Have been here a few times and it is always good. Â They have a great happy hour that goes from 3 - 6 with a nice variety of drinks and appetizers. Â The service is excellent, very prompt, friendly and knowledgable about the menu and the wine. Â There is also a beautiful outdoor seating area with a view of Mt. Rainier, too bad there is a busy road and train track so close.
Review Source:I've eaten at Toscanos several times, however my favorite thing to do is sip a Bombay Saphire martini at the bar on a Friday evening. The atmosphere is fun and I've heard some great local musicians. The food has been spotty, but it's a great Friday night date with your best friend over a cocktail or glass of wine!
Review Source:MARCH MARTINI MADNESS!!!! Â If you have not experienced March Martini Madness at Toscanos, you're missing out! Signature martinis change weekly in the month of March and are themed to match the fancy, hand-painted martini glass that you receive when you order one of those specialty cocktails off the menu (limit of 2 glasses per customer). Â The themed martinis are created months before the actual event, and they are delicious!! Â Lee, the bartender, definitely knows how to make a fantastic martini, and if you ask nicely, he might even give you a sample if you're having a tough time deciding which tasty concoction you want to order. Â Remember to get there early in the week as they have been running out of glasses within 1-2 days even though they increased the number of glasses from last year... this is a popular event!! Â The appetizers at Toscanos are also fabulous... my favorite is the macaroni and cheese, which is only listed on the happy hour menu but can be ordered at any time (hint, hint, wink, wink... it's totally worth remembering to order!). Â The staff are extremely friendly and are always smiling! Â The atmosphere is classy yet relaxing... it's a beautiful little cafe! Â My favorite spot is either at the bar or at a table near the fireplace. Â And in the summer they have patio seating outside. Â Prices are good and the wine selection is amazing! Â I really can't say enough nice things about this place!! Â This is my third year of March Martini Madness, and I love all my hand-painted glasses as each year is unique. Â I will definitely be going back!! Â Cheers!!!
Review Source:In the past, we've been very pleased with the quality of the food, decor, and service at Toscano's. Monday night was a complete disappointment. We waited for nearly an hour after being told that we would wait for only 35 to 40 minutes. We watched as four or five cleared tables sat empty, in some cases over a half hour before anybody was seated at them. All the while probably a dozen people (or more) crowded the entrance waiting to be seated, many of us with drinks in hand as they offered to serve us drinks while we waited. Once we finally were seated, the service was unusually slow, and our server only stopped by a couple of times to check on our drinks. The food was good (as always), but the entire experience was ruined by having to stand around for an hour waiting for a table while tables were clearly available and not being used. If the tables were being saved for a reservation, then why did these people never show up (or showed up 30 minutes late). Also, perhaps the speed and service would have been better once we were seated if they had not focused on serving drinks to people waiting for tables and instead focused on getting people seated in a timely manner and taking care of the customers who had been seated and were ready to order.
Their menu is limited with almost no vegetarian options. The food they do offer is very good, and has many seafood entrees.
My 2 stars is an average of 1 star for the service and 4 stars for the food.
We dropped in without a reservation shortly before closing. Had an amazing server, Andrew, who was very knowledgeable of the menu and helpful in making recommendations.
Our appetizer was martini clams, a large portion of steamed clams served in an oversized martini glass. The clams were good and the broth was excellent; we sopped as much of it up as possible with the fresh bread that was provided.
My entree was veal parmigiana. I have tried this dish at numerous restaurants and the preparation at Toscanos was one of the best I have ever eaten. The veal is served in silver dollar sized medallions rather than as just one large chunk of meat and the breading is light rather than overpowering. Absolutely delicious.
My companions both had oysters and were delighted with the portion size and flavor. Despite the late hour, our server didn't make us feel rushed and stopped by regularly to refill our drinks.
Overall, a fine dining experience that rivals that found in a much more expensive big city restaurant.
Summary: Great food, 5-star service, and great dining room. One of the best all-around dining experiences in years.
Detail:
We started with the day's starter special: roast olives. A mix of sliced red and green peppers, halved cherry tomatoes and olives - kalamata and green, roasted in olive oil and rosemary. Served with warm toasted Italian bread. Never before had roasted olives and we're already making plans to make this dish ourselves. The olives were warm and the olive 'meat' fell off the pit. A perfect anti-pasta.
Donna's entree was the roasted (Chinook) salmon with basil strawberries and risotto. Done to perfection - both the salmon and the risotto. And while I had never thought to serve roasted strawberries with salmon, it worked perfectly. The strawberries added a perfect touch of sweetness, and acidity without overpowering the salmon.
I had one of the specials: Vodka shrimp and crab fettuccine. A nice 'pink sauce' -- tomato cream - and a ton of rock crab meat and smallish (not popcorn) shrimp. Al dente pasta. A fantastic dish that I hope makes it onto their regular menu.
Finally, the service was exceptional, thanks to server Laurie. Fast, precise and courteous. But most importantly, incredibly aware of her customers. After another server delivered our starter, Laurie immediately come over to note to us that the olives still had their pits -- then caught the young woman who brought out the dish and quietly reminded her to let the customers know to expect pits in that dish. Â More importantly, she stopped by as soon as we started on our entree to check on us. Donna mentioned the food was good, but the salmon was just a touch over cooked. Not inedible or anything, but not perfect. Laurie immediately said, "I'll take care of this," and went back to the kitchen. She was back almost immediately to let us know the chef had a new fillet on for her and it would be out ASAP. Within 5 or 6 minutes, Donna and I new complete entree plate and this time, everything was perfectly done -- absolutely stellar service, Â I was already thrilled with my meal and Donna was 90% happy. But Laurie made sure Donna was 100% happy as quickly as possible. 5-star service for sure!
Final note: Their made-fresh-daily chocolate truffles are incredible (and Laurie presented us with a couple "for our trouble") Again, amazing service. Â We'll be back to what was already one of our favorite restaurants.
Friend of mine and I went here last night for a glass of wine and some apps. I'm a wine noob so the waiter was kind enough to suggest one for me based on what little I know about what I like in a wine. His suggestion was great. It was exactly what I was looking for.
We ordered the Bruschetta which was good and the Martini Clams which we didn't expect to be such a large dish. Sweet! Service and atmosphere were great. It was near closing time so it was quiet--just what I needed! I will definitely be back when I'm in the area.
Oh lord I don't even know where to start....
This is one of those reviews I dread writing because it makes me feel like a terrible person... BUT I'm an unbiased reviewer and feel that my experience was so extremely sub-par that I have to leave an honest review. Here it goes.
I ventured to Toscano's with a couple friends for dinner as our friend has said they did a wine night there and had a good time. We didn't do a wine night though, we went for dinner and I regretted it.
We waited about 15 minutes before anyone came to take our order (and in that time we had a couple different servers bring napkins, water, etc, so we weren't sure who to ask), so we kept chatting away. We finally put in our order and 45 minutes later our simple dishes of Spaghetti and a chicken dish came out and they were pretty flavorless. My boyfriend's said his spaghetti noodles were "burnt-tasting."
I'm thinking this place is better for wine-nights and maybe not so much for food if you've got a developed palate.
Been going here on and off for a couple of years, Â Sometimes the specials are not quite what I was looking for. Their Margarita pizza can be very good with its cracker crisp crust and tangy goodness from the tomatoes. GREAT wine selection and fairly reasonably priced.
Last time we had a chance to put their customer service to the test. I called at 11:30 to place reservations and had an answering machine help me. Â Called back hours later to confirm and they had no record of my reservation - they did not have a spot for my hoped for 6:30 spot - but they had one at 5 and one at 7:45. I was not happy and I told them so. Â The hostess said to come at 6:30 - she would make it happen. Â She did and we had a perfect spot for two next to the fireplace. Â Next we went to use our anniversary coupon. Alas coupons are not valid on Fridays, - but they were very hospitable about it - the manager extending the expiration date on the card and comped us an appetizer. Oh, and the food that night was tremendous. Â
Someday they will get 5 stars for consistency and breadth of menu selection (not complicated - but something for everyone - consider Marzano's menu - now that is a menu!)
+ Great atmosphere
+ Solid wine list
- Food is horrible, burnt and hardly any flavor
- Takes forever to get your food (waited about an hour for our food)
- Expensive
If you are looking for a nice place to go for wine then this place might do the trick. They have a great outdoor patio area.
If you are looking for food this is not the place.
we went there last night based on the yelp reviews we read. the cosmo i had with stoli orang was not the best cosmo i have ever had but it takes a touch to make a drink.
i should have known.
the bowl of cheap balsamic vinegar and runny diluted oil is just disgusting. we had them make us a plate of olive oil and herbs, salt and pepper...the bread was not fresh tho we were told it was.
we ordered some kind of seafood cake....i asked if it were made to order and i was told it was....bald faced lie. the inside breading was mushy, the lobster was fake and all in all it tasted like bell pepper
i ordered the oysters oreganato, which is really called oreganata....what i got was this soggy thick battery mess and the oysters, which were not fresh, were bitter....sent that back and ordered the caesar salad. took one bite of the crouton and it wa soggy.
i walked it to the kitchen and asked the manager to taste one. he did and agreed. i then asked when they made the croutons and was told they were made at the beginning of the shift, four hours earlier...
the chef and i use that word with very broad definition.....actually sent out the egg wash with herbs and generic bread crumbs used to make the oreganata....which only showed me she has no idea what she's doing.
of course, the wait staff and manager were peaches. we did not pay for what i ordered....
i am so tired of going to restaurants who charge 17 - 28 dollars for an entree and do not deliver. at all.
eat at your own peril.
Went once and have never returned. Â I liked their wine selection and enjoyed the appetizers. Â I was blown away by how terrible the entrees were! Â I ordered a tuna dish and it tasted like they warmed up something from the Gordon's fisherman in the microwave. Â You can't charge that kind of money to heat up something for me in the microwave!
The service was average. Â The atmosphere was average to above average for a wine bar. Â I love wine, so a nearby wine bar was exciting for me. Â Too bad the food turned out to be so bad.
Overall: Â Maybe a good choice for happy hour, but not for dinner.
A Place for Girl's Night .
Great atmosphere for talking with your friends, memorable martinis, respectable food, and good customer service
At my first visit I had a lovely Dreamsicle Martini and the Gorgonzola Ravioli. The dreamsicle was supper yummy and the restaurant had no problem making the pasta dish without hazelnuts, which I am allergic to. Â The food is respectable. Not the class of Seattle restaurants but for Puyallup pretty much the best place I have found so far.
At my second visit I had the Dreamsicle martini and Cucumber Basil Martini, Tomato Basil Bruschetta, Steak Trio and Bleu Chicken Flatbread Pizza. Again the food not memeroable but gosh that Cucumber Basil Martini is amazing. The incredible thing is that the staff remembered me and my friend and our food and drink preferences from the prior visit. Talk about service.
The food is always good but the service always sucks. So far 30 min for the waitress to take the order; going on an hour to get the food. And the bread is a no-show. Â We really enjoy coming here, but it seems they just can't get their staffing right. Â Even the manager was out trying to assist with getting orders filled. Â Our dinner came after we'd been there about 1.5 hours, but it was delicious and did not taste like it had been sitting in the kitchen waiting on the waitress; it was hot out of the oven tasting. Â I had the chicken and fettecini with garlic cream sauce which was great as the sauce was light and not heavy on the cream.
I recommend this place it you have a lot of time to sit and wait.
I really want to love this place, but every time I've gone it has just been meh. The restaurant itself looks great, and the ambiance is nice. I've been here a few times for drinks and I can say that the drinks are good, but for the price they don't keep me coming back. Onto the food, I've mostly had the sandwiches and pastas. Everything is good, just not great. I probably will stop in this summer though, to sit on the patio for dinner one evening. There is a great fireplace and nice seating out there, so for me thats worth a trip.
Review Source:As a previous Washingtonian, Toscano's often ends up being a meeting point on my trips home to meet White River classmates and other Seattle-area friends. Â It's not all the way up the hill, but doesn't involve driving into a city. Â Fair compromise. Â Other restaurant features teeter between good and "eh". Â
The good: Â Drinks. Â The cocktails are fun and varied, with fresh infused-style drinks (cucumber-basil, very refreshing!) and warm, comforting treats (some reindeer Christmas-themed special was one of the best desserts I had all season). Â If you're hitting happy hour, oh who are we kidding, ANY time is good to enjoy a Toscano's cocktail.
The eh: Â The food runs the gamut from all right to pretty good, but I haven't had anything knock my socks off and make me drive three hours up to have it again. Â Last time I was there, I had a vodka and crab pasta that was pretty good, but the house salad was poorly dressed. Â The service can be a little inattentive at times, but isn't terrible. Â
The bad: Â Prices. Â Too high for the portions and quality of the food.
The last of my Seattle reviews unfortunately is the least brazilliant. Â Which is sad, because Toscanos is one of those places that you just really want to like, but things just don't turn out quite right.
My friend raved about this place and all their great food, drinks and cooking classes. Â The restaurant itself was adorable, and unfortunately very small and packed - they couldn't take us 3 gals until 8.
Our first waiter came, took our order, and disappeared. Â Awesome. Â It wasn't until another completely different person came over and explained that he had to leave that we got our food. Â At least she was really nice about things; she saw the expression on my friend's face when she took a taste of her food, and she offered to exchange it for free.
I started off with the Orange Dreamsicle, which is a really yummy nummy creamy orange martini. Â It literally tastes like a melted Creamsicle, and it was the best thing of the night. Â I decided to start with a salad, which had a raspberry vinaigrette and hazelnuts (yum!). Â SInce I wasn't too hungry, I opted for the Toscanos Onion Soup (sorry, no photo because I ate the whole thing before remembering to take a picture) sans the cheese (dang lactard self!). Â It was really, REALLY savory, and it's not something I could've had a big pot of, for it made me crave water like no other.
My friend Jul originally started off with their Italian specialty: sausage and grapes, but this was quickly returned to the kitchen because it wasn't anything like she expected taste-wise (the waiter said that he didn't personally like it but others might) - it was two fat sausages sitting on top of some cooked grapes. Â She ended up exchanging it for a bowl of the same soup I had.
My other friend N ordered the same salad and their pumpkin crab cakes (it was an appetizer portion). Â We expected it to be two cakes, but instead they were three very small, very thin dollar-pancake-sized cakes with not that much flavor. Â Pass for next time.
Unfortunately, none of us had a great experience, although I was the one with the most decent food/drink order. Â For the price, though, the flavors definitely didn't add up. Â I would return to give it a second chance, but only because the other reviews are so great.
I haven't heard good or bad reviews from my peers so I thought maybe we could give Toscano's a chance. Â If I were going for Happy Hour and some appetizers I would have been wowed, no doubt. Â
The hostess looked at us as if her mind had blanked as to what she was supposed to say and do when someone walks in. Â Her discomfort conveyed awkwardness. Â Our server was very nice and very hospitable. Â Even though nearly every table was full when we arrived we did not feel forgotten or neglected.
The wine was smooth and delicious! Â We had the Hyatt wine. Â We had a tomato salad and were going to share so they went ahead and put it on two plates. Â How nice! Â That was a great gesture, but the salad itself was not impressive. Â The lettuce was limp, the mozarella plain and there wasn't much tomato for a tomato salad. Â
The ahi we had for our appetizer was to die for! Â So tender and just a subtleness of flavor on the outside crust. Â
We had the gorgonzola ravioli and the chocolate pork. Â The ravioli was beautiful to the eye, but underwhelming to the taste buds. Â I did not taste the gorgonzola whatsoever. Â But hey, at least it tasted good.
The pork was SO good, the best pork I had ever had. Â We were both pleased with the flavor of the chocolate and the pork.
As I got halfway through one of the pieces of pork I looked and saw that it was completely R A W in the center. Â Not cooked. Â Yikes.
I instantly lost my appetite and mentioned it to the server. Â I felt bad as I hate complaining or being a pest, but raw pork??!! Â I have to say something. Â
She came back a short while later with a message from the cook. Â He told her to let us know that, "they are making pork now that does not have to be completely cooked." Â Apparently he also asked her to offer us a dessert to split. Â Hmmm...I'm pretty sure I don't want anything else that comes from their kitchen dessert or not. Â Who knows what goes on behind the scenes if they do not cook pork up to health department standards. Â I might trust someone to make a drink as long as I am right there but you never know.
I did have to call and report that because they could really make someone sick and the individual I spoke with at the health department assured me pork has always and is always to be fully cooked to a certain temperature.
I was not pleased with the message about the pork. Â They can't "make" pork any different and treating me like an idiot does not help the matter. Â And I had to pay for an undercooked dinner that I could not eat. Â We should have gone to Marzano's.
For my last night in Puyallup, I wanted something I hadn't already had. There's not too much to choose from according to Yelp, but Italian sounded the most promising. That said, I'm glad I chose Toscanos.
The second you walk in, you feel rich. The atmosphere of the room feels super fancy (soft lighting, wood decor, etc.), and though it looks small, there's a second story as well as outdoor seating. We were seated immediately as there weren't many people in the restaurant. With the exception of the music, which was every now and then a pop song instead of Italian music, it was nice a peaceful. While our waiter wasn't necessarily the most knowledgeable or excited, he most definitely did a great job serving us and I would not hold the negative comment against him nor the restaurant itself.
I ordered a tomato salad and the Seafood Fettucini. The salad came rather quickly, which was a delight. It tasted delish, and was a perfect opener for the meal. The seafood was great and had an excellent a variety to it, not to mention the cream sauce which was perfect (didn't get hard or gross when it cooled). Needless to say, I was stuffed after the meal, so no worries about serving size.
When it comes to Italian food, an Italian such as myself knows his stuff. As I always say, not the best, but pretty darn close!
We made reservations for dinner here last Saturday to celebrate a birthday. Â We ended up leaving before all the food arrived as it had been over 2 hours..... After being seated for over a half hour, our order was taken. The waiter returned to say they were out of the "Steak Trio" appetizer. Â I ordered a salad with steak. Â the waiter returned to say they were out of steak. Â I ordered the salad with prawns. Â the brushetta appetizer arrived- it tasted like chopped tomatoes and onions, 0- not a hint of garlic or fresh basil. Â We waited for over an hour for the entrees to be served- had to ask for bread to tide us over. Â When it finally arrived, the pasta w/sausage dish arrived sans sausage. Â It was brought out 10 minutes later, uncut, on an empty plate. Â My salad arrived with shrimp, not prawns. Â The french onion soup was sprinkled with raw green onions. Â This is gourmet? Â We asked to speak with the manager (4 times) and finally another server came out and said she was the acting manager for the evening. Â We ended up leaving and went to another restaurant (at 9:30 pm). Â We did end up speaking with a chef/owner who gave us his business card and said to give him a call before we came in next time, and he would make sure we were treated well. Â Hmmmm........
Review Source:I've eaten at Toscanos dozens of times and they've failed to disappoint me yet! Whether for a quick bite at lunch (The truffled ham & Brie panini is fantastic!), a romantic dinner for two or one of their winemakers dinners, the food is always fresh and amazingly good!
Both the chefs, Tom & Tony always create wonerfully delightful creations and if you ask nicely, they'll even whip up something for you that's not on the menu!
You can't go wrong!
I went a few weeks ago later in the day and sat out on the patio around the fire pit. There were these bugs invading from the river that on any other day would have really made me want a refund, but this place is great! Me and a friend ordered the seafood fettuccine and it was really great. Big prawns, hunks of salmon and scallops in a rich creamy white sauce that didn't get gooky and 'done' after it cooled down. They have a mixed drink that has cucumber in it that is really good. It's been a while so I forgot the name, but it's a totally new favorite that I've never had before. For dessert  we shared a blueberry cheesecake slice. More like mound. The waitress was not lying when she said the desserts are made for two! I'm totally going back soon for Adult Sno-cones on a Thursday this summer!
Review Source:I've had lunch at Toscano's on several occasions and have enjoyed the well-presented food and service every time. Â The atmosphere is very nice with a natural and rustic feel. Â
But what really prompted me to write this review was my last experience there while attending a networking meeting in their private banquet room. Â This is a perfect place to hold a round table discussion or networking meeting during the day. Â The setting is quiet, warm and conducive to conversation. Â And the massive TV is a great tool for presentation from a PC. Â The Wi-Fi internet came in very strong as well, which is a huge plus.
Stopped by here on the way home for a little happy hour goodness.
We had the bruchetta, which was really wonderful. Â The bread was toasted just right, the bruchetta had the right amount of flavor that you would want. Â I had a Stella to sip on, while my fiance and her mom had some wine which they really loved.
The ambiance is really warm, with soft lighting and dark wood colors, definitely a place to go when you want to relax and eat some good food.
This place was decent but it failed to live up to the expectations built-up by everyone here on Yelp.
It started so-so as they seated us ~20 minutes late for our reservation but it quickly got better thanks to amazing bread and fantastic soup (the sausage and rice soup, for the lack of a formal name, was amazing) but the experience faltered again with our entrees.
Both of our entrees were slightly over-cooked and lacked anything in the  way of amazing flavors.
The service was really good and I was impressed that the staff really seemed like they were a team and took care of other servers' tables as needed -- it made for a much more positive experience for us as customers.
I came here last night to celebrate a friend's birthday just before Happy Hour ended. Â Small, cozy place. Â A bit chilly inside, but we are coming right off an Indian summer, so perhaps the auto thermostat hasn't yet been adjusted for fall/winter weather. Â I had the Antipasta Salad with chicken - it was huge and good. Â The menu had lots of variety, but I wasn't in the mood for anything heavy so my salad did me just right! Â HUGE selection of wine, but since I was driving, I didn't drink anything. Â Our wait staff was awesome. Â I'll definitely come back here.
