Went there for the first time on Thursday night. Went online first to read reviews and look at the menu. Called some friends and they came with us. After reading the menu and reviews I knew what I was going to have when we got there. The parking lot in front was full so I expected  crowd. Very decieving , there were alot of empty tables. When the waitress came with menus I looked for the specials I saw online. They weren't there. When I asked her she said "That's an OLD menu.. They haven't  had that for a long time. REALLY !!!!!! She said they haven't gotta to the website yet to change it.... It's 2013 people.... get with it.. That's what people go to the website for  !!!!
My husband and I both settled for the lobster ravioli.... It came floating in a vodka sauce with overcooked dried shrimp on top. No presentation . I have gotten the lobster ravioli at quite a few different places and this was the worst.. Won't bother to go back... Not worth  the money spent for 4 of us...$170.00 for barely ok food... Found a great wine though and dessert was pretty good. Cross Trio off the list....
Went there for a (belated) Christmas work-party (me & 5 others) ... had reservations but still had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. The food was very good. The place was a little loud, though. We liked where we sat ... in a corner kinda off in our own space, which was nice ... even though every single picture on the wall around us was all crooked. Overall it's a nice place.
Review Source:Went to Trio for the first time tonight for a holiday party with friends.
We called on Wednesday for a reservation for 15 for tonight. Once we arrived, we were notified they did not have our reservation for this evening.
We waited a half hour before a table was pulled together for us.
Our waiter was very sweet and attentive.
I ordered the bruschetta for my appetizer. The waiter informed me they were sold out.
Empty water glasses sat on out table long after we had ordered before billing filled.
One friend ordered a salad for her appetizer. It came out to her promptly but before entrees were ordered. Therefore she ate her salad with her very large menu on her lap.
I ordered a chicken Caesar salad that came out without chicken. I waited another 5 minutes for my chicken after the entire table was served.
Food was decent - no rave reviews no big complaints on it.
The dessert try came along and a friend chose to order a wine she saw on the menu online before coming. The waiter was unfamiliar with it so he asked the bartender.
He returned and shared the wine on the online menu was the old menu and no longer available.
On the line of the website - it is flash based, therefore mobile phones can't open the site. What kind of restaurant is so far behind digitally these days where there is no mobile site or even one that isn't Flash.
Overall, I most likely won't return. It took us such a long time to visit and apparently we were not missing out on anything.
I and six family members had a weekday lunch at Trio recently and everyone was pleased with their meal. We ordered for appetizers the calamari and the Trio littlenecks--both delicious. I then had  a special of the day, a steak tips wrap that was really good, the tips done just right and quite tender. In addition to the good food (which was priced quite reasonably) we enjoyed the service of a lovely waitress, good-humored and attentive throughout the meal.
The cafe has a decent selection of wines and beers and a pleasant dining room. We have put Trio on our list of favorite places to have our occasional family get-togethers.
planned to do Persimmon but full so with my out of town brother and knowledgable older son along, we went for a first visit to this restaurant in Dartmouth; we were more than happy with our selections, all seafood dishes, scallops, salmon and cod; good
service without hovering, room pretty full and buzzing. I can't really say anything negative about our visit, will definitely go back, prices very fair. brother a NY'er so he was very happy with prices as he picked up the tab! we watched other plates being served, in case you have never tried a Portuguese restaurant, one thing they seem to have in common, lots of food! you won't leave hungry, desserts looked lovely but had to decline. bar area looked pretty crowded as we left around 9, might stop in next time, live music playing, not bad. all in all, good choice, easy to recommend. reservations on a weekend though
Significantly better than I expected. Â Have read and heard some ok stuff re: Trio, but our Tuesday visit was great.
We sat in the lounge (because we are not adult enough to sit in the dining area) and Rebecca did double duty as bartender and waitress. Â Her service was top notch!!
I had the cod loin, which included three littlenecks linguica and fingerling potatoes. Â The plate was HUGE. Â My dining partner had the stuffed haddock and reported it to be excellent.
We shared a small caesar salad and a baked brownie for dessert. Â It was a Tuesday so it was relaxed and quiet, so maybe weekends arent as successful, but we were very impressed. Â We WILL be back!
I have been going to TRIO's for some time.  My husband and I  went for appetizers and cocktails during the times for the half price appetizer special.  Needless to say we were surprised when the bartender let us know that  there was  a two appetizers limit for the special.  I don't think that I have ever been to a restaurant where they limit  the special like that.  As a matter of fact, we have been there in the past and ordered three appetizers with drinks.  Sometimes that is all we feel like on a Friday evening.  If  we had known that, we would have go to a different establishment.   After our appetizers and one cocktail each, we left when ordinarily we would have had more drinks and at least another appetizer.   It will be a long time before we return It is no wonder that the bar section is empty.
Review Source:No one at the register coming in was the first sign of quality at this place. Make sure to bring a light jacket, it gets chilly in here. The help was below average. It seems they only had to pass a wet T-shirt contest to be hired. Mind lacking and forgetting orders. Orders were also completely late or missing components. Water is not pleasant. Get bottled water if it's something you must have. Keep an eye on your kids, the chairs were not meant to hold a kid steady. We had an accident and almost left. My waitress forgot our limes after several request for them. When we finally got them, they were dry as if they were under a heat lamp. Calamari was good, but that could've been because I was hungry and still waiting for food to arrive. Did I mention that they're forgetful.
Be wary of Lynn C!
Something needs to change. The menu, the artwork, the speed of service...I don't know, maybe all three need to change...I feel like everything there tastes the same and is super salty. And the mixed drinks, GROSS! I'm not a mixologist but I know what I like to taste and I avoid ordering alcohol there because it does not taste right (quality of ingredients or liquor).
Review Source:We came here last night to celebrate v day and my birthday. We ordered the little necks and they were awesome. Very good sauce and you can dip the bread in it. I had the porter house with creamy mushroom sauce with rice and sweet potato fries for sides. The steak was tender and very tasty. My wife had the pistachio crusted Chicken and it was amazing. They were pretty busy and we got there at 5PM and left close to 7PM on a Sat night.
The waitress was nice, but she is not the brightest waitress, for sure.
Overall experience was amazing and will come back again.
I met a friend for a concert at UMA Dartmouth. After he suggested 99 or Olive Garden. Quickly, I went online and found Trio Cafe. We arrived 9:30. It was packed with post holiday goers. The spot is chic and trendy with lovely art and amazing colors and lights. We settled into a sofa near the fireplace in the lounge and had a lovely time. I had a smooth Robert Mondavi Pinot Noir and he had a Blue Moon beer he loved. We shared the Portuguese combo with red pepper, homemade Portuguese cheese and grilled Cibatta. He had a burger on a lovely roll. I don't eat meat but he enjoyed it and I picked at his salad and fries. It's a hip spot with romance and comfort in mind. I loved the bar and watched the Celtics play in between food and chat.
Review Source:I've read that since they have opened they are not as good as they once were. Â I can vouch for this statement and I would not recommend trying out Trio Cafe & Lounge. Â Although the specials are great during the week, it doesn't make up for the food not tasting good. Â We came here and split the steak tips and seafood casserole. Â The casserole was one of the most SALTY things I have tasted and there was a very strong taste of wine in it. Â The steak tips were okay but the sides were not tasty.
Luckily we had wine to drink.
Wow - this restaurant is shockingly bad. Â Everything we ordered tasted just wrong. Â The bread was served with rancid olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Â The salad had plain vinegar on it despite being described as a "vinaigrette." Â The scallops were undercooked. Â The steak was ridiculously salty. Â We asked the waitress for a recommendation for a bottle of wine, and she couldn't think of one. Â The "special cocktails" were nasty. Â We had to ask for and wait for silverware after they brought our meals. Â We had to keep asking to have our water glasses refilled. Â
From the other reviews, it looks like it's a good place to do some drinking, but it's definitely not a good dining experience.
We went as a decent sized group, with prior reservations, of course, for a full menu lunch. I had a good sized salad, some others in our group had salmon and chicken. I didn't hear any complaints. The food was delicious and hot, the service was attentive, the decor is exceptional, contemporary. I'd say some smooth jazz and lit candles would have rounded out the experience rather nicely. Desserts were great and parking is extremely ample. I'll go again.
Review Source:Trio Cafe & Lounge is a great place to take that special someone or to meet up with a few friends for some social drinking.
I have eaten there many times and have only walked away disappointed once. But I attribute that to "just one of those things". Even my most favorite of restaurants disappoint once in a while.
The food is mostly very good. The Portuguese steak, though not traditional, is very good. The seafood is always fresh and the service is mostly excellent. The only thing I would change is the terribly acrid olive oil and balsamic they place in front of you to dip your bread in.
The decor is very modern and rather eye catching for the area. The place oozes with that "chill" sense of style. It's the type of place where you end up having a 4 course meal and a few too many drinks simply because you can't break away from the atmosphere. Can you tell I dig this place?
I recommend the Pistachio chicken and the stuffed mushrooms.
Check it out and see if you concur.
I checked out Trio on Monday night and was impressed. Trio is in a class of restaurants locally that is clearly driven by owners who understand how important it is to continually refine your menu, provide a high quality meal/experience, and keeping prices reasonable for the area.
When you walk into Trio, you might be a little surprised to see that the restaurant in incredibly well built out (former tenants were a fine dining flop that left Trio some nice digs to work with).
We tried the prosciutto-wrapped Jumbo Shrimp off the Specials menu which were solid. We followed that up by taking advantage of their Monday special - two entrees and a bottle of wine for $34.99. But here's the kicker, the owners have the presence to know that most people will want to upgrade from the free wine and they enable just that by giving you a $15 credit toward any bottle of wine - solid!
The entrees were good, but I don't think I had the best Trio could offer and look forward to returning to explore more of the menu. Pesto Scallops were in a Pesto Madeira sauce - unique, but I can't decide whether it works or not. The Risotto with steak tips and mushrooms was a solid dish (definitely a good pick if you're deciding off the Special's Menu)
Dessert was pretty good - lava cake and chocolate layer cake both good choices. Neither is made in house, but they have roughly 10 dessert options, half of which are made onsite. Everything from the $6 desserts, $3 buds and sub $20 entrees was reasonably priced.
I recommend giving Trio a shot is you're unsure where to head to for that next dinner.
We went here today for Father's Day. Â The room itself was nice, but I do agree that the art isn't very fitting for the space. Â The parents split a bottle of wine, a portuguese red from the specials menu, and while it was rather dry they enjoyed it. Â We all ordered something different for lunch. Â I had the Frutti D Mar which was delicious and had lots of lobster and great noodles. Â The brother gof the lobster ravioli which oddly enough is served with shrimp and swordfish, and he seemed to enjoy it. Â My mom had the scallops which was 4 huge scallops in a delicious sauce, and she also got the garlic smashed potatoes which were also really good. Â Dad got the pork tenderloin medallions which also came with a great sauce and the same garlic smashed. Â 4 meals and a bottle of wine for $108 was very worth it, and I'd love to return possibly for a nice cheap sandwich and sweet potato fries at the bar.
Review Source:After a few pitchers of sangria and a 7 girl reunion...our waitress was polite, fun and very patient! She was the first waitress to buy a round of shots for our group. Impressive!
Most of the girls ordered the steak filets and were satisfied with portion, cost and preperation. I ordered the Shrimp Alhinho - white garlicy Portuguese style sauce and a side salad.
My meal was tasty and we had a great time...thanks Cafe Trio!
I went there with my parents for dinner. Restaurant has very nice atmosphere with a modern look and features paintings from a local artist. I didn't think the paintings suited the look very well, but the dim-ish lighting was nice.
Appetizers: We ordered the shrimp, clam chowder, and baby spinach & strawberries salad. They were all excellent. The salad and clam chowder were especially delicious.
Entrees: We ordered scallops, pistachio chicken, and fruitti(?) d mar (various seafood). Portion sizes were huge! My chicken came with 2 large breasts and I loved the pesto sauce it came with. Parents liked their seafood dishes, too.
Service: A bit slow on service. Our entree orders were taken after we finished our appetizers, so there was a bit of a waiting time. Also, they cleared away both of my forks and forgot to bring me a new one so I had to ask for it. Â Other than that, good, friendly, timely service.
I would definitely go back for a semi-fancy dinner. Menu items offer a lot of other things I'd like to try
Sophisticated yet affordable. Â Came here recently with a few of my coworkers for a Friday night out! Â Great for a classy group of girls who want to enjoy a tasty meal and even tastier drinks. Â Roomy bar area with small tables set up, great for waiting for others to arrive. Â The only downside is that you have to pay for your drinks before you can be seated for the meal. Â
Reservations are key! Â You can sit immediately and receive quick and friendly service. Â Our waitress was very helpful in choosing meals and drinks. Â She was quick to offer suggestions on buying bottles of wine rather than individual drinks to save us money! Â It's great when staff checks on these things to give the customer the best bang for their buck.
I love the range of prices on the menu. Â If you want to enjoy an expensive entree you can. . . price ranges from $10 - $20 on these items. Â On the other hand, if you still want to go out with your friends, but don't want to spend as much, there are sandwiches offered as low as $5 a piece! Â I will definitely return to this restaurant as I was very impressed with the efficiency of their service and the quality of the interior of the restaurant as well as what it offers.
Trio Cafe & Lounge is located in the former Opus Restaurant on Rt. 6 in North Dartmouth, almost at Reed Rd. Â I went there recently for a work dinner with some colleagues and a job candidate. Â Trio has kept Opus' interior and some other elements, such as their menu covers. Â There are new paint choices and artwork but the set-up is much as it was for Opus, with the bar to the left and the main dining area to the right.
Unlike Opus, Trio is actually an affordable meal. Â There are steaks on the menu, but they run in the $20s instead of almost $40. Â There are also a variety of main dishes in the $15-20 range and sandwiches for around $10.
Everyone in my party ordered seafood dishes. Â I got the sea scallops with a madeira-pesto sauce. Â The scallops were very large and expertly cooked, but the sauce was a little strange. Â While tasty, it was not particularly pesto-y or madeira-y. Â My colleague got the seared tuna and found it to be a little overcooked. Â The job candidate got the frutti di mar and seemed pleased.
We also ordered dessert. Â I got this delicious banana creation with sauteed bananas, cinnamon ice cream, and puff pastry. Â Yum!
Trio was hopping for a Wed night so I'm surprised no one has reviewed it yet. Â There was quite a mix of people in the restaurant with several birthdays being celebrated, and I'm guessing the bar was busy too given the mostly full parking lot.
