I liked the view of the 400 Block from the front window. Â First I ordered the pulled pork sandwich because it was advertised in the menu as being one of their top three "favorites". Â They didn't have any prepared so I ordered the Caprese sandwich, the first item on the menu. Â They were out of mozzarella which is a main part of the recipe. Â Next, I ordered a BLT. Â I was surprised the bread wasn't toasted at all. Â There was may 1.5 strips of bacon on it in total which probably isn't a bad idea for someone watching their weight. Â The sandwich came with sweet potato fries. Â When the waitress delivered my food she didn't ask me if I needed anything else before she walked away so I had to flag her down to ask for a sauce for the fries. Â They didn't have any dill so I ordered the ranch. Â The food with a diet coke was $11.
Review Source:Service is excellent, food is ok. I've had lunch twice at Townies and my experience has been pretty much the same both times. I love the decor, the staff are friendly and do a great job, but the food kind of lets you down. I loved the open faced Reuben, it's inventive and has a great taste. The burgers are Meh. For a place that promotes their use of local food and producers, they are using a preformed patty for their burger. Mine was nothing special. For the price similar restaurants will run circles around Townies with the quality of their burgers.
The fries are AWESOME. Twice fried pommes frites. Avoid their waffle fries and get an extra order of french fries on the side. This is how fries should be done.
I am a fan of Malarkeys, and the staff, and owners as people. Â So, that might be a factor.
The last time I was at Malarkeys, the meal I ate was sidways in an unacceptable way. Â I sent it back, and took a pass on a replacement.
Today I went back and ate lunch. Â It was the lobster mac and cheese, and honestly it was brilliant. Â The lobster was nearly perfectly prepared, the pasta was perfectly balanced and not too smooshy, and the cheese was real, and good.
I like the place over all.
