short, petite, blonde, female server asked me to not stand there because it was going to be heavy traffic coming in and out and I was in the way (mind you, I wasn't standing in the middle, but to the side). I get it, makes sense that they don't want people standing there since they're carrying plates back and forth. Anyways, literally 2 seconds after asking me to move, she flips out and says, "well fine. Don't move then and just stand in the way on your cell phone and act like you don't hear me." Is chick for real???? Give me a second to move and/or tell the other person on the line to hold on as I walk through the crowd to the other side of the room. None of the employees were wearing name tags so I didn't get her name, but she should not be a waitress anywhere. She was flat out rude.
I mainly wrote this review due to the horrible customer service, but also worth mentioning is how bland and boring the food is. You can definitely tell that most people go for the comedy and NOT the food. I ordered chicken nachos (which came with no chicken) and a chicken sandwich and it wasn't worth the 40 bucks spent. Also, the comedian speaking that was sub-par. I highly doubt I would return to this place.
I went to Tommy T's with a big group. We got there kinda late. During the show if you are late, they sneak you upstairs so it doesn't interrupt the show. We had great seats up top. Thanks Corrine and Tommy!!! Great view...great service. My favorite comedian of the night was the guy they call "Bubbles". It's always a fun night at Tommy T's. I can't wait to come back!
Review Source:This was my first time at the Tommy T's Comedy and Steakhouse at the Pleasonton, CA location. I had been to their other location a number of times in Rancho Cordova, CA. I purchased seats that were right next to the stage which probably wasnt the smartest thing to do. The first comedian immediately started ripping on me with gay jokes that were funny but it was very uncomfortable. Overall the show was great, but the food and drinks are way overpriced and about as good as an applebees or a chilis. I would recommend going if you like stand up comedy and since there is a two item minimum purchase I would just order two drinks, definitely eat before hand the food is not worth the price you are going o pay.
Review Source:I really disliked this place. My friend won free tickets and it was so unenjoyable, I don't think I'd come back even if it was free.
First, the parking sucks....there isn't enough and the lots in the back are dark as fuck.
Second, they pack you in like sardines. There are rows of small tables and you will be sitting with strangers if you have a small party. We were literally bumping elbows with the people next to us and you have to turn your body to see the stage, but most likely you will just be looking at the person's head next to you. One guy at another table had to stand up and push his chair in every time a server had to come through. Come on, that's ridiculously crowded!
Lastly, the service sucks. We had to ask 3 times and waited almost an hour just for water. We ordered drinks and asked for water at the same time, they brought the drinks, no water. Our drinks were well finished by the time they took our food order and the food wasn't brought out until 10 minutes before the show was over. The food wasn't anything special, I'd have rather eaten at the In 'N Out across the street.
And they automatically add 15% gratuity, probably because they know nobody would tip them if it were based on service alone.
I was so distracted wondering where our server was, wondering if we were even going to get our food before the show was over, wondering if the guy next to me was going to elbow me in the chest while eating his food, that I couldn't even enjoy the comedy show.
I went to the one in Concord many years ago and it was not like this! If I ever go back to this Tommy T's (which is unlikely unless I REALLY love the comedian who is performing) I would arrive early to get parking, eat before hand and just order a couple of sodas and sneak in a flask of liquor (since there is a two item minimum AND their alcohol drinks suck too). Too bad there's nothing that can be done about their seating arrangement though.
I really like supporting comedians in general. Whether they are struggling or famed, it is not the easiest job and bringing more laughter into this world is an awesome thing.
So I don't mind paying for comedy and I don't even mind the concept of the two menu item minimum. What I do mind is the food not being worth the up to $20.00 a plate that it costs. Moreover, I am vegetarian so there wasn't anything I could eat other than a salad. (Really? No more healthy/vegetarian options in somewhere like Pleasanton?) When they finally managed to dig up a veggie burger for me in the back, it was boring, the bread was flavorless, and the fries were clearly frozen. In past experiences, the drinks were practically virgin.
For what we're paying for the food, I'm sure you guys can hire a better chef.
The crowd was easily offended when the comedian made a remark about the demographic of the town (If you know the area, you know what I mean). They could hardly take a joke unless it was about parenting or Ivy League college life, but I guess that was amusing in itself.
TL;DR: Little pricey, Great Acts. Average kitchen and bar. Friendly staff. Parking is terrible.
Been following this establishment through several locations: San Ramon, Concord, and now finally in Pleasanton.
When I want to go see great comedians, but don't want to cross the bridge, this is the place to go. Â They don't have the capacity to book guys like Lewis Black perhaps, but the names they get are VERY respectable none-the-less (Seen Jay Mohr perform here, he was great, and Eddie Griffin is coming here in a couple of weeks, as is DC Curry). Â The more local acts they get (Saw Don Friesen here this past weekend, he was HYSTERICAL) are amazing as well.
All in all their line ups are always great, and worth the price of admission. (Which can be a little high for east bay).
Food is entirely unremarkable. Â Not bad, not particularly stand out either. Â I usually have dinner before I come here, but have tried several appetizers and deserts here, and was not unhappy with what we consumed. Â I would warn people away from it nor would I particularly recommend it.
I've never had any issues with the staff. They are friendly and as swift as you can be in this kind of establishment, and seem to take good care of their customers.
Items of Note:
Tips are automatically added in to your bill at 15%, though you are given the option to add more.
Parking can be a nightmare. Â The lot isn't quite big enough, and with the way they break up the shows, about the time you want to be in line is when everyone is getting into their car and leaving. Car pool if you are going with any kind of group, will save everyone some trouble.
I will definitely keep coming back here. Â Always leave with a smile on my face.
We have been here a few times now and we love it. Nice and cozy atmosphere...you sit at a table for four and we have been lucky to sit by really nice people every time. Since there is a two item minimum we usually eat here and so far the burger and wings are good but dont bother getting the steak!
Review Source:My gym buddy Joe took me lastnight. I never thought laugh from american comedy but I did....my rib is injored has  tiny fractured so i could not laugh too hard but I laughed. I went comedy club in North Carolina It was not funny at all all comedian was suck but Tommy 's was good want go again! Just not.. Fat Black woman was so mean to me in parking lot. I was so sorry for those have to hate every other woman....two of them was very fat and ugry.
Review Source:Nice venue, drinks that were ordered came quickly. Ordered the Sexy Mother Pucker, it was good but sweet. The food took a long time to come at least 30mins. The show had already started and we ordered at  7PM. The food wasn't bad, we ordered the chicken tenders and Hubby ordered a steak. The chicken tenders were basic with crisp fries. Hubby enjoyed his steak which came with mashed potatoes and veggies. The venue has a 2 item per person minimum. So you must order something even though you paid admission to see the comic.
Lonie Love was funny but she went on a 10 min political dialog which if I wanted to hear someones political views I would have stayed home and watched CNN for free.
Let's just call it a comedy club.
Been here a few times and I can sum this up without the need of some of my usual theatrics.
Pros:
Big name comedians
Small time comedians (still really funny)
Location
SMS Alerts & Free Tickets
Friendly Staff
Value for your dollar (before the second show and if you use the sms alerts)
Cons:
Parking (getting out of there is a nightmare)
After first show, there is no tap water, only bottled water which you have to pay for
2 item minimum per person (I believe)
Average food
Drinks suck
Now i dont usually say things "suck" but I have been there a few times and each time the cocktails taste horrible, lack any indication of alcohol, and had to be sent back. The food is average. Nothing i feel the NEED to ever have again, but at least it comes out warm.
I recommend this place for anyone looking to see a good comedy show. I haven't had a bad show yet which is why I keep going back.
I love this place! Â It was girls night out last night for Shea Suga, she was great and really funny! Â I recommend anyone who wants to laugh go see her! Â She's not only funny, but down to earth and kind. Â I first met her on New Year's Eve when Nephew Tommy was in the house to perform. Â She offered to take a photo of me and my cousin and then invited us to her show that we went to see last night. Â
I've frequented this venue more than a few times, and haven't had any bad experiences to date. Â It would be great to have my birthday celebration here coming up in the next few months. Â
Food is a bit pricy, but everything I've had on the menu so far has been really good and the drinks are good as well.
I came here for my 21st birthday with family to see Christopher Titus perform.
Obviously that was an epic birthday present. He was absolutely hilarious.
I actually had a really great experience and no it wasn't because I was drunk, in fact, I didn't even really drink that much but for the guests in my party, the staff was very accommodating. I don't know who in the hell can afford their expensive menu, but the drinks were reasonably priced.
The people in my party ordered the tickets in advance and I really think that cut down on a lot of chaos on the wait staff's part since we were able to reserve our seats online. We were quickly seated a little bit in the back, closer to the bar, but it was a still a good spot. I'm close to positive there wasn't an atrociously bad seat in the house so that's a perk.
With every comedy act you're going to get, there's always going to be that one heckler, that one douchebag, that one really loud drunk and this night was no exception. Watching Christopher TItus put that douche bro in his place was amazing and the security at Tommy T's is top-notch, very quick, they keep it on the DL and that guy was quickly escorted out.
What a dump! Didn't help that the comedians sucked on new years. But the way this place is laid out, where we got seated we couldn't even see the stage. You could only look at the back of the persons head that was in front of you. So they have TVs set up to so you can see what's happening on stage. Which makes no sense...so now I'm paying money for a show I'm watching on TV and I can't even turn the channel!! It's a horrible place to see a show, and the service is just as bad. I don't recommend this place at all!!
Review Source:So I been to this place twice already and had an OK time both times, I went here last weekend to check out Tommy Davidson who I have to say was pretty funny so as the other 2 comedians that were performing so I have nothing about the show at this place but everything else is not that great, number one there is a two drink or food minimum and everything is really expensive, I ordered the nachos that were $15 bucks and were not that good, for $15 I expect them to be the best nachos I have ever tasted, anyways my bill for 2 people not including the admission was $70 and I have to say it was the same last time so if you go here for a show expect to shell out some doe, been to way better comedy clubs.
Review Source:One of the worst experiences I've ever had.
The show was supposed to start at 9:30 we showed up at 8:30, we weren't seated until well after 10:30... It was 44 degrees outside. We get to the door, wait to be seated, after 5 minutes of staring into the crowd... she sends us upstairs, we finally get our seats and OFCOURSE we cant see... the waitress rushes us to order which was absolutely wonderful since we spent 2 hours outside... ALSO quick sidenote they have a no refund policy...-_-... The food.... I consider it extremely laughable that you can even consider it food... Our artichoke dip was out of the fridge cold... The wings were laughably burned and the soda was horribly mixed... I'm not too big on complaining but holy jesus this place is terrible... Won't be coming back here ever. Even w/ the free tickets we received for leaving early....
I went to support a comedian friend doing a show with many other comedians. Â The show actually ranged from mediocre to great, but this isn't a review of the show.
The food my wife and I had was fine. Â Nothing too special, but not horrible either. Â I had a $27 ribeye, and she had the chicken tenders. Â We both added salads for another $3. Â We shared a bottle of Zin that was good. Â The food quality didn't meet the expectations set by the pricing.
Now, this is the PRIMARY thing I want to get across: the chairs are terrible. Â Granted, we got there at 6:30, the show started at 7:30, and ended at 9:30. Â That's three good hours in the chair. Â Here's the thing: it felt like four! Â I was squirming all over my seat for the last hour trying to sate the pain. Â If you're going to pack people in like a bunch of sardines, you can at least provide decent chairs to sit in. Â That night gave me serious aches for the rest of the week. Â Bring a portable cushion if you've got one.
If you are stuck in Pleasantville... oops, I mean Pleasanton, and you want to get your laughter on, Hil-motha-effen-...Larious style, then this place will do the trick from my experience! Â Although it depends on the comedians that are lined up of course!
Maybe I am easy to please, but when it comes to a joint like this, I am not too picky when it comes to the service or even the food really for that matter... I just want some leg-slapping, pissing-your-pants funnyness going down, ya-ya brotherhood style! Â I want to be brought back to the days as a kid, popping the ole man's Betamax tape of Eddie Murphy's "Delirious" into the VCR for the first time....type of comedy...or
***cue the Reminicing, zamphire& his magical panflute, Music***
...George Carlin comes to mind too. Â
If you are NOT stuck in Pleasantville, than you may want to look for a place with better food & service... and perhaps a better lineup... I'm not so sure that Chris Rock, Carrey, Sandler, Chappelle, Tosh, Russell Brand, Dane Cook, or Russell Peters will be visiting Tommy T's in Pleasantville anytime soon. Â But hey, you'd be crazy to expect that out here in suburbia anyway, right. Â
So I shall end this review on a positive note for this establishment by telling you I think I almost did pee my pants the last time I was here, ...and no it wasn't due to the sardine like style of packin em in so the toilet was blocked. Â It was the comedy man! Â I guess maybe I should go out to more comedy clubs more often.
Tommy T's has some great comedians come to town and I love going to see my favorites. Â
That said, just reviewing the venue itself, it's ok. Â Not great, just ok. Â It's a bit crowded and hard to move from your table in areas. Â The staff is hit and miss. Â Some are incredibly friendly and nice, while others seem like they just don't want to be bothered and don't want to be there. Â I've eaten there in the past, and their food is not worth the price. Â You're better off eating beforehand and buying a bucket of beer.
Thank God I can finally write a bad review about this place!!! I was warning my friend before she went and she had such a bad experience, I felt bad that her experience wasn't any better. Â I have been here twice. Â The first time I was the one who initiated a big group together for a friend's 30th bday and the lady owner was incredibly rude to us, the place was cramped and it was overall a horrible time by most in the group - other than the drunk bday boy at least. Â The second I time I came (which was a stretch for me because of the horrible first time) was to support a charity cause for a friend. Â The wait staff was slow and unhelpful and really only cared about getting our two drinks in - of course for their already mandated tip.
I won't return. Â And what makes it even worse is that over and over people have said the same things on here about the place - they are racist and don't apologize. Â And now they have all this news coverage about a comedian being harsh to a gay couple visiting the place and instead of the owners doing anything to defend their hard working paying CUSTOMERS as they should, they defend the horrible acts of themselves and that comedian. Â Read the reviews, some of them have responses from the owners - they do not defend themselves against being racists..
Hey everyone - if you want to support  comedy and not bad management, racism, bad service and a company that does not give one inch about their customers, visit Cobb's or Punchline in the city or San Jose Improv. all great places with great comedians. Â
It's just not worth it. Â Trust me. Â Perhaps if people stopped supporting their bad service they will either change it or shut down once and for all.
Came here with my sister for my birthday. My sister ordered the tickets over the phone and immediately when we got there, there is a mix up over our tickets. They didn't even bother to check more into our reservation just assumed because of a price we told them we paid and our name on some list that we were not to be put in the reserved section.
Once we were cleared of that they seated us at this long table with tons of people we didn't even know turns out this is their "reserved seating". The space was so tight I could hardly even move, and could not move my chair. The waitress had to lean over me and onto me to serve the people across from us and each time dripping water into our hair from sweating glasses.
The menu I was given was incredibly sticky which grossed me out.
The person sitting directly next to me on my right was slumping over the table, blocking my view of the stage the entire performance. That song I wish I was a little bit taller comes to mind...
The waitress was pretty rude but with all of the people to wait on and forced gratuity on my bill...I can see why. Why should you have give excellent customer service, be friendly, and not drip stuff on customers?
This place was pretty bad, I will not be back.
The 1 star is for the hurricane cocktail of which made my night a little more comfortable and tolerable.
Came here for comedian Summore..
..she's the reason why I gave this place 4 stars, even though the waitress attitudes are less desirable and the food is nothing special..
...the place needs major renovation!!!
..i have not been to the SF location, which is newly built and also close to home, but there has not been any performers visiting that specific location, that's worth seeing..
..hopefully, someone that's worth seeing will come to the SF location because the pleasanton location has the right intentions but the venue looks like a hole in the wall, run-down, old-country saloon...
..but the drinks are decent and strong if requested!!!!!
Comedy aside, I can sum this place up easily: AWFUL FOOD. Â Eat before or after you plan to visit.
I'm not surprised at the 2 item minimum here, that's how most comedy places make their money. Â But their food is crazy overpriced and awful.
I'm seriously amazed they call themselves a steakhouse yet can't cook a steak if their life depended on it.
We both ordered the iron steak. Â My date ordered medium well and got well done. Â I ordered medium rare and got well done. Â So, I sent mine back. Â Then the next steak was completely RAW in the center. Â Not rare, RAW. Â I sent that back, and asked for a manager. Â I said I did not want the same entree again and so I ordered the kabobs. Â In the meantime, the "chef" decided to try again, so they sent a third out, this time it was well done AGAIN. Â The waiter said at least give an "E for effort." Â My date said more like "F for fail." Â Then the kabobs came out, which ironically enough were cooked perfectly. Â However, the "teriyaki" sauce was awful, and basically soy sauce with a few other ingredients, couldn't eat it. Â
The portions here are also ridiculously small for the prices.
The drinks were pretty lackluster for the price as well.
And, at the end, not one single drink or meal on our bill was comped. Â You'd think, after trying THREE times to get a STEAK at a STEAKHOUSE to be cooked correctly, and three times they FAIL, while my date eats his and I sit there with no meal, they would have had the customer service skills to do something about it. Â But no.
So, lesson learned. Â Come here for the comedy, order the cheapest stuff on the menu for the minimum, and make sure you eat somewhere else before or after.
Been here twice, one for a headliner and one for the finals of a comedy competition.
4 stars is for the quality of the comedians which were most stellar. The majority time I was laughing my head off and definitely left with a big smile on my face.
Food/service was mediocre which is what I expected. Prices are on the higher side and especially with cover it adds up to be pretty pricey. Also, you are squished and may be at strange angles so you end up with a sore neck and claustro fears.
Good times tho!
Food is seriously lackluster and expensive for what you're getting. Â $6 for a piece of cheesecake that's an inch wide at it's thickest part? Â It was good but that's insulting. Â Drinks could be much stronger. Â My mojito didn't taste like strawberry, mint or rum...just tangy water. You might wanna give people more for their money if you're gonna require that they purchase two items!!!
Comedians are always the highlight of any visit to Tommy T's. Â Everything else about this place, including the service...sucks.
My husband and I went to Tommy T's in Pleasanton for the first time last Saturday night to see Christopher Titus.
He was great. Â
It was a mixed feelings about Tommy T's.
We got VIP seating and were told to arrive by 6:30 if we wanted to have dinner. Â So we arrive at 6:00pm. Â I wanted to have time to eat BEFORE the show started. Â We show up and are seated right away. Â Excellent seats upstairs right up against the railing so we had a perfect view of the stage and close up.
Then we ordered two dinners and drinks. Â and waited over an hour and well after the show to get that dinner. Â That was after the waitress repeatedly apologizing to us for it taking so long and having to sit there starving while we watched the people on each side of us get served, eat, and have their dishes cleared. Â We were not the only ones those. Â I noticed that another couple was getting up to complain about having to wait forever for the food. Â
After I finally pulled on of the staff aside and said that if the food was not there in a couple minutes, couldn't they AT LEAST give us some chips and salsa to hold us over and comp it since we should not have to wait this long when we paid VIP and have at this point waited an hour and 20 minutes for our food???
I was assured that they would absolutely take care of us and comp some chips " or dessert or something". Â about 10 minutes later no chips ever arrived but we FINALLY got our meal. Â We both ordered the Salmon. Â Please tell me HOW we waited that long for Salmon?? Â
But, here is the good news. Â The food was excellent. Â And I am pretty sure it nothing to do with being so hungry that I was ready to kill everyone in the room. Â :) Â It was actually really, really good. Â
But then we wanted dessert and even if we had to pay for it (instead of comping it which they really should have for the excessively long time it took to get our meal) we wanted dessert and planned on ordering it. Â And then suddenly we get the bill. Â Â ??? Â No, hows the meal? Â No "can we get you anything else"? Â So we didn't even bother telling them we wanted dessert at that point. Â And no, nothing was comped. Â Not even the Tea or the drink. Nothing. Â
Overall, the entertainment was great of course, and the food WAS really good. Â But in the future, I will eat before coming or on the way, and then just stick with 2 drinks and leave it at that. Â
We are not cheap.  We typically tip at least 20% for good service, and more for Great Service.  I waited tables.  I know the work is hard and under appreciated.  But tonight I just left them with the  automatic 18% gratuity that they automatically put on the bill.  I would have tipped 20% on the total meal had some more effort been made to keep us happy with at least a "so sorry for the wait, the kitchen is backed up, but since it has been so long... please have some chips and salsa on the house"....... that is all that I would have needed to keep me from getting so grumpy and she would have been tipped more than the automatic 18% on the bill.
All said and done,... this was our fist time and I understand that things happen even in the best establishments. Â So I will go again and see how it goes. Â And if all else fails..... EAT FIRST and just enjoy the minimum 2 drink requirement. Â :D
This place is just awesome!! They always have the BEST BEST comedians. I love that I don't have to drive to San Francisco to get some good action.
I decided to get the VIP passes last time I was here (Friday 11-11-11) , I was right in the front. Pretty cool.
I have never tried their food.
My only recommendation is that you get your drink on before you head over to Tommy's T's of course, with your DD.
They have a two drink minimum, and I am sorry to relay that the mix drinks SUCK,,,BIG TIME..
I wanted to go see a comedy show before I popped this puppy out. Â We decided to go see Jay Mohr here during the Saturday late show.
The lines are confusing. Â We were standing in the special ticket line apparently and when it started moving into the place we were made to leave and go stand in a second general admission line on the other side of the building. Â What is that about?
We were finally sat in the very back near the bar. Â Pretty much at the bar. Â I don't mind that, but it was very obvious that this place is trying to cram as many people as possible into the room.
Like most comedy theaters they ask you not to talk, text or take photos during the performance. Â No one told the vapid blonde at our table even though I was sitting right next to her and heard and saw the same announcement that she did.
Also, the MC needs to take advice from the same announcement too. Â Because after he intro'd the opener he walked to the back of the room and just started having a conversation with one of the employees like they were the only two people in the room. Â Really?
There are also flat screen TV's all over the room too. Â I figured out why. Â Because the seating in the room is so terrible you almost have to look at the TV's in order to see the comic.
If I wanted to watch Jay Mohr on TV I would have finally given in and started paying for cable and not paid for this show.
We wanted food and were the last people asked what we wanted to drink. Â I said I wanted to order food too and she asked what I wanted. Â We were never given menu's? Â She seemed all surprised like "OH NO!" Â
My husband ordered a few drinks I had cranberry juice. Â I ordered the Hawaiian Chicken Sandwich and my husband got the Chicken Tenders.
The sandwich was ok. Â The Chicken was juicy and had a nice sauce. Â It was supposed to come with a slice of grilled Pineapple. Â The piece of Pineapple that came on my sandwich might as well have been a pubic hair because it was that big.
They never came and cleaned our plates off the tiny table,(we were sharing with "captain scream out the obvious jokes" blonde) until the show was minutes from being over.
I'm going to say that we will not be coming back here again. Â I'm not going to pay extra to supposedly get better seats. Â I'm not going to stare at flat screens with a terribly placed camera to view the comedians. Â I'm not going to subject myself to this again.
If Jay Mohr comes back to town I hope he goes to another venue because I will not come here again.
~Side Note~
Jay Mohr was amazing! Â His off the cuff stories were just such a refreshing comedic take on everyday life. Â The Clint Eastwood P-U-S-S-Y story almost made me pee my pants. Â Of course I wish I could have seen him do some Nice Guy Eddie live but I am not going to yell things out at him on stage. Â He is a great live performer. Â Go see him!!!
Came here last Friday for a friend's birthday. We saw Craig Shoemaker and he was hilarious! I've seen him years ago so it was nice to catch him again.
I wouldn't say this is my favorite place to see a comedy show. This place use to be a Hungry Hunter when I was younger. The way the tables are set up make it hard to see the stage. Just the whole set up is awkward and I felt I could not see the comedian on stage and really get involved.
Service was nice and drink prices were pretty reasonable. Even the security was nice and friendly.
Being that I live in San Jose, I would much rather go to the San Jose Improv for a future show. The seats and atmosphere are much better there.
This place is so-so, and not for me even though I work less than a mile away. The place is decent, very crowded and in a Motel 6 parking lot - those are the basic facts. I even like that it seems like the place is operated by a family or old time friends.
What I really think is kind of awful is the gauging prices. The drinks are weak and really expensive (my advice for places like this - buy beer and shots, they will still be expensive, but you'll know what you're getting). The service and food are mediocre and pricey. I understand how the game is played and that I have to pay for drinks even though I've already paid for a ticket to the show. I get that; I even expect the other stuff.
What really, REALLY chaps my hide is the ticket service charge - everywhere charges that, but everywhere else you ACTUALLY GET A TICKET!! I don't know why this bugs me so friggin' much, but how am I charged a ticket service fee when you don't hand out tickets, stamps or wristbands signifying I've made a purchase and someone has had to service me by handing, stamping or clamping something to or on me. Â
Ugh. So friggin' annoying. I want my friggin' tickets or I want my money back, Tommy!
Every Valentine's Day, I am taken to a fancy $$$$ restaurant. Â I love fine dining and upscale establishments once in a while; it's a great experience, and I get to try dishes from all over the world that aren't quite prepared the same at other places. Â But a girl like me appreciates the simple things in life, you know, a handwritten love note, a homemade meal, a desperate attempt to sing me a sweet love song, and endless laughter. Â That would have made a perfect Valentine's night for me. Â So when my date informed me of our reservations at a $$$$ joint, I dropped my head and pouted my most famous pout. Â
"I don't wanna go to a fancy place. Â I wanna do something FUN", I whined.
"That IS fun," he insisted. Â "I thought you like eating at nice places?"
"I do," I hesitated, "but we're gonna get all dressed up to eat in silence and go to some bar or lounge and get wasted or watch a boring movie and then that's it! Boriiing."
"Okay then you plan Valentine's", he shrugged.
Knowing that my chances of receiving a handwritten love note, a homemade meal, and a desperate attempt at a sweet love song was out of the question, I went in search for endless laughter. Â To my luck, Tommy T's Comedy Club and Steakhouse was hosting the 23rd Annual Bay Area Black Comedy Competition and Festival (review to follow). Â Tickets were only $27 each, and if you got there an hour after doors opened, their signature Steak dinner was only $19.99! Â How's that for a steal?!
We got there at 6pm, an hour before the show, since the lines outside tend to get long. Â It looks like a mini theatre or Opera house inside, complete with a balcony lined with tables and a bar on both floors. Â There wasn't a bad seat in the full house. Â We didn't make it in time for the Steak Special, so the average dish was between $23-$36, very delicious, and served with a smile! Â (We even got to meet Tommy!)
Ole boy loved his steak, and kept mumbling about how it was so juicy on the inside and had a nice crisp all over. Â I had the Prime Dip au jus and I ABBsolutely loved its light, crispy flat bread, slices of tender prime rib, and the sweet au jus dip! Â I even treated myself to a Hot Fudge Sundae which was big enough for two!
Abby A. planned a successful night! Â No dressing fancy, good dinner, great show, saved ole boy $$, and laughed till I cried! Â My mama always told me, "If you want something done right, do it yourself!"
