Tommy's is an excellent restaurant that I have been to many times. I have taken clients and my wife for special occasions. Â The food has always been excellent and service was quick and friendly. One of the best dishes is the fillet Oscar.
Also the bar section can be a lot of fun with a lot of locals hanging out. The staff there is equally great and able to mix up a good drink.
My husband and I just returned home from eating at Tommy's this evening (Feb. 18, 2013). Â Our feelings of the restaurant and food can be summed up as "eh". Â I'll explain below:
As an appetizer we ordered the tempura sweet potato fries. Â As lovers of Japanese food, these were not authentic tempura battered. Â They were straight-up lightly rolled in flour and dropped in a fry machine. Â The inside of the sweet potatoes were still hard, as they should have been cooked a bit longer, but even at that they would have come out more greasy and oily than they already were.
Our waiter, Dustin, was polite however and spoke clearly and loud enough so that we could hear him. Â He was attentive and kept us informed when our meal would be ready.
We requested a basket of bread, which ended up being some rolls with melted cheese on top. Â They were soft at first, but after about 2 or 3 minutes, the rolls became hard and rather tough to eat. Â Typically not what happens with actual fresh rolls. Â They were bland and lacking flavor as well, so I wouldn't suggest that anyone request them lest you want to be left disappointed.
I ordered the 8 oz. bacon wrapped filet, and requested it to have no blue cheese on the meat and the red reduction on the side. Â It came with the blue cheese on it, so I had to spend some time scooping all of the cheese off. Â The vegetables that came with the meal were not very much, and were thin and stringy - apparently to make them appear 'fancy' on the plate. Â Wasn't a fan of that. Â The meat itself was good, however. Â The garlic mashed potatoes were good but they were not freshly made and you could taste the large amount of butter that was used in them.
Overall, it is not a great place if you have an allergy to dairy products. Â But if you do like a lot of butter/cheese/grease/oil then this would be a great place for you to eat. Â Â For just my husband and I... our meals, plus appetizer, glasses of water, and no dessert the bill was $83. Â Â I wasn't impressed with the food enough to be going back there and paying that amount again.
Had an AMAZING business lunch meeting at this place today. Service and Food were both great. Â I had the lunch combo: Half Chicken Sandwich & Green Chili Mac&Cheese. DE.LI.CIOUS! Â At first I was skeptical on the name "Green Chili & MacNCheese" together, however, I was pleasantly surprised! Had a kick to it! I'll be in town for three more days and I definitely plan on eating here again before leaving!
Review Source:Not going to place a long message on here. Went for my husband 30th birthday and sat in the exclusive area were we were surrounded by wine. Tommy was super helpful and even suggested my husband to come through the. Ar area and sit while I prepared everyone for his entrance.
It all worked wonderfully, as this was our first birthday dinner party we have done in Visalia. The buffalo wings , wine and bread pudding was our favorite.I plan on coming back here for many more occasions maybe a baby shower ? It was such a nice experience.
Truth be told, I NEVER write reviews. Â Whether my experience is good, bad, or indifferent, I usually keep my comments to myself and allow others the opportunity to judge for themselves. Â HOWEVER, my most recent visit to Tommy's has compelled me to share my thoughts...
...my husband took me here to celebrate my birthday because he knows this was (and still is) my favorite restaurant in Visalia - by far. Â I have never had a bad meal here; in fact, every time I have the opportunity to do so, I take full advantage because I thoroughly enjoy the food. Â So, it didn't come as a big surprise when we devoured our meals with gusto tonight. Â (Hubby ordered the grilled rib-eye and I had the grilled new york steak with mushroom gravy - both cooked to perfection and full of flavor!) Â What really made tonight's experience stand out and be "Yelp worthy" was our delightful server, Anna. Â Not to say that the previous servers I've had at Tommy's in the past were not good, but Anna helped make my birthday dinner even more enjoyable - and we didn't even tell her that it was my birthday until the end of our meal.
Anna was everything you hope for when you go to a nice restaurant - attentive, but not overbearing; informative, but not pushy. Â Had it not been for her suggestion, we would have never known about the AMAZING pan-seared scallops with mango/pineapple salsa that we had to start our scrumptious dinner. Â She also helped me select the perfect wine for my tastebuds, and managed to convert two notoriously non-dessert eating people (my husband and me), into HUGE fans of the infamous Tommy's bread pudding. Â We had heard countless times how delicious the bread pudding was, but because we don't generally care for sweets, we never really entertained the idea to try it. Â Anna, however, offered the bread pudding on the house when we finally told her it was my birthday so we decided to finally taste it...and we were hooked after just one bite! Â Stuffed as we were from our wonderful meals, we managed to find room to finish every last bite of that indulgent bread pudding. Â Hubby said it best when he described it as the lovechild of a donut and a churro in an unbelievably good praline (I think?) sauce! Â By the way, if you are like me and HATE raisins, don't worry - this bread pudding is not like traditional ones that have raisins, it's simply worth trying.
So thank you, Tommy's, for yet another fantastic meal - and a special kudos and thanks to Anna for surpassing our expectations. We were already fans of Tommy's prior to this experience, but Anna's service merited Yelp praise from even a typically non-Yelper :)
Best burger, EVER!!! If I was locked up in prison and had to order my very last dish, I would ask for a Boca Burger from Tommy's! French fries were crispy and warm, great seasoning. Pretty pricey for a burger, but well worth it. One night I went after fasting (I don't know if it was some religious holiday lol) and I ordered a Boca. The only thing I didn't like was when the waiter asked if I would like another plate to share with my friend...LOL! What was he trying to say?! I shouldn't eat it all on my own?! Anyway, http://amazing.com!
The bartender was legit and made me feel like I was in a Coyote Ugly film. He was throwing drinks out left and right and managed to make a personal connection with everyone. Great ambiance, great food, and great drinks! I loved their vodka cranberry drink. Soooo good!
On my way to Sequoia NP for the weekend, I thought I'd take my single girl self out for a date. We sat at the bar in the lounge, had a couple beers, tried the burger, and then ordered the bread pudding to go because we are fat.
The bread pudding is good. The beers are cheap. The burger was huge. But GREASY! I know it's a goddamn burger, and fat is par for the course, but this was a little much. Hence why I got the bread pudding to go. I'm a sucker for bread pudding.
I always enjoy dinner and dessert at Tommy's. They have great bread pudding and cheesecake. The dinner was good, but I'm only giving it four stars because of the dessert. They were out of cheesecake and we wanted to try something new so we ordered the S'Mores for two. I imagined unique or homemade marshmallows and some version of a graham cracker or cookie to go with it. What came out was store bought marshmallows and graham crackers with chocolate sauce and a burner. It was something a child could put together. Yes, it was s'mores but I could do this myself for less than a few dollars. The pastry chef should be ashamed to have this on the dessert menu. It's cheap, tacky, and lacks talent or creativity. This dessert needs some attention and thought or take it off the menu.
Review Source:I love Tomny's first of all, this was just a horrible experience. Â My friend and I went to Tommy's for a night out, which we have done at Tommy's many time, always having a wonderful time. Â
After being seated, we were greeted shortly after by the waiter. Â Then he left us.....for 20 minutes. Â Finally I went up to the host (manager) and let him know that we wanted to cancel the bottle of wine from our order since we had not been given even a glass of water. Â Finally, after being counseled I am sure, the waiter comes to the table with water. Â About 30 minutes later, the waiter comes with our food.
I love the food here, it is awesome always!! Â The server, again, no where to be found. Â Finally he brings the check, which is all wrong. Â We had brought a http://Resturaunts.com certificate, which he forgot about., Â He took the check back to change it, which took almost 30 minutes. Â He came back and it looked right so I gave him my debit card and my friend gave her $40 to have the bill split and charged equal. Â Needless to say, that didn't happen. Â After having the manager sit with us for 15 minutes (and take over the entire process) it got straightened out.
What bugs me the most about the whole situation.....the manager knew we were having a horrible experience, but didn't offer to give us anything for our patience and trouble. Â As mom's, we get out about once every six months.....we deserve a break! Â The least they could have done was comped us a dessert or a glass of wine, but he never even offered. Â At least the bill was handled and we got out of there....after our 2 1/2 hour experience! Â I think we will try another place next time.
Where do I begin??? Oh yeah it all began when I bought a Groupon. I saw a Groupon offered for $50 worth of food for $25. I had remembered some co-workers had talked about this being a good place to eat, and the fact that they were offering a discount was enough to get my attention. I also wanted to try it, because the restaurant's name is the same as my husband and I thought it would make a good birthday gift for him.
Well my husband just had his birthday and we ate here the day before. It is in downtown Visalia, by the Fox Theater. The parking is a little awkward, due to the one-way streets downtown. That is the only reason I didnt give this place 5 stars.
I had called ahead to make reservations, as they reccommend you do so on the weekends. I am not the type of person that frequents places that do reservations, just because I like to keep it casual and do things spontaneously. But since it was the hubby's birthday I didnt want to have a long wait.
We walked in and were immediately greeted and seated. And when I said I had a reservation, they greeted me by name. We were taken to an intimate part of the restaurant and our waiter came by to get our drink order and to tell us the specials.
We ordered the Steak Nachos as an Appetizer and they were awesome!!! They had a really good presentation when they came out and they tasted even better than they looked. The only thing I would do next time is ask that they leave the roated jalapenos off. My husband loves spicy, but I dont, and since I was there for his special day I wanted him to have them the way he likes.
I ordered the 8oz Filet topped w/ bleu cheese, garlic mashers and veggies. My husband ordered the Prime Rib, that I guess is only served on the weekends. The food came out and looked awesome. My filet was great, cooked just the way that I ordered it and the bleu cheese had a good flavor. The vegetables were nice, it was a mix up squash, zuchinni, bell peppers and onions. The garlic mashers were decent, but it seemed as if they left the potatoes in the water too long or they didnt add milk. I cant put my finger on it but something was missing.
My husbands prime rib was also served with garlic mashers and veggies w/ a side of au jus and horseradish. He had me taste his, and it was really good...but not as good as my filet, lol.
During our meal we overheard someone ask for bread. My husband and I are bread lovers, so we asked for some. Our server said they only pass bread out by request now, due to there being a lot of waste which is understandable.
After our delicious meal, we made sure to order the Bread Pudding. As I read fellow Yelpers reviews, everyone said the same thing 'Try the bread pudding.' I am glad that I took their advice because it was out of this world, not just in taste but also presentation. I often order dessert anywhere that I eat, but rarely do I finish it. This time however, I finished every single bite!!! My husband, who is not really a dessert person, was also fighting me for the last few bites. We were stuffed, but we didnt want to waste any. The praline sauce is incredible.
I am so looking forward to going back here, even if it is just for the steak nachos and bread pudding. My birthday is coming up so I think it's time to start dropping hints in the hubby's ear.
It's really...GOOD. And good isn't bad, but I wasn't moved by the food. (except for the bread pudding, but we'll talk about that later). I start every place at five stars, and then see if it can stay that way. Here's how it went.
My hubby and I go here for an early dinner. We're here about 5:30 on a Saturday. We were seated immediately with no reservations. Very good, still at a five....
There were only two other parties that were dining. I ordered the Prime Rib with a salad and my hubby ordered the blue cheese steak. We also ordered a bottle of Francis Coppola Cabernet.
At first impression, the upscale feel is there. However, once you are seated, things start to pop out.
1.) The fake flower bouquets. I couldn't get my eyes off of them. It looks tacky in here. The flowers, ivy and trees are clearly fake and it takes away from the feel of the restaurant. I understand the moss topiary, those are okay. But every other fake arrangement just doesn't suit the place.
2.) The bathroom. It doesn't bother me that there's only one bathroom, I don't care that it looks old, (I think that brings charm) but what DID stand out was the puffy paint on the walls. The gold Fleur De Lis' do not fit this place. It looks cheap.
3.) The linens are shredding at the seams. Small detail, but people will notice these things.
So now we're at a three. But back to the food....
The salad was great. It was more of a fruit and garden salad. It came with raisins, strawberries, oranges and nuts. It was delicious.
The wine was excellent. We've had this wine before, it costs about $17 bucks at Costco...it's $40 here. I understand mark up, but this seemed steep.
Up until now, we were still at three stars.
Our food comes out. My prime rib is huge. You definitely fill up the plate with this 16 oz piece of meat. But the fat on this prime rib was a bit excessive. After trimming all of the fat off, it looked like John Candy's plate from the Great Outdoors. Too much! Also, my husband and I both ordered a medium steak. It came out well done. We overheard the table next to us return his steak for the same reason. Overcooked.
So after the food, I'm down to a two. We didn't bother to return the steaks, they were fine, but not worth the money. Now comes dessert. I heard about this bread pudding, and I was looking for redemption...I found it in this little boat of heaven!!
IT'S SO YUMMY!! The bread comes out mega hot, and it's swimming in this creamy sauce. There is a generous heaping of whip cream and it is adorned with a flower. I wanted to dip the flower in the sauce and eat it. By far the best item I ate on the menu....and that's how Tommy's became a three for me.
My wife and I both had filets they were cooked to perfection. One was medium rare and one medium; both were melt in your mouth good. Â Bread pudding was outstanding. Â Wife enjoyed the Francis Coppola Cab. Â Service was painfully slow. $34 for the filet, well worth the price. Â Patrons were dressed from casual to dressy. Make a reservation. Food highly recommended 5 star, service not so much 3 star.
Review Source:GREAT food, the peppered New York steak was amazing! My only complaint is that our server was seriously less than attentive. He barely noticed us after the food hit the table. Once we finished eating, it was 10 minutes and us flagging down another server before he came back. He asked about dessert but at that point it was too close to our movie showtime, even though we had wanted it. We mentioned our showtime and he still took a long to bring our bill, which was wrong, so then another 15 minutes to get it fixed and brought back. By that time i was completely unthrilled with the automatic 18% gratuity but let it stand so we could make it to the theatre. I'm sure we'll go back, just hoping for a better experience.
Review Source:Tough call between 4 & 5 stars first the good:
- Great martinis big and good value.
- Wine by the glass selection good choices.
- Food is solid
- Wedge is a really good one.
- Wait staff is good.
The not so good.
- Food can be a little saucy so if that is not your thing, just beware.
- It is a little bright for a high end restaurant.
I guess the only reason for not 5 stars, i just did not get that really high end feel as a Morton's, Ruth Chris etc. this is a good restaurant and you cannot go wrong and I will be back but i just could not give it that 5th star.
One of the top 3 eateries in Visalia. Â Have been here many times over the last several years, and I have not had a bad meal. Â I seem to always stick with a Ribeye or NY strip; but ventured out to try the meatloaf dish...yes, you read that right; a meatloaf. Â Believe me, this is not a Marie Calendars meatloaf special
Tommys really knows how to transform your grandmas meatloaf into something amazing. Â Im going to find it hard to NOT order the meatloaf every time I come here now. Â It was totally juicy, meaty, and had a delicious glaze. Â Besides amazing, the other word that comes to mind is succulent. Waygu beef in the mix, possibly?
JR was a totally laid back and attentive server, and appreciated that he made my birthday special. Â JR is a cool cat transplant from San Diego, if you get in his section he wont disappoint.
Oh, and like others have said, the Bread Pudding cant miss.
Steve out
I have to say it took me a while to finally go pay Tommy's a visit. It looked undefined and I wasn't sure if it was a trendy "California grill", or a steak house in disguise. Â However, I finally committed and took my dearest out for her birthday. Â It was nothing short of amazing. Â Service was great, our steaks cooked to perfection! Â Finished with a to-die-for bread pudding dessert, compliments of the house! Â It is not often my dearest tells me "you can bring me back any time"! Â Needless to say, I will be paying Tommy's future visits.
I do have to say one thing...what's up with the chile verde in the menu?
(Actually I give it 4.5 stars) The woman at the front desk was very helpful and attentive. She answered every question we had.
The food taste was great but I have some comments about it.
I ordered the prime rib (outer cut?) and only vegetables because I have some potato allergy. The vegetable serving was small even though I asked for double vegetables instead of a potato. I can't imagine how small a single serving of vegetables is! Everything had tons of flavor although the beef had a hint of teriyaki beef jerky - it almost tasted artificial because it was so strong. The vegetables were good but not the freshest. I'm not saying they were bad at all but they weren't right from the garden.
My Grandmother and her friend ordered the steak and salad and the chicken breast and salad and they both loved it. We all shared a bite of food and it was great. They LOVED their food. The price was also good on their dishes since the steak and chicken were add-ons.
I don't like the fact that their sides pretty much consist of garlic mashed potatoes and baked potatoes. It's a little cheap IMO and a lazy way to put content on the menu. It's almost like they have 5 ingredients (not seasoning - I mean actual meats and vegetables) to work with and everything on the menu is made from them. "We have potatoes - check. We have garlic - check. We have meat - check. Now let's put 20 items on the menu and see if we can put it past the customers that everything isn't made from these ingredients."
I know that sounds scathing-but I have to be a little critical of Visalia's most upscale restaurant. It's like they had a fresh graduate from the culinary academy come in with a great (but overeager) taste for food but only paid him to come up with half a menu selection. The restaurant doesn't have the clout to be able to pull off the ultra simplistic menu and get away with it without people seeing their food come and realize that the difference between the Asian salad and the regular is a different color dressing (I'm exaggerating).
I feel this place has wayyy too much show than go and wouldn't quite impress the finest critics. That brings me to the decor. As someone else said it seems stuck in the 90's - I wouldn't say that but it seemed like the place was not professionally designed but pieced together from Target and Ikea. Â I didn't get the feeling I was really in an upscale restaurant. Things weren't hidden enough (like Disneyland - you never see the stuff behind the scenes) to match the design they are trying to achieve. Asian inspired paintings on one wall and then wood "steakhouse" paintings on the other wall.
Our waiter was nice and also attentive like the owner(?). He had no problem going to the back to ask about how the food was made or whatever else we asked about.
Our margarita drinks were a bit watered down- hardly any alcohol. But still tasty!
Don't get me wrong - this place is great. It seems like I'm tearing it to shreds (and maybe I am) but this is just how I felt.
I wouldn't hesitate to come back here but only after a trip to the other nice restaurants in town to see how things taste. I have a feeling I wouldn't find something a good as Tommy's in Visalia but I would have to try.
If the owner reads this - please try to interpret my harsh comments in a constructive way and read through the lines. Your restaurant is great, clean, and the service and food is excellent. How could someone write a review like the above and give it 4.5 stars? Because it's good!
Food here is always great!!! Â Only problem was they got the cooking of my steak and someone else's at the tables mixed up so mine was overdone and hers was underdone, but there were a lot of us ordering two different kind of steaks so it happens, the flavor was still awesome!!! Â Would love to come back more often but it is so pricey! Â
Oh and the sweet potato fries were the best I've ever had!!
Nice variety on the lunch menu here. Â Some our group's favorite dishes:
Homemade Individual Pizza - Â looked and tasted beautiful, served artfully with a small salad.
Sweet Potato Fries - strips the size of regular fries seemed to be dipped in a very light tempura coating, fried just right, and served topped with a delicious honey, and jalapeno dressing and a drizzle of a cream sauce, perhaps aoli.
Asian Chicken Salad ( also available w/ Seafood, or meatless ) was beautiful, plentiful and had a lovely sesame soy dressing on the side.
Homemade Pasta ( of the day ) today: Penne Pasta with Grilled Vegetables and an "Alfredo Sauce" that took on the flavors and color of the vegetables.
"Green Salad" added to entree was replete with baby greens, tomatoes, diced zucchini, carrots, purple cabbage, sliced almonds and served with a delicious homemade ranch dressing. Â It was a joy to the eyes as well as tasting great.
Homemade Desserts were fantastic:
Chocolate Cake with a delightful ganache filling, dipped in chocolate coating and topped with whipped cream
Strawberry Cheese Cake with an "Oreo" crust, drizzled with strawberry reduction, and topped with fresh strawberries and whipped cream
Bread Pudding with Praline Sauce - This was the best of the best ! Â Light, well blended, fluffy, served warm with a wonderful praline sauce that was creamy. Â The combination of flavors was incredible. Â When we requested the recipe ( I know, "fat chance!" ) Â the waitress said they would be sued as well as fired for revealing it !
The lunch menu also offered Prime Rib sandwich among many other great sounding choices. Â This is considered a fine dining restaurant and is fairly expensive, but I still can make a few suggestions that can help with the cost:
Recession Fighting Tips - Â for a very pleasant lunch for Two:
__________________________________________________Â_____
Appetizer: Sweet Potato Fries w/ honey jalepeno sauce $9
One Entree of your choice ( around $8 - 15, many come with a large serving of perfectly cooked fries )
Add a "Green Salad" - very abundantly serves two $3
Dessert: Bread Pudding $7 ( all desserts are $7 )
You won't feel stuffed, but will have enjoyed a very delicious and varied meal without much of a dent in your wallet !
went for G's early birthday celebration.
service was good. our waiter did a good job (although he did talk a lot) and our glasses were never empty.
started off with a calamari app. everything tasted great minus the very chewy calamari. that was the only downside. otherwise the flavor contrast was great.
kobe burger was big and juicy. fries were amazing. overall kobe burger was pretty good, nothing that will make me crave or go back. although those fries were pretty damn good.
G's steak covered in what looked like chili verde i didn't care for. it tasted burnt.
Bread pudding was pretty legit. i'd say it's pretty close to cracked pepper's. but the plus was we got it for free do to G's birthday.
Overall good place.
Simply yummy. Came over on new years eve for a dinner with the fiance and sister and it is by far one of the best dining experiences ive had here in visalia.
Food:
Appetizer: Calamari: Fried calamari that isnt greasy and has a thick yet light tasting batter coating around it topped with some kind of mixed olive salad coated with a vinaigrette dressing that just compliments the dish very well. I dont even like olives but this was sooooo good with the calamari!
Entrees: I had the ny steak with chile relleno. The steak was the best steak ive had in a while, and im going to pretty much admit that im a self proclaimed steak whore and that i get around with the local restaraunts steaks. This steak was cooked TO PERFECTION, seasoned expertly and had a slight crust on the outside. I also ordered the garlic mashed potatoes which were creamy and yummy though nothing too "omg wow!". Okay, now as much as i am going to rave about most of the meals here, i will admit that if u like chili rellenos, you should stick to ordering those at actual mexican places...this one was...meh.
My sister and fiance both got the kobe beef burgers. Best burger ive had in forever!!!! The beef practically melts in your mouth as u picture all those cows getting thier daily massages so that this meat ur tasting can be so moist, juicy and delectably delicious. Its really giving your palate the ultimate orgasm as your chewing and expierencing such quality. The burger if i recall correctly, comes with cheese, lettuce, bacon, and a gaucomole spread.....and the bun is from an onion loaf thats toasted.
Dessert: Bread pudding was pretty awesome. I wont say it was the best as ive had others that in my opinion exceeds whats served here, but it was pretty good and def worth getting. The bread putting is thick and dense with a yummy praline sauce thats surprisingly not too sweet of over powering.
we also got the s'more dessert which is super fun to do and eat! It comes on this huge platter with a cup of marshmellows, a cup of melted chocolate and a little bowl with wood thats inflammed with a cute little fire theyve started up for u. Also on this huge [latter were grahm crackers dusted with powdered sugar and little cute mini forks for u to roast ur marshmellos in and dip into the melted chocolate. Very fun. Nothing special or secretive about making it but def a fun expierence to try for the whole crowd.
Based on the previous reviews, I was pretty excited to check Tommy's out.
Atmosphere: no real complaints, dining room is sorta okay looking, but nothing special. Â I was sort of thrown off by the pink/violet lighting in the lounge; I think I saw Sunny Crocket and Tubbs drinking Heinekins.
Dinner: was there for a friends birthday; Â Menu: Ok, Â I was disappointed not to see a Sirloin steak on the menu at a steakhouse. Â Like a big 'bone in" sirloin for example.
There were some apps on the tables: I don't think Gordon Ramsey would be pleased. Â But I'm no Gordon Ramsey, so I ate a few things, enjoyed them, but they didn't seem to reflect what I perceived to be the quality of the restaurant. Â The apps were more "pub" food. Â Talking stuffed mushroom, fried Wings w/ Blue cheese, some sweet potato fries.
I like a 'beefy' flavor steak, so Sirloin not being an option, go to the NY. Â I'm not a fan of ribeyes because often they're hit or miss. Â I order the pretty straight forward NY (no sauces) cooked Medium Rare to Rare. Â
Waiter says: "Do you want it Medium Rare, or Rare"
Me: "I'd like it Medium Rare to Rare, or more to the rare side, how does the kitchen cook?" (some waiters know the guy on the grill can be a bit off)
Waiter: "they cook spot on perfect"
Me: "Ok, I want it Medium Rare to Rare"
Waiter: " that would be Medium Rare"
Me: "Fine"
Arrives: standard 12 oz NY slapped on a pad of mashed potatoes (nothing special, green beans (nothing special). Â It looks hot; I cut into it to check done-ness, and it's frickin medium. Â Oh well. I don't want to cause a big scene b/c were at a large table with friends for a celebration. Â I really should have just sent it back and gotten a steak that was Medium Rare to Rare.
Service: Attentive, proficient, generally good.
Ok final review: I've had better steaks at Outback. Â It certainly ain't Ruth's Chris or my local favorite in SB Holdren's. Â Seems stuck in the 90's. Â Might be great for Visalia.
I've only been to Tommy's once but it was excellent! I had a steak sandwich and fries. The fries were the type that were so fresh and hot that you didn't know if you were even going to make it to the sandwich. My friend got a hamburger with green chile which she and other girls refer to as the "orgasm burger." So I think next time I go I might try that.
Review Source:Wow! This was our second time having a meal at Tommy's, this time in the dining room and Wow!! Fantastic!!! Our server was insanely good - attentive without being buggy, super in tune with our likes and dislikes and just plain "on it". The dining room is so classy and romantic, quiet and intimate. The menu was full of wonderful selections and everything we ate was so tasty and well prepared. Love the chef here and love what Tommy's is doing. This place is so worth check out for date night. They even sat us without question even though we didn't have a reservation which it looks like they might prefer - thankfully it was a quiet night.
Review Source:The boyfriend and I decided to spend New Years in Visalia since his family and my favorites are in town! Â The debate was between Harris Ranch, Vintage Press, Fugazzis, and Tommys. Â It turned out to be an easy final decision. Â Harris Ranch was too far and the 1800 crew was not being very helpful. Â Then the boyfriend called Tommys. Â Michelle answered the phone and provided excellent service. Â At first they said they were booked and the only time they had available was 530 for dinner. Â That was too early for us so we wanted to try a couple other places. Â He told her to please call him back if anything comes up. Â We then called Vintage Press and the lady was not helpful at all. Â She was actually quite unpleasant. Â They had 9:00pm available so we reserved that time. Â Thankfully, awesome Michelle called us back and told us they have an 8:30pm slot open! Â She actually moved some things around just to fit us in! Â So super duper sweet! Â We were nice enough to call Vintage Press back to cancel. Â Anyway...on to the main item: FOOD!!!
To start off we had:
Stuffed Mushrooms: Â Very good! Â My favorite of the night!
Sizzling beef: Â Good, the taste wasn't too spectacular, but the presentation and the deliverance was good. Â They came in a sizzling plate, cooked the beef, and poured on the secret sauce :D Â Very nice touch!
Butternut Squash Soup: Â Good, although it tasted like the butternut squash soup from San Francisco Soup Company.
Main Entrée: Surf and Turf. 8oz mignon and lobster tail served with green chili mashed potatoes. The mignon was good. The lobster tail was really good. But the winner on the plate is the mashed potatoes! UMMM....kinda sad to say but I like it the most because it's a taste I haven't had before and it was really good!
Dessert: Â we had to have the Tommy's Bread Pudding. Â It was pretty good. Â The bread was a little bit too dense for me though. Â A little bit fluffier with pudding oozing out would be a lot better!! Â :D Â I'm still in love with the bread pudding at Fly Restaurant in Tampa, FL.
Overall, we had an awesome New Year's Eve at Tommy's. Â The staff was great and super friendly. Â Our server was Ian and he great. Â Gotta give major props to Michelle though to make it happen for us!
probably the best dining experience i've had in,.. well, ever.
the service was excellent, the food was better and the dessert was freakin awesome!
ordered a glass of wine from the bar and the bartender, who wasn't very busy, handed me a dripping glass of wine. seriously wine was running down the side of the glass, all over his hand and onto the bar. no big deal, i just wasn't really expecting that.
honestly do not leave this place without trying the bread pudding.
Where will you spend you stimulus money??? Â I will spend mine at Tommy's. Â My wife and I have eaten there several times and each time it was yummylious! Â I have tried several steaks but my favorite is the rib-eye cooked on a cedar plank. Â I mentioned to our server that was my favorite item from Emerils restaurant in Las Vegas, and then was told that Chief Tommy was from one of his restaurant.
There are some very similar dishes on the menu that I have seen at many of Emerils restaurants around the US and this place nailed them as good or even better! Â Based on what I have ordered as well my wife and friends you cannot go wrong on any main course, but make room for Bread Pudding with the whisky sauce, your taste buds will thank you. Â Make sure to get your own, trust me your wife will not share!
Bring your AMEX of a lot of cash, this place is not cheep, but worth every penny. Â But remember, you can go to Apple Bee's for lunch; this place is where you want to tell your friends that you had dinner and watch them drool from your experience. Â Living in Hanford that the best restaurant in town is Chili's we have to drive to Fresno or Visalia for a great meal, so no matter where you live you need to try Tommy's.
This is a truly fine restaurant. The menu is varied, interesting and good; every item we ordered was cooked to perfection and a little unusual in the best way. An excellent wine list and prompt seating (with our reservation), and very pleasant service. The atmosphere is unusual and relaxing but also exciting.
If you live in the area, and haven't tried this, TRY IT. Â If you're passing through Visalia and are looking for a truly fine meal, this is for you.
